This is just some basic thoughts from me, and I will happily contribute more if you need to.
I have been tinkering with the 41212 narrow as well, and your explanation of how the system should work made a lot of sense to me. I made this system from what you said in the above paragraph. Does this seem ok to you?
The strikers mark the opposition CBs and the AM marks the DM. If there's no DM, I change him to an Enganche.

Curious, what club are you?
Bayern Munich

Few of the starting players are there (Model Professional - Kimmich, Perfectionist - Goretzka). Rest are transfers, position retrains and newgens (especially the last one )

Playing a 4141-Wide system. When facing 2 striker formations, I change the defensive midfielder to a Half Back so that my CBs don't get outnumbered. Facing formations with 1 ST (with or without AM), I change him to an Anchor Man so he can block passing lanes to the opposition ST.
Is this reasoning correct? If not, what would you change?

Can you point out, where exactly to do that ?
The session shifting part? Or the Wednesday and Saturday match button?

Thank you, one thing is I'm managing in Argentina and there are a lot of matches on sundays
Just shift each session to the right. You could also tick the Sunday and Wednesday match button in settings - that way all your schedules will be uniform.

if you can spare the time to create a couple of schedules for me that would be great too
Based on your requirements, I came up with these 2 schedules - the first one is for the offensive players, and the second one is for defensive players. When you create the schedule in game, make sure to balance the workloads per day (heavier early week, to gradually lower mid-week and then match preparation training right before the match). If the players moan about high volume of physical training, replace them with practice match sessions. Let me know if you have any questions.

I use the training planner to create schedules for my youth team (been doing this for the past 2 editions of the game), focusing on the attributes they need to develop in order to be successful in the main team. If you can tell me what style of football you want your team to play, I am sure we can cook up a custom schedule for you.

defending throw-ins seem to be stuck on default setting no matter what I do.
I manually setup every defensive free kick, corner and throw-in routine every time I adopt a new/change my old tactics. Even then nearly 1 in 3 (anecdotal) highlights has the players in the default setup. Example - In my 4141 DM formation, the default routine has the DM on Go Forward, while less defensively aware wingers keep marking players in the box. Although I changed this manually, frequently I'll notice it's still the DM forward. Mostly they follow the routine, but sometimes they don't. Kinda frustrating NGL.

Well written. Read your blogs too, loved them. My question is, how do you approach training your squad to increase their DMR?

Can you check plz how many players you have on the pitch when setting up a throw-in in the tactics screen. I still have 10 (including the thrower), my CML is missing in each and every save, on both sides.
Because I think they have to rework throw-ins completely.
I've had this problem when trying to load throw-in routines. Usually a reset to default and updating the routine manually helps.

Looks pretty, will test it out. I play at 85% zoom and use the regen face pack, hopefully there won't be any issues.

Will be more careful next time, my bad.

Your post came just in time because I was try to work out a style where I was aggressive in defense, but ball possession in attack. So I used your third example to setup my tactic and it works like a dream.
Could you share what you came up with? I was thinking of setting something up similar, but couldn't get around to do it.

Symmetry looks nice but remember that in the game it is variaty and unpredictability that helps create better scoring chances and breaking down those pesky defensive "park the bus" sides.
I am trying to get that asymmetry from the PPMs and not the roles. For example, one of my CMs has gets forward whenever possible and tries long range passes while the other has dictates tempo and comes deep to get ball. So I have 2 different players, but they both share the same role.

Also, to mold complete footballers, try putting your attackers in the defensive unit and vice-versa for 6 months. Also another tip - when training youth players, make sure they are training in roles that emphasize on technical and mental attributes; physicals will come naturally (IRL, would you rather have a 16 year old practicing their technique and learning about football or would you send him to the gym to get buff?). Example - attacking midfielders with high flair are trained as CM-D or BWM-D, wingers with low teamwork are trained as WM-D/DM-D, strikers are trained to cover at wings and get trained as WTM-S etc.

oh I might try MC, any instructions?
Shoot less often. In home matches, I would try adding get further forward but I have 4 away games back to back as of now

If you want to get the best out of schedules, you will have to adjust them manually. The AssM will handle it fine during 1 game weeks, but in weeks with 2+ games, he'll not schedule enough recovery sessions/match prep sessions and keep physical sessions. If not edited, your youth players will develop slower. I adjust the training schedules for all 3 teams (Main, B and u19) once a month and review them every week.

I've been even thinking of change then both to Box-to-box players do as too encourage more late runs and not clog up opposition half too early in build-up.
I changed the Mezzalas to CMs instead and it has been going well. I've also done the set-pieces, free kicks and corners are set such that the backline (RB,CD,DM and LB) rarely moves upfield. Throws are taken from Guido and all defensive routines have been compiled from Daljit's streams. AMR and AML take right and left corners respectively. DR and DL take right and left throws. The defensive routines assume that the anchor man is tall enough to deal with aerial threats (in my case, they are highly technical CBs). I've attached the tactic as well as the result of the latest match.

I have been using a similar system as well. Reading the article made me realize why it worked.
I use a volante and regista as well when my first team plays, but the kids tend to dribble a bit more than desired and lose the ball.
Formation is very defensively solid, and with the right personnel, works wonders.
My save is into it's 10th year now, and with the squad assembled, the formation is a joy to watch
