  1. I really like the stamina tweak that we have this year. Making furious pressing systems very hard to keep all season long and giving squad rotation a real importance.

But i think it needs to be a little bit more balanced. In previous FMs, strikers and CB were less exhausted after a game. That made sense. In real life you can see 34-35 years old players playing very well in those positions.

Goretzka does way more sprints, and at a higher intensity than Lewa. Same for Ibra-Kessie. And i don't give examples of CB because it's obvious that they spend less energy on matches than WB or CM.

So, i think SI needs to bring more balance to stamina, allowing us to stick to 1 player for the striker and the 2 CB like IRL where those 3 guys rarely rotate as they spend less energy than everyone else on the field.

  2. @Cleon : First of all, wonderfull to see you back !!! Surprisingly i use the same 4-4-2 diamond formation as you. As i really don't like the behavior of the IW/IF in FM22 i decided to go for the narrow 4-4-2.

But i've made some changes and i really want your opinion about that.

I've changed the BBM for a Carilero : i found that the BBM is too agressive. I have 3 man up front in charge of the attacking phase, i don't want him to go in the box. Basically, a BBM has an attack duty in possesion and a defend one in defence. IMO it's too much, i'd rather have a supporting player in possession and i like the fact that he will cover the flank, as my WB will be high on the pitch.

I've changed the DLF-S and the PF to 2 AFs : i want the two strikers to be the 2 main options for the Trequarstista, calling for the ball behind the defence, buying some time for him to dribble in the center. I set the PI to stay wider for both of them so they split the defence and can be a nightmare to CD : should i press the Trequartista and let my marked AF go or should i stick to my AF and let the Trequartista do whatever he wants without pressing him ? And i like the fact that they will stay wider without the ball to make calls in the center behind the defence as i have play through the middle TI.

I've changed the Mezzala-A to a support role. With the attacking role, the mezzala have the PI to Take more risks, so i've seen him relentlessly trying to make trough balls over the tops to my AFs. First, it ended up in loose balls 90% of the time, and second it ignored my trequartista which needs to be a part of the attacking phase, otherwise he's useless.

I've changed the WB to support duty. With and attack duty they want to be decisive. Combining that mentality with the play trough the middle and two AF up front, i saw hundreds of through balls from them, played by the touchline, they are too agressive, they rush plays, and they don't have the skills to do so. So i changed their duty and give them the PI to take fewer risks

That's the 3 changes i've made, based on what ive seen in matches :

    - BBM beeing too agressive in posession

    - DLP-S : not in phase with what i want  giving space, time and killer balls solutions to the trequartista

    - Mezzala-A trying too much balls over the top

    - WB-A beeing too agressive in their passing, always looking for a decisive through ball

I really want your opinion about these changes

  3. Im over performing with every team but to me its normal. I played 250 hours in every iteration for years. Would be a shame if i struggled to be successful in 22. To me theres 2 major concerns :

first FM is too much of a rewarding game and not enough a punishing one. Theres a Big problem on thé gameplay balancing. You play with a bunch of wonderkids : okay but you have to pay thé price of the lack of consistency, expérience, composure, cohesion,etc...in FM you get rewarded for having young talents but never punished. Same thing for the tactics. If you play over agressive tactic putting 4 guys UP front pressing like madness you will get rewarded. But not get punished with player stamina dropping, counter attacking, or players with low teamwork not fitting thé system and breaking thé pressing synchronisation. I feel like FM has one way to be successful and all thé others are wrong.

and second, it lacks of dynamics. You Can manage tactics, recruitment, staff, players interaction choosing one path and sticking to it for years. Nothing will come to disturb your peacefull way to success. I would love to be chalenged by unpredictable évents like players conflicts, recruitment restrictions by the board, players unhappy for not playing CL matches, player private problems(divorce, media harrasment, etc)

  4. Hello,

I'm struggling to see the differences between the two roles in this specific FM. It was pretty clear in FM21 but in fm22 i can't see the difference.

I tested to play the same match twice switching the roles , i watched the matches , the data and i can't see any differences.

I don't know if it's related to the "not cutting inside" known bug , so if someone manage to see clearly a difference, help would be appreciated.

  5. Im very sorry for you guys but I really think this ME is good. it's not perfect but it's never gonna be. IMO the game is great. I'm not seeing so many goals from set pieces. I see a fair amount of central attacking plays in my 4-3-3. My striker was underperforming as an advanced forward, going into channels, crowding some areas of the pitch, leaving the box empty but I switched him to a poacher and he's now scoring a lot and behaving like a real n9.

I think SI did a wonderful job this year on the ME but the frustration of the players comes from the names/description of the mechanics. As the ME becomes more and more complex, the description of the mentality, Tis, Pi's, roles and duties and tactical presets remain the same. Managing to have a strong tactic, to make your team doing what you want is now far more complex than 2yrs ago. Achieving is now rewarding because it's harder. The mistake of SI is the lack of precise information on what an instruction is really doing, and with what it interacts. And the tactical presets, which make people think playing like Liverpool is just a matter of 2 to 3 mouse clicks.

I'm enjoying a lot this FM edition and I thank SI for the good job they've done, the support and release of patches during half the lifespan of the edition and the public beta which is a really good thing.

Just a suggestion : do less to do more. Let me explain: don't waste your time and resources bringing some new features every year. You really need to polish some existing features, going much more deeper in the mechanics (financial evolution, sponsorship, players behavior outside the pitch, regens algorithm, African regens, physical recovery, season fatigue, Dynamics, external events, etc...)  to make the more dynamic and unpredictable.

But again thank you for your work, you're doing a lot more and a lot better than 90% of the game editors right now

  6. I think you're missing the point. If ME calculates that playing trough the middle against a defensive packed team is impossible, that's totally fine. It's dumb to try to break a low defensive line well placed with play through the middle. The ME behavior is totally natural and realistic. The problem is that parking the bus is a very demanding tactic. Not every team is Mourinho's inter. If you lose your concentration just a second it can be deadly because the opponents are very high in your own half. That's the problem of FM, the problem that you talk about. Lack of punishment for choosing an extreme tactic. It's the same problem when you go for an attacking gegenpress : you're not enough punished for playing such a risky tactic.

  7. You have the problem that every player has in every game. The AI is nowhere near the human intelligence. Playing against AI in fps, rts, civilization,etc...gets frustrating when you're getting good at it. And in those games you have difficulty levels. You can't have these in FM.

Unless AI makes good progress soon, it always will be quite easy to dominate in every game released with just some hours of practice.

I think you're right pointing the easyness of FM but the cause is a matter of technologic limitations, not FM conception.

  8. I would like to see some known profile in the regens. Right know every striker is lacking vision, every fb is lacking technique, etc... They're too stereotyped. What I want to see is a Jordi Alba (attacking and technical fb), or Pique (cb with playmaker vision and passing technique) or Benzema or aguero (cf with vision and technique that can play F9) profile in the newgens.

  9. I would like to have a season fatigue indicator. Like you can't have a player which played every game, plus international fixtures during the season, had played every game last season plus a world cup or euro and then, in May you rest him for a week and he's ready to go for the rest of the season. This indicator can be a percentage like the 2 that already exists. This percentage can be raised by good training, good pre season training and rest. And it drops if physical training is lacking in preseason, if the player is not professional enough in training and in the last third of the season if he plays too much. Think about Modric or Marcelo at RMadrid who where exhausted after the world cup. I know there's already 2 physical indicators but I was thinking more of an indicator which last the whole season to emulate the fatigue of a player that has played a match every 3 days since 7-8 months.

  10. My feedback :

ME is fantastic. Way better than the previous version. The dev work is clearly visible. Congratulations to SI, your work on the ME is terrific

And i love the addition of the inverted winger role for the AML/AMR. Winger was too stereotyped (running straight forward to cross) and inside forward played too much like a forward not involved in the build-up phases.

To me and after reading a lot a posts i think theres only one major issue that need to be addressed as soon as possible :

1vs1, long ball over the top, overpowered dribbling/lack of aggressiveness when a player is dribbling : i merge all of that because i think its the same problem : defensive behavior

All of these problems have the same cause : Defenders just don't know how to react in some situations. And i think its the side effect of the final third movement overhaul of this version.

Remember last year when the community complains about lack of central play and lack of involvement of the CF ? Those are solved in fm20 but it has side effect on the defense.

IMO long balls over the top are fine. It seems to me that every single CF IRL make constant movement to disrupt the defense and always try to call for the ball behind the defense. The're only a few CF (like benzema)  who call for the ball in their feet like a "support" player. The problem is that normally 70 to 90% of the time, the defenders anticipate the trough ball and intercepts the pass. And if the CF manage to get the ball, CB put great pressure on him, tracking back like crazy, preventing him to make a simple pass or running with the ball. They bring a lot of physicality, tackle with urgency and leave no space for him to  do whatever he wants.

To me everything will be solved by improving the awareness and the aggressiveness of the defenders.

Defenders more aware = decreasing of successful long balls over the top.

Less long balls = less 1vs1

Defenders more aggressive = less runs without pressure. Get rid of the 50 yard runs and of the defenders just running aside the attacker doing nothing letting him shoot easily.

BUT i wonder if that problem if not a consequence of the tweaking regarding penalties. I think that SI lower the tendency to tackle of the defenders to avoid too much penalties. Another side effect...

Just a word to say that i think it can be better for SI to release a game every two year. Tweaking the ME is so complex, needs so much testing that i think 1 year is not enough. Maybe a big update in october and then a new realse the next year...

And i think SI needs to communicate a lot more on the WIP. But on closed thread. Just a post, no responses allowed, no discussions. I would love to have some sort of blog or dev log to follow the SI work. Like Ubi did with Anno Union.

We're very close to a fantastic ME, so please SI fix it before Xmas. It would be a amazing gift.

  11. Thank you @herne79 : i'm aware that roles and duties can help. Clearly, using them wisely can make things work in fm19 regarding mentality split. But i think mentality regroup many aspects of player behavior both offensively and defensively. That's why i think that removing mentality (which is quite confusing for some) and replacing it with clear sliders (risk taking, pressing, forward runs, tempo ) cans be a great addition.

Anyway thank you for your time and advice

  12. I'd like to take off the mentality setting from the tactics to split it between every aspect this setting manage.

Some sort of slider to manage risk taking, tendency to move forward, pressing, creative freedom, tempo individually or between units (defense, midfield, attack).

Since team shape had been removed we cant split mentality between players making defenders playing carefully and attackers very aggressively for example

  13. Let me share some of my thoughts about ME.

I play a 4-2-3-1 (like many FM players). At first i was using an attacking mentality. I don't use wingers so crossing was limited but i've seen the same problem that many of you talk about : Player dribble by the sideline (mostly wingbacks), doesnt outrun the defender but tries to cross and obviously cross is blocked. I can't say that happens enough to talk about an ME bug but it was clearly poor decision making from my players, they keep being blocked and they keep trying without changing anything. Also, my striker was totally useless ( that looks like a bug to me)

And then i switch from an attacking mentality to a positive one. Reducing the tempo a little bit. Lowering my LOD and LOE. And then i can see clearly that its much better. Telling my players to take a little more time to "think", to create an opportunity before trying risky passes, crosses or dribble made my team much much better. And my players take a little more time to seek for my striker, giving him 1 or 2 extra second to make a difference from his marking opponent. I realize that i was  telling my players to take very high risks in every situation (defending ans attacking) making them rushing their decisions and tries to do a miracle with every ball they got. Now they are more patient with the ball and they take the time to create space, passing routes and mismatch to beat the AI.

I'm not sure, im not SI dev but i really think that mentality is the key. And i also want to use that post to say that removing team shape was a big mistake. Again i'm not SI devs but from my observations, mentality affects a player behavior more than any other option. Being able to tweak the mentality line by line, players by players, to split creative freedom ans responsibilities between units was very useful imo. Especially as i see that mentality has a great effect on player behavior.

So for the ones who struggles with ME, try to lower your mentality and your tempo to give your player more time to make a good decision AND try to lower your line of defense and LOE to create some space.

It's just a suggestion as i don't want to debate in here. To be honest i don't like this forum but i want to help some of my FM brothers :) if i can....

  14. When I read this thread it seems that the problem is that we can't have different mentality between players. It was exactly what team shape did in fm18. Determine how much difference there was between players regarding their position and role/duty. Choose between fluid where everyone is concerned about attacking or defending and structured where the team is splitted in units that complete only certain tasks. So you can have a scale of risk taking from low to your defending squad to high to your offensive one. I've read that a lot of fm players think that removing team shape is a great idea, because it was too complex. I don't think so, I really miss team shape, so do you as it seems you struggle with your tactics. And I totally agree the AML/AMR lack a generic role. It's the only position that don't have one. Anyway you can try using attack duty in more conservative approach, it may lead to high risk taking players even if the tactic is more conservative.

  15. il y a 3 minutes, kingking a dit :

Mate this is what we should be discussing, how to get CBs to be more involved in build-up play and attacking phase (with possession). in order to create benefits of wasting time, maintaing possession or finding space in the midfield or final-third.

CB's can now be Libero in FM19, Liberos support midfielders and strikers by going further up during build-up and attacking play (with possession) .

Can we have 2 CB's as Liberos? can anyone confirm this?

We need a CB that supports the midfielder by being available to play tiki taka with them, tiki taka between the CB and the Midfielders to maintain possession, find space or waste time.

It depends on what SI made with the "libero". If its the playmaking defender ive described its what you looking for, its a great new feature but the name libero is false. But thats not the first time SI messed up with the names of its features.

If its a BPD who plays higher up on the pitch, as a moderator told me before, its useless and very risky in transition phases

  16. you're telling us that changes in tactics creator are complex, that they requires revamping ME and AI or it wont work suggesting that we cant ask for changes just like that.

Bringing that in that conversation is weird, buy anyway...

I've read a little bit more of the posts on this thread and i made my opinion : nothing new in tactics, and i realize, reading the other posts before today that i'm clearly not the only one thinking that

  17. Having a new role for CB : playmaking defender. He attract the ball and push the midfield up front as he takes responsibility for the restart of play,  keeping the ball, looking for a good pass as the midfield spread out. It allows you to have one more men to build up your attacks as the deep lying playmaker can be higher, every man on midfield is a solution of pass and the "first build-up pass" is the responsibility of the playmaking defender. Ask guardiola, he invented it :) he always give the responsibility of the "first build up pass" to one of his central defenders and tells his midfielders to spread out to occupy space. That why its very hard to press high against guardiola :) .

But this new role needs to change the behavior of his teammates, not espacially his behavoir, as the BPD is already there. It needs to makes players pass him the ball and to midfield spread out to offer passing solutions higher up on the pitch

    Thats a new feature !! :)

  18. il y a 3 minutes, Scoham a dit :

You said “There's not a single instruction that you can't assign in fm18“which isn’t true. That’s not the same thing as saying the new instructions are small additions.

The new options may be pointless to you but others will feel differently.

I’d also say that making things easier to do is a good thing - it opens the game up to more players. More players means more income which can be invested into making future  versions better.

Totally agree with you. More players are a good thing for everyone, and if making thing easier can brings some more people to play fm i would be very happy.

To be honest i think that the critics and the press don't salute FM as it should be. I play video games for decades and FM is deeper than 99% of the recent games. It reminds me the old games that you have to play 200 hours to finish. Learning all the mechanics, failing hundreds of times :)

But don't forget your loyal players that have spent 200h on every iteration. Make the game more casual, easy to understand is good for everyone as i said before but not sufficient to please the guys that bought every game you released

And i know that the new options will be a huge update for a lot of players, but i can't honestly say that its new and a big revamp, not after spending hours tweaking things up in fm18, losing games, raging against ME to finally understand whats needs to be done in tactics module to achieve styles of play and making my team do what i want them to do. But i clearly understand why the game needs to be more casual, more clear and i see the benefits of it for everyone, even me : more players = more money = more resources to develop new features in future

  19. il y a 2 minutes, themadsheep2001 a dit :

In FM18 a lot of your width settings were interconnected with a other instructions. Now they are not, which will give you much more flexibility to create a defence ie. no longer having to change mentality to narrow your defence

I say it since the beginning, fm18 tactics module is very complex, and you can do pretty much everything but not directly. you dont have the option, the slider to do that. But tweaking some of the others options you can indirectly set for example the defensive width or a lot of other things

As for the flexibility that fm19 brings. To do what ? have a conservative line of defence with an agressive attacking unit ? Set the tempo, the passing, use the right roles. And team shape allows you to split mentalities between players.

Ok i stop :):):)  because i love fm19 but that just good marketing that youre doing right now. (I'm telling this with a smile on my face fyi :) :)  )

  20. Segundo volante : tremendous new feature

    carrilero, mezzala same

Look for underlap : very interesting

"Links" between wingbacks and wingers, the two CBs,  etc... and links that tighten with time : really a great addition i love it

That's what i call new features. Again i dont blame Si as theyve done so much great work last years that i can understand how hard is it to bring something new this year

  21. Defensive width is totally dependent of the attacking shape of the opponent. The only situation were you can ignore the wingers and get as narrow as possible is when you park the bus, i give you that. Again not a thing that will change all the game approach as its available for only one tactical style.

But that's not the point, i will buy the game, i love this game, SI made a fantastic job. But don't fool me, the game become more and more casual, new features are harder to find as many things have been done already (especially in tactics) and this year tactics revamp announcement is a clear example of that. Despite that, fm19 will be the best management game as a result of years of great work and i will play it for hundreds of hours

And dont worry about my mistakes, i quit careers because of the ease i have to win almost every game after 4 or 5  seasons :):):)
