  1. Firstly, apologies for the terrible pictures, my laptop is soslow and can't run both FM and a browser at the same time so had to use my phone for pics :(

Been dying to recreate Leverkusens style on FM and have spent the last few days working on t as well as watching multiple highlights and tactical analysis videos on youtube. Though I am doing a Southend challenge which makes it harder.

I started off with the 3-4-2-1 shape and it was alright but I couldn't get the attacking right and there were too many 1-0 wins. Leverkusen score goals alongside the great football so 1-0's all the time just insn't great. Now this could just be because of the level of team we are or tactical, I think it's both. For the current season I switched it up a bit after watching a TIFO video and came up with the 2 versions below

    tacv2.thumb.jpg.bbae3d0c4f1ca7583c8d070e3dcb7550.jpgtacv1.thumb.jpg.310135b1eae7367993838163d074506d.jpg

The one on the right I was mainly using for away games at first, though I ended up just using that most of the time later on in the season the season.Still not happy with either, as you can see in the league below, defensively it has been amazing but the attack has suffered a little and we aren't scoring enough. Again I am not sure if this is tactical or just the level of the players.

I do change a few settings depending on opponents occasionally but nothing major

It;s not an exact replica of course with being Southend, but I have tried to get it as close as I can and still win games, so I have had to sacrifice a few roles/settings. Next season in league 1 I will be able to get some better players, hopefully can get closer and score way more goals

  2. In my current save, I think this season is one of very few in my whole fm journey where I have managed to keep every single player happy, normally I don'tcare as long as they play well haha.

Things I have done to manage that is:-(Not all of this is about squad roatition I get, but it all ties in to keep players happy and fresh. When rotating players poorly you can annoy them but if they are already very happy they take being dropped/rested in their stride, so bear with me lol)

Firstly (I had a created club with no players so my route will be different to othes but after the squad building part the rest should apply to yours), with squad building I brought in 2 starting 11's and about 6 players or so on top of that who between them had the attributes to cover multiple areas of the pitch. No need for huge squads if you want to keep them all happy. Luckily for me with having to build a squad from scratch I could get in players on contracts that didn't demand they play every game, though I do have a few that wanted star player status

I set the training intensitys so that the first 2 options were no training/rest, whatever it is(I don't have the game open so I am going by memory lol) and the last 2 as double intensity, low and medium, or whatever it is, inbetween them

I keep an eye on training to make sure every week I get reports saying all players had great sessions. If players get poor training ratings I criticise them and if they get ratings of over 8.5ish I praise them, both improve morale a bt.

If players who haven't played in a while get a high training rating and the next game or 2 are games they canplay in without the team suffering or not a huge game they shouldn't play in, then I give them a start. Same goes for players who get a run in the team, if their performances start dropping, then I will give someone else a chance. In my team you get chances to show your worth to the team or you get replaced.

Unless I really have to, like because of injuries/suspensions/poor form, then I never start players with either 92% or less fitness levels or 90% match sharpness, if both are lower then they get benched or dropped. Though with match sharpness with my often rotating or making them available for the u21s/u18s, it's not usually an issue too much.

With my 2 keepers, neither have a contract that states they are number 1 so it's not too bad but I still roatate them. I have one I consider to be my number 1, just not told him that lol, he starts the majority of games and finals. My "backup" is my cup keeper as well as I play him in league games against some teams I know I can control and limit there shooting.

In team talks, I rarely go too hard on them unless they were so shocking they deserve the boot kicked at them. I often praise players individually in the team talks if they have got over an 8.5. I paise them after games if they get potm etc.Not had it yet but if the press ask anything about them in interviews I would say whatever option would be the "nicest"one lol

I try and make sure every squad memeber has had at least 10 starts and multiple sub appearances by the end of the season. Good for their morale and keeping everyone fresh. This season I haven't really had that many injuries, apart from 1 young player who gets injured more than IRL martial and bailly combined lol, but he will be gone soon.

Off the top of my head that pretty much covers it. To manage squad rotaion correctly after fitness/sharpness levels, keeping players happy is extemely important so they don't start complaining, that's where things can go bad quickly if you get it wrong.

Yeah, this really surprises me too. Obviously Alisson and Ederson aren't viable options, who else is actually good at distribution, I suppose Onana? But I don't think he's on De Gea's level overall sadly.

Does anyone play De Gea as an SK (S)? I feel he's capable of being an SK (D), but probably better left as a standard GK?

Yes I use him as a SK S works totally fine and VDB has been pretty good for me as a BBM in my 4231

  4. I use a 4-2-3-1 that I started using around the 12/13 version(created myself) . Obviously as the tactic creator has changed each year I have adapted it but it still has the same philosophy. It has dominated for me no matter what team I have used it with. I think FM20 I have had the most success with it though, winning every game in every competition for like 3 seasons or something and being unbeaten overall for longer. I am now using it in level 11 of the english league thanks to a league database I found on here and it is dominating there . SO yeah definitely that one.

It seems that in this game you need to tweak something after run of good results, good season. And than AI gets on your level and you need to tweak something.

I was playing with Valencia, first few seasons I was building my team, than had four years of excellence (4  La ligas and one Chammpions league). In every of that seasons I needed to tweak something. Per example, one season played with Pass into space, other with Work ball into box, third wider, etc. Last season couldnt find the "jack pot" (yeah, I had discussion here about tactics and jack pot)...

Am I right about this concept? If I am, in which direction to tweak your tactics? I mean, if you are keen on gegen is it better to tweak something in that direction or maybe go all the way to tiki taka?

I don't think so. On one of my saves I won everything and was unbeaten for almost 4 seasons and I didn't change anything  after the initial creation and testing period. I guess it comes down to the level/quality of your team/players and if you way over perform with them.

If you feel you have to tweak your tactics as teams are handling you differently, you have to watch games and see whats different to the previous season then adapt it. There's no specific way to change it, you just have to see what is not working any more

Go with it, but changing the mentality will destroy the sole "purpose" of the "tactic" (and I mean both purpose and tactic in the loosest sense of the word). Which is to have every single player on an attacking mentality, something that's apparently not possible in the game any other way. Unless you go strikerless or defenderless, that is. Which gives me wild ideas by the way, but I'm not going to hijack this excellent thread any more.

Every player is on very attacking mentality.

And you should start a new thread on this as it would make a good conversation :D

Say goodbye to your unbeaten streak

Please report back how it went.

Haha it's ok, I have doubled saved it under a different name to use solely as a tactic tester as I have an amazing side, so I don't lose the actual save. But yeah I am running a few different tests with different tweak. When I find the one that works I will post it up.

I am holidaying it to save time but I did watch the first game testing it with a couple of added tweaks of my own and they battered West Brom, not difficult with my team but some of the plays were great.

My initial thoughts are it is extremely good in attack but  in defence it's lacking support, which is obvious from the defensive set up. But one of the tweaks is I am using the very attacking mentality rather than balanced haha, in for a penny and all that. But I have got tactics with the three at the back set up like yours, working great before. I reckon I can manage it again haha

Here's the final one. Fullbacks are told to sit narrow. I'm sure that with some more tweaking, it could perform even more admirably. Something I will not be testing further.

Challenge accepted :D I'll give it a go with my United team that has been unbeaten in 4 years or something stupid like that

You said you use a lot of role switching, so who do you have switching with who? And what has been the most successful?

Depends which tactic you're talking about.

In one I have the ST and CM switching, FBs switching with the wingers and Libero with the other cm

Another I have one of the widemen switching with the striker.

And many others. I always have players swicthing in almost every tactic, usually works great, seen lots of space openining up. I am sure the AI has marked my wingers specifically, in some games,  as when my wingers and FBs swap, the FBs have so much space as the opposition fbs have followed my wingers :D

Pogba is on his way out now PSG are after him.

I could use Bruno has it looks Hannibal is now ready for a first team place and take over in midfield.

Although in the couple of games vs Liverpool Garner did very well as the Libero.

Mejbri is ready for the first team right from the start :D

Yeha Garner is good as well

@crusadertsar tried the latest download for a few end of season games, namely Liverpool twice and Lazio in a final. Build up play was great to see and scored some beauties. (even with my Man Utd first season squad).

If you had to do a best 11 of each position what would it be. I hear you mention Zaniolo for SS and I am currently trying to do a deal for him.
Also i hear people mention Savic has the Libero.

    Great work.

If youre United, Bruno is awesome as the Libero, Pogba does ok but needs time.

Nice watch! Yeah, I watched them against my Arsenal this season in the FA Cup, and in the 1st half they were truly excellent, completely playing Arsenal off the park. It was pissing me off, obviously, but also great to watch. 2nd half Arsenal took over and won the match with Arteta throwing water bottles at half time and the player quality difference starting to shine, but assuming and hoping they're in the Prem next year, they're going to  be a ton of fun to watch and will surprise a lot of teams and dominate them.

Btw about the role switching, with which have you had the most success with?

What do you mean with which?

I'm going for a looser interpretation. Trying to capture the fact that United played Strikerless without a real frontman. The front three's movement and position swapping captured my imagination. There was more than a hint of Total Football about how Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo played.

Also it was more about the players available to Ferguson. It's hard to recapture with any team at start of FM20. But a few years into my save I have a likely candidate. The weirdness that happens in FM sometimes when save goes on for a few years.

This is what I am working with at the moment, but it's still a work in progress. Front 3 are set to roam and Rooney to swap with Tevez

I have been working on recreating the style of United during those times, one of the many real life tactical recreations I have been working on, and with this legends database I have that front 3  to play with :D

This is a video worth watching
