To get a precise answer, you'd have to get the code of this function. I imagine it would be a lot of X's and Y's put together for a number to come up that represents a coaching skill.

Part of me is curious to see, but another part of me wouldn't due to it ruining the immersion.

Yes, that's what I meant by the last bit. Given that there are plenty of tools that can pull data out of fm, you'd just have to pull out coach ca pa, player ca pa, reputation, maybe time before first job and maybe coaching badge. Control for the last 3, look for correlation in the first four.

  2. Despite having played far too much FM over the last 10 years, I can't think of a time where one of my former players has become a really good coach. I've read suggestions that the coaching ca and pa of retired players is totally random, but I somewhat doubt that. While there is undoubtedly a cognitative bias involved as I am less likely to remember an unknown serie c player who goes on to become a top manager in game compared to a former world class player, I am almost certain that the latter are considerably more likely to become top coaches, simply because it would be extremely rare to see a top player as a head coach given that they make up a very small proportion of the database. I am pretty sure that reputation does carry over, which would cause former top players to be overrepresented, but I'm wondering if there is anything else.

Any thoughts or experiences regarding this would be appreciated. If someone from the dev team wants to and is allowed to chip in that would be great as well :). I'm assuming it wouldn't actually be that hard to run an experiment for someone with better coding skills and more time than myself, so if anyone has done that their input would be much appreciated.

  3. I'd like to create a system similar to the Spanish system, with groups(in my case geographical) containing youth teams from clubs as well as youth only teams. I've created the youth clubs and put them into child competitions with u21 division type and a parent division, but my attempt to activate it as a reserve competition in advanced rules has been unsuccessful. I have tried to reverse engineer from Spanish league rules but they use a "custom XML". Relatively experienced but somewhat dusty editor user. Thanks all for any help.

  4. I'm currently holidaying in fm24 to see how it works now with the much more sophisticated nationality system, but in fm22 lots of players were reluctant to renounce their original nationality and take up Chinese citizenship. It seems somewhat stupid as irl footballers seem to be happy to do that, e.g jordi amat giving up developed EU country Spanish citizenship and taking up indonesian citizenship, allowing him to play for that national team and johor dt as a asian/sea player

  5. Just got fm24 and was wondering if anyone knew how to implement the Ukrainian/Russian systems for gaining nationality used in FM. I am aware that I could in theory repurpose one of those countries but I'd rather have a quicker and more elegant solution.

Specially, I would like players who would be eligible for the national team to take up citizenship and for those who are already capped to not do so. Failing that, is there some way to set a league's foreign player rules to set only those who are eligible for the national team to be treated as domestic players, e.g Roman Eremenko being treated as a foreign player in Russia despite being a citizen due to playing for Finland.

  6. As a side effect of a merged Singapore Malaysia league I have made, it would appear that this year the Singapore league considers all players not from the club's based nation as foreign players, whereas previously this was just hard coded to Brunei DPMM.

This is not firmly true; I'm away from my computer right now but in my database, clubs playing in Malaysia but based in Singapore with B teams in Singapore have o21 Singaporean players as foreign. I don't know how B teams affect this as players in the b team are still based in Singapore, but Singaporean players are foreign!

Regardless, does anyone know if now players from countries outside of a teams based nation ( including the nation where the league is based)  are set to foreign is something I can set myself in the editor? This seems like a really interesting opportunity for a nation building database(maybe with friends!)

  7. This isn't the first fm game I have had this issue in (definatley 20 and maybe 19?) But after creating a new League system(Singapore and Malaysia merged in Malaysia, Singaporean teams with B teams in the vanilla Singapore premier League), while the rules will verify, I cannot convert to advanced rules and when I try to create a new save, Malaysia can't be loaded in as there are not enough teams in the old leagues(e.g Malaysia super League required X teams, only had 0). Because this error has been in previous games, I'm assuming it's known and there is an easy fix?

  8. Don't think this topic has been created yet, so just trying to start a discussion on what this years pre game editor will be like. I don't remember where i heard but i recall si saying they were progressively trying to decrease hard coding and make more stuff changeable with the editor. Question for anyone at SI: Will we be able to do MLS style rules in the editor this year? What about adding in naturalisation only for uncapped players?(currently hard coded for Russia and Ukraine)
