In my experience, playing another style will not get you fired as long as you reach the other goals. And if you have a lot of success, the board will (very) slowly change towards what you are doing, at least that's what has happened for me. I have played at smaller clubs mostly though, so it could be something else for bigger clubs.

Do you have multiple disks (or partitions) and try to save on a (almost) full one?

Merthyr Town - Season 2027/28 Review
Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances
Well that was quite a good season for our first go in the Vanarama National! We are clearly a bit short at competing at the top, but we are no whipping boy either! It's all about stabilising at this level now, and keep getting in talented players and then make push, or try to make enough money to go professional. Those are the two closest goals for us, I think. Some of the bigger teams around have started to sniff at a lot of my players, but not many bids yet. A few poaching attempts, but I've been able to give out new contracts to the talented ones for the most part, even if a few have slipped out. I'm beginning to see the outline of good team here, but we have some lacking points. We miss an excellent goalkeeper after we lost our best, and we miss a left winger and another striker. If we were to get those positions done in the next few years, we have a chance.
In the FA Cup we beat Hampton & Richmond and Preston before losing to (League One!) Sheffield United in the 2nd round.
In the FA Trophy we beat Welling United before we lost to Spennymoor in the 4th round.
Youth
I don't know what to say about this preview... excellent, but everyone are poor...?
Not a bad intake, but of course not as good as the previous ones. Still, I think we can use some of these players.
Carl Wells 28d is a very good attacking left back and I he should prove most useful.

I think it's based on personal preference, but also on what resolution (and zoom) you play at. I play at a high resolution and have zoom to 95%, so I have plenty of screen real estate and the full text isn't very intrusive to me and I just prefer it like that.

How important is the "favorite formation" for HoYD's? I want to do this challenge using formations like 352, 343 and 361, but it's hard to find a good HoYD with a 3 ATB formation
It impacts what type of players you get in your intakes, but it's not 100% at any rate.
Quote from the opening post:
QuoteHead of Youth Development (HoYD)
The club’s HoYD is responsible for bringing Newgens into the club. He will influence what “type” of players are selected and can partially or fully pass on his personality to some of these Newgens. The “type” of players selected refers to a player’s position and style, for instance a HoYD with a preferred 4-5-1 formation and a Technical Coaching Style may produce more technically styled midfielders than another HoYD.
The HoYD will also influence the rare “freak” or exceptional Newgens that come through, modifying their ability and style.
This role is filled by the HoYD by default, however if none is employed whichever staff member is set to be responsible for youth development will fill this role.1 -
I'm moving this to the tactics forum, because this is a tactical discussion. Please post a screenshot of your tactic and someone should be able to give you some pointers to help out.

Try to remove downloaded leagues and see if it works.

Wow...
I think you may have solved my problem...
I have played 5 iterations of FM, and put many, many hours in, but I never would have thought of that.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes (no option to make a board request yet).
In the meantime, thanks so much for responding!Happy to help if this fixes things. I couldn't think of anything else that could have caused it, so I hope the option to improve them will show up in a few months.

You don't share facilities with another team? Have a look at your affiliates and check. It's the only thing I can think of, of the top of my head at least.

squeaky bum time with those final four matches!
Yeah, it was really tough, and we got saved by one man in the last two...
Adam Amos 22i scored in each of the last 3. Including the most embarrassing 1-1 draw to Staines. They ended the season on 10 points and no wins. And that was one of their points... To be fair though, they deserved that point from us. All my players were nervous wrecks at that point. I think I have some low pressure attributes in the squad, since they seem to shut down whenever things go down to the wire.

That's what I'm talking about! We did it, winner of the Vanarama National South! It was a hard fought battle, though, and even though it doesn't really look like it from the final table, Havant & Waterlooville was our bigger competitor for most of the season. It actually looked like a real two horse race for a long time, but both teams had a horrific ending to the season. Bath City, Barnet, and Dartford on the other hand, had great finishes and caught up with Havant & Waterlooville, but we just barely manage to hold on to the coveted top spot and direct promotion to the Vanarama National! I think we will struggle next season, but a promotion is welcome none the less!
In the FA Cup we beat Grays Athletic, Tonbridge Angels, and Sutton United before we lost to QPR in the 1st round.
In the FA Trophy we beat Mickleover and Haringey before losing to Bromley in the 4th round.
Youth
The previews are pretty good.
The intake is actually pretty good, even if the potential is lessened than compared to the previous ones. I think it's the actual level of quality in the squad who has improved a bit to counteract here.
We are getting stocked with talented midfielders, and Gavin Mann 27c continues that for us. Though his very high aggression and very low tackling is likely to cause some bookings...
Statistics:
SpoilerQuite a varied intake this time as we added Morocco, South Africa, Poland, The Philippines, and Australia to the list.

Merthyr Town - Season 2025/26 Review

Steady improvements, and this season continues the trend. We finally got into the playoffs, but failed a the first obstacle, away to Eastleigh. Still, I'm more than happy with how things are going. The most important thing though, we got an improved youth category at the end of the season!
In the FA Cup we beat Swindon Supermarine, Darlington, and Morecambe before we lost to Gateshead after a replay in the 1st round.
In the FA Trophy we beat Histon and Basingstoke Town before losing to Boreham Wood in the 4th round.
Youth
The previews are pretty good.
This intake is really good. Lots of potential, but also some good ability this time. Not the best personalities though.
Owain Edwards 26e is a really good midfielder, and I think he can be really useful for us.

XaW, how did you manage to change the region? Or why did it happen?
My club is located just around the North/South line between the divisions, so if more teams North of us are promoted, then suddenly the line is above us. So I guess I can swap between them based on what teams around us are in this tier.
Perhaps @JLAB put it better!

Merthyr Town - Season 2024/25 Review
Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances
This is what I would consider a breakout season for us as we moved over to the Southern region of the Vanarama regionals. I tweaked the tactic to give us more goals, and we did get a lot more goals, but we also conceded quite a few more as well. Still, it's a net gain, so I'll consider it successful. We had a good chance of making the playoffs, but we had a horrid finish where we lost 4 of the last 5 and slid down the table. It was a very good season though, and with a bit more experience I think we have a shot at pushing for a playoff spot.
I also got accepted a request for an improved youth level, and the board started building better youth facilities, and that will really help us down the line.
In the FA Cup we beat Wimborne, Rushall Olympic, Scunthorpe, Maidstone, and Blackpool before losing to Barnsley in the 3rd round.
In the FA Trophy we lost to FC United in the 2nd round.
Youth
The previews are pretty good.
Really good potential, but I need more ability really.
Alex Pembridge 25a is a very talented player, and his pace will make him a good winger for us.

What determines the ability of pre-gens in game?
Also with regens?
Is it purely down to facilitates or is there more at play? Like tier within the league structure, reputation of club/league/nation?
Have a look the opening post of this thread. There is a long list of things there.

This is a tricky situation, because you kind of is in a position where your leadership will suffer no matter what you do. If you sell him, "you caved" according to your team, but if you don't, you've broken your word and thus the trust is gone. I think you did the right thing, the real answer will be when you find out if the replacement was good enough. Failure to bring in a player, not only as good, but also who works as good (or better) in your tactical setup. Both in FM and the real world, ability alone might not cut it.
I've often found myself using a poorer player since he just does better than the best one. Some time ago I had this striker who was not rated by the coaches, and his attributes were not great, but he often scored the winning goal whenever we struggled to win. I had several better strikers after a while, but no one could do it like Old Reliable. So I stuck with him until he was about 33 and his physicals had started to drop a bit too low. I was in the PL, and he was rated as a "decent league one" player still. I sold him to a Championship side for about a million pounds, and he didn't work there and drifted down the leagues from that point on. Still one of my favourite FM players of all time!

Merthyr Town - Season 2023/24 Review
Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances
A much better season that the last two. This time we were even up and sniffed on the playoff spots at one time, but in the end we settled in mid-table. It's a world better than the relegation scraps we've been involved in the last seasons, and I hope this bodes well for the future seasons. But as long as we stay here in the middle next season, I'm more than happy with out progress.
In the FA Cup we beat Morpeth and Hereford before we lost to Barnet in the 4th qualifying round.
In the FA Trophy we beat North Leigh before losing to FC United in the 3rd round.
Youth
The previews are pretty good.
Not great personalities, but good potential at least.
Luke Davey 24e is a really promising defender. His pace isn't amazing, but most defenders here are much slower than him.

How do some of you guys play so fast? Do most IR in these sort of challenges?
I play with commentary only (2D while getting my tactic in order) on a very fast speed, so the games go by quite fast for me.

Merthyr Town - Season 2023 Review
Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances
Another season fighting to avoid relegation, but we stayed up once again. I had forgotten how hard the English leagues are, and how savage the other teams are in picking up top team rejects who will just tear up the league on a regular basis. Still, it's a slow process for us, and I think we are improving as a team. At the end of the season I only have 7 of the original 12 players in the first team squad, so the youngsters are slowly filling up the spots. There is some wild swings in form, but that is to be expected from a side with so many young players. So the grind continues!
In the FA Cup we went on a bit of a run as we beat Bashley, Dorchester Town, Havant & Waterlooville, and Salford before losing to League 2 side Plymouth in the 2nd round.
In the FA Trophy we beat Slough Town, Altrincham, and Atherton Colleries before losing to Solihull Moors.

The previews are pretty good.
Another good intake with good potential.
I'm very happy with getting in Brett Casey 23f to fill out the DM role.

I don't know the specifics, since I've never fiddled with it, sorry. I just know they are connected, so I thought it could be expanded.

It's because of the storage space you mentioned. And since you have set it to 300 MB it will start to remove the oldest ones when it gets full. If you want a longer history, then you should be able to by expanding the storage space. I don't know how far you can (or should) expand to, but that would be the reason, as far as I know.
