Trying to set this up on FM23 and Newgan Manager only allows me to select Desktop when choosing the image directory. Any ideas?

hi Guys
Looking for new laptop and saw this one at £679.99
Brand Acer Series Aspire 5 A515-56 Screen size 15.6 Inches Colour Silver CPU model Intel Core i5-1135G7 RAM memory installed size 8 GB Operating System Windows 11 Graphics card description Integrated CPU speed 4.2 GHz Hard disk description SSD 1TB
To me it looks pretty good and would run plenty of leagues and at a fast pass.
Do you guys agree?
I ordered the below last night for the same price (with a £20 discount through my work) - it's the same size but has 16GB RAM and a newer processor. Hard drive is only half the size so that may be an issue depending what you intend to use it for.
It's a good time to buy at the moment with Black Friday deals.

I've found a club with foreign newgens that I haven't seen mentioned before - Arronches Benfica in the Portuguese 4th tier, going on their grey players they get newgens from Guinea-Bissau (with Portuguese as their second nationality). Could be a good save for someone after an unusual club.

I posted in here a while ago but didn’t buy a new laptop in the end. A lot I’m finding have Intel Iris Xe, how does that compare to other graphics cards? If FM has much better graphics in the next few years how is it likely to cope? I guess the question is how does Intel Iris cope with more graphic intensive games than FM?

Just to confirm regarding ShopTo.net who are often the regular and cheapest provider for many of us...
I contacted them direct to clarify if a game code will be provided digitally as has been the norm for the past few years. However, they clarified their FM23 sales will be sold as a physical pack sent in the post (as most feared).
Shame, as many die-hard FM fans desire the game code the moment the beta goes live. Although it may only be a few quid, it feels like those most loyal fans are being punished this year, at a time when finances are so tight!
Can SI provide an explanation to why the traditionally cheapiest retailer of the game is being restricted to a physical copy of the game/code in the post? Surely this isn't their own preference?
Am I missing something? The link below says:
“Digital download - no game disc included or required”

Good list. I've found a couple of newly playable clubs that could be interesting.
Paris 13 Atletico, now in the French 3rd tier. The challenge obviously being to overtake PSG.

First Vienna, Austria's oldest club and former champions promoted to the 2nd tier.

To add to the above:
Young Boys Football Development - sound ideal for a youth challenge!

FK Radnički Beograd
A Belgrade club promoted to the Serbian 2nd tier.

Just so I don't lose track of any ideas for #FM23
1. Bordeaux have been relegated to the 3rd Tier of French football due to financial irregularities.
2. Ukraine. Something just to educate myself on the geography and history if Ukrainian football due to current circumstances.
3. Hungary. The National Team have beaten ENG twice. How far can they be taken.
4. A.S.D. Sangiuliano City Nova Football Club, (from Milan), have been promoted to playable Serie C in Italy.
5. Recreativo finished as high as 8th in La Liga in 2006/07 but are now back in the 4th Tier in Spain after being promoted.
6. A team newly promoted into the National North/South League in England. (Worthing, Buxton, Banbury, Taunton, Peterborough Sports, Scarborough & Farnborough).
7. A non-playable team from the league below National North/South. (I'm specifically thinking about AFC Rushden & Diamonds).
8. SV TÜRKGÜCÜ MÜNCHEN in German 3rd Tier, (although they have just been relegated to the 4th Tier and I don't know if they are playable and if they get Turkish Newgens.
9. Regensburg in Germany. They are in the 2nd Tier though so is that too easy?
10. I wonder if there are any Ukrainian football clubs in Crimea that now have to play in the Russian league? Would love to stick it up the Russians with them.
11. Can I win the Serbian title with someone other than Partizan and Red Star?
12. South American Journeyman. How many trophies can you win?
13. SC Schiltigheim play in the French Tier. (FCSR HAGUENAU could also be used for the same reason). They have a German name because that area used to be German and was subsequently returned to France but the name stuck. They get French Newgens, (I think), but what if we only signed Germans, (other than the Youth Intake)?
14. Las Palmas is just West of the Sahara desert, but despite that play in the 2nd Tier in Spain. How far could you take them with just Academy products & African signings?
15. FC Vaduz. Liechtenstein in Switzerland. I've never done it. I've got to at some point haven't I?
16. Welsh clubs in England. Can only manage Welsh clubs.
17. SC Bastia have been demoted to the 5th tier in Italy because of financial skulduggery. They are a Corsican team, (like AC Ajaccio), and if you holiday long enough they should promote themselves to a playable league because of their high reputation.
18. Asian Journeyman. How many trophies can you win?
Any other suggestions?

For the budget and specifications, have you considered a Dell G15?
In the Dell Outlet, currently has a 12% off code available, meets all your specifications and with the code comes in at £718.08 - cheaper than your other options. Matches the specs of the Dell Inspiron but is a dedicated gaming laptop and cheaper.
On 17/04/2022 at 21:03, kevhamster said:I'd go for the Dell.
Thanks both. After looking further into it the Inspirons seem to have issues with overheating, is that something you were aware of?

Looking into getting a new laptop as mine is nearly 8 years old. Mainly use it for FM, general internet use and Microsoft Office.
Budget is under £1k, want something that’ll last for a good number of years like my current one has.
Minimum requirements are:
- Eight core processor
- 16GB RAM
- SSD 500GB
- 14 to 16 inch screen
- HDMI and classic USB (is that 3.0?)
- Avoid an integrated graphics card, ideally play FM on the highest settings (but maybe things have moved on and that’s now possible on integrated?)
- Current laptop is fairly heavy so a lighter one would be a bonus
- DVD/CD drive would be a bonus but very rarely use so could buy a portable drive if necessary
Found these three after filtering for those requirements but wondering if there’s better value for money out there.
If those specs can be improved on without a much bigger budget then even better.

It’s the active regression of those with poor facilities that concerns me, @Pompeyboyz. If we look at @Makoto Nakamura most recent save, his top AML regressed from 16 to 21. Realism dictates that, even with the worst training facilities in the world, you’re going to improve with game time and naturally between those age…
I like that there has been some changes at basic and above, but a decently determined 16/52 player at 16, with poor facilities and 15-20 games minimum per season, still ought to be averaging a 10-15 CA increase over 5 years - not staying still, or actively regressing…
Don’t know the story of that player but not everyone IRL gets better every year from age 16 onwards. Injuries, attitude, facilities, how they fit with he manager/coaches/club/team mates, life outside of football etc can all have an impact.
There are plenty of examples of players who were very promising but never made it. Some don’t improve, some get worse and fall down the leagues - it may be that they didn’t keep themselves fit (physical decline) and that led to them not maintaining their technical and mental attributes.

This looks interesting, a recently former Portuguese club who get Cape Verdean newgens.

Like how my National League South centre back chested the ball down here, expected him to kick or head it clear. Don't remember seeing control like that on previous FMs.

I think I already know the answer, but assume the list of playable leagues is the same as FM21? Can't find anything definitive online, just people talking about licensed leagues, which I don't care about.
Latvia's the only addition.

If anyone's looking for something new the Latvian league is now a playable league out of the box.

Zealand (FM Youtuber) manages Oriental Dragon. I think they get Chinese newgens.

I'm looking for some inspiration for a Youth based save. Ideally in Portugal or Spain and ideally playable out of the box rather than waiting for an edited database. I want to manage a small club but there also needs to be something special/niche about them.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
C.D. Santa Clara are from the Azores so that interests me.
I'm not even sure how many tiers are playable out of the box. is it just 2?
What about Spain? Is that 2 too? I think it's 3 isn't it, but the 3rd tier is called the 2nd league or something?
Arenas Club de Getxo are an option here. Founding member of La Liga fallen on hard times and are also Basque.
FC Andorra, not just for the foreign status, but also because they are owned by Pique.
UD Tamaraceite are in the Canary Islands.
Anyone else spring to mind for any reason?
Pretty sure Spain and Portugal are both playable down to the 4th tier after their restructures.
Plenty of clubs in Spain that could be interesting but Andorra are the only one I know who get newgens of another nationality. Wiki has maps showing where all the 4th tier clubs are based - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021–22_Segunda_División_RFEF
There are two who share their border with Morocco, Ceuta and Melilla. Believe they both get Spanish newgens, so no real link to Africa in game.
One challenge could be to overtake Barca with Badalona, who are based immediately north east of Barcelona.
Another idea would be to manage a Basque club and only sign players from the area, aiming to one day challenge Athletic. There are several but I remember Sestao River Club, I managed them on one of the early FMs. At the time on the game all Basque clubs had the same restrictions as Athletic, all I could do was fight against relegation.
There was a club who were owned by a conspiracy theorist, hence renaming them Flat Earth FC. It seems they've been taken over again and become a reserve team for another club.
You've also got the Balaeric Islands where there are a few clubs that'll be playable, including the smaller of the Ibiza clubs. A good choice if you're a fan of Harry Enfield. Bonus points if you sign players named Kevin and Perry.

Joe Ledley's missing Charlton from his history.
Signed 6th December 2019, left 15th January 2020, 1 league appearance, 0 goals.

What's the "game breaking" issue that's going to be fixed? Sounds like it's not saved game compatible?

Had a break from reloading, came back to it and Bamber Bridge were promoted at my first attempt

How long were you reloading for to get them @Scab?

Of course, forgot about that screen.

I also saw morpeth and i think they are higher this year- ca 1950. In club rep the teams around them are witton, dorchester and folkestone - all 1950 last year.
That might explain it - how did you find out their rep? I've seen Horsham come up who only have a rep of 1600, but I guess that's been increased too.
5 minutes ago, DazRTaylor said:It doesn't help immediately, but Bamber Bridge do show up eventually. I got them roughly every 50 reloads or so in FM20.
Thanks, good to know it should be possible (assuming their rep hasn't been lowered).

Anyone found any new unusual clubs in FM24? Foreign newgens, different philosophies, player restrictions etc?
