It's not really unprecedented. Remember when SI fixed the game to throw up a news item where it was discovered the 2022 WC host selection was rigged and so it was being stripped from Qatar and moved elsewhere?

    Or the whole Brexit thing.

If you want to make SI out to be political, that's fine, they have been on occasion. But there was never a news item about host selection being rigged, the WC used to be moved because of " 'club protests about tournament scheduling'. The reason it was always moved to the summer wasn't political either, it came down to nobody knowing what the schedule would look like. Once it became more clear, I think in FM19, the World Cup stopped moving from Qatar.

They are paying 5.5M to get him in January.

The optional fee only kicks in at the end of the loan so they can't bid that now.

That is correct. However, the AI should be able to recognize that they could trigger the clause for the summer, and only pay 2.9m + the peanuts they are playing in loan fee + wages and keep the player for the same amount of time. There's no reason for the AI to buy him early for a higher price in this case.

  3. It's about being developed as a football economy. GDP, Human Development Index, democracy, or whatever else doesn't factor into the rating. Why would it, when the game is about football?

Developed countries in FM context generally offer higher wages for footballers. Where exactly the line cuts off between developed and developing, and if Poland is on one side and Czechia on the other, I don't think anyone can answer. It's possible things like that haven't been reviewed for a while, and both should be developed. In the greater context, it doesn't matter though. If you can manage in Czechia and have a realistic experience, then whatever background stat is assigned is fine.

If you feel really strongly about getting this changed, I suggest contacting the head researcher for the country in question.

You're definitely right, it is designed that way, to keep things in game as close to the real world as possible. For those of us that would like to take lower leagues and clubs and bring them to the same heights as the 5 big leagues and the Man City's, RM's, Munich's etc, that's a design element that restricts our ability to do that. For those people who play the big leagues and big clubs or simply are happy for the football world to stay more or less the same to RL across many many years of simulations, then it's not a problem. It's all about what someone wants out of the game. For me, those limits are a negative thing. For you not. For the OP, i think that design is a limiting factor in his ability to play a hungarian club and remain competitive with the wider footballing world.

As I said, one of my recent saves has been 15 years in Denmark, and I have extensive experience managing in smaller European leagues, even outside the top divisions. I love managing small clubs/nations and bringing them to the top. But that things take time and the game world being somewhat static otherwise still isn't a problem for me.

Design isn't the limiting factor for a Hungarian club. In fact, it's the design that makes it way way too easy to make European powerhouses in small leagues.

The problem here is that any league that starts FM with a lower rep compared to the big leagues will never catch up to the big leagues in terms of financial weight in the game. Sure the reputation might catch up, but the game will never treat the Hungarian division as on par with England, Spain, etc, financially. Prize money, tv revenue etc will never reach the heights of the big leagues and as such a club no matter how successful in those other leagues will never be able to compete financially. That's why the wages are lower, because there is no chance that his club could afford to pay 100k+ wages to each of his main players, probably not even 50k+. It would make a loss season on season. That means that big clubs will take notice of the players playing far below the wages that 'should' be being offered for a player of their ability and become interested en masse - pressuring both the players and the club into a selling position. In the same way no matter how much you raise the hungarian division's rep or your club rep, the valuations will never catch up to those it becomes on par with, which isn't realistic - as if that fantasy scenario unfolded in real life, all of those elements would increase to a significant degree.

For those who feel the valuations are in line with reality - and above hungarian transfer records - that's the problem, in reality the hungarian league is not a good league, in his game it's likely improved drastically - so it should be treated on par with the leagues around it. The valuations of a club that competes regularly in the champions league, and reaches the knockouts regularly likewise should have player values more closely aligned with similarly successful teams. This just seems common sense to me. I've had the same problem in past editions of FM taking Melgar in Peru to regular Copa Libertadores winners and the best team in south america - or Aalst in Belgium to one of the best teams in the world, CL winners, etc, but the values and financial power of both of these teams never caught up to the top leagues in those continents.

Ultimately the game seems hard coded to remember the league's starting rep rather than dynamically adjusting to realistically represent the changes that can happen in game.

You call this a problem. To me, that's the essence of FM, it's designed to be this way. No matter how much they promote improved league dynamics, there is no version of FM where you end up with the Greek and Turkish leagues dominating Europe. 500 years in the future, nothing really changes. You can fight against it as the user, but there's really only so much you can do because you're fighting against the game itself. I think FM simply doesn't want to create crazy scenarios where the game world changes in a huge way, which to me isn't a problem.

To the OP: It seems you've only made 3 CL appearances. It generally takes about 10 years of steady results for club rep and league rep to improve to where you get "fair" values. After playing 15 seasons in the Danish league, I now have 18 players worth £40m+ and 5 players worth £100m+. I'm paying roughly the wages of a low/midsize PL club (wages have a big effect on value). The league itself has grown to the 4th best in Europe with 4 CL spots, but my team is still the only team listed above 3½ star reputation. You need years of better CL results to improve transfer values, but they do improve, eventually.

It's cheap because it's two generations (three years) old. The graphics are sufficient for FM, but you may need to turn down some of the graphical options. My 2p is that it's not a bad price for what it is.

Yeah, I realize that's also a factor :) In my head I was thinking gen 11 is only 2 years old, but that's of course only true for desktop CPUs, not mobile processors.

    Thanks for the reply.

The laptop I am running now and have been for probably 6/7 years or more has Intel (R) HD Graphics - and runs 2D just fine for what I need it for. I’m guessing this is the older, non graphics card option to what the potential new laptop has - Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics ?

I am more concerned about speed / quality of play than I am having the best  graphics.

My reply was mainly dealing with the question "Is this too good to be true" :) Most people who buy a laptop for gaming will need/want a dedicated GFX card. But you might fall into the niche that doesn't if you only play FM.

Both things you mention are on-board / integrated graphics cards, so yes for you it will be an upgrade to get Iris Xe. Looking at the minimum specs, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to run FM23 on that laptop. As for the processor, i5 gen 11 is 2 years old and we're currently on gen 13. So the most important part of the computer, FM wise, won't be super up-to-date. That would be my biggest worry for speed. But within your budget I don't expect you'll be able to find anything from gen 13, gen 12 could be possible on sale or clearance, but you'd probably have to hunt for it for a while.

    Hi all,

I have been looking for a new laptop for FM23, with a max budget of 550.

I play in 2D, and would like to be able to run games with a good amount of leagues to be able to do journeyman saves (major European leagues plus 1/2 obscure European leagues for smaller clubs).

I’ve looked through all of the suggested specs for fm on the various blogs, and then come across the laptop below for what seems a price that is too good to be true? Am I missing something here and should I avoid this?

If I should avoid it, could anyone make a recommendation for a good laptop in my price range? Thanks. (Based in UK)

It's pretty clear to me that this is cheap because it has no graphics card. Do you need more than the on-board to play FM in 2D? I really don't know.

    B) Also look at the save ratio of my goalie. 7 shots on target, 5 saved.... a 71% save rate is mediocre at best.

    Your opponent's keepers saved 21/34 = 62%.

In FM, more saves = higher ratings, even if you concede a couple. I would not trust save % rate as the best metric to measure a keeper's performance, since not all shots are created equal.

My advice would be to look through all the shots on goal before deciding to switch a keeper, it will usually tell you more than simple stats.

Transfer Centre does not help, but thanks...
I am trying to sign a U21 Foreign player to an EPL team - Bristol City.
Apparently, there is a rule that limits your U21 foreign signings to six per season.
I am being blocked from signing a U21 Brazillian because of this rule, but I can not see where I previously signed the six foreign U21 players.

According to the transfer center (pic above) I only signed three players - one of the above is 23 years old.

Look at the previous year also, since the transfer window starts in early June, and the season rollover is after that. Those players signed early in June still count for the coming year.

NO IT ISN'T hyperbolic.  FM22/23 may have more issues than ever, but to imply that previous games have produced a regular stock of top quality new players is just fanciful.

Games prior to FM 22 did not have these issues. In fact, nearly all previous releases had newgens replace old established players way too fast and it was easy to fully develop players at 19/20 years old. You could buy EPL stars (not potential stars) from Brazil/Argentina on the cheap just a couple of seasons in. FM 22 had a good balance imo, but everyone can agree that FM 23 made it too difficult to bring youngsters through.

Except they have responded to threads like this before stating the opposite and it's backed up by the systems in game. The truth is that because we're such a small part of the player base, there's just no value for them in catering to us.

If they simply wanted the world to be static we wouldn't have newgens, dynamic rep, dynamic youth rating. The AI wouldn't be driven to progress. There would be systems in place to stop the big clubs from relegating and tiny clubs from promoting multiple divisions.

The systems in place for dynamics are just bad.

They should just let us add and remove editor data mid save already. Then they don't have to deal with any of it.

Your first sentence confuses me. It seems like you agree with me? Most people play this game for a couple of seasons with a big club. These are the people getting the most realistic experience. Once you go beyond that, realism breaks down. The same thing can be said of starting at lower level clubs or clubs from smaller leagues.

Newgens are the opposite of what you seem to think. They are indeed there to keep the world realistic (=static), not to evolve it. Dynamic rep is extremely flawed and only really works in top 5 leagues. The new feature dynamic youth rating didn't even work for 6 months after the game launched. It's questionable it makes a difference even now that it *works*. The whole system is set up to keep big clubs from relegating and tiny clubs from promoting. I'm really surprised you can play this game without noticing that. Sure, there's no hardcore rule preventing it, but simming into the future shows that it rarely happens even over the greatest of time scales.

I'm back to my previous point. If SI wanted to make a more dynamic game, they could. You can kinda see tiny changes towards that because hardcore players request it, but it's clearly not a focus for the development of the game. And that's OK, it's their vision for their product.

    Not according to SI.

Definitely according to SI. The aim for any version of football manager is first and foremost to produce a realistic first season. Anything after that is all about keeping things from becoming too unrealistic. The truth that is probably hard to accept, is that only a low % of people play a save for 5+ seasons before starting over. Many play just 1-2 seasons. In total, only 0.2% of people play 30 seasons during a game cycle. You'll find a good number of those people on this forum though, which tends to skew how we think about FM.

I'm not saying you can't change the status quo. I'm saying that the game will naturally work to keep the balance of the current season, be it with clubs, leagues and nations. Even after 50-100 years, left to play out on it's own, leagues will very much look the same, and the power balance between them will also mostly remain. At the 200-1000 year mark the club hierarchy becomes muddled, but there will be some clubs that start out strong which will remain. League-wise the top 5 will remain the same even in the far far distance future. Obviously this is very unlikely to happen.

If you wanted to make a game that tried to predict the future, so many more things would need to be dynamic, and the game itself would have to be dynamic in a much grander scale. SI could do that. But because of the playing habits of the playerbase, they aren't really interested in putting too many resources into that.

the game is rigged for english clubs, not just for TV and sponsors but also for the players value. Ofc top 1 competition should have higher values, but if you get some other league to that spot, their players should increase in value, right? well, not if you ask FM

I think you've misunderstood what this game is. It's not trying to predict the future, or how leagues and nations rise and fall. Instead, you are essentially locked into playing with the world conditions of the 22/23 season over and over. That's the baseline, and fighting against that baseline is mostly futile (but can also be fun).

he's in prison, surely? sentenced to 4 years in spain.

He literally played two days ago in Saudi. Apparently you don't go to jail in Spain until all appeals are exhausted, so that will likely buy him 1-2 more seasons. FM isn't really set up to handle something like this, but considering he has been found guilty of sexual assault in court, SI should probably just remove him from the game entirely.

Yeah, you can’t expand what you don’t own.

You can't, but you can request it and sometimes the council will do it :) Had that happen with Stadio Olimpico in Rome that I did not own.

Edit: The stadium in question is privately owned, so I don't know if that makes a difference compared to a council owned stadium.
