  1. Very interesting. I would say that it's clear from the OP that you understand the importance of all the peripheral factors to success in FM14 and as long as people take this into account when studying your results, then these tests can be very useful for highlighting particular trends and traits of tactics. Unfortunately, you are going to get people saying that because it isn't perfect it must be useless, or because it's difficult to attempt then you shouldn't even try. Ignore them. There is a lot of interesting information to be gleaned from your spreadsheet even after accepting that morale, confidence, staff, pitch size, weather, hidden attribute for "prone to biting other players as he has acquired a taste for human flesh" are taken into account.

On the subject of the spreadsheet, one cell that raised an eyebrow was the shots off target for the opponent in the PPP 14.3.1 target. Seems extraordinarily high compared to all the others. This is precisely the sort of thing that a test like this is great at showing.

Keep up the good work. Will follow with interest.

  2. Cleon is a woman aswell?! I have only just managed to comprehend that TheBetterHalf is female too.....

Clearly men are deemed incapable to run these forums..perhaps rightly so lol :p

Anyway, Hough how's your testing coming along? any unforeseen issues?

Common mistake, a lot of people still don't realise that Paul can be short for Pauline and are therefore pretty shocked when they meet Paul Collyer for the first time

  3. Well... I've been trying out various tactics from various people lately with my lower English league save. I gave them each a good run and almost all were pretty decent, the main difference seemed to be on the defensive side of things. All other things being equal, I've decided to go with Dave's AWAY tactic from #733. I just can't find another tactic that has the same level of control defensively yet still gives my strikers enough goals for them to wear bizarrely coloured boots without looking complete prats. Using it for all matches, home and away, I don't really find any of my attacking play stifled, yet it dramatically reduces the opportunities the opposition gets with the home version.

  4. i found if you use thes settings for 1 of the 2 strikers in the 41212 formation he bangs the goals in

    Ay up Crags, thee alrate?

I've just been trying these settings but I must be doing summat wrong. If I set it to poacher - attack, then my creativity setting by default is 4 to the right. In order to get it as low as yours, I have to tick it and set it manually. Obviously I can do that, but it makes me wonder why....

    Cheers

  5. No you dont need to do anything. We are just running through idea's at the moment. When we come up with a sure way that we know works long term we will post it. Strikers do still score pretty reguar. In my tests the 2 main strikers usually average around a goal every 1.5 games between them.

Thought I'd try a few things myself to see if I could persuade one of the strikers to be more of a Gary Lineker (for those of you younger than myself - yes, he actually played a bit before selling crisps and trying to cheer Hansen up) style 'poacher' as discussed in the earlier thread.

Here is the original instructions :

And here are my tweaks :

As you can see I've increased mentality towards attacking, reigned in the creativity a little, and I've also decreased through balls to sometimes. The reason i've changed the through balls setting is (a) this player is now more advanced in attack and therefore not often in a position to play through balls and (b) I want him to concentrate on putting the ball in the back of the net.

Early days and they are very minor alterations, but so far it's working quite nicely. I watch the matches in real time so I can tell exactly what differences any changes make. My poacher is scoring much more frequently, and is really concentrating on getting in front of goal and shooting.

I may also lower the "run from deep" and see how that affects him. I may also adjust the AMC now to try and take into account the new poacher.

Just my two penneth to the debate, I know that I haven't done much and it may not help anyone, but I really want and try to help Mr H & JP by actually trying things as opposed to the leeching of his tactics that I'm guilty of until now!!

  6. Decided to find a half decent AMC to try and sort my bunch of misfits out. Managed to persuade a Brazilian fella with a Spanish passport (looks fairly genuine but I won't ask too many questions) to sign on a free transfer for £45 a week. Scored a hat trick on his debut and we won 5-2. Normal service is resumed. :-)

BTW Dave, loving the June Promo Mix. And the tactic lol.

  7. Was playing with the Mr H & JPW tactic so far this season. 34 played, 2 losses, top of the league. Switched to the new 41212 and played a couple of games but unfortunately lost both including losing 3-1 to the team at the bottom of the division. Clearly I need to look a lot closer at the difference and try and work out why this has happened. Might have to switch back to the previous tactics to make sure I dont lose out on promotion first.

Thanks again for the tactic Dave, at least I know when I lose matches with your tactics that it isn't the tactic but my players that are the issue, or to be more correct, its MY choise of players thats the problem!!

Ok, so I know that this was a preseason game against a side that's not offering much resistance... still It was 9-0 at half time but the opposition parked a large bus (copyright Jose Mourinho) across the goal line at half time. Fortunately they left a few windows open, hence the extra 4 goals.

Whoever came up with the phrase "There's no easy games in football" has clearly not taken the time to investigate Mr Hough's (Plough's, Dough's, Rough's, whatever) latest tactic!

  9. I think Mine and JP's tactic is awesome and the best tactic yet.

Bold statement but i haven't lost in 26 games with everton league and cup.

I've signed 3 players Gaston Fernandez on a free and Mike Hanke and Fabian Lustenberger both on loan.

I'm currently unbeaten in the league having already beaten Arsenal man utd man city Chelsea tottenham already

I've drew 3 games 1 in the league against wolves and 2 games in the Euro Cup both against an ultra defensive werner brennan team.

In the league I've played 15 won 14 and drew 1 scored 35 and conceded 9 I'm 4 points clear in 1st place and i have 2 games in hand.

I don't use OI's or in games Shouts I don't change the tactic regardless of what team I'm playing if I'm winning i keep in the same if I'm drawing i keep it the same if I'm losing i keep it the same.

Once again I never change the tactic.

I'm writing this because I'm sick of being asked the same Questions over and over and over and over again.

Read this do what it says and success will be yours!!

Yeah, yeah Dave... thats great and all, but what do you change during the match???

Seriously, keep up the good work.... my Newcastle City players are counting on you. They've gone from non league to premier champs winning every championship on the way, now I just need the European Cup (I'm a traditionalist... it was and always shall be the European Cup to me). Oh, and moonlighting as England manager we hoisted the World Cup. Used every one of your tactics on the way.

    Thx again.
