No one knows. What are your issues with the match engine that makes it so you can't play? I tried to look for bug reports from you, but couldn't see any, so there is no way to know what issues you have.

There's a low level snark within this post which is quite commonly used in this forum and should be avoided imo, a player can still hold an opinion on their enjoyment of the game without submitting a single bug report - fwiw l disagree with the poster and think the ME is pretty good but it should not be the case where feedback is assessed against number of bug reports, especially when one considers how many niggly bugs are still in the game which have been reported for several years, many times over.

Yep, excellent post. A few of us have been trying to say this for a while, but ultimately some of those who it would benefit most often get the most annoyed.

This is where I'm also going to come back to @Jack Joyce.

Going into FM25 i think we need a glossary of FM terms, because as mentioned some of ways FM measures some statistics (Like OPPDA) aren't the aame as real life, which makese sense as its not exactly real life. But it does mean that context needs explaining more.

Also think a few footballing concepts are definitely worth putting in there, like a chapter on Positional Play, and a chapter on Rest Defence, as the two go hand in hand, and as game evolves, understanding transitions will be more snd more important. Almost like a bible. I dont think it should be play by play or hand holding, rather footballing concepts as delivered by FM.

Maybe one to pick your brain on in another forum, but (and this is based on what i see in GD and the tactics forum only, so this might be a narrow collection of view points) i dont think enough players either grasp, or have enough footballing knowledge, or perhaps some do, but they cant easily translate what they know about football to FM. Updating the manual and adding more holistic insights might be a great way to bridge it

The glossary you mention, if implemented correctly, would be immensely helpful. There is a big gap between what a player would like to organise his team to do and what buttons require pressing in order to arrange this, regardless of footballing knowledge - I'm a 4-4-2 hoof ball dinosaur who has played fm for decades but still can't say to my DLP(D) to repeatedly smash the ball over the opposing left backs head for my W(A) to run on to at half time, l have to suss out which instructions do *what* and they often take longer to fathom than the ten second verbal instruction I'd give irl.

There's an issue with this which causes created teams to have no pre-season friendlies, but several friendlies arranged during the season. Is there any possibility this can be rectified?

I'm assuming nobody else is having this issue? If there's any way to fix it please let me know, it's a save-spoiling quirk for me and I'd like to remove it before starting a save.

Pitch wear was a real issue in the early betas and it had been taken too far- consequently I think that they went back to the drawing board, so apart from making sure that your graphics driver on your toaster is fully updated, I doubt that there is much that you can do at the moment.

This would kind of make sense but I'm getting no weather effects whatsoever, just looks like the exact same subbuteo pitch whatever the conditions - which is the graphics slider which affects this? They're all set to medium atm so I'm wondering if the game is just like this by design, if so it could do with some improvement imo.

  5. Possibly not the right thread to drop this but has anyone else noticed the pitch graphics are significantly poorer now than they were in fm17? For example I've just played on a pitch so terrible the media made a fuss about it, but it still looked like a snooker table on the match screen, kind of ruins the immersion somewhat. I'm running medium graphics on a toaster laptop, is there any tweaking l should do to improve this?

    Hi Danchinaski,

Many thanks for your feedback on this! Regarding the clubs without stadia, this is only for Level 10, as I have filled in any gaps in the leagues above that. I have added cities, stadia and colours to the three clubs you mentioned in the latest update, which can be found in the description as usual.

As regards your idea about creating a common database, I'm certainly all for it. Perhaps we could use the discord to work out the finer details?

Regarding the London bug, that's the first time this has come to my attention, but from what you are saying, I suspect that this is a new feature this year (previously it would be given as "unknown") which is perhaps in need of tweaking (perhaps the city of the person's first club would be a good estimate?).

Apologies for being so late in coming back to this (had taken a hiatus from FM full stop due to real life getting in the way) but I'd be very happy to contribute in terms of research/data for lower league databases, if we get one solid block of accurate data down it would probably only need doing the once, with minor tweaks for future editions. Getting the lat/long co-ordinates for stadiums for example, is time consuming research but once done it should be forever accurate - drop me a message if l can help with this.

  7. It's the latitude/longitude of the stadium they play in which causes this issue, with these databases I run a quick soak season, check which teams have geographically shifted where they shouldn't, check their location details on the datafile and input them when missing. Also worth setting the parameters of each league geographically (n,s,e,w towns) to keep a clear lock on this kind of movement.

  8. Had a test run through this and all good so far, only a few issues to report which you might want to look at:

The regional movement between leagues for a couple of clubs is off, they end up in the Northern League. These clubs all have no stadium (Aldermaston, Greenway, Ringwood) and I've found in the past that without a stadium anchored to accurate latitude and longitude coordinates the regionalising doesn't hold up after a few seasons. I've added stadiums to these clubs and will see how it goes on another test. There were a few other odd movements too. eg Rainworth moving to the NW Counties League should not be happening. I'm not good at editing, but do wonder if there's a way of inputting all these strict stadium data co-ordinates into one editor data file and then basically enabling lower league creators to carry that over for future editions, if there is I'd be willing to help out with regard to inputting this if required. I've also noticed that players/staff without a birthplace now default to 'London' as their place of birth, this detracts from realism somewhat, is this a known bug?

Other than that, this looks like a great piece of work, especially given the complications of the leagues restructuring - this is the only way I play the game and this database makes it possible, thank you!

Passing it back the keeper from almost halfway when youre very attacking, when youre down by one goal, in the last few minutes of a game. Just happened to me, two games in a row.

That absolutely infuriates me, I've seen this happen with full overload set-up with intention to keep hoofing the ball into the box, still the player will turn around and punt a 45 yard pass back to the keeper.

Not ashamed to admit that I fast forward some matches by holidaying through them... not everyone's cup of tea.

But the matches I most look forward to are playing against lower league teams. It gives me a chance to fledge some youth players. I absolutely love getting lower league teams in the cup games, or getting lesser teams in Champs League/Europa League.

I watch these games more than I watch the league games... I love seeing my youth prospects hitting the pitch.

What matches do you look forward to the most and why?

I too enjoy this, l get a great thrill from seeing a carefully cultivated prospect have a storming game against lesser opposition and effectively putting himself into first team contention, like a new signing.

At the opposite end I'm very much a "dreads big matches" player, whenever there's a big match I've a tendency to fast forward through the first half, especially when using a contain/counter tactic, as it's impossible to watch my team under relentless attack without having an urge to desperately tweak. I've found fast-forwarding means l stick to the plan more abd usually get better results from big games.

I have been polite and very fair in replying to you on this thread. So have others on this topic.

I am starting to feel that you like ‘click-bait’ arguments.

My final comment to you is this.
SI could give you all you want in FM21 and I firmly believe that you would still find something to be negative about.

FM20 is by far the least satisfying FM I've played, the usual caveat that these forums tend to house the hyper-critical with regard to FM feedback does not detract from the fact that FM20 is very much a sub-par release with so many glaring flaws, if FM21 were essentially FM20 but with added COVID19 as per your suggestion it would be a very poor game imo.

    With respect...

…..Your mood is not what i am interested in or referring to when i made my comments.

This is an unecessarily crappy tone to adopt, bad form to open a post with "with respect" and then post in a supercilious and disrespectful way which may cause offence imho.

To make my point another way, adding soap opera elements would not improve the game any in my opinion, FM20 has numerous ME issues and the game still hasn't managed to incorporate media engagement in a meaningful way and this also needs significant attention, I'm personally very doubtful that adding off-field events would be successful. Fwiw l would like to see more difficult man management, I'd be keen to have players who are notoriously difficult to manage (Maradona, George Best, Balotelli, Gascoigne types) but this can be achieved without spamming us with news items about arrests and extra marital affairs.

  13. Your corner taker finds the ball cleared directly to him but instead of taking advantage of this opportunity to send in another delivery while both big centre backs are up, he allows the ball out for a throw and the set-piece is wasted. I'm sure there is a magical combination of instructions which prevent this but this is a prime example of possibly the biggest source of fm frustration, the inability to convey such an easy verbal instruction, which would have been irl dealt with in a brief chat on the training pitch, with the fm user interface.
