OFK Belgrade – 2024/25 League (2nd) – Excellent performance to qualify for the Champions League. We’ve started to blow teams away now and scored 94 goals along the way. If we can tighten up against the big boys we have a chance to topple Partizan in the next few years. Fixtures 1 Fixtures 2 Fixtures 3 EURO Cup – Incredibly proud of what we achieved. We cruised through the qualifiers against Braga and PAOK, and then failed to make the knockout stage by one point in what was a very tough group. We managed a famous win away at Porto, but our losses against Everton cost us. We should have had a draw at home, but the game at Goodison still niggles at me. At half time we’d scored two goals, and they’d lost Ross Barkley through injury and had Tom Davies sent off. In the second half we conceded three penalties… Serbian Cup – Second round. After making it to the final for the last three years it was actually a bit of a relief to go out early, so we could then concentrate on the league. Squad – We’re getting better and better and are now a very good team in this league playing some really good possession based football. As always key mentions as follows: Bogdan Radojkovic – Top goalscorer (29). Yet again he finished as the top scorer in the league. I can’t believe I doubted his pedigree when I first took over. Marko Jovanovic 2b – Most assists (19) and joint most MoM awards (8). He retained his Young Player of the Season award and was even voted Super League Managers’ Player of the Season. Vasilije Djuric – Absolute superstar. My very own Steven Gerrard. Highest average rating (7.49) and joint most MoM awards (8). Transfers – Next to no activity. Partizan finally sold Nemanja Sucurovic 1a to Atletico Madrid for peanuts considering he was £15m at the time, so finally got my sell on clause. More importantly though Partizan lost the best player in the league. Youth Intake – Wow. Overall a decent intake but Mirko Zivkovic 7a is the best youngster I‘ve seen come through in my time at OFK. He’s already as good as Zoran Perisic 0b who’s one of the best defenders in the league anyway. Hopefully our defence will see improvements from now on. Other – The board granted me improvements in our youth facilities and data analysis facilities so we keep on keeping on. Our u19s won their league again for the third time in four years. I also finished third in the Manager of the Season award. Next Season – Hopefully we can qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, but appreciate it’ll be tough to do. If not I’ll take another strong group performance in the EURO Cup. Domestically I expect, rather than mere hope, that we’ll cement our place as one of the top three teams in Serbia. It’s still hard to fathom that we had the players who were top scorer, highest average rating, and most assists in the league, along with several players in the team of the year…. And still didn’t win the league. Such is Partizan’s dominance. Partizan are still head and shoulders above us, but despite what the league table shows, from our performances against them and Red Star they are both definitely getting weaker. They’ve both had a lot of transfer activity over the last 18 months and I feel are poorer for it, whereas we keep improving. Let’s wait and see. OFK Belgrade – 2023/24 League (4th) – I changed tactics slightly at the start of the season removing the “pass into space” instruction and it certainly helped. We only finished two places higher but delivered a much improved 70 points. Tailed off slightly once again at the back end of the season due to a few injuries having spent most of the season in second place. Critically however we’re back in Europe! Fixtures 1 Fixtures 2 Fixtures 3 Serbian Cup – Runners up again. This time being beaten by Partizan in the final. Squad – Much improved this season. More of our youngsters are coming through and looking decent at first team level. One milestone reached is that I was finally able to put out a team entirely consisting of academy graduates. As always key mentions as follows: Bogdan Radojkovic – Top goalscorer (22). He also finished as the top scorer in the league. Marko Jovanovic 2b – Highest average rating (7.44) and joint most MoM awards (5) and assists (15). He even beat Nemanja Sucurovic 1a to the Young Player of the Season award. Vasilije Djuric – Joint most MoM awards (5). Mr OFK Belgrade. Pavle Radunovic – Joint most assists (15). A return to form after an average previous season. Transfers – No major exits and I think we’re now in a position to hold onto our best youth players domestically going forward. This is the first season that I’ve released several players who I’ve considered to be good squad players for us. We just need to move on and blood the promising youngsters we now have coming through. Youth Intake – Possibly the best yet, which to be honest I was hoping for after the improvements made in junior coaching and youth recruitment. Milan Karisic 6a is the best of the bunch, a young striker who’s already in the first team and bagged a few goals. Other notable mentions are: Marko Jevtic 6b Marko Obradovic 6c Other – My manager now has his Continental Pro licence, and stats wise is looking pretty good. I also won the FA Manager of the Season, and Manager of the Season awards. I'll be honest I'm not sure on the difference. The board granted me improvements in youth recruitment and junior coaching taking them to the top level possible. Let’s build a dynasty! Next Season – I’d like us to push on and try and get a Champions League place. We were in second place for most of the season this time round but fell away late on due to too many injuries. When we’re at the races I’d fancy us to beat most teams in the league other than the three above us. The main concern at the minute however is that although we’ve closed the gap on Red Star, Partizan just look too good for everyone else, and at one stage looked like they’d get through the entire season unbeaten. Nemanja Sucurovic 1a has been immense for them, so I’m hoping someone comes in for him soon as that will inevitably make them weaker – plus we have a sell on clause associated with him. It's a little weird, basically like Scotland. You play each team twice which takes you to 30 games, then play the other 7 teams who have finished in your half of the table once. Using a 4-2-3-1 system at the minute. We usually have good possession stats but concede too many goals from us giving the ball away cheaply. I'm one season ahead and made one small change the following season. Statistically my players aren't the best passers, so I removed the instruction to "pass into space". Spoiler - it was definitely an improved performance the following season.

OFK Belgrade – 2022/23 League (6th) – Little bit of a step backwards, but overall another decent season. Our form was patchy in places, in particular towards the end. This coincided with Nikola Spajic 1d deciding he should look to move to a bigger club (no one was interested him – get on with it, mate). Fixtures 1 Fixtures 2 Fixtures 3 Fixtures 4 EURO Cup – 4th Qualifying round. We were very strong against Aberdeen, but unfortunately Lille were just too good for us. That said, we were missing two of our best players in both legs, and their only goal in the second leg was a massive deflection from a free kick. A positive first step on the continent. Serbian Cup – Runners up! Red Star swept us away in the final. Squad – Solid if unspectacular performance from them this time round. They have more in the locker than what they showed this season. As always key mentions as follows: Bogdan Radojkovic – Top goalscorer (28) and joint most MoM (7). Always in the right place at the right time. Vasilije Djuric – Highest average rating (7.17) and joint most MoM awards (7). Probably my best player and will still probably be a key player in 5 years time. Nikola Lakcevic – Most assists (13). Mr Consistency in terms of chances created. Transfers – Nothing major here. No major changes and managed to hold onto all of my good youngsters. Youth Intake – Slightly better than the previous season, but still nothing spectacular. Marko Tomic 5a being the pick of the bunch. Every year we seem to get yet more right midfielders/wingers which in a few years I inevitably won’t know what to do with. Other – My manager has now nearly completed all of his coaching badges and is no just studying for the Continental Pro licence. Our u19s also won their league yet again. This has got to be a good sign for the future. Surely… The board have granted me improvements in youth recruitment and junior coaching, so hopefully we’ll start kicking out a higher level of youth intake over the next few years. The data analysis facilities are set to be improved again, and our stadium will be extended to an all-seater capacity of a mighty 14,850. Next Season – We’ve got to try and get back into Europe. Missed out by one place this year and really enjoyed our early season exploits. Onwards and upwards! OFK Belgrade – 2021/22 League (4th) – Solid first season in the Super League and very happy. If we could sort out a bit of consistency we’ll be laughing. Fixtures 1 Fixtures 2 Fixtures 3 After parking this save for two months I have remembered what I find most frustrating about it – the dam fixture schedule. The Serbian league winter break lasts for two months. Two months of absolute nothing. Our season then ended with 8 games in 23 days. It just seems absurd if this is what happens in reality. How is that good for players? I’m sure someone smarter than me would be able to explain, but surely cutting a few weeks out of the winter break would help. Serbian Cup – Winners! We broke the curse of continually reaching the 1st round only to obtain my first piece of silverware. And perhaps bigger than this…. Qualify for the EURO Cup. Squad – Very happy at the minute, solid squad which is very young. Should only really get better from here on. Key mentions as follows: Bogdan Radojkovic – Top goalscorer (20) and joint most MoM awards (4). Just keeps getting better and better in front of goal. Vasilije Djuric – Highest average rating (7.38) and joint most MoM awards (4). Ran the show in midfield for the most part, and has a cracking shot from long range. Nikola Lakcevic – Most assists (14). Very reliable winger, which is useful considering out transfers in the year… Other notable mentions would be Ivan Sreckovic 3b (a 16 year old goalkeeper who has made the number 1 jersey his own with a series of spectacular one-on-one saves), and Nikola Spajic 1d (much better as an AMC than as a striker). Transfers – Unfortunately lost Nemanja Sucurovic 1a to Partizan. However we received a good package for him and it allowed Lakcevic to make the right wing position his own. As a bit of a spoiler I’m almost a season ahead from this update, and Sucurovic now has three full Serbian caps and is attracting interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Roma, so hopefully that sell on clause will come in handy. I was more disappointed to lose Ostoja Basanovic 3a also to Partizan – I’m hoping we just don’t end up being a feeder club to them. I thought it was a pretty poor financial deal which my board accepted for him. Even more frustrating that he was getting game time for us in the Super League, and Partizan farmed him out straight away to what I believe is at best a third tier Serbian team. Red Star are definitely my preferred Belgrade giant. Youth Intake – a bit of a “meh” intake after season three. None ready for first team action, and not many with great potential. The best of the lot being Marjan Prolic 4a. Other – Cash received on players in the year came in useful, as it meant I could successfully request improvements to our youth recruitment, junior coaching, senior training facilities, and data analysis facilities. My manager is now studying for his Continental A licence – now we have a bit of extra cash the board just keep letting me carry on going to college. My under 19s also won their academy league, no mean feat considering they were up against the Partizan and Red Star academies. In other news Serbia has now joined the EU, although I’m unsure if this is a good thing, as it probably makes it easier for other European cubs to sign my best players. But at least they wouldn’t be joining Partizan, so every cloud and all that. Serbia has also improved its European coefficient, so there’ll be an extra Champions League place next season! Next Season – The next step has to be to reach the top three. I’m also going to enjoy being in Europe, regardless of how long for. Really weird time for you to ask, today is actually the first day I've picked the save up in 2 months! I haven't had as much time to play FM, and what little I have had has been on the Tour of Challenges (that's not going too well for me). I guess I'd fallen out of the idea of a European save as I thought I could reach the top domestically pretty quickly, and so thought about starting again in England (I wasted a Sunday afternoon/evening a few weeks ago to get Farsley Celtic). But I've really enjoyed picking OFK up today so think that still has some legs.

I enjoyed this much more than my time in South Africa. It's amazing what winning and not getting sacked can do for your playing enjoyment. Overall it went pretty well. I was usually in control of games and scored goals freely. As can be seen below though by my points, I paid the price for not winning the Asian Champions League. It's a shame I had a rough end to the season too as otherwise I'd have won a few more points. I obviously also had the inevitable "squad not happy with my management" early on in the season. Just strange that it came after we'd won our first 11 competitive games. I played my usual 4-2-3-1, even though it didn't set the world alight in SA (what do they say about the definition of madness). If I was to replay this challenge I'd be happy playing the same system again, for the most part it worked. The only thing I'd change would be placing as much importance on the long-term injured players at the start of the season. Stats-wise Jackson Martinez and Kim Young-Gwon were the best striker and centre-half respectively at the club. I dropped Muriqui from my ACL squad in the hope that I could bring back Martinez later in the season (when I'd obviously be in the latter stages of the ACL). Other than scoring a hat-trick in one game, Martinez never got going, and I fear bringing him into the team for the steady Alan led to a sluggish end to the season. Young-Gwon played no better than my other centre-backs. That said, it probably serves me right for placing importance on any foreign player given the rules in the Stage competition. After my time in Stage 1 however I just wanted to win at any cost. Alan and Goulart were the stand out players, but Long and Bowen were excellent Chinese players for me. Game of the season was definitely the 6-5 loss to Suwon in the ACL, stressful for myself but an epic for the neutrals. If only I had Muriqui available who knows what could have happened. But on reflection Suwon were just too good over two legs. Sorry deleted the save in frustration. My toys were everywhere at the time. First attempt - made it through to March but was sacked around 7th/8th in the league. Didn't lose too many but just drew a lot. Can't remember the names of the players but signed the same two in both my saves. Both did well and weren't the problem (a goalkeeper and left back from top rivals). Persisted with a 4-2-3-1 in my first attempt. I usually do ok with it but it just wasn't happening. Second attempt - league position was even worse and sacked around Christmas. Although I did win more against the top clubs. I felt I'd persisted with my formation in the first save too long, kind of waiting for it to kick in to gear when it was never going to happen. Second time round I probably changed it far too much, 4 or 5 different formations. Needless to say this didn't work either!
