Maybe its not a problem of the role and more a problem of the right set up to achieve what i want? Glad for any advice 🙂

I'll have a think about how I can enhance this for you - I presume you've already got the 'look for overlap' setting highlighted on the 'attacking' tab of tactics? (it might be that the match isn't taking that into consideration enough with regards to your wide players behavior, but I want to double check before wading into the AI code as its rather complex and makes my head hurt at times ;) ).

I’ve reported dozens of issues I consider bugs but he below are some points that i’ve thought of for many versions of the game. If they’d be addressed I would enjoy the game even more stay with it longer after initial release. The development hub has been a great boost in this regard so I hope similar steps are made ahead

    • The match ratings for CMs are generally too low compared to other positions

I'll go through each of your points in turn - with regards to this, some positions do tend to score slightly higher than others for ratings as in real-life, ie. goalkeepers and central defenders are more rarely 'man of the match' than strikers ... this doesn't affect their development in the game (or anything else) as this is taken into account.

    • Potential ratings are too easily affected by low average rating. This is an issue often when trying to integrate young players into the team through shorter appearances since subs struggle to get more than 6’s consistently. It is a weird way to judge a youngsters potential when they start seeing senior football.

This is intentional - judging a players potential isn't easy and a player seen as a wonderkid can quickly become a nobody in the game and irl ... for example Aaron Connolly at Brighton surged onto the scene scoring two goals in his first match against spurs and was seen as a hot young striker ... a few seasons later he's being loaned out and is nowhere near first team contention. So in essence 5* potentially initially, somewhat lower probably now?

Evan Ferguson has started hotly this season at a young age for Brighton, but time will tell if he can keep his focus and good attitude long-term.

    • Assistant will always push for players to go on loan rather than to play for the reserve team. There should be a balance where the reserve team is sometimes a better choice.

In general if a player is thought to be mature enough to handle the pressure of competitive matches then irl often they're sent out on loan because there are things which most people understand can only be learnt by playing in matches which 'matter' above and beyond a reserve basis.

I do agree however that assistants might be a tad too enthusiastic about this and I'll look at balancing that with some suggesting that a player might be better suited to the reserves until he matures a little in some circumstances.

    • There are too few late bloomers in the game since potential is set from the beginning and rarely misjudged by skilled scouts.

This actually isn't always the case at all - although its not something I particularly 'mention' a lot publicly, players don't always have a fixed potential - if a player with high potential gets a really serious injury sometimes their potential will swap with another random youngster who is playing well which can ramp up player heavily and cause a 'late bloomer' to occur.

On 05/02/2023 at 13:37, Shanamaj said:
    • AI ran clubs makes so many ill-judged transfers for positions where there is little need and often don’t try to integrate new players they spent huge sums for.

This is something I'm constantly tweaking and trying to improve, again if you have saves containing specific instances then please by all means send them in to us.

    • When choosing not to use real players the entire players should be randomized, not just the names.

It isn't just the names which are randomised at all, although the overall standard of teams is kept the same to keep the simulation sane.

    • Option to choose a larger database to get more prominent players from leagues not selected (should be feasible for newer devices).

I try and keep the game as simple to setup and play as possible - while it might be feasible to do this it'd further complicate the setup of the game and 'simple and easy to setup and use' is what I'm aiming at with FMM (sorry).

    I apologise for the negativity.

But 11 euros for an editor that can't edit (or even see!) basic things like:

     - mental attributes.

     - basic contract features like release clause.

Seems like a quick cash grab. Really unfortunate.

The editor has been in the game for several years at this point and is fairly extensive in what it can set .. the reason that some things are excluded is:

    * Mental attributes, there are a number of hidden mental attributes which combine to create the visible personalities, there can be a little daunting and confusing for users so at present we haven't allowed these to be exposed to people - at some point I might look at simply allowing users to 'select' a personality to give a player, but in general I concentrate on developing items which aren't restricted to just a few users (ie. purchasable items) and so this hasn't been a high priority simply because very few users appear to want to do it (ie. yours is one of the first mentions of this I've seen).
    * Release clauses - added these into the game 'mid-stride' is problematic as it'd require the game to reassess all of its shortlisting instantly which might lock some of the older android devices up for a short-while, for this reason it hasn't been implemented yet.

I do understand your position - but sadly game development isn't always as simple as it might seem from a users perspective ... but in general please ascribe any deficiencies in the game either to my stupidity or restrictions with devices rather than intentional malice :)

My wingers are number 9 and 36. Both are set as inside forwards. The width in the tactics screen is set to wide.

As you can see, they are not really giving widht. Even if set as wingers, they stay a little bit wider - bit not on the sideline. I understand that at some point all wingers should go inside but not when my defender has the ball. Before the update, the wingers actually stayes wide. They just went inside too late/not at all.

The save-game is uploaded to the CloudService with the following name: Winger_too_narrow.fms

Just to clarify - you have a player moving out of defense with the ball and you have the wide players set as 'inside forwards'  ?

    From :https://soccerblade.com/inverted-winger-vs-inside-forward/
" An inside forward is a secondary attacker that plays off a lone striker. Most inside forwards play between the lines of strikers and wingers. They support lone strikers by making forward runs between the full-backs and center backs.
As an inside forward, the main objective is to score or assist, similarly to a winger. However the positioning is different in the sense that an inside forward leaves space near the sidelines. Rather than standing space on the flanks, an inside forward drags defenders and midfielders to central areas."

What I can see in that screenshot is that the inside forwards appear to be attempting to outpace and get goalside of their respective defenders, probably hoping for a through ball to be played in front of them .. that would enable them to get a shot in or lay the ball across to a forward so he can shoot ... in essence what is indicated is normal behavior for an inside forward?

(if you want the player to remain wide and act as a winger then I'd err suggest you set him to be a winger? - if you think the behavior is incorrect could you explain how you think an inside forward should behave and why the game is incorrect)

    Hi Marc,

is it possible to add the full history of each club to one of future updates? ( titles, top goascorers, etc). Similar to the touch version. I know perhaps there is specs and data size issue but perhaps it can be as an add on for anyone who wants to purchase it and has the phone specs. Also, is there a possibility to see more detailed finances such as season tickets sales, detailed revenue and expenses?

I'll keep expanding the history side of things over time as the game goes forward, with regards to finance ... simply put 'no' (sorry) ... in real-life the manager has no ability to affect such things and is simply given a budget as such adding 'fluff' like that won't improve or affect the game.

Went back to play the release from 10 years ago and i cant seem to figure out what the "interface hints" setting does, at first i thought it was the assistant tips through the menus but thats "assistant help" right below in the settings menu, so what does this option do?

In all honesty I can't remember (and I'm the idiot who would have implemented it ;) )... I'm not sure I've even got a copy of that version now .. jeez my kids were young enough to still live at home when I made that version :D;)

Hi Marc, don’t have a laptop or anything to do the save. I play a 433 with the inside forwards pushed right up as high as the central striker, although out wide. When you look at teams that have these in the real world, the inside forwards are usually scoring a decent amount, 20 a seasons, but on this game it’s ridiculous. If your striker isn’t scoring on a bad run, there are just not goals, no matter what amazing stats the inside forwards have

Can you give me some examples of IF's who are on course  to score 20 goals this season please and I'll test against these and see what their rates are in the game at the moment.

In general scoring 20 goals a season is fairly rare at the top level for all but the very best players imho, for instance irl at the half-way point of the season only 5 players have 10 goals or more ..

PS - If you're looking for a 'scoring' IF in the game then as in the real-word you'll be looking for someone who is fairly selfish and a good finished, preferably a better finisher than a passer ... also consider double checking their preferred moves, someone who can take first time shots and such will be more effective than someone who can't etc.

That makes sense. I’m guessing the potential ability on the coaches report once the youngster is promoted to the first team is more accurate than the initial rating (while in the youth academy) when the new crop of youth players arrive?
(I.e. Can you really get excited about a 5* youth pull or is the rating when promoted to the first team more accurate if that makes sense?).

I would personally always get excited about a 5* youth if he's been fully scouted at youth level - however do bear in mind only a percentage of kids with great potential ever fulfill it, if the player doesn't have a professional attitude and decent work-rate then that might inhibit him reaching it (or you might get lucky, time will tell) ..  and a bad injury at the wrong time can see the end to anyones career.

Thanks for getting back to me. You kind of misinterpreted what I meant.

I got a 30 year old forward with aerial stats of 17 mentor two young forwards(both are 18 years) with aerial stats of 9 and 8 respectively. Two seasons in, the young forwards have managed to boost their leadership rating from below 10 to 15 and 16. The 30 year old mentoring them  doesn't even have his Leadership stat that high.

Their Aerial stats didn't improve at all but the Leadership stat did.

Ok thanks - that makes more sense as an issue to investigate, I'm on holiday for the next two weeks (technically I am on holiday presently - I'm just not very good at them ;) ) but I'll try and take a peek when I get a chance.

Marc, is there going to be a change to the mentorship programs. I got Guido Carillon for his 17 aerial stats but he couldn't improve two young forwards heading attributes in two seasons. They preferred improving their Leadership which is 14 for Guido.

I'll check on this and tweak if I think its needed - however, the higher someones stat is the harder it is to improve it, especially for physical stats - the number of people with 'maxed' out levels of such stats is fairly rare (esp. for physical stats) and 17 is pretty darn good, simply put its not guaranteed that they'll always improve in the area you want.

I have a player who "Has no interest in learning English". He has been with me for 9 seasons...

Does this impact him at all? I.e. limit his development / game performances (not understanding team talks / tactics etc)?

Would it be possible to be able to talk/interact with the player if they don’t want to learn the language and try to encourage them to do so? Hopefully a similar update to the above.

It'll mean sometimes teamtalks will go over his head - I'll look at including something to ensure that if a player stays long-term he'll at least pick up the basics of a language (after 9 years I expect he can at least order in a restaurant at this point ;) ).

    Perfect - Thank you.

Does a motivational coach have any affect on the youth academy or just the morale of the players? Does say having X2 youth coaches have any extra effect opposed to having just 1 youth coach?

What would the Potential ability for players be from the youth academy:

    For example:

    5 star Player - 180+ Potential?

    4.5 Star player - 175+ potential?

Is there a set potential limit for the players drawn from the academy?

The star ratings for youngsters don't work quite like that - for instance the stars shown are relative to your club, so with a near perfect setup (like you mentioned) if you're a conference club its likely nearly all your youth will be 5* but their potential may well be far below that ... however with a very large club (say Man City) a player with 150 potential might only show up as 3*.

(on top of that the star judgements aren't 100% accurate and will fluctuate especially when a player is young)

@Marc Vaughan - Hope this finds you well, Will the end of Jan Transfer window update be the next one? 😁

We don't announce timelines or plans for updates - simply because sometimes something comes up which causes us to do a minor update to address a feature, there will be a transfer window update in due course, but as to when and if it'll be the next one I can't commit to (sorry).

Hi Marc, not sure how to save but this is the player, really good stats, should be a decent scorer but look at the goals and assists record. The really good inside forwards in the world should be getting 25-30 goals a season, some are more important that central strikers

Information on how to send saves can be found in the 'how to' section for your OS here - https://support.sega.com/hc/en-gb/sections/9803989579665-Football-Manager-2023-Mobile

Hi Marc, love the game but just wanted to give a bit of feedback.
first thing is, inside forwards still don’t seem that different from the update, barely any output still. General lack of goals is below what it should be I think, see screenshot, this happens to me over and over and over again. Lastly, a little point, a manager career has a starting age of 52, that is a bit wrong, do you even need to have the age/date of birth on there?

Inside forwards - send me your save and I'll take a look at your setup and see if I can work out whats up and tune if needed, my better ones generally can get 10-20 goals a season which seems about right (I don't have a truly world class player in that position, but do have some decent options - ie. Mitomaesque).

With regards to the human manager age, that shouldn't be visible and has no effect in game (apart from a single news item string) - I've set it down and the visible age on the coach profile will vanish next update ... reason for it being so high, errr I've gotten older and used my date of birth as the default for most dates in the game, sorry ... grins with embarrassment ;)

Currently I have a young goalie with 5* potential and no Goalkeeping coach…

Presumably this will affect the development of the keeper? Other then improving by playing games, can/will the young goalie develop?

A goalkeeper coach will obviously help the player develop slightly faster, however he will still develop without one ... if he has REALLY exceptional ability (ie. world class) then he might not be able to reach the highest possible peak without specialist coaching however (there will be a warning on his training profile if that happens).

  17. If you want to go 'attacking' then I'd suggest you give your wide players more support by using wingbacks ... otherwise as mentioned I'd use counter attacking or similar to try and draw the opposition out from defense a little more (basically do you want to overpower (ie. attack) or use guile (counter attack) ).

Other things to consider - your high defensive line is probably why you've getting 'sprung' now and again - look for overlap really cries out for wingbacks as otherwise its less likely to be active often.

Details of how to upload saves can be found here -
