Finally started playing FM after a few years break.  Took some getting used to with the new layout and tactics but think I'm getting there now.

Anyway started a game as Leeds, like their style of play and the young team intrigues me.

Jack Clarke has bee immense for me so far, despite being out for a few weeks injured.

Long way to go yet mind!

Here are my results and league table so far:

Tactics (found in this thread but I've tweaked the roles and settings slightly):

I could get Clarke to score and assist from Aml as IF but could never get a high rating from him. Did u have him as mar WA all season. Looks well adjusted to the role

Yeah I'm still going. Currently into season 3 and going strong in the prem. Current squad is

    GK: Thomas Strakosha / BPF

RB: Benjamin Heinrichs / Lewie Coyle

CB: Nikola Milenkovic / Harry Maguire / Pontus Jansson / Rob Holding / Jorge Mere

LB: Lucas Digne / Tom Pearce

DM: Lucas Tousart / Wilmar Barrios

CM: Sandro Tonali / Donny Van De Beek / Sander Berge

AMC: Ben Woodburn (Loan £30m option) / Roben Loftus-Cheek / Sigurd Gronli

LW: Dani Olmo / Antonio Marin

RW: Florian Thauvin / Dennis Man

ST: Moise Kean / Andre Silva / Fiete Arp / Jack Clarke

Pretty happy with the team now and comfortably turning over every team outside the top 6 in the prem and doing well against the top 6. Invested about 20m in youngters in the summer because I was lacking numbers so should have enough depth to do well across the cups and the champions league as well as the prem!

1st season won Championship with 100+ points, 1 transfer in only (Marin) 2nd season i was 3rd, just two points behind Liverpool and Man city. City won on gd. We won Caribou Cup. 3rd season in Feb still have Pearce, Elioski, Coyle, Jannson, Ideguchi, Phillips, Clarke,  Klich, Roofe, BPF and Shakleton are in 1st team squad still. Couldnt develop Dalby and Edmondson tho. Too few games to give them all time!

I give up on leeds. I tried every downloadable tactic praised by people here and on fm scout, I tried tactics developed by me, I tried 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 5-3-2, 5-2-3. Regardless of what I do, I always end up mid table with leeds. Somewhere around 12-14.

4141, geggenpress preset. Full backs on attack, inverted wingers on attack and the striker as dlf s. Any variant of bwm dlp and ap have worked for the midfield 3 for me. Keep trying!

Just loading my first save up now. Hoping I can do the same as bielsa is doing IRL. Another aim is to bring through as much youth in the coming years

Plenty of kids to bring through in Coyle, Clarke, Shakleton and Edmondson. Ive got to prem and maxed my Training facilities, youth recruitment etc but avg only 1 player each intake at 3.5 stars or higher&most of those are 3.5. On one intake i got my first 5 star newgen striker with no determination, workrate and developed fairly unsporting as a character trait. Doh.

With a couple of transfers I found the team quite suited to possessional, attacking football. The team is fairly well rounded so with a couple of additions you could build a good basis for almost any tactical approach. though.

Found 4141 with geggenpress v strong.

Cooper and Jannson scored 10+ goals in Championship and first year in prem.

Added look for overlap, and dropped line of engagement by 1 notch.

Opposition instructions showed every opposition player into centre of pitch.

Promoted 2nd with very few signings.

Plenty of game time for hi~potential youngsters like Roberts, Clarke, Shakleton etc

    Sk A BPF/

    FB A Douglas

    BPD D Cooper

    BPD D Jannson

    FB A Ayling

    IW A Roofe/Brown

    AP A Saiz

    DLP D Klich

    IW A Harrison/Ezszszjjjjaaaaaneeeer Elllehossski

    BWM (DM) D Philips

    DLF S Bamford

2nd season and we slip into the Champions League places plenty of points behind the others.

There's definitely some weakness in the set pieces in this ME.

Pontus and Cooper come up for every throw, corner and free kick but neither are 10 goal a year boys...

If I secure a Euro place in any competition the squad is looking very lightweight.

  8. Bielsa has got the boys running IRL and its the first season I've been able to watch games without hiding behind the sofa since Beckford was flanked by Gradel and Snodgrass.  I've got so caught up in "Bielsa" I've jettisoned my normal 433 for a 4141 in the teams current image.

Ins and outs below  with Marin also coming in June 2019 for 2.5 million. ( I was happy with the wide players I had and didn't want too large a squad.

I like to think we have got the best forward thinking fullbacks in the league hence the inverted wingers and look for overlap.  I've got the IW on individual instructions to cross less to allow the FB more frequent opportunities to join the attack.

Still feel we are missing familiarity in the IW positions but the players I'm going to use have sufficient quality to compensate I hope.

Pre seasons gone well... wish me luck

@macca72 Great start to the thread for this year

Only realised today that the game was out for Beta already! Downloaded it this afternoon and will be starting a save tonight.

Cant wait, Leeds should have a good squad for this years FM just need to get my head around the new tactic changes.

    ~Edit:

Noticed a fair few free agents which might be worth looking into at the start of the game:

Didier Ndong (Former Sunderland CM, 24 - Was good on 2018 so could be a money maker if he can be brought in and sold at a later date) - Made a contract offer for him.

Papy Djilobodji (Former Sunderland CB, 29) - Possible good option for centre back cover, taken him in on trial but may have WP issues.

Dennis Diekmeier (Mentioned here already but could be a good back up to Ayling, 28) - Brought him in on trial to give him a chance.

Assane Gnoukouri (DM / CM, 21) - Might be worth a punt if WP is possible. Again thinking of selling on at a later date to make a profit.

Serdar Tasci (CB, 31) - Similar to Robert Huth just a little Younger and a little quicker. Could fill a gap for a season.

Has anyone been able to sell any of the existing squad / send any loan players back? (I've noticed you can extend the loans for an extra season on 50% less wages and remove the loan cant be terminated option - but when could you cancel these loans then?)

Seems easier to sell in this FM. Dallas, Okane, Hernandez, Berradi all gone for value or higher within 2 weeks of listing on 1st day of save. Like some of those lads but injury prone players dont fit the small squad i want to run!

If there’s any players without a termination clause, you can submit a loan extension until End of Next Season and put the clause in there. Once it’s gone through, you can cancel after 28 days. You can also use this to lower the wages - they’ll sometimes ask for less than current and often take less than they ask for. I’ve done that with all my loans and took about 30k off my wage bill.

    Good tip sir!

This is the tactic that I have in mind. Like your advice, I chose to instruct the back 4 and CM(d) to play short passes. The triangle in the midfield is instructed to close down more and the regista and cm(d) to mark tighter. Of course, the regista is instructed to play more direct, risky passes. Now to the inside forwards... I instructed them to close down much more, and get further forward and roam from position when we have possession so they'll get away from the herd and find space so maybe the dlp will find them with a long range pass. Maybe I'll even instruct them to stay wider. As a lone striker I chose a Complete Forward(S) as I don't know yet what role might work better so the CF does it all.

All in all, we want to retain the possession and dribble less so we will keep possession in the midfield, work ball into box so we won't waste many shots and I guess this instruction will keep recycling possession through my deeper players, and pass into space when the time is right. We will also mark tighter in order to regain possession fast.

This is my thinking behind this tactic. I have only 5 matches to play this season, including a FA Cup Final against Liverpool, but I'll test the tactic in the next preseason. I'll post here updates.

    599e094376698_NottinghamForest_Overview-3.thumb.png.01acbe75ae635b96657343a5ede9d8cf.png

Here you can see the starting 11 that I have in mind, maybe there'll be slight changes to it. Now bare in mind I am nowhere close to a world class squad, but I'm trying to improve in the long term. The media predicted that I'll finish 20th this season and I'm sitting in the 9th place with 52 points and 4 matches to go, 6 points behind Chelsea who's on the 6th place. My objective is to finish in the top half and I intend to do so.

    More updates will follow.

To accomodate Asensio and a regista i think youre going strikerless!

Asensio is an amc all day long but no goal machine. Not ideal to have him as 2nd playmaker role either.

Regista i feel needs 2 directly in front and wide runners.

Id setup with if a on either side of amc s.

It may bee too much of a novelty and reduction in goal threat just to see regista "running" the midfield. Or some sort of crazy 31411. Without the conditions of Asensio and regista id move Asensio on to get best of regista.
