May seem counter-intuitive, but take off work ball into box and play out of defence then add dribble less. Work ball into box cuts your penetration significantly. Play out of defence reduces your tempo further, so that the opposition always have time to regroup thereby reducing the space in behind - and you already have lower tempo. Dribble less makes sense because dribbling players don't keep the ball as well as passing players and you want to "walk the ball in" with this style, but on the other hand, some goals may not be scored because your players don't run at defenders and stretch their shape. Maybe that is a price worth paying if most of the time these dribbles don't pay off.

You can also try to add gets further forward to your inside forwards so they track back but still make forward runs during transitions so you have more options in the box.

You could also consider pulling your midfield duo into DM to control play from deeper and give your AP more space.

Consider either changing the DLP to CM(D) or (S) with hold position, or changing the AP to AM.

Consider changing an inside forward to a winger to stretch the opposition wider to make space for other players and allow one full back to stay deeper. On one flank FB(A), IF(S), on the other FB(S), W(A), or keep both AML/R on support and put the FB(A) on the flank of the holding midfielder.

Finally, consider playing a FB roles rather than WB. They will keep the ball better and are more defensively solid, primarily because they don't close down as much. They will still overlap if you give them a gets further forward instruction or attack duty.

Thank you so much! I'll adjust my tactic with your suggestions, they seem very logical to me!

I did not say that you should change BBM into a mezzala on attack duty - I would never ever do that in a 4231

But then again, it has obviously worked, so the risk has paid off :brock:

sometimes this kind of tweaks work, it doesn't sound logical but if you're a top side you can pull it off. seems strange but understandable. thank you by the way.

First make sure that your players are suitable for such style of play.

In case they are, here are some tips regarding your tactic:

    - even if you want to play very slow and patient possession football, you still need some decent degree of penetration in attack

    - counter team instruction (in transition) does not make much sense (if any) in a tactic that is so heavily focused on possession

    - even though you want to play hardcore possession football, 2 playmakers so close to each other is a tactical overkill IMHO

The above remarks pertain solely to the possession aspect of your tactic. However, there are a couple more things that you might want to consider in terms of making the tactic more balanced and effective (apart from its possession-related dimension).

thank you! just changed box to box to mezzala attack, even though it seems risky I have 10 match winning streak.

SI can't do a thing with screenshots. They need PKMs, so they can look under the hood and see if there are any bugs that need fixing. (Also bear in mind that insulting the developers is far less likely to get you a response.)

Seriously, guys? Do you not notice this stickied thread at the top of this forum? You REALLY should know the drill by now.

    Sorry.

High line is possible to play if you get it right in terms of tactics and personnel. I play a high line press and have conceded 12 goals in 33 games in the premier league.

Yes, 1-on-1s are still broken, but for now try and plan around it. Play a way that doesn't create 1-on-1 opportunities. You shouldn't have to do that, but if they aren't working then you don't really have much choice

thanks for the reply, will do that but this is so annoying and they have to work on that imo. Every year we wait for .3 update to play a decent game smh.

  6. Since the beta 1 on 1's are absurd. It's just absurd. Also high block or mid block defending is extra hard, every through ball opposition make is a CCC.

6 CCC and 5 HC, and I scored from a corner lol. Ok It's just a SS from one match but this is too frequent.

And the following match. This game is BAD. this is not usual, this is broken. this is a bug. Of course you can experience something like that in a football match but having 2 games in a row with 12 (twelve) CCC's and only score from a corner is RIDICILOUS. From this point any explanation to tactics etc. is just insulting your consumers intelligence. This is awful. Please fix this.

  7. First of all, I've been playing football manager for over 10 years, this game is more than a game to me I really enjoy, it has become a part of me. However, this years edition is making me crazy, This cannot be so hard to defend I mean it's not average it's scandalous bad. Everytime I go on an attack, my wingers or playmakers dwell on the ball and make a stupid pass instead of passing into space for striker and then they lose the ball and my ****ing full backs are nowhere to be found and my opposition scores with a 3 pass build up play, dribble past everyone in my defence. I consider myself good at this game, but I feel really helpless at this years edition, whatever I do my opposition has at least 3-4 CCC's. My attacking midfielders position themselves at the oppositions box and they do this without and effect then lose the ball then I concede, Every ****ing time it's the same ********, at least my 4-5 players average 6.4 or below. What is wrong? I need your advices.

I'm currently managing West Ham, playing 4-2-3-1

                Gk

    WB-s BPD BPD WB-s

         BWM-d  DLP-s

    IF-a       AM-s       IW-s

                 PF-a

    Pass into space
    Higher Tempo
    Work Ball into Box
    play out of defence

    counter press + counter

    higher defensive line
    extremely urgent pressing
    prevent short gk distribution
    use offside trap

I know my tactic is not defensive oriented and risky but conceding 6 goals at home is ********.
