AI managers would have preprogrammed patterns of play (based on real-life preferences) with some degree of flexibility (dropping and adopting new PoP over time), depending on tactical knowledge, adaptability, in-game performance, etc.

Of course it would still be possible to play without PoP if one chooses to. In that case, the players would be left to their own devices (as at present, essentially).

You don't think it will still end up like how it is now? The preprogrammed pattern of play for the AI will never beat the creativity of the human manager

  2. I think the starting point is always to ask the player’s agent because you get information regarding the player’s interest in joining you, potential asking price and wage demands. You can also reduce the wage demand if you talk to the agent.

By asking the agent you can already know if you can afford the player or not

  3. @batsy23 I've only read the first page so far and while I do agree that sometimes the game can seem like you're finding a meta instead of managing a football team, I still think that other systems work as well. The tactic below is what I'm using at the moment (ignore the players. I also don't know why it says "custom vertical tiki-taka as I didn't touch any of the presets) and I wouldn't call it a meta tactic and it has been working very well so far, the lines are not super high, I'm not using low crossing or high tempo either the only roles that change in some games are the RPM and WB to DLP and WB on support. It's not a plug and play system either because I tried it in a different save I carried over from FM23 with a struggling semi-pro team and it didn't help at all

Bump on this request, I am really struggling on why this player is not considered U21 for UCL purposes given that he has been at my club for 2 years before his 21st birthday. The way the game calculates it seems so confusing

I don’t have access to the game at the moment but usually it tells you if a player is eligible if his born before x date so although his still 21 he might have been born after that day.

I have shortlisted a whole bunch of players, because they are players at particular positions that I may be interested in approaching in the off-season. It's more like a "next time I need a left back, see what these people are up to" kind of list.

I really don't need to be bothered any time someone approaches them, but my mailbox is constantly inundated with updates about them. Is there somewhere that those emails can be disabled?

    Thanks!

In your shortlist untick the box that says "keep scout report up to date"

So I don’t think these achievements should be used to determine or argue difficulty.

I agree with you you. My argument was not the achievement per say but the fact that they will some kind of data that they use when deciding the direction they want to take the game and although we players might see the game a certain way because of how we play the data might say something completely different.

For an 'easy game' in which a lot of players will gravitate towards the top level clubs the number of people with the 'won a domestic league' steam achievement seems pretty low at 38% ...

Those are the kind of data a company would use to make future decisions. Not everyone who plays the game comes to the forum to interact so although most people that come here find the game easy the reality is that most people don't so it's unreasonable to dedicate too much resources to only accommodate 38% of your fanbase.

I know this is just for steam and there are many more people that play on console now plus I have no idea how they count the player; does it count people that installed the game and played just once or does it only count people that have played for a specific amount of time.

"Players under 24 years old who reach the end of their contracts and have not been offered new deals of greater or equal terms, can move elsewhere for no compensation"

What does this mean?  I would assume that anybody reaching the end of a contract would be able to go where they please, because they would surely be free agents.  Does the team have to pay a subsidy to someone over 24 if I let their contract rundown without selling them on?

I have never let someone's contract run out because I'm something of a hoarder of players, but this rule has always confused me.

I think that rule is there because in some leagues when a young player has a year left on his contract (in England it is 6 months) if another team offer him a contract they would have to pay a compensation fee but if the contract has run out they won't have to pay any compensation fee

Part-time players should be dropping dead after half a dozen games using GP

I think it was 2 years or 3 years ago when they did that but not to this extreme and this form was filled with people complaining that their players couldn't play 3 games in a row because they were tired.

We see the same with injuries where every year people complain there's too many injuries when in reality it's nowhere near to the amount of injuries IRL.

Also in defence of SI they did introduce sprint capacity which if I remember correctly it was every player knowing how much they can sprint before needing to recover and Jack Joyce did mention that I see the good there are 2 condition bars where I've functions like stamina bars in some games where if you run or do something physically demanding that bar will run out quickly and you have to rest a bit before you can do something else which is physically demanding so maybe if you out all that together it evens out. I have no idea

What does football have to do with the changes FM devs are making to the game?

For example now they have removed the hard coded instruction to WB and W to run wide with ball and the graphic above shows that it is not a good combination.

My point was that even if the roles get little tweaks every year the fundamentals are still the same. A wingback is not going to suddenly start acting like an inverted winger

I think you are mischaracterizing (and/or misunderstanding) what is happening in the game. This is my interpretation of what FM is trying to reflect:

Player A wants a new contract. Manager says no (or says yes, but talks break down because agreement cannot be reached). Player A is understandably unhappy about this.

Various things could happen at this point. Player A might keep matters to himself and simply get his agent onto the case. Or he might start complaining to some of his teammates (particularly those he feels closest to, or those he thinks are influential) about the situation.

If he complains, again various things might happen. If Player A is popular or influential, or if he is regarded as an important member of the team (and just because a manager might not regard him as important doesn’t mean some of his teammates share that managerial view) then those players might agree with him. Things might then escalate a little, especially if those players are influential, and it might result in a little solidarity among a group of players, such that they will raise the issue with management. Management might deal with this well and resolve the situation, or management might deal with it poorly and things will escalate further

I don't have a problem with this if I was renegotiating a contract with one of my players or if he has a year or maybe 2 years left and his trying to secure his future at the club but I'm not happy when a player who signed a new 5 years deal 4 months ago comes back asking for a new contract

Mezzala does not attack the middle. You are thinking of CM(a). Mezzala goes wider and into channels himself so a striker moving into channels would actually be in Mezzala's space.

I understand what you're saying but we are both right. The players move based in their roles and also relatively to where the ball is and I agree with you that although a Mez will start a bit wide and attack that space there but there are situations where that channel is actually the centre of the pitch for example if the Mez is playing on the right and the ball is on the left the players will naturally move towards the left so that right channel where the Mez was would shift a bit to the left as well

Not the case as you can see in the attached screenshots...AEK is 3rd in average possession and top on winning it back..

I disagree with you because although they are 3rd for average position if you look at the possession graph you lose the ball a lot less compared to them so it makes sense that you don't win the ball back a lot because you usually don't give away he ball

This whole thing about Full backs having so many assists is absolutely true. In my FM23 save with St Pauli I can see many of them reaching between 20~30 assists per season, but I think I chose to ignore to enjoy the game more (which is something I do often but should not). I play 4231 and got my AMC to perform better by choosing support role with individual instructions, but still he can't reach the amount of assists that Full backs can in the game, which is kinda weird. I haven't tested a tactic like 4-1-2-1-2 with a fast full back (like thierry, frimpong etc) but I can see that it probably will result in many assists for a full back this fast.

I must be playing the game wrong because I don't score the amount of goals people on here score from corners (I don't concede much as well) and my fullbacks don't get close to those numbers for assists

Decided to start an Arsenal save following the update. First thing I’ve noticed is the lack of involvement from the striker (Jesus as CF-A). Then I looked a little deeper, he only received the ball 17 times in the whole 90 minutes vs non-league opponents.

Been watching the games pre-season and it seems that no one wants to pass it into the striker, through-balls or even just the striker dropping back and playing simple passes. Had 1 highlight where Jesus was unmarked running forwards into space where no defenders and still played it wide.

I’ve not set passing to focus anywhere, but am playing on attacking and slightly wider. That shouldn’t affect the passing though, right?

It was the case during the beta aswell

Weirdly enough just had a goal where my Amc played a great ball over the top for my advanced forward to run onto.

It's not that it doesn't happen. The problem is that it doesn't happen as often as it should. I can just pick a random game in my save and show multiple instances of players ignoring a free pass in the middle that would put a player 1v1 with the GK but they go wide instead
