  1. As reported by different people, the post-match performance ratings are still extremely narrow (usually between 5 and 7, never going below 4, and only go above 7 if a player scored a goal). It is an especially big problem area for goalkeepers, where even the best GKs with world class saves can't ever get a 9 or a 10 rating.

This has been a large issue in all previous versions of FM. Shouldn't be very difficult to fix, so I implore the team to invest a bit into fixing this in FM19.

  2. From another thread (alpha livestream thread) I see that this area was not improved upon. :( Quote: "- Player Ratings are not accurate. In this special case Goalkeepers. For example, Manuel Neuer from the game against Bayern made a world class game and get a 6.9 Rating, should more like 9 to 10 rating I think.
    "

This is very unfortunate. New tactics and training are welcome, but it's always sad that core part of the game is not improved.

  3. I remember that every FM until 18 had very narrow performance ratings - usually from 5 to 8, and they would go up only for goals scored. Defenders would rarely get 8+ rating. Goalkeepers would always have a rating between 6 and 7, regardless of how crucial their saves were.

Any changes in making performance ratings wider (e.g. from 1 to 10 actually, similar how real life journalists do them) for all players, including defenders and goalkeepers?

It's 177, so he has 9 points to grow into which is reasonable for a 24 year old.

There are only 5 players at the start of the game with more than 179 CA, two of the best players of all time, one of the best goalkeepers of all time, the most expensive player of all time (and Luis Suarez). I've always liked him and knew after that first 20 goal season that he was going be good but Kane is not on that level.

175 in my save, not sure why

What makes Kane special is his style of play, and particularly so under the Spurs style. I've only watched him play a couple times in the CL, and already it is clear to see that guy is top talent- there's no denying he's going to be scoring goals. There is no way his development will "stifle", he's already there. The only way to stifle him is to sell him in an unfortunate scenario to a club that will bench him or try to play him on the wing or some other weird stuff (say Mourinho buys him on a whim).

But, if in your FM save he remains at Spurrs and plays under Pochettino, Kane is going to be dominating defenses for a long time to come.

If Pochettino is still the manager, then IMO there's something off with the engine.

Yes Poch is still the manager.

  6. I am stumped. FM18. My (Man Utd) player Angel Gomes is 18, and got his first loan spell at West Ham (also Premier League) since Jan 2019. By March 2019 he is a regular starter in West Ham, playing 6 games for the first team (he wasn't a regular in my first team, just starting for U23s). What I see is that almost all his attributes declined in March (several of them after an increase in February). For example, Acceleration went from 16.4 in Jan to 17.0 in Feb to 16.4 in March. Finishing went 9.4-10.0-9.4. Some just declined, e.g. Dribbling went from 14.4 in Jan, 14.4 in Feb, 14.2 in March. Similarly Long Shots went from 11.4 in Jan to 11.0 in Mar.

Angel Gomes CA is still much lower than his PA. West Ham have Great training facilities (15) and several coaches.

    What could be happening?

  7. So, surprising update!

I changed the tactic and won 3-0. I even had more shots on target.

So basically I decided to try a counter-attacking tactic, similar to Mourinho's tactic in the Tottenham and Chelsea games. I conceded possession on purpose (60-40), and conceded many shots (14) but they were off target - Real had only 5 on target shots and only 1 clear cut chance.

2 of my goals were typical counter attack goals - CWB crosses from the deep, AF beats the last man, one-on-one with the keeper and scores. I guess my adding of "Direct passing" and "Higher tempo" helped here. Highest pass combination was Valencia-Lukaku.

    Here is the tactic.

I man-marked AML and AMR by my CWBs (thanks for advice); and I had special instructions against Ronaldo (tight marking, closing down, tackling hard). I also reduced number of playmakers (thanks for advice), and removed offside trap. I didn't change almost anything during the game, apart from adding "Retain Possession" after I was 1-0 up (realizing that it would reduce effectiveness/speed of my counters).

I am surprised that players played pretty well in unfamiliar positions (e.g. Valencia and Young not used to CWB positions, Rashford not used to AF role, Lukaku not used to DLF role, Blind is shaky as CD).

Surprisingly, Ronaldo got the worst rating in the game - 6.3! :) (to be fair he was injured at 68', but I was leading 3-0 by that time).

  8. I am playing FM18 beta for Manchester United. In Super Cup vs Real Madrid I tried to be solid at the back, but it didn't work - I conceded 19 shots (7 on target), while my team only managed 7 shots (4 on target). I tried save/load multiple times with different tactics and every time they manage almost 20 shots. The possession is always ~30% for me and ~70% Real.

Any advice on how to keep Real to fewer shots is appreciated. I would love to emulate real life Mourinho and string of clean sheets.

I tried these two tactics, both pretty much same result. I tried moving mentality between Counter and Standard. I tried changing team shape from fluid to flexible to structured. Any ideas appreciated!

Here is the analysis from the game played mostly with first tactics. I actually won 1-0 but didn't like how it went.

  9. By bigish I mean a club that's big but not an elite team. A team which has a good stature in European football and a nice squad/facilities to be able to turn into an elite side and dominate domestic and european football in the next few years. I want a fun challenge, either a team from a lower European nation who I can turn into an elite European side, or a team in a division where there are powerhouse teams such as Bayern in the Bundesliga or Real Madrid and Barca in La Liga so I can try to end their dominance. Can anyone suggest me a few great teams to be? So far on my shortlist I have A.Madrid, AS Roma, Schalke 04, Dortmund and Shakhtar but not sure which one to choose. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I reached Champions League semifinals with BATE from Belarus in the second season. It's fun, though quite difficult since league's reputation severely limits who I can sign, and your best players will demand to be sold all the time. Scouting is crucial.

Belarus has only one Champions League spot so you are in for a tough challenge to be a champion every single year, though Dinamo Minsk is definitely a strong competitor.

You have to go through three qualification rounds to even reach Champions League group stage, and then you need to compete from the fourth drawing pot.

    It's fun.

  10. B) PA stars are simply a judgement by your staff and as such are often wrong and change over the course of a few seasons. Binning players early because they don't have 3*+ PA initially is a massive mistake.

Does it actually happen that someone is 2.5*- PA 17 years old, but becomes 4*+ CA later? It would be cool to see examples.

  11. Raising the issue again.

I want to be a 'selfish' national team manager and field players for 180 minutes, but I can't if they keep training hard while on international break - I can't start someone with 70% condition for sure.

In my club management I usually start players with 93-95% condition. I accept that for national break it's tougher and I'm cool with 85-90% condition. But having consistently the whole team under 85% is ridiculous, and there is zero control over rest days and training intensity on international break.
