I've done that plenty of times. It's not a hard and fast rule, but I now wouldn't have more than 3, possibly 4, young non-influential players in with one senior highly influential player. Also be careful of older influential players with poor determination/personality as they could bring down players you don't want affected.

As an aside, I've seen people comment that fining players for poor performance can have an impact on boosting determination, which may help things along with your squad profile. I'd probably exercise a bit of caution with that though in case you upset players.
Well I've tried everything again and players in the groups aren't losing determination, in fact a couple have improved it. However, a couple of players that aren't in those groups (first team) are losing determination. All my coaches are top quality with really good personalities as are ALL my players.
Why would professional and determined, world class players be losing determination so rapidly in a determined squad with world class coaches.

The reason I ask is because I've seen similar comments to yours and it turned out some people had been taking an influential goalkeeper (for example) and putting him into groups with players who were not goalkeepers. Which is what we might have done in the old Tutoring system - just take any player with a good personality and use them as a Tutor. But the intention of Mentoring is to keep similar players together in order for them to bond and work together as a unit, which they can't really do if your young forwards are being mentored by an ageing goalkeeper or defender.
I'm not mixing the groups and never have. I've always had gk, def, cm, fw. Always made sure that the most influential player has had higher det stats and a good attitude.
I could possibly have gone wrong by putting too many players in one group, but other than that I'm really not sure. I'll mess around with it a bit more as I've just started a new save.
What sort of eta are we looking at to see any development? I know it takes longer than previous versions.

Perhaps you have done all of this already, however we don't know because all we have to go on so far is "I'm not doing anything, determination is dropping, must be broken", when there is plenty that you can be doing to help prevent such drops

Of course if you have done all of this and you believe it is broken, then the best thing you can do is open a new thread in the bugs forum and upload a copy of your game save for SI to take a look at.

I've experimented with it in many saves and it's always the same outcome. I've read the guide and I'm pretty sure I understand how it's supposed to work.
Out of interest has anybody else seen determination stats rise much? I've only seen threads about it dropping.

I already did but the determination stats kept dropping. I also made sure that the groups were small and top players were the leaders in those groups.

Yep same issue at LFC. No mentoring groups going and only top players yet determination is dropping on quite a few players. I honestly think it's broken.

Great guide.
I'm not using any mentoring groups and in every save I have played (always start at LFC) quite a few players rapidly lose determination for no apparent reason.
Does this mean I'm forced to use mentoring groups? (I've tried experimenting but always the same out come of players losing determination, no matter who is in the group i.e. Salah , Firmino, vvd in different groups)

Have to agree with people about the UI, pointless clicking to do simple things and the scouting being really bad this year. I don't think I need to add anything else as it's all been said already.
Still playing, though I'm not sure for how much longer as the scouting, more than anything else, is just driving me up the wall.
All in all I feel this is the worst release in quite some time and if I could, I would get a refund but I've played too many hours now, which is very annoying as it takes hours to find out what the game is all about.

I'm left with two good first team players. Injuries are between 2 and 7 weeks.
Trouble is now that I can no longer properly rotate with a lot of games coming up.

Training intensity isn't high, not a huge amount of matches played (no more than normal). The tactic is fairly intense but nine injuries to key players is pretty extreme. I'd be interested to know if/when something like this has happened in reality. I'm left with two first team players.

Any issues with injuries been brought up? I've never had such a horrendous injury list in any other FM. I now have Nine key players out.

So the theory of only narrow formations working well on fm10 could be true after all. It's the only times I've ever had success on this version but kudos to you if you can pull out a winger tactic. I'll certainly try it out.

I'm probably being a bit thick here, but I'm completely confused.
What am I supposed to do with the player filters in the OP? In what way do they tell me what stats I need for each position? Wouldn't it just be a whole lot easier if the stats were written down?
@gcs - I use vista32 not win7, but I looked in the documents fm10 folder and there is nothing there about filters.

Ahhh I think I see what this is about then, it's not the best players from the clubs ever, it's their best ever teams right?
Just surprised to see John Wark, voted our all time best player and cult hero, at Liverpool on a legends database, especially as our best ever team, the 1978-1981/82 team, had Wark as one of the best players.
And dking, John Wark was an incredible player. He didn't win PFA player of the year in 1981 for nothing. And he certainly wasn't rated by Sir Bobby for nothing.
He was a good player, but he wasn't a world beater. There are a few players who won the PFA award that aren't world beaters. Gary pallister and les ferdinand also won it. They were good players. Wark was a good player and had a few of good seasons so I think his stats are pretty realistic in game. I think the words 'incredible player' are a little over the top. Pele, maradona, cruyff etc were incredible players but I'm afraid you cant mention Wark in the same breath.
