Needs update for fm23 then a sticky.

I have a view that shows a player and the opponent's XG.
Some numbers are negative a few are positive. I am assuming that the negative numbers are better than the positive numbers, is that right?
Another thing I have two players one that has Opponent XG of 2+ and another has Opponent XG of 0.99. These two are the only two that have positive Opponent XG on my team everyone else is negative.
Why would these two players be outliers? What could I look at to show me why?

I have 2 players with a lot of minutes that have an opponent XG of positive 2+. This is an outlier since most of my team has negative opponent XG.
Am I correct that the positive Opponent XG is bad? What are the possible reasons these players have such a crazy Stat? My next nearest to these two are a guy with 0.99. Everyone else has negative numbers.

American. Started my Football and Football Manager journey together in 2014. Learned Football and Football Manager with 2015. Played the heck out of 2020 and 2021, only played 400-500 hrs of 2022.
When FM 23 was announced I looked at the new features and thought...."ehh." It didn't excite me. I didn't see anything I thought was new. It was the first time I had been disappointed in a new release of FM.
So, I bought FM 23, by now it is a tradition like Christmas or any other holiday, but I didn't play the game. I set it aside.
Well, watching some FA Cup (through ESPN here in America) and watching the World Cup made me load it up.
I was wrong about FM 23.
1- New Stats. The new stats aren't much, but there are a lot of new stats to look at and they actually help you see what is going on with your team.
2-Scouting. OMG. It is so awesome now. My Inbox doesn't get spammed by useless crap. I don't have to micro-manage, but it I want to I can. I actually feel like a manager going to his scouting team and saying..."Hey, what can we get in the area of ...."
3- The Match Engine.
Okay. I admit it. I like many when FM 23 came out was thinking we need near FIFA level graphics (never played FIFA, never will). I do still think some graphical improvements in that area would be nice. However, I see the changes they have made.
Okay, I was wrong. The players move like players, they play like players. Before I was thought..."well this is a video games impression of what it looks like." Not know. The players move in realistic ways.
As a Lower League Management player I also have to say that, as I watch the game, I feel like I am watching a lower league game. Players don't make the smooth runs, they don't connect as often, they hit the ball wrong.
Well Done SI.

Thank you for the explanation.
Since he is a starter will he be able to reapply later?

Up to date FM 23, no updates needed.
I am Notts Co. in Vanarama National League.
The game starts with CM Ruben Rodrigues on the team. He is not a transfer, at least not one the player does or has control of. He is from Portugal.
I got an email saying his work permit had been denied. I appealed it. The appeal was denied.
But he can still play in league games.
Is this a bug or is there something I do not understand about work permits. (I am not from UK).

thanks for all the thoughts

Got an idea for a Tactic and want to see what people think.
AF
IW IW
Mez DLP
WB WB
CD CD CD
It kind of appears attacking heavy to me. Not sure of the roles. I think it is going to be GEN PRESS because my team has GREAT work rate and decent stamina. I have mediocre passing so I am looking for a secondary tactic that won't be as intensive as GEN PRESS, but with mediocre passing my normal ball control won't do as well.
poke your holes.

How is this topic not pinned?

So, I am in the Lower Leagues.
I have a good STC, not great, that is the Team Captain AND my Dynamics says he is a team leader. He makes about x2 as much as any other player I have.
His Contract expires and I am wondering if it might not be better to try and sell him in the January transfer window as I will not be able to resign him, nor do I really want to.
What are the best approaches I can take without destroying the great morale my team has?

In 2023 St. Louis will start playing in the MLS.
How do I setup and play the game so that I am the Manager of St. Louis when they start play in 2023

For me, what is really needed is an in depth study of each position-role-duty with examples of movement on pitch in defense-transition-attack.
My thought is that with this a person could see how they each work together to make a tactic.

In my second season in charge of Bristol City I brought in Scott Robertson as a Center-Mid. He led my team as I demolished the Championship and got promoted to the Premier League.
I played his a a BBM or a DLP. He played great had 12 assist with a 7.15 rating. He has 11 in Tackling, 11 in Aggression and the only trait that might matter is that he has Winds Up Opponents.
In the Premier League I played him in the same roles BBM and DLP. Iin the 4th game of the season, he does a bad tackle, gets a red card, and is suspended an extra two matches. He plays in the 9th game of the season does great and scores a goal. But then, in the 10th game of the season he does another bad tackle, gets suspended for another extra two games.
In the Championship I did play with Get Stuck In on, but I have not used it in the Premier League.
Why did my player go nuts?
PS:
After the second game I demoted him to the U23 and transfer listed him.0 -
So, I admit I really like IF and IW in the Attacking midfield spots. But I wanted to ask what people's thoughts were on a certain situation.
I have a team with very poor heading, at least in the attack, that is about the worst in the league. As such I continously make sure I am on "Low Crosses" or "Whipped Croses" as a team instruction. I have a couple of players that could be played as Wingers, that is my assistants preffered role, but I usually play them as IW. Is there a used to playing a player as a Winger when I have to have low or whipped crosses.
As a lot of teams sit deep and crowd the box against me I do often play with overlap and my fullbacks send balls into the box. Isn't that the same thing as having a Winger playing? Wouldn't the effect of having a Winger in the spot nullify the overlap on that side?

Ignore.
I did not have realistic transfers checked.
It works fine.

In 2014 this American, when it came to football, was your average middle aged American. I had played a couple of games when I was 12 and only ever watched or paid attention to anything football when the US was in the World Cup. I couldn't tell one tactic from another and had no idea of what positions on the field were or what team was what. To me it was soccer and American Football was my sport of choice.
Then, in 2014, I wanted a good sports simulation game (I have always been far more interested in using my brain then my hand-eye coordination). I had heard about Championship Manager-Football manager, but always left it alone since I knew so little about the sport. In 2014 I decided to give it a go and bought the game. I played for around 50 hours, was completely lost, and turned it off. In 2015 I picked it back up and dedicated myself to learning the game. My 2015 has over 500 hours. I have bought the game every year ever since and will continue to do so.
My 2021 game has over 1000 hours and I play little else. (How can I play some other game when that STC is about ready to transfer in leading my to promotion?) I am actually a dedicated Premier League watcher now, still looking for a team to call my own, and have even started watching my local MLS team (Sporting Kansas City). I find that after years of being a dedicated American Football fan I refer it it as American Football and the sport I have learned to love as Football. In fact, I prefer Football to American Football now.
This weekend I was in heaven watching the first games of the Premier League. I would have not understood it, I would have missed it, if not for Sports Interactive and Football Manager.
Thank you for introducing me to the best sport in the world.
A fan for life.21 -
Go to your TEAM REPORT>ANALYST REPORT>COMPARISON
Once there I suggest you select specific units and specific attributes to look at specific attributes. For example if you want to know what a good striker would have select Attack and Strikers only. This will limit you to just a few attributes: Fin, Lon, Hea, Jum, Ant, Off, Pac, and Acc.
This not only allows you to view how your team stacks against the rest of the league you are in, but if you click or hover your mouse over a bar you can find you league average.
Example: In my MLS save when I do this I find Finishing average is 12.16. So I know that a STC with 12 Finishing is pretty average, for a STC that is.

As someone who had to use FM to learn Football I was lost until I started reading threads and guides.
I will also recommend looking at YouTube and all the tactics you can download. I DO NOT recommend downloading the tactics, but you can see how other people put together successful tactics.
One last thing. Be careful not to over analyze. You can have a tactic that hasn't lost a game in 30 matches, put it on the forums and it will get picked apart.
As Bruce Lee said, "Obey the principles without being bound by them."

Using my current tactic I get a lot of shots blocked. I believe it is a result of my narrow possession based tactic that sees a lot of teams sitting deep and just crowding the box.
Would, "Hit Early Crosses" help stop this? What other methods can I use to take get away from so many blocked shots?

As someone else pointed out your STC is sitting up top by himself with no one there to help him. I am not shocked that you are having problems scoring goals.
1) With Genpres you should probably be on Positive Mentality. If you are recently promoted it might not be the best tactic for you to use as it requires you to be a very good team in relation to you opposition.
2) I would take one of your CM and put them on some form of Attack duty so you have a runner into the box to aid your STC.
3) I would put your one of you AM on Attack.
4) I would put one of your FB on Attack.
5) Given that you are newly promoted I would not use Genpress. It requires good players in relation to the opposition.
All that being said remember....the best tactic, the most correct tactic.....is the one that works.

I uploaded a file named skc-s3.
I do not know if it is a bug or just me trying for to big teams, but I always either get that the interview process is over or I did not make the short list because I have not promoted a club.
Hope this helps.

As FM21 is winding down I decided to give the MLS a try.
- First season I won the MLS Cup, finished, 3rd in the supporters shield, lost in the US Cup final.
- Second season I won the Supporters Shield (Finished top of the table), lost in the semi-finals of the MLS Cup, lost in the semi-finals of the Concacaf Champions League and won the US Cup.
- Currently midway through my 3rd season and am heading for another top of the table finish.
Every time I go to an interview the club comes back and says that I didn't make the shortlist because I have no experience getting a team promoted,
There is no promotion/relegation in the MLS

It will be the same, but it is very unlikely to happen, as personality and hidden attributes develop over time as well as attributes.
so if you actually find a young player who is already settled on his consistency and such with already high attributes. Yep, he might be as good as a 30y old. :-)
This is what I thought and understood just wanted to verify.

Help! My Data Hub only shows data for Goalkeepers and Defenders.
in Football Manager General Discussion
Posted
My Data Hub shows all the visuals for the Team performance.
When I go to the Player tab it shows Goal Keepers and Defenders, but not Midfielders or Forwards. No visualizations are offered. I can edit, but it only shows Goal Keeper and Defender graphs.
