  1. Of course, play the game how you enjoy it. I enjoy a good journeyman save myself. However, applying for jobs that aren't real possibilities is probably more detrimental than hopeful for that very reason. In my experience, give it at least a year if not two at a job to establish yourself and grow your reputation.
  2. I've been struggling with similar formations and tactics. Given the Balanced mentality and the bulk of players naturally deeper, Low Block may be too deep? I've suffered defensively every time I've tried Low Block. (I'll be watching this thread for more help!)
  3. Agreed with the GFF instruction. Also, consider his contribution in other ways, besides goals & assists.
  4. Think of the squad planner as the manager's private notebook, a simple management tool, in which he or she plans the depth chart for each position this season and in coming seasons. The player's agreed playing time is what you seem to be referring to. This playing time promise is agreed upon when you sign a player's contract, but can also be changed in the player's profile. Agreed playing times include "impact sub", "fringe player", "squad player", "regular starter", et cetera. This is what the player (and their agent and your staff) understands the player's promised place in the team to be.
  5. Just to confirm, when you’ve turned off HEC and CMO, have you also done anything to limit passing directness? I find that none of these TI/PI work as well if I’m using short(er) passing for the team or players. Dial passing directness up a notch might help?
  6. If it's helpful, I've tried this with all 3 game modes and none yielded fake players. I have not added or removed any DB files. (Version 24.1.1)
  7. I’ve had this experience in FM24, too, and it’s been reported in the Bugs forum.
  8. Also have the same issue. Tried several times with care, but same result.
  9. I often do fake names and have never noticed anything like what Dave was asking. I’d assume the software looks at the all the dozens of bits of standard data of a player, but doesn’t have any type of “supplemental” information tied to a real person by a given name. SI could confirm. Even with fake player names, or newgens for that matter, the AI in previous versions tended to overvalue older players… perhaps it overvalued player reputation? Some of the AI roster building changes touted for FM24 might help that.
  10. My dream is that someday, FM offers second screen capability and I can have the squad planner open for reference while I'm scouting for players, playing games, managing my roster, arranging transfers/loans, et cetera.
  11. I agree, it's important to tie the planner to the tactics screen, however in FM23 it's very clunky and not user-friendly. Crossing my fingers the FM24 squad planner is designed to more elegantly integrate into the tactics screen (all 3 tactics), as well as the in-game roster / substitutions screen. I find myself having to tediously click back and forth, back and forth, between tactics or in-game to see what I spent time laying out in the squad planner.
  12. Yes, it's a real thing. ‘Believe in the process’ – the set-piece specialists transforming football - The Athletic The rise of set piece coaches in football | Soccer | The Guardian Why set-piece coaches are sweeping the Premier League, from Tottenham's Gianni Vio to Arsenal's Nicolas Jover (inews.co.uk) Throw-ins, ballstriking, neuroscience: How coaching evolves - ESPN
  13. Agreed. Engaging with players has been an unpredictable endeavor for awhile, fraught with disaster, and worth avoiding in a lot of cases. Tempering responses effectively may reintroduce this "role playing" element of the manager experience.
  14. Give yourself the same name, manager ratings, experience level, and photo... and play as if you're him/her?
  15. In my saves, I like to move from country to country, but when I relocate, the currency doesn't change to my new country. Playing with Euros in Brazil, or US Dollars in Scotland just doesn't feel immersive. I know you can manually change currency in the software's preferences, but I believe that changes it universally throughout all saves in my Football Manager. I'd like to suggest an option that when selected, will automatically change the currency in a save to the “local” currency (as in, the country in which one is managing).
  16. "As manager, you should get to use your wages to upgrade the condiments" in 5... 4... 3...
  17. Is there a list of which clubs are considered "top clubs" when you use this "add players from top clubs" database setting?
  18. Simple as that, eh? I won’t get job offers nor be able to apply for jobs outside of my selection, even if leagues are loaded as fully ‘playable’. Thank you!
  19. What does the "Coachable Teams" setting control in a save game? How or when would one use this? This is found under FM > Game Status.
  20. Wow, I had been looking at this all wrong. Sounds like calling it a "low" or "minimal" relationship, or something similar, would be a better description to use in the game.
  21. I haven’t played MLS in a few versions of FM, but that best set up is one I’ve always tried to get right. Here’s a couple online resources about where international MLS players come *from* and where American players move to/sold to. Maybe it’s food for thought: https://fbref.com/en/comps/22/nations/Major-League-Soccer-Nationalities https://us.soccerway.com/players/players_abroad/ Definitely lots of Americans in the higher levels of ENG, but also GER, ITA, and BEL, and others. I’d definitely load MEX and CAN, too, of course. I will be watching this thread and would love to find a great balanced setup for next time I enjoy a MLS save.
