8/10 - a lot of great games, especially in the group stages when many of the smaller nations performed better than expected and the final!! Well, one of the best, if not the best ever.

As Finals go, that was a cracker. Both teams gave their all (well, France after 75 mins) and there was no way to separate the teams at the end...well apart from penalties and we were treated to one of the, if not the, best World Cup finals of all time. Huge congratulations to Argentina and commiserations to France who came so close to retaining their title.
There were some high scores in our league due to the very kind and generous bonuses on offer and everyone who played scored bonus points, some better than others of course. Almost everyone predicted Messi and Mbappe to score the first or last goal and as there was a 2,000 points bonus on both, many of you scored well. Nobody won the super mega bonus for the one million points - in fact nobody could win it after the first goal in 23 minutes.
There were also 2,000 points for the total number of substitutes and nobody scored for this either. The game went to extra time, so they both had an extra sub, which they both used and Giroud was a concussion substitute, which gave France an extra sub.
Only one player predicted that the game would go to extra time and only one player predicted the hattrick.

Fantastic effort by the Whoopster - a huge bonus round in the semi finals catapulted him to the top and a decent bonus score here saw him retain his place. Proud and defiant, he has seen off all challengers and becomes the beloved, sagacious, illustrious and insightful leader where he will remain for the next three and a half years. Very well done to him!! a wonderful achievement.
Meanwhile, The inspiration has come through the ranks and sits in second place, thanks to the highest bonus score of the round with a super impressive 4,915 bonuses. He moves up 12 places. Very well done Jaggie and very fitting for one of the legends of the prediction leagues.
Completing our podium places is a relative newcomer to the prediction leagues - Mahzun, who although he drops one place, will be absolutely delighted with third place - fantastic game - very well played Mahzers for an outstanding effort.
Darius did himself no harm with a huge bonus score as well, moving up one place to fourth for a great finish just outside the top three. Rob!! Rob, Rob, Rob, what a result. The most experienced lower placings resident of most of the prediction leagues finds himself in fifth place - let me say that again for you Rob - fifth! Fantastic effort and he rose 10 places this round.
Also climbing high is Smallen one of the members of our Hall of Fame for winning the round of 16 - remember they can never take that away from you and the Hall of Fame table is copied below in case anyone forgets! He rises a whopping 14 places and is our highest mover for the round.
GunmaN falls one place but cements his place in the top ten by finishing 7th, Gizzygooglegogglepops moves down one to eighth, while Craig rises a handy three places to ninth. Completing the top ten, is Vikie, who drops one place but was higher up the table than before due to a score correction from the last round.
Very well done to all our top ten - a real and proud achievement for you all.
Just out the top and falling one place, Fuller drops to 11th, while Seb roars up that engine and just runs out of road to finish 12th. The Golden Boy drop three to 13th and he will be disappointed, whereas The Old Git moves up six places to 14th. He will be glad for the three and a half years rest. Chris realised just too late that he forgot to post his predictions - bad luck Chris, I think the quick turn round from the semis to the final caught a few people out but he falls a big 12 places from 3rd - what could have been!
VP jumps a huge 10 places to 16th, while Jeroen beats that by jumping 11 places to 17th. Big moves but too little too late for both. Prediction league brother Pompers climbs a decent five places, while Constantine drops the same number going the other way.
The Legend drops nine places due to a poor bonus score and I drop four places for the same reason. Orzelek drops four to 22nd, while poor old Oriole, a member of our Hall of Fame drops a huge 15 places as he failed to enter.
Av3ry is our final scorer and he rises three to finish in 26th place.
We had a few more DNEs this round although most of them picked up some pre-tournament bonuses which made minor changes in their positions.
Well, that's it for another three and half years - thank you so much to all who entered. Very well done to our winner, Whoopy D, our top three and our top 10.

This is it - the FINAL.
Once every fours years (ok, four and half this time) one nation will rise and stand proud and attain the heights denied to the others.
Argentina v France for the ultimate height, the ultimate accolade, the bragging rights and the recognition that they have triumphed over all others (well, those they played) to be top of the world.
So, is it Messi's turn? Will he achieve what up till now has been unachievable? Or will France become only the second country to ever win two World Cups in a row and Didier Deschamps become the first manager ever to win two World Cups in a row (yes, I know Brazil did it but they changed managers between Sweden and Chile).
First though the tedium of the third place play off. I mean, come on, who really cares? The countries don't care, the managers don't care, the players don't care, the fans don't care, the media doesn't care...so why should we?
No bonuses for the third place play off, except the normal points for the correct scoreline and results. The nap will apply to both games.
Scoring
Predict any time up to kick off the score of each game (You may change your predictions at any point up to the kick off time by either editing or reposting). Any changes made after the kick off time will be disregarded.
Predict each score. 50 points if you get the win/lose/draw right and 100 points if you get the exact scoreline right.

Semi-finals come and go, the heartache only heightened by what might have been. Tears, tantrums and farewells mixed with partying and celebrating. It's goodbye Croatia and Morocco, so close yet at the same time so definitively consigned to history. Step forward Argentina and France for the final test - Messi against Mbappe if you will - for the greatest accolade the game can offer.
Talking of accolades - let's hear as many whoops as you can muster...oh, about 6,149 whoops should do it for our new, spectacular, stupendous WoopyD!!!! A gigantic score among gigantic scores. He was the only player to nail two 2,000 point bonuses. In total he predicted: the total number of goals, goals scored after 90 mins, number of hattricks, number of games going to extra time, number of penalties scored, the first team to score, the time of the last goal (2,000 points), the total number of red cards and the total number of substitutions across the games (2,000 points).
Very well done and no more Whoops-a-daisy, more Whoopee!!!! He also had a meteoric rise of 30 places - 30! - to take top spot going into the final games. He has gone from rock bottom of the regular contributors to the very top - you see everyone - it can be done! Woopy, doopy do.
Other player scored big as well thanks to the big bonuses and another big mover was Mahzun, who, like the whoopster, climbed an astonishing 23 places to second place. Very well done to him for a fantastic round and a huge bonus score.
Mind you, Chris wasn't exactly hanging back either as he rises an enormous 27 places to complete out podium places. Fantastic score.
Rob, that experienced denizen of the lower end of prediction leagues is not experiencing it any more with a leap of 11 places to fourth - big bonuses mean big moves. A sentiment not lost on Darius, Gunners and Gizzygogglepops who all took advantage of big bonus scores. Darius and Gunners move up seven and five places respectively but despite his huge score, Gizzlegiggs actually dropped one place but he won't mind that.
At this point I had to check if the world had turned upside down because the table certainly did and while I was musing the absurd notion of the world turning upside down (I mean, in space nobody can tell which way is up) I saw Oriole, our previous leader. Down but not out, he resolutely remains in the top ten, in eighth place but dropping seven. Fullers climbs a huge 20 places to ninth, while The Legend drops one place but manages to remain in and complete our top ten.
Craig drops out of the top ten with a fall of six while The inspiration is another big mover, climbing 16 places to 12th while in an extraordinary outcome, Constantine is the only non mover at 13th. Will climbs an impressive 10 places and The Golden Boy climbs four and I climb 10.
Orzelek climbs two but poor old Hoarau drops 11.
Meanwhile, Vikie will be pleased by his rise of two places.
World turned upside down? Table turned upside down? Here is the proof. The Old Git and Seb in his Ferrari drop a calamitous 17 places each and still being ahead of prediction league brother Pompers will be no consolation.
Smallen drops an acceptable five places (it could have been worse!), while prediction league brother Pompers falls three places, closing the gap to The Old Git. Caffers drops one, to 24th. Lucas confounding the promise of earlier rounds, falls nine places to 25th, while VP drops a disastrous 25 places. Not far behind, Smalldini falls 17 places. Jeroen drops 15 places to 28th. Av3ry brings up the rear of those who competed by falling two places.
Disappointing that YouReds and Mr Wallin did not enter - especially as YouReds was sitting mighty handily in 8th position.
So, increased pay offers for our winners and questions about "where are you really from" for our losers.
The final fixtures will be posted shortly - and expect fireworks!!!!
