Hello and welcome to my latest save.

We're taking over Real Bedford, currently playing at Level 9 in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

    So, why Real Bedford?

    I was browsing the FM Scout website and notice a file had been uploading which was basically updating the game to show some IRL changes that had happened to the club. Lets look at the timeline of events;

    • 1957 - Bedford United are formed and mainlly just kick about the local leagues with no notable successes
    • 1971 - The club joins the United Counties League and is placed into Div 2
    • 1979 -  Club leaves the United Counties League and takes a spot in the Bedfordshire County League
    • 1980 - Bedfordshire County League Div 1 Champions
    • 1989 - Joined the South Midlands League
    • 1996 - 3rd place finish earns promotion to the Premier Division of the SML
    • 2002 - The club merges with local Sunday League side US Valerio and is knows as Bedford United & Valerio
    • 2005 - Club is relegated after finishing second from bottom
    • 2006 - Club renamed to Bedford Valerio United
    • 2007 - Renamed again and is now known simply as Bedford
    • 2013 - Winners of the Bedfordshire Senior Trophy
    • 2015 - Promotion back to the Premier Division but subsequently relegated in the following season
    • 2022 - Club is taken over by Bitcoin Podcaster Peter McCormack. Pete claims he wants to take the club all the way to the Premier League. Club is then renamed once more and is now known as Real Bedford
    • 2023 - Again win the Bedfordshire Senior Trophy and are crowned champions of Division One
    • 2024 - Huge investment made by cryptocurrency investors, the Winklevoss twins, sees £4,5000,000 pumped into the club.

Ans this is where we pick up the story....

No doubt theres work to be done to achieve Peter's dream of Premier League football but im so excited to run this LLM type save with some financial backing.

Nice to see people enjoying my Editor file :) If you catch any errors please feel free to let me know and I can correct them.

Yes, I have seen these posts before; however, teams that are hard-coded, such as Athletic Bilbao or C.D. Guadalajara, are very few. It would be nice to be able to achieve this with popular teams like Real Madrid or Manchester United, or a personal favorite team of the individual user. If there are others, it's likely they're buried somewhere in the lower divisions or are extinct. Additionally, I prefer to manage playable teams without using an editor. I hope that in future FM games, a feature will be added to replicate how these hard-coded teams operate and behave, with staff actually following the club's transfer policies. While it's possible to replicate this manually, it is much more challenging compared to the hard-coded teams. Some of the FM player base prefers to focus on the non-transfer aspects of the game, allowing their staff to handle any transfers.

I could imagine it working within the game better if it was something you could suggest to the board when you are having your meetings about the "club's vision".

FM developers could add options on what you as a manager want the club's "signing philosophy" to be. Then you could have a list of options presented to you on who you think the club should be able to sign based on nationality, or other factors etc.

Club's sporting directors talk a lot about "identity" but what exactly does it mean? Something like the Bilbao model is a clear identity but when other club's use it makes less sense as it's not defined or clear.

I've found myself that since there are so many players in the game that you can make a decent team out of, it's more fun to impose a limitation on yourself where you build the identity of your club around a select group of types of players instead of just a random hodge-podge of people from all over the world with no rhyme or reason to it.

You can see even at Man City it's a consistent theme that Pep almost exclusively hire's a Catalan backroom staff as quite clearly, it's easier to communicate his ideas to people he understands better.

This idea is interesting and would definitely give the game more character. :)

The problem I have with the supporter or owner objectives is that they do not function like the hard-coded teams. For example, if you manage Athletic Bilbao, it is impossible for you and your staff to sign players outside the region. However, if I were on a team like Bayern or Man City, and there was a policy/objective such as 'Sign players of [a specific] nationality,' my staff would ignore this policy and sign players from any nationality they choose. I can also sign any players I want. The only consequence I might face is an email stating that the objective was failed, and nothing happens afterward.

I think it would be interesting if we, as the manager, could request a policy like that of Athletic Bilbao or C.D. Guadalajara and have the staff actually follow it, akin to these hard-coded teams where it is impossible to go against the policy. You should be able to request a transfer policy to only sign players of a certain nationality, region, or language. In real life, directors of football and heads of youth development would typically respect these preferences, aligning with managers' inclinations towards players who are either local or fluent in the local language. Adding this feature would provide an opportunity for saves that are not only more interesting and realistic but also more satisfying.

It really is a big oversight that they don't allow you to enforce a policy like this more organically within the match engine. Recruiting local players isn't really an outlandish policy. There are several clubs around the world who do it like Olot in Catalonia, Bilbao, there's a Turkish team too.

The only workaround in the FM engine to get a team to function in this way is moving a hardcoded extinct team that already has the policy.

    See here for an explanation

A guy made a spreadsheet of all the hardcoded teams in the game here also

  4. I usually just create my manager profile like a real coach then add their picture (the newgen face gives me nightmares).

Having the ability to select a real manager would be a great addition.

    Hello,

Sorry in advance if this has been recommended already or implemented in some way, or if it's not possible to implement.

I would like to recommend a feature that would allow us to implement an Athletic Bilbao or C.D. Guadalajara-style transfer policy, making the game behave similarly to the ones that are hard-coded in the game. You could allow the player (manager) to request its addition to the Club Vision. Additionally, it could have the chance to be added when a new Chairman/President is elected, or when the club is sold to a different owner.

I understand that there is a board culture aspect, which includes 'Sign players of Nationality' as an option, among others of that nature. However, this does not behave in the same way as hard-coded policies do. Currently, my staff and I can still sign players outside the transfer policy, a scenario that would not be possible with hard-coded policies. From my experience, I may receive an email indicating the owner/chairman is disappointed with my efforts to achieve the club vision, but there are no further repercussions. This aspect also does not significantly impact how my staff behaves, as they often ignore the policy or vision.

This is particularly challenging in a save where I let my Director of Football handle signings more often, as they do not adhere to this policy. This would likely also include the Head of Youth Development, as there may be youth signings from other nations or outside the desired transfer policy, specifically in cases where I may want players only from one city or area, as in attempting to achieve something like that of Athletic Bilbao.

I believe this feature would enhance realism or immersion for those wanting to follow such a policy while also allowing us to delegate job duties, offer the opportunity for more interesting and challenging saves, and provide more satisfaction by allowing us to achieve such a policy with a club of our choice.

    Thank you.

You had a similar idea to me :)

It's difficult to enforce any strict transfer policies in the game for clubs similar to Bilbao.

It used to be an option in previous editors but they removed it. The only way to for transfer policies like this in the game now is changing supporter objectives and the staff director objectives but even still you can only make nationality transfer policies for players and not by region.

  6. FM should make regions have more importance in the game.

Football is a regional game and many teams, players, fans form their identity around their specific regions but the way the game currently works doesn't really have a way of representing that.

I suggest that we should be given a similar selection of editor controls for regions that we do for nations.

    Screenshot2024-02-22093254.png.3583bc3824ae54a61278645d00a13f8a.png

The nations editor allow us to give a lot of identity to each nation to create a story.

    Screenshot2024-02-22093321.png.b7a641fede5701140562bd1b5c73667c.png

The option to add a region in the editor just allows us to geographically assign cities to a non descript placeholder.

Having a feature like this would make it so regions like Catalonia, the Basque region, Madeira Islands, Guernsey, Falkland Islands, etc, etc could have regional teams that don't supersede the actual national team too (like Catalonia's national team) but still serve a function to represent the regional identity. Making graphics like county flags would also be pretty cool, along with a region overviews (similar to nation overviews) that could display all local clubs and players.

Since the game is so limited in terms of depicting the geography of where you actually are in the world when you are managing a team, something like this could help in that aspect and give your save more character.

Also I need to say, it would save editors a lot of effort in having to make regions from scratch with a pre-existing FM database nation.

I've spent so much time making Norfolk, Catalonia, Bahia, etc in the game.

(also pretty please to SI...bring back the add nation button)

  7. I am currently playing a save in Norway and after 5 seasons I've more or less become the most dominant and richest club in the league.

As a result of this I've created quite a disparity between my team's quality and that of the rest of the league.  My team has a balance of 100 million euros while other teams hover around 1 million euros or less. To solve this disparity I've just started buying youth players for inflated fees from each of the clubs but it feels a bit ridiculous.

It struck me that it would be a good idea for the game to include a vote system every few years  where each team can submit a change to the league that they want to be implemented in order to make it better. then teams can vote to implement the change or not.

Something similiar to Civ 6's congress is what I'd have in mind.

    spacer.png

Different changes could come with an indicator of a positive impact they will have. E.g. min 4 U21 Norwegian players ++ promotes the development of native players ++promotes teams using youth systems

It could include registration changes, squad size changes, foreigner rules, sponsorship, tv deals, prize money for the league or what has been done in the Netherlands, a sharing of the European prize money amongst the league and teams.

Something like this to me doesn't seem to be unrealistic as teams do need to cooperate to make sure their league is successful as no team exists in isolation, however I would say that if you are just a manager participating in this league vote system could be reserved to when you are at least favoured personnel of your club.

I just came up with this idea so I'm not sure what others would think but I really think there is a need for leagues to be more dynamic especially when they are from minor nations as one team can become dominant very easily and overall that's not good for competition.

Even in France they've decided to reduce the amount of teams to create more competition.

I don't really get what you seem so annoyed by, don't see anyone in here who has argued against your proposition. The last sentence there is completely out of touch with anything said here.

Anyway, the suggestion is now in the right place and SI will handle it in due time.

I posted it on another forum and a guy said that it was too difficult, complex, expensive, etc for SI to implement.

There is a somewhat interactive map in the game, but it only involves the scouting knowledge.

    xK94aCD.png

An animated map like this one is actually really easy to make but it adds a lot in itself to the scouting. They could use this same SVG map but for nations in the game and display dots on screen for the locations of teams in your division with filters to show other nations and divisions too.

It really isn't that hard but people make so many excuses for this company making the most minor of changes that it's unbelievable.

In past years there was some sort of licensing issue blocking maps from the game. But now there are maps in the scouting tabs so I don't know.

With how easy it is to build a map based on free data publicly available it really doesn't make sense how a company like SI can't either contract someone to build them one or just license the use of one for the game.

It would really add so much to game.

  11. Hey man, was trying to get in contact with you but I don't know the best method.

You helped me previously with FM Editor data for cities that you extracted.

Could you please send me the data for Irish and Northern Irish cities if possible?

If not too much to ask I would really be interested in getting the data for clubs and stadiums in Ireland and Northern Ireland as well.

I'm trying to add new stadiums and clubs to the database with your script but I don't want to add anything already in the game.

Yeah, as above says having two stage 0s is definitely a problem. Stages don't have to be sequential. You can have stage 0 and 1 running at the same time and both feeding into stage 2, but they do need to have unique numbers.

Your rankings will also need fixing. Every team needs a ranking assigned when they finish the competition whether they qualify, are eliminated or whatever else. Teams can share rankings though, so if you wanted it super simple you could make every team that qualified rank 0 and all the teams that don't rank 1. Probably best to assign ranks based on when teams are eliminated too though. You might want to double check your teams though. 9 South American nations (minus Brazil) + your 27 Brazilian states should = 36 qualified teams, not 37. Maybe Brazil is sneaking in still?

Also, unless you've edited the WC too, you can't have 8 teams qualifying. It would need to be identical to the default setup, eg. 4+1 playoff place for 2022 and 6+1 playoff place for 2026 onwards. The end date (and possibly start date) would likely need to be identical to the default setup too.

Actually, given that some competitions are told not to run at all if linked competitions are edited/removed I'm not sure it would even be possible to edit the qualifying without including the WC in the file (even if there are no changes).

I'm not that familiar with the concepts behind the ranking system so maybe that's what's giving me some confusion

  13. My attempt at this is probably too difficult to accomplish so if anybody is able to modify the existing CONMEBOL structure to include 27 new teams in a group style system, more similar to the UEFA qualifying I'd appreciate it.

I just want to find some kind of solution to this because other than this aspect of the database, I've competed everything else.

  14. I'm finding it tricky to restructure South American Qualifying of the World Cup to accommodate new nations I have created in South America.

If anyone is able to help me make this aspect of my database I would really appreciate it.

    CBwzNOA.png.f1148733608386354d7df82ad47c7290.png

The existing structure has way too many teams

I tried to make a qualification structure using the existing CONMEBOL system based off the in game World Cup structure but with earlier stages and 2 simultaneous initial stage (0)s that happen.

    2141212816_Screenshot2022-07-20215512.thumb.png.875cc282a3f0dff6a57bb3e4bbd7790d.png

    • In the first stage 0, Brazilian Nations (excluding Brazil - which is removed) face a cup system which elimates them down from 27 teams to 5 teams over 3 rounds.
    • In the second stage 0, South American nations face a league system which qualifies 5 teams.
    • In the stage 1 (the main stage) 5 teams from the Brazilian nations and 5 teams from the South American teams meet in a league with the top 8 qualifying.

After making these I am now stuck because the database returns an error in testing about there being too many teams in the Ranking (27) than the teams qualifying (37) and it's getting frustrating to figure out what to do to fix this.

No, not as far as I am aware.

In my experience the language can effect the first and second names as well as ethnicity. It's hard to know what exactly effects what to what extent but it's best to try all the methods you can to influence regens coming out how you want.

    Language, regions, cities, etc.

That looks correct to me, I’m unsure if in the population you have to have a range rather than the exact number though.

    What errors do you get?

I found the issue. The generator didn't like me using the portuguese language characters in the names of the regions.
