  2. I started with União de Leiria, in 3rd division. Got the promotion the first season. Now I'm preparing my recruitment for next season!
  3. I have finally finished a season in FM18 and it's not with Marseille (after 4 failures), but with União de Leiria, in the 3rd portuguese league. The roster was fairly decent, especially in some key areas: the team report said the group was hard-working and willing to put in a lot of efforts, a high level of teamwork, with leaders and strong characters. So kind of what you need to get promotion. Took a few loans and a free agent for back-up. I was amazed during friendlies, especially when we started with a 4-4 against La Coruña (Liga). We were up 2-0, then 3-2, then 4-3, and conceeded 3 set pieces (I had forgotten to set them up) and as stupid own goal. Then we beat a club from second spanish division 4-1! We finished 1st in the group, and then went to the final of the playoffs and won 3-0, to claim the trophy. We didn't always play well, but I think we had just more talent and great attitude. I'll have to be better in my tactic because we should have been more dominating (we were big favorites against basically everybody). We reach the objective in the cup, 4th round. My striker, Leandro Souza, scored 30 in 34 games. In february I got a striker, Everton, in loan, and he did 10g and 5a in 15 games. I also bought, in january, the guy who was sort of the young promising guy in the division, Diego, who scored 4 goals and assisted 10 in 20 games (he actually assisted 8 in his first 5 games). In winter I also bought Duarte Valente, who is a bit known in FM18. Hopefully I will be able to land a few other promising players from Porto, Sporting and Benfica!
  4. Hi! I did my own set pieces but I don't really get anything from them. The positionning of my players is fairly simple: 2 players at the posts, one the keeper, 2 attack on each post, one comes from further and one stays around the box. Nobody else is in the box. I don't ask to shoot it anywhere precisely, because I don't really know where. I tried to shoot it at the first post for a couple of corners, both were shot straight at the penalty spot. The ones I've seen shot at the first post could never go past the first wall of opponents, who are closer than any guy you want at the first post. Often they should outside of the box, but I really don't like that: first, outside shooting is quite poor IMO in that game, and it often ends up as shots going 10-12m away from goal (plus my players aren't the best at shooting, so...), and second, it also can end up in my player not having real solution, turning his back to the defense who's coming at him, and trying to give the ball to teamates coming to help. So in the end, no real chance. I don't like short corners IRL, so I don't put a player to play them that way. Plus I'm afraid they would end up not crossing or stuff like that, since I'm often surprised at some things the players do (that don't make much sense) So I don't really know... right now I'm on "mixed" but I don't think that's the best solution. Where do you shoot? Have you found a style that works a bit better? PS: I have tall players good in headers, so this is not a big issue here.
  5. Ok so I think it's not a bug. They got me transfer money later, and the message was slightly different (this time, they told me they were giving me transfer money). Still don't really get the first donation then, not sure what that is about
  6. I've been playing lower, and used more opponent's instructions and it's been better. You still have some weird things sometimes but less (until you have that wimp of Luis Gustavo, not the Marseille one, with 8 in courage who runs away from any duel... great CB I got on loan!). Closing down is still quite weird though. Some tweaks made it slightly better too I think.
  7. Yeah I kind of agree on some stuff. Defenders are pretty bad in general. They often don't react (start moving very late for no reason), they very easily stop marking their opponents, they tend to leave their position to chase the ball around even if you specifically ask them not to You can make it better to a certain extend, but there are still things that don't really make sense. About attacking, the big issue I have in that game is shots going 10m away from the goal. How many times does a shot misses the target by 10+ IRL? Not that much. Yet in the game, you can can see it easily half a dozen times in a game (and not only our team, the opponent has it's fair share too). It's not realistic. That's one the biggest things I've notived in that game, since my first match played. I really think this should be corrected in a patch.
  8. I'll try lowering my defensive line, even though I quite often play with a lower line already. As a football fan, I can understand how players closing down a lot could create a lack of balance, but not how a player closing down decided to follow the ball for 30 seconds even though the teammates are already doing it.

  10. No close down more. I play the "Sometimes" level of pressure. I use the normal defensive line, a bit lower sometimes. My CBs weren't on mark tighter, but I put them on, hoping they would actually stick with the striker. My CBs have around 11/12 acceleration, and I got that issue with striker barely faster (12/13). It's more a problem of intelligence, of stopping instead of running, of leaving the striker alone, rather than a problem of pure speed.
  11. Hi I face an issue since my very first FM18 game. My players tend to follow the ball too much, especially on placed offensive from the opponent. Like, a player will get closer to the opponent facing him, the opponent gives the ball, and my player just follows the ball, even though there is a teamate already on the receiver. So you have 2vs1 on one side, 0vs1 on the other. I don't need to tell you who wins. An other precise situation wher eit happens: 2 CBs vs 2 strikers. A striker has the ball, the CB on his side gets closer. The striker gives the ball to the other striker. The other CB gets closer. But the first CB follows the ball. 2v1, 0v1, ends up in a quick 1-2 and a goal. The only situation where they don't really care about the ball is over-the-top through balls. I conceed most of my goals on that. I don't even play high or anything. But AI loves so much to launch 60m balls over the top, and defenders constantly leave the striker(s) alone. And even worse: when they are more or less at the same level than the striker, they stop running, and start again once the striker is 5-6m ahead. Got it 2 or 3 times in my last game, and a lot of times before. These are the 2 things that make me conceed so many goals. And I can't find how to fix it. Do you struggle with that?! How do you set up your central defense? Does AI use alot of over-the-top through balls too?
  12. I think it's a good comprise. I have a defensive problem that I keep seeing no matter my tactic, my mentality, my defenders, their speed, the formation I face, the speed of their strikers,... So basically: how to stop over-the-top through ball that goes right onto their striker?! No matter what happens, what I ask, or how high/low I play, even on situation where there isn't much space behind my defense, the AI just has to launch the ball there and the striker will always get it. My defenders just let the striker free between them (or the 2 strikers). They act very very dumb, no matter what I ask. I don't even count the number of goals I took when AI launched a ball from their half and my defenders, for no reasons, stood there and left the striker completely alone. Just right now: I take 2 goals like that from their striker (including the first where my defense is low, there sin't much space, yet it works). I specify my CB to mark him very tight, and literally the next action, they launch the crazyest ball and my defender, who was marking him, just decided to stop marking him just before and left him alone. Here that action: see on youtube One that one, gotta admit we're fairly high. But the 12-red marks tighly to 90-green, until he decides he won't anymore. Doesn't even bother coming back, and it's the other CB (who is on the other side, so further) who has to come back. And this is just one example of a very high number, in very different situations or not. It's like CB's AI is very dumb for us. Now I'm trying with a CB in cover, but he appears to be playing on the same height as the other one, and most importantly it changes nothing. PS: 90-green is 13 pace & 12 acceleration, 12-red is 11 pace & 12 acceleration
  13. Hi So I'm no sure at all it's a bug, but I'd rather report that in case it is a bug. I started with Leira, in the 3rd portuguese division, and they have a foreground sugar daddy (so he gives money for the fun of it). After around a month, I received a message telling me the owner gave 7M€. Yet, my transfer budgets hasn't change (was still 0€ at the time). My wage budget hasn't change (was still 117k€/month). The donation appears in the finances of the club. Yet it's nowhere to be found. It even told me, at the end of the month, that in total on this month, we lost 244k€. But as you can see here, we don't exactly spend 7.24M€ a month in that kind of club. We had no debt/loan (as you can see here on a screen at the very beginning of a save with Leira)
  14. Come on, you got to admit that's odd. There are well-known danish players other than those three. Plus he manages in Danemark: I'm fairly sure people have heard about Schmeichel or Dolberg there. I'm a portuguese manager, in the portuguese league, with only Portugal loaded, in FM Touch, and my scouts only know South-East America. I can find more danish players than that (5 outside of danish league)

  16. Yes I have no clue where that money is. It's in the financial report though. +6.9M€. But my transfer budget is still 44k€ and my wage budget is still 117k€/month. And it appears like we still lost 244k€ in the month he gave the money. Looked at the expenses: nothing in particular, biggest one is 86k€ for youth team and something like 80k€ for wages. Basically, he gave the money, medias said it was generous and we would be happy about it, but everything is like he never gave anything. Screens: Our finances - Money we get - Money we lose We don't have any debt or loan. I can't find the message saying the president gave the money, I guess it's too old.
  17. To my surprise Leira, in 3rd Portuguese division, is one of them (foreground too, so money for the fun of it). I started with them, and you don't have any money. Then after a month or two the president puts... 7M€ on the table! Put you still don't have money 7M€ would be insane for a club like that, but I haven't seen a cent of that money unfortunately
  18. By grow you mean as in "have potential" or that it could be better? The latter I guess, since if they had potential, it wouldn't be in the negatives. And I agree with that, but this could be said for anything. It's Marseille. The medical team isn't better. The scouts aren't better. The players aren't the best (although there are a few things about players in the negatives). The fact that it chose that, I thought it was for more reasons than that
  19. Maybe. I get nobody though. I'm french and in France, and I don't even get staff from the league. Nobody. Not a single person (literally, so the search result is completely empty).
  20. I'm trying support as we speak, and they don't go up enough. They really stop around 30m from the goal, even if the situation would ask them to go up (like if the IF in front of them has the ball and starts cutting inside).
  21. Is there a good compromise for full-backs to have them go up the pitch not too soon and recklessly, and still try to overlap when the team is in a good situation to do it? I have a 4-3-3 with 2 IF(a) and I tried 2 FB(a), and they were very high in the average position diagram, and one thing I noticed is that when the ball reached the bottom of the centre circle in the feet of my def mid, they launched themselves up to the mid point of the opposite half. I find it a bit soon and a bit too radical. I think they should go up to the central line for example. That way they would also offer solutions to my def mid. The problem is, support makes them cross from deep, which I'm not too sure about. Especially since I ask the team to wait for overlap (will the FB prioritize his individual instruction to cross from deep or team instruction to overlap?). Wingback seems a bit too offensive maybe.
  22. Disclaimer: I understand that this will be a controversial thread. But it's not how I want it. I neither have an extreme opinion on the subject nor do I intend to say the game is bad or anything. I want that to be clear before getting angry people telling to just get good and stop complaining, because this is not as much a complaint thread as it is a discussion thread. Hi. I've played CM/FM for years. Never been great at it, I just always enjoyed playing it, although I haven't played it much in the past 5-6 years. So I came back to FM16 and found a very complex, in-depth tactic system, which allows you to really decide what you want and get more realism. I think it's great, the game it moving forward, which each of the managing aspects getting improved and more realistic. But on the other side, I kind of feel like tactic became also a bit elitist. I feel like the biggest aspect of the game is the tactic, and there is no going around the complexity of it. Why do I play FM? Well, it's always the management of the roster that I love. Thinking of who I should get who to sell, how to manage the youngsters to develop them,... Tactics, I'm not too good at. I follow football (less now, but still), I don't shy from post-game analysis on tactical aspects and stuff, but I'm no tactical genius nor tactical afficionado who will spend 2-3 hours a day reading about tactics. Also, I decided to play FM Touch because I don't want to spend as much time as I used to in the game. Right now, I feel like even if you manage your roster very well, it's very hard to achieve anything (as small as being close to the objectives) without being extremely good in tactics. You can't be good at other things, and set-up a decently working tactic without knowing every single option very well and spending 2-3 hours tweaking it. I realize that as I'm currently trying to make a good tactic. I spent quite some time reading stuff about how it works, what to do/not do, then I spent time doing it, and the first results aren't exactly encouraging. Sure, the CM series wasn't one bit realistic, and this is not how I want FM to be either, but you could do decent with a tactic that you would do in 5-10 minutes. There is always the option of downloading tactics, but I feel like tactics are so much based on the players you have and their profile and their likes/dislikes, and so many stuff that you don't download an "offensive 4-3-3 based on pace" but you download "the offensive 4-3-3 based on pace I could do because I had that very specific player who can be a segundo volante and my full backs are quite tall yet fast and great at crossing and my striker happens to be great at tackling". That's a bit how I felt on that FM18. And if you tweak a single roles or position because your squad has it's own specificity, I feel like everything crumbles. So once again, it's a discussion opening. I think the tactical aspect is great, and I'm sure people who are deeply into football tactics must love it so much! And when I say stuff like "you can't" it's meant as in "I feel like you can't". I really hope this message will go through, otherwise I'm good to get hanged on town square What is your opinion on the overall importance of being extremely good at tactics in FM? (not the importance of tactics, but the importance of being elit at it). Is it the part you prefer? Are you good at it? And after all, maybe I'm completely wrong. Maybe you can do decent with a defaut tactic where you adjust a couple of roles and go.
  23. Well, first friendly was definitely bad. 4-4 against a second division team, they looked better than us. Players seem dumb: sometimes they just follow the ball, no matter where it leads them. I feel like AI makes way better decisions. I felt like I was letting them do anything they'd want, when I was not even in Fluid. Got 51% possession, 13 shots with 8 on target. We scored 2 after my subs came in and I had to play with wingers and crosses (although it's not really the crosses that made us score). When I look at the overall positionning of the team, it seems ok. We're not too high, there isn't too much space between lines. Sanson is a bit offensive maybe, but it looks ok. Yet on the pitch I felt like we were high in defense, like there were holes. We took 2 corners. The analyze says we lost the ball in the centre of the midfield. I do feel like a BWMd as CDM with a CMs or B2Bs and a APs as central mids might be a better solution. Leaves the striker a bit more alone though (and he already couldn't get anything in the first friendly). As a less dramatic change, I'm thinking about standard instead of control. Right now I guess I'll leave it that way though. PS: wanted to see the complete analyze, game froze during the loading; Guess I'll have to do without it
  24. Hi I spent time setting up my set-pieces, defensively and offensively, and I saved them (and then I saved the tactic, thinking it would save the set pieces with it). But then I switched tactic, came back to the first, and I have every set-piece to reload. In Touch we don't have different tactic slots, so we have to load the away tactic (for example) over the home one. But if it reset the set-pieces to defaut every time, that not going to be enjoyable... at all... I noticed it when I went into my first friendly and went to see the set-pieces: everything back to defaut. Have I missed something?!
  25. Sounds like you're doing good! Arsenal won't be easy though. On my side, I start my 4th save... I learned a bit more about tactic and I spent some time setting it up. On FMT I can't disable transfers, but I won't take anybody in the first summer. I've had a crazy offer for Bouna Sarr from Nantes (well, crazy considering it's Bouna Sarr): So I make 110k a month, and 1.8M if he plays 15 games. Hopefully AI won't play him 14 games
