  1. Must admit frustration got the better of me last night. Lost a really important game and decided to subsequently sell 24 out of my 27 players. Only 3 survived the cut lol . Got rid of all my older players (in total i generated 420m in player sales, shaved 3.4m off the weekly wage bill) and replaced all the player positions at the cost of 112m. My wage bill is only 1.1m now.  The majority of my team is now only 17-19 years old. Really interested to see if this turns out to be the worst decision i've ever made on FM.

  2. Must admit, was in my 6th or 7th season at Leipzig and was getting a bit bored winning everything. Then I made a rash decision I thought I’d regret, I resigned.

Holidayed for 6 months and then took over Brighton at rock bottom after 16 games played.

Aim was to survive relegation, managed a respectable 8th place finish, narrowly missing out on Europe.

2nd season I rebuilt the squad, replaced all oldies and bought good youth prospects. Managed to finish 7th, qualifying for Europa.

Anyway point of this thread, in a weird way, very weird indeed,  surprisingly I’m having much more fun. Still yet to win a trophy, but each game I win is much more meaningful.

anyway as the title says, have you ever just got bored and given a good thing up for no other reason than sheer boredom of winning?

  3. Anyone got any tips to win this damn competition. 2021, get to semi but get thumped by Bayern, I’m Leipzig btw.

then in 2025, make the QF but lose to Liverpool.

the fixtures in this completion are scheduled terribly. I had to play 3 games in 6 days and my players were absolutely dead on their feet, even with playing a different starting XI in each game.

tbh my second XI went into the competition with low fitness, maybe I could have played a friendly or two to build up fitness.

any any advice would be appreciated.

ive won 4 euro competitions in 6 years so know it’s not tactics, strategy or players before anyone asks.

I was just going to post the same!

Managed Leverkusen; considering in their history before i joined they had won one german cup and one uefa cup in total before i arrived. In 5 years since i have won 3 bundesliga on the bounce 2 german cups, 2 european cups and a european super cup and still stuck in favoured personnel. Surely i would be a legend in real life for just delivering the first bundesliga ever never mind the other string of big honours.

UPDATE: I have just been moved to icon status. All I needed to do was go unbeaten in the league, played 34, won 31, drew 3 lol scoring an incredible 113 goals along the way. made it to the CL final again, 4th time in 6 years, I now face A. Madrid in the final, but have a cup final to play against Frankfurt first.

    Which club?

RB Leipzig, so they’ve never won a league title before, never won a European title let alone three.

I support Arsenal IRL and if anyone had achieved that with them, who IMO are a much bigger team, that manager would go down as a legend. Defo think it’s broken and needs looking at.

  7. Crazy that I’m only on the favoured personnel list when I’ve achieved 5 league titles, a europa cup, 2 CL titles, and numerous cups.

what do I have to achieve to get to icon status?

i can see my players I’ve bought on their already!! I’m the manager, surely I should trump them all!!

This is majorly broken IMO, needs to be fixed.

  8. Anyone else notice when watching the game, if the ball is cleared away twice and you get a 3rd crack at scoring within the same highlight it always ends up being a goal, kinda ruins the realism as you’re just waiting for the ball to hit the back of the net, also makes you feel like the goal was programmed to go in - thoughts?

  9. I’m playing a 4-1-3-2 and both my strikers are pressing forwards on attack. Reason for choosing this is both run  the channels, much needed as I play without wingers, and I like to defend from the front. Not bothered about giving them different roles, sometimes identical roles can be just as effective, especially if they have different PKMs

  10. Going into my 5th season and I’m managing in the German league. I notice Bayern’s team is pretty much the same as it was in the first season, they’re even still playing 34 year old Lewandowski, and he’s slow as hell.

When I play top teams in the CL I don’t see this problem, their teams often look totally different.

Anyone else experience this or is it just me?

  11. I know these instructions sound contradictory and they are. But my very good tactic utilises them both, when using either as a stand-alone TI, my team isn’t as effective, and is almost broken.

when using both by team plays nice short, fast, and high tempo football, but when the opportunity presents itself, the through ball pass is made, if the opportunity doesn’t present itself then we go down the wings and work the ball into the box...

What are people’s thoughts on this?

    Nice story!

Camavinga is an absolute beast in my current save. Started at Lyon where i got him for 21M or so. Helped me win the title in my 5th year there. I moved to Atletico Madrid. Immediately signed him (for 91M) and he helped me win La Liga in my first season. In my 3rd season there, Man City bought him because of his 115M release clause. After three years of Atletico i moved to Tottenham. Just done my 1st year. Finished 3rd, while City where 5th. Unhappy about not playing CL i bought him again with Spurs.

Yeah he’s amazing, only reservation is my scout says he’s injury prone, hoping he’s able to play consistently for me.  How do you find him in that respects?

Man spends £200m and team gets better....... not quite a twist on M Night Shyamalan but always good to see City get done over.

And I'm with you on having to let some players go, it hurts, but can definitely unlock something new, be it forcing you to change and get better, or that it forces you to give a  youngster a chance who just smashes every expectation :D

Lol technically only around 115m when you take into account fee I got for Tonali. Yes I did just hit you with net spend logic.

This would have been a better story if it had been another club other than Franchise FC. :herman:

But on the whole, I agree, it's moments like this that make this game amazing. For all the (mostly undeserved) flak they take on here, SI continues to knock the management genre out the park.

Yeah it’s an amazing game, I obviously follow real football as a hobby, but even that has its flaws too, so using same logic, why should FM be any different.

ps I know RB Leipzig are universally hated, that’s why I went there. Kinda like being the bad guy of football.

  15. With all of the negative stories I’ve noticed on this forum lately I thought I’d share something positive to counter the balance.

X player decides he wants to leave, go to a bigger club even though he’s a big cog in a very successful team, in this case the player is Tonali, and he’s won Europa, CL, league titles, and cups with my RB Leipzig.

Now for about 2 years he’s stated he wants to go to a bigger club, thing is he’s the heartbeat of my team, averaging over an 8 rating per game, something like 25 assists per season, an absolute monster. Gets down to 16 months and I can see he’s not gonna change his mind. Bought him for 11m so negotiate a fairly high fee to sell him, 85m with add ons and off he goes to Man City.

At time of selling him I’m awaiting the first knock out round draw of the CL. It’s written in the stars, of course I’m drawn against City.

Anyway, I need to rebuild, and fast, I’m much weaker having lost Tonali.

I make wholesale changes, decide to completely revamp my midfield and formation too, I decide I need more control in the middle now, more numbers. Moving away from a direct counter attack team to more of a slower build up / more patient team, but one that can still play a through ball if needed.

This means I change from a 5-1-2-2 to 4-1-3-2 - however I  keep the DLP role as its still  fundamental to how I like my teams to play, I just remove one CB as I notice teams only play 1 striker against me, so having 3 CBs is overkill and as I need to control the game more I decide to go with one more man in the middle.

I start scouting a DLP, in this case, I’ve got my eyes firmly on Eduardo Camavinga, I end up getting him for 64m, he’s only 19 and can be an integral member of my teams for years, money well spent.

I also need an attacking player to play on the left of my flat 3 midfielders, who all sit ahead of my DLP, I end up going slightly crazy, probably still hurting from the Tonali sale, in an act of somewhat desperation I splash 128m on Kai Hertz. He’s more suited to the AMC role but I reckon I can train him to play well in the Mezella (A) role.

Anyway what happens next is some of the most delicious football I’ve ever seen on FM, flicks, tricks, lovely triangles, volleyed goals, over head kicks, simply amazing. My four midfielders just click, like Barcelona circa late 2000s

Camavinga picks up where Tonali left off, averaging a rating of over 8 per game, still same amount of assists but chips in with a few more goals.

Kai Hertz, what can I say, he’s almost as prolific as a support striker getting roughly 15 goals from about 20ish games. A truly magnificent player. Oozes class and has a silky left foot that offers natural balance to my team as I was previously playing a right footer on the left side of my midfield.

    Midfield is as follows:

    DLP (S) - Eduardo Camavinga

Mezella (A) MCL - Kai Hertz

    B2B (S) MC - Gedson Fernandes

Mezella (A) MCR - Dominik Szoboszlai

So we come up against City, new rules mean Tonali can face us even though he’s played CL games for me, first leg we beat them 2-1 at home. Nicely poised for the away leg. We take an early lead at the Etihad to go 3-1 and then Tonali does what he does best, assists a goal for City to make it 1-1 on the night, 3-2 to me on agg. Happy to say I hold out and go on to win the tie, then beat Napoli, Liverpool, and Barcelona to clinch the CL.

To cut a long story short, and the point of this post, the message that finally got rid of all my pain at losing my star player is when after a long slog of season, up pops up in my inbox something along the lines of “Having won back to back CLs, RB Leipzig are now the most reputable team in the World” - have that Tonali, boy did you make a mistake leaving  us, on form, we’re currently the biggest club in the world!

A big beaming smile on my face appears and I finally exorcise the demons of unrequited player love...don’t you just love it when that happens.

Whilst I couldn’t see it at the time, Tonali leaving was a blessing in disguise, it forced me to rethink my tactic, improve it, get better balance to my team, play better football, and ultimately, get better and more consistent results. Rebuilding is an inevitable part of the game, whether you’re forced to do it or not, it’s gonna happen. Next time I’ll go with along with it with a lot less trepidation.

  16. Won the CL in my 3rd season, fast forward to the 4th season and I’m in the QF of the CL again, only thing is, I’m yet to play in the world club championship - is this a bug?

Also, in my second season I made it to the CL final and lost 2-0 to R.Madrid, yet somehow I got to play in the World Club Championship, but it was played at the end of the season. Weirdly, all the big teams were in it too, Barca, Bayern, Liverpool etc and it was in a league format Then knockout - have I missed something?

  17. Ride it out. I’ve had Haaland want to leave my team now for 3 seasons, RB Leipzig. He wanted to win the CL and play for a bigger team. Was down to his last 2 years on his contract, decided I’d risk it and get him to sign a deal, knew I needed to win the CL.  Luckily for me I did just that, 2 weeks after winning it he says he no longer wants to leave, ended up signing a new 5 year deal. Only problem I’ve got the same issue with Tonoli, hoping he only takes a little longer to come around.
