I didn't even realise that the opening ceremony wasn't shown. That tells you how much I care about it.

The reality is that probably every country on the planet has some law that would prevent them hosting the World Cup. It's dodgy that FIFA force the hosts to cave to their often ridiculous demands in the pursuit of maxing the money FIFA make rather then accepting choosing a certain host might mean they have to adapt to local laws/customs.
In this case Qatar should have never come close to being allowed to bid let alone accepted as hosts for a multitude of reasons beyond the fact alcohol is banned in the country.

Any decent organisation would just say **** off and cancel the whole thing and sue the crap out of Qatar. It's not going to happen but one can dream.
More seriously it's always been extremely dodgy that FIFA force countries to change their laws to host the World Cup. Qatar should never have been chosen as hosts but having been chosen they shouldn't have to be forced to allow alcohol sales because it's hurts FIFA sponsors.

It's actually ****ing on all day again, though we are rescued by Ninja Warrior and Masked Dancer this evening.
At least according to my EPG it's only on BBC One and ITV now. The other BBC channels and Channel 4 and 5 are 'normal' programming again. I've been watching Freeview channels since Thursday that continued on just as normal, maybe they cut adverts but I zone out when they are on so haven't noticed a difference. Though I don't normally watch TV on Saturday mornings and I'm only up right now as the builder is round trying to fix the final (fingers crossed) leak in the roof.

I haven't really watched any of the coverage since the announcement yesterday, but I did watch some of Charles' address (missed the start). I think he came across really well and it was a very good and moving speech. I've never really been a fan of him but if he carries on like that he'll be a decent king.

Why is the FA getting disciplinary charges? Wasn't the reason that Germany couldn't do that rainbow light show because UEFA were in charge of the stadium?

I don't really understand how xG is calculated, but for me England had fewer but better chances whilst the Czechs had more chances overall but they weren't as good. Except for that Soucek chance which he really should have buried.

I think its just because were just so ridiculously dull. Obviously anyone would take winning a group and conceding 1 goal but the performances dont leave you all that positive really.
We've hardly looked defensively solid either. Probably conceded more good opportunities then we have created so far.

I also understand Foden not playing on a Yellow and giving others a chance, but not even on the bench that includes 3 CBs
He does realise we're 2nd in the group and need to win, right?
Do we need to win? Want to win yes, but aren't we already guaranteed one of the third placed qualifying positions no matter what happens?

Have we changed formation from a 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1? It's the only formation that makes sense to me with those players.

Its southgate, when does he ever take off 1 of his 2 holders? He's the dullest and most boring manager at the tournament. People keep posting these adventurous lineups like we dont already have 4 years of Southgate to know better. We all know it'll be Rice/Phillips again on Tuesday and we know Kane and Sterling will both start.
To be fair it might not be Rice/Phillips on Tuesday. Henderson might be fit and it will be Rice/Henderson which is marginally better. I was actually massive surprised Henderson didn't get onto the pitch tonight maybe he isn't going to fit enough to actually play a game and Southgate has ****ed the squad selection by not bringing enough midfielders.

Maybe I'm being harsh on Sterling as he did make a few good runs but failed to control the ball any time someone tried to find him, which wasn't very often. I'd still have taken him off for either Rashford or Sancho. Once Rashford came on him and sterling almost collided running into the same space on the right.

That game is the perfect example of why we never win a tournament under Southgate. Terrible performance and the manager does virtuality nothing to change it. You've got five substitutions in this tournament and you don't even use the usual three.
Kane should have been hooked earlier had awful game, Sterling left on to stink up the whole 90, and persisting with both Rice and Philips for the entire match when they've done nothing to link the defence and attack. Too timid from Southgate.

I've skipped two versions of FM, and I'm trying out the FM17 demo. How do I retrain a player to a new position? I'm trying to retrain Alex Pritchard to natural at AM(C), he starts out at Accomplished, but I can't see a specific option to retrain. Is selecting training him as Advanced Playmaker from the AM(C) list and playing at AM(C) enough?

Maybe they weren't right then, probably as I am trying to use the "best" Tutor personalities possible so the difference is maybe too big. I have just seen one end really badly for the first time, and I've had loads of flat out rejections.

Depends on how your DM plays and your system. I always like a little height, but its not essential
I like him to help out defending set pieces, so being decent in the air is a bonus same reason I passed on a 1.59m FB. In the end I decided to buy a slightly lower potential ability DM who was a bit taller who I can hopefully train to get 10-12 Jumping Reach.
Mainly I was worried as my current crop of youngsters are all short and I'd end up with all the players in the middle of the park with 6-7 Jumping Reach.
I've got another stupid question. Is "a little disappointed but gain some insight in the mental aspect" the best result for tutoring? It is the only result I ever seem to get, the only difference is sometimes the tutoring ends earlier. So if the tutoring lasts a long time and I get that message is that the best possible result?

Looking to replace a DM I just sold. I can buy a potentially world class one, but I'm not sure about having someone who is 1.67m with 6 Jumping Reach. Is a DM that short worth it?
The old DM was decent in the air, the current first choice DM is so good in the air he could be a CB. The rest of the current midfield is decent in the air, but the youngsters coming through the ranks are all pretty short and awful in the air.

Tutoring is explained in here;
http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/380395-Ajax-When-Real-Life-Meets-Football-Manager-FM14
Kind of forgotten about that thread. So I think I'm decided on just tutoring the DC with the Professional personality tutor none of the others seem worth it without using an external program to compare all the hidden stats.

Okay I'll go through the current tutoring options available to me.
1) GK with a Resolute personality. Has 12 Bravery, 5 Aggression, 16 Determination, 12 Eccentricity. I would like to get down the Eccentricity if possible, but I like the Resolute personality it's one of the ones I look for in new signings so I'm not sure it is worth bothering with any of my possible tutors. Possible tutors are Spirited, or Fairly Professional.
2) CD with a Professional personality. 17 Bravery, 10 Aggression, 10 Determination. I'd like to get the determination up at least a few points, but not sure if losing professionalism and bravery is worth it. Possible tutors are Professional but with 13 Determination and 13 Bravery, or Fairly Determined with 16 Bravery.
3) DR with a Resolute personality. 4 Bravery, 6 Aggression, 17 Determination. I'd like to increase the Bravery significantly. Possible Tutors are Professional with 13 Determination and 13 Bravery (same guy as for the DC), or a Resolute tutor who ideally I want to sell in the next transfer window and bring in a better player, but that wouldn't be possible if the Tutoring works out.
4) ST with an Ambitious personality. 7 Bravery, 6 Aggression, 16 Determination. Current options aren't great within the squad, only possible tutor is Fairly Ambitious with 12 Determination and 11 Bravery. Likely I won't bother Tutoring unless I can buy someone in the next window who can both play in the first team and be a good tutor which is unlikely given the club's reputation and finances.
Those four are just the youngsters that I'm not sure about what to do with regards to tutoring. I have 4-5 others who definitely need tutoring but I don't want to tie up my senior players tutoring the "decent" youngsters until I've worked out what to do about the "great" ones.

I'm not sure how or even if I should tutor some of my new crop of youngsters. Any advice would be appreciated.
1) GK with a Resolute personality. Has 12 Bravery, 5 Aggression, 16 Determination, 12 Eccentricity. Pretty sure it's not worth Tutoring him.
2) CD with a Professional personality. 17 Bravery, 10 Aggression, 10 Determination.
3) DR with a Resolute personality. 4 Bravery, 6 Aggression, 17 Determination.
4) ST with an Ambitious personality. 7 Bravery, 6 Aggression, 16 Determination.
I'm not going to list all the possible tutors but there are options for all of them except the ST and I'm hoping next seasons transfer budget will be big enough to buy someone.

On FM13 I briefly managed a World Class goalkeeper newgen from China. Didn't get to manage him much as the clubs previous manager had annoyed him and he was leaving on a free transfer. I couldn't even buy him when I moved on to Bayern Munich as he hated me as well by the time he left.
I think it was FM10 when I got bored of my save I load up Genie Scout and found that potentially the best player in the world was a South African striker who had spent his whole career at Kaizer Chiefs. I played another season or so and despite my best efforts to scout Africa he never appeared in any report, no wonder he never left and lived up to his potential.

I guess this is just a coincidence, but I changed my training regime by unticking rest before matches. Now I've played about 10 matches of a new season in the Championship and I'm getting injuries left, right and centre. I can't finish a match without one or two players coming off injuried. I knew that increasing the amount of training would risk more injuries, but in four years in League Two, One and the Championship my players are lucky to have two days training a week and that is normally spent on match prep. Is it worth having an extra training a week, or is the rest going to be more useful to my squad? My clubs training facilities are awful (literally), and my coaches aren't that much better.

Thanks I'll give it a try. The guy who has improved is the one who successfully finished being tutored so is Professional, I'm going to ditch the other guy and find someone younger. I think the Veteran schedule works really well, it's kept my current keeper's physical stats up nicely since he hit 35. The new schedule is just for developing 'keepers right?
The rest of the schedules are showing some nice improvements.

The manual on composure: ..snip..
The manual is hardly clear on certain attributes. Just read the blurb for Agility, certainly doesn't seem like it would be important for a 'keeper does it.
Any back to schedules. Has anyone had a good experience training up a keeper using these? I tried with two keepers, both 17 when they joined, and they have both played 5-10 games a season in the first team. One has progressed decently, the other hardly at all. Now they are 21 one is Championship quality, the other League One. It shouldn't matter for another 2-3 years, but I've always had trouble training quality keepers.
