  1. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur - Season 7

    spacer.png

September needed to be a busy month in the league with 7 games for us left to catch up on. Our performances dropped compared to earlier in the season partly as a result of me giving some game time to the youth intake. Damian Drewnoski became our youngest ever goalscorer in the penultimate game against IA.

    spacer.png

We've made it through the whole season unbeaten - invincibles!

  2. Youth Intake

Some reasonable prospects in amongst this years intake, albeit not as great as I'd hoped from given the early season indications.

Gunnarsson at left back and Drewnowski in midfield will be given early game time at the back end of this season given our position in the league to help them to develop. It's good to see that we also have some better personalities coming through this year. Drewnoski is also the second decent prospect to come through our ranks with Polish as a second nationality, it would be interesting to know what is driving that as I have no Polish staff or affiliate links that I'm aware of?

  3. European Champions League Champions Path - Playoff

    spacer.png

    Tuesday 17th August, 2027 & Wednesday 25th August, 2027

    FC Basel v Throttur R.

After the biggest game in our club's history in the cup final, we immediately faced the next biggest games in the clubs history with a 2 legged fixture against Swiss champions FC Basel for a place in the Champions League group stage. No Icelandic side had ever been to this level of the competition before and we were on the verge of making history for Icelandic football.

FC Basel are significantly better than us though with a pedigree of regular visits to the group stage along with some shock results against Europe's biggest sides.

The first leg went exactly in line with the pre-match expectations as FC Basel comfortably played around our low block. In hindsight however the scoreline could have been much worse. The game started terribly as Kristian Webster has harshly judged to have fouled Hamza Rafia in the box in the 3rd minute. Thankfully Mouhamadou Sarr pulled off a worldclass save to keep it to 0-0. The eventually took the lead in the 20th minute and when they went 2-0 up a minute after Uddstrom had been sent off for a second bookable offence in the 55th minute I was really worried that the floodgates would open. Thankfully we bought all 10 men behind the ball and managed to frustrate them to keep the score to 2-0.

I didn't have any expectations that we were still in the match, but at least it wasn't a cricket score.

I honestly don't know what happened in the second leg, FC Basel just didn't turn up to the game and my players were immense in one of our most dominant performances of the season. Cooper on the right and Mumbongo on the left were both magnificent, whilst Hardarson in particular at the back disrupted every attacking move that Basel tried to put together.

All 3 goals were similar.... in the 13th minute Saraiva lofted an innocuous cross over to the left hand side of the box whilst the Basel right back went completely missing allowing Mumbongo to rise and place the ball across the diving FC Basel keeper. That gave us hope and in the 33rd minute Cooper picked up a counter attacking move on the right and got free to cross to the left where once again Mumbongo was left free to head into their goal.

As we were approaching full time and the possibility of extra time, it was a reversal of the first two goals. This time it was Saarikivi who was allowed to swivel, turn and cross a lofted ball from deep and Robertsson, bought on for Cooper rose highest and headed the ball past the keeper and his near post.

This was really beyond our wildest dreams - we're in the Champions League group stages!

  4. Bikarkeppni karla Final

    Saturday 14th August, 2027

    Laugardalsvollur, Reykjavik

    Breidablik v Throttur R.

After the disappointment of last season's defeat in the final against Stjarnan I was determined not to make the same mistakes again - team selection was a key factor and I made sure that a number of players who had bottled it in the final last season were left out of both the first eleven and the substitutes. Meanwhile players like Nilo Saarikivi and Axel Uddstron, who based on attributes alone aren't the best in the squad were picked on the basis of performances in the big games.

All of this paid off to great effect as we completely outplayed Breidablik. 17 year old centre back Agust Hardarson opened the scoring with a bullet header from Uddstrom's corner in the 34th minute and Saarakivi then set up Mumbongo to put us 2-0 up just 2 minutes later. Johann Meyer should have sewn up the game just before half time but his penalty was saved.

There was no real risk of a fight back from Breidablik in the second half. Saarikivi was once again the provider in the 58th minute for Vaerio Crespi to score the 3rd goal before Uddstrom and Hardarson combined once again for our 4th in a carbon copy of the 1st.

  5. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur - Season 7

    spacer.png

A quiet month for us in the league with only 3 games played as both cup and European competition gets in the way and disrupts our schedule. Our defence continued to be impenetrable as we picked up another 3 clean sheets, but Grindavik at least put up a challenge and managed to shut us out, becoming only the second team to take points from us this season.

    spacer.png

6 points clear and 2 games in hand to our nearest rivals - the title is effectively ours.

    spacer.png

In the cup competition we breezed past First Division side FH without any difficulty and will be facing the Breidablik in the final.

    spacer.png

In the Champions league qualifiers we won a narrow game at home against Steaua Bucharest, but in the second away leg they levelled the tie and despite having a player sent off for a 2nd yellow card in the 58th minute took us to extra time. I brought on Cameron Cooper in the 90th minute and his fresh legs against a tired FCSB defence was enough to send us through the Playoff round - win and we'll be the first Icelandic team to ever play in the Champions League group stage, lose and we'll be in the Europa League. We have a very tough draw against FC Basel though, so the Europa League it shall be!!

  6. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur - Season 7

    spacer.png

In the league we came close to a shock result as Mouhammed Sarr actually conceeded a goal - two in fact! We had quickly moved into a 2-0 lead against bottom of the table Keflavik, but they fought back to 2-2 and it had looked as though we were heading for a draw until Webster scored the winner in the 88th minute.

Normal service was then resumed as we won the next 5 games to nil.

    spacer.png

We have clear air at the top of the league - although Breidablik are doing a good job of at least keeping within touching distance should we falter.

    spacer.png

We're still fighting in the Bikarkeppni karla and have progressed to the semi-finals where we are drawn against a First Division side

    spacer.png

We've made it into the Champions League 3rd qualifying round for the first time. The first round draw was quite favourable, pittins us against the Estonian team Flora Talinn, but the second tie was much tougher against Norwegians Bodo/Glimt. We did brilliantly to stay in the tie in the tie following the away leg securing a 2-2 draw and after taking an early 10 minute lead in the home leg held on for a nervy 80 minutes to progress.

    spacer.png

Next up we face the Romanian champions FCSB (Steaua Bucharest)

  7. It was fairly inevitable that bigger clubs would be coming in for some of my star players and Serie A side Cagliari met the minimum release clause for Saeversson.

    spacer.png

I've also agreed a deal for Palmar Robertsson to leave for £450k - importantly though given that the deal is for just under his minimum release clause I was able to negotiate a 50% sell on clause and delay his departure until the end of the season - which actually means he won't be leaving for another 11 months.

Coming inbound I've secured a loan deal for Cameron Cooper from Rangers, who is arguably even better than Robertsson, I've also secured the permanent signing of Johan Meyer who has been on loan with us for a couple of seasons on a free transfer.

  8. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur - Season 7

    spacer.png

The league started off with a disappointing draw away to HK. We took an early lead and should have gone on to dominate the game, but were caught out on the counter. It didn't impact us too heavily though as we continued our form from last season to go on a run of straight wins with no goals conceeded.

We also had a tough draw in the 3rd round of the cup against the team that beat us in the final last season. It was both frustrating and hugely satisfying to demolish them in a 5-0 victory.

    spacer.png

We're not top of the league table yet, but it shouldn't be long once we catch up on games played.

    spacer.png

  9. spacer.png

Quietish transfer window for us, with more outgoings than incomings as a number of youth players who aren't going to make the grade allowed to leave with a number of others given time to develop away on loan.

Coming in we have Kristian Webster re-joining on loan from our affiliate Rangers. He had a successful spell with us last season and I'm delighted to get him back on the books.

Agust Hardarson is a really exciting central defensive prospect. He is only 17 years old of age but has already been capped by the Iceland U-21 side several times and it won't be long before he makes it into the senior side. He is immense.

    spacer.png

Snorri Pall Janusson is another exciting young Icenlandic star at right back, but will have to wait for his senior debut as I've agreed to loan him immediately back to FH.

    spacer.png

Fannar Hardasson and Stefan Hoskuldsson join as back-up's in midfield. I will be amazed if I can hang on to my first choice midfielders of Jon Axellson and Baldvin Saeversson this season as they are attracting interest from Europe, so I want to have my back-up's ready.

  10. Deidablikar

    Monday 26th April 2027

    Laugardalsvollur, Reykjavik

    Stjarnan v. Throttur R.

The equivalent of the community shield pitted us up against the team who beat is in the Bikarkeppni karla final last season.

This time we would end up the stronger team - it was a tight game with limited chances, but once Robertsson had nodded down a lofted Saarakivi cross for Rangers' loanee Kamil Sluga to stick away in the 26th minute we were relatively comfortable.

Very early days, but we remain on track for a quadruple this season.

  11. Icelandic League Cup Final

    spacer.png

    Sunday 4th April 2027

    Stjornuvollur, Gardabaer

    Throttur R. v KA

The final ended up being a walk in the park following a masterclass of wide play from the wings.

Robertsson picked up 3 assists and was clearly the man of the match whilst Saarakivi helped himself to 2 goals as he carved the KA defence open. 2 goals either side of half time always help as it destroys a team confidence and forces all of the managers plans at half time to be thrown out of the window.

They did manage to pull one goal back and Sarr will be disappointed to have been beaten and miss out on the clean sheet - but the game had already been won by that point and we lifted the trophy for the 2nd time in 3 years.

  12. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur - Season 7

    spacer.png

The new season kicked off as normal with the League Cup campaign, although this time around it was scheduled around the Europa Conference League 1st and 2nd knockout rounds - so squad rotation came into play again, luckily my squad is now more than big enough to cope with this challenge though, especially against the calibre of teams I'd be facing the group stage.

    spacer.png

The group stage was reasonably straight forward with early wins on the board an no goals conceeded. However with Keflavik also on fine form, our visit to them in game week 4 became a must win to take top spot.

We performed well and took an early 2 goal lead which settled the nerves and whilst they fought back Adigo's 89th minute goal sealed the win. The draw at Thor was disappointing, but we already knew that we only needed the point to progress.

The semi-final at 1st division side FH was tighter than it needed to be - again we took a 2-0 lead, but it was a nervy finish after they pulled one back.

We held on though and are back into the final for the 3rd time in 3 years and will hope to re-gain the title after losing out in the final last year.

  13. I panicked for a moment when our name wasn't pulled out of the hat for the 1st knockout round of the Conference League - before realising that our first place finish in the group stage had secured a bye to the second knockout round.

There wasn't much prospect of an easy game at this level and the draw gave us a tough tie against French Ligue 1 side Rennes

    spacer.png

In the first leg in France we were completely outplayed in the first half and went into the break 3-0 down. The players responded magnificently in the second half however and Crespi scored to keep us in the tie. We came very close to scoring a second in the dying minutes which would have made the return tie really tasty.

In the second leg we played really well and deservedly won the leg, however despite having taken the lead early we weren't able to pick up the necessary second goal - our adventure was over!

    spacer.png

Over both legs Rennes had been the better side, but it was tighter than I'd expected and much closer than I had feared after the first 45 minutes. I was very proud of the players.
