Simple crafting of a 4-3-3 DM

I'm slowly working my way through this topic, but have one key question: has the game/match engine changed significantly enough that this wouldn't be applicable to older versions? I have an ageing laptop so tend to play either FM15 or FM20. I know not all the roles in FM23 were available in either of those versions, but I assume the same principles apply.
