Yeah, potentially vulnerable on the left and lacking wide support on the right (due to having a conservative fullback role along with a holding CM role behind an inside-oriented wide fwd).

Up front, the AP may struggle to exert influence due to reduced space caused by roles both behind him and on the flanks.

Potential isolation of the AF is another thing to look for.

Defensive TIs more aggressive than necessary, especially when coupled with lower-than-optimal compactness (especially for a system such as 4231).

How would you try to make the left more stable  am thinking of using 4-1-4-1

If you want high-pressing football, then you should reconsider your formation in the first place, because the flat 4141 is too defensive (bottom-heavy) for such a style. Although I am not sure how good an idea it is to play such kind of football with Watford anyway.

But you don't even use wing-backs. You have both fullbacks in a fairly conservative role (FB on support), so it's unlikely that you'll get what you want.

I normally use WBs (s) however in the screenshot I changed it thinking it would help the defence due to the problems.

  3. The reason why both CMs are on support is because I assumed that they would pick the right moments to go forward according to the situation but e.g. one CM sees that his partner has gone forward so he holds and helps the DM out and vice versa but I might change this and also I might increase the tempo as testing this has increased my shots / shots on target in the games I've tried it.

You can improve this tactic by:

    - making it less one-dimensional (not only that you have no variety on the flanks, but even your central midfield consists of 2 identical roles)

    - removing/replacing instructions that are needless or potentially risky or inconsistent with the rest of the tactic

For more specific advice, you'll need to explain/describe what style of football you want to play and why.

The type of is meant to be  high pressing football played quickly through the flanks with wingers cutting inside to create space for WBs who can put in dangerous crosses for either a CM pushing up, the striker or a winger tucking inside to attack.

This tactic has worked really well consistently in the championship and League One with mid table teams and even works well against Premier League teams in the cups but as soon as I am promoted the problems start.
