Finally the personality of your youth staff also rubs off on younger players. A player whose personality has a good dose of determination, professionalism and ambition is valuable, because he generally develops well if you create the right conditions.

I think this is the extent to which those mental attributes matter from my own experience with the game. You also often see those backroom staff in the favored personnel of the Youth products of your academy which shows that their personality definitely rubs off on the young whippersnappers.
As for the difference an attribute or two here and there makes, I’m not quite sure.

  2. I don't know if this is still the same in newer versions of the game, but from the time the Tech. Dir. was a role in the game, he had the power to fire the manager.

So, the first thing I always do when I go to a club is, Fire the Technical Director.

It absolutely made no logical sense that the manager can fire the T.D. and the T.D. can fire the manager. Illogical and absurd.

It needs a better word than 'complacent '. It just means the player thinks they're comfortable.  It doesn't affect things as adversely as the word implies.

I think I’ve had a similar observation to the OP all these years and it’s really really annoying. But I wonder how much that body language actually had on their performance and how that can be measured? I also notice that they usually go straight from complacent to variants of nervous and nerves once the score becomes closer (from their being complacent!). So I’d rather term it “overconfident”, but I wonder how much impact it has on their actual performance

  4. Football is a mental game; both literally and figuratively! How did the French team just gain so much confidence from their 1st goal after playing nothing till then, and Arg just lose all their fortitude!

We saw it happen against Spain, Germany and a few others. The World Cup of comebacks

And that referee deserves a mention. It will take some effort looking for the post to upvote it where others mentioned it, but he had a perfect game getting all the major decisions spot on.

  5. What a final. What a tournament. What legends..

This Mbappe guy should really have left France and gone to one of the bigger leagues when he had the chance. Very bad decision on his part and I equate it slightly ahead of Neymar leaving FCBarcelona to go to PSG as one of the worse transfers/decisions of recent years. He's just shackled himself professionally over there in the French capital.

Also, watch out for this France team when these youngsters all mature a bit more.. Once it went to penalties, I had an inkling Argentina would win because they had more experienced players but this French team, when/if it comes of age, would be fantastic to watch.

I'm happy for Messi. Watched him when he came up and to finally see this happen, I'd quote Rowling "All is finally well in the world".

I hope the success of this tournament doesn't make people forget the atrocities that Qatar pioneer and perpetuate.

And finally, I second those saying that the World Cup should be played in the middle of the season. It makes for a better show having fit players.

Konaté is better when fit. Upamecano has looked a bomb scare.

Not sure about Rabiot vs Fofana, Rabiot has had a good tournament but haven't watched Fofana outside of this tournament.

My eyes were just drawn to the bomb scare stuff... I was like, OMG! Somehow, I was always just waiting for some news like that coming from this tournament. Thank God it was just a metaphor

  7. I don't have the FM version for this year, but in FM 14 I know that the AI used this. I haven't played FM21 long enough to notice if it's there (the latest version of the game that I own).

Also, you can really only notice this if you watch the full matches as it's not too common (though I think it was more common in older versions (FM17 and back)).

Why do you care though? It's not like it's a big thing to make their tactics any more effective.

My overall perception is that the game has become a swollen, Frankenstein monster of an experience.

Its gut is bloated, its skincare regime has been neglected and there are several half-forgotten limbs that have just been left to rot or wither.

There is just SO much here, in SO many places, with SO much redundancy. What is the  true focus of the game? What is the engine for enjoyment?

No surprise mate. It’s been eating full fat all these years. ☺️
Haven’t you heard the phrase “full fat FM” before?

We all miss FM Classic, both figuratively and literally

I haven't played enough for those details. I think Rashidi released a video on his impressions.

I'm talking about the player movements, decisions, variety of things you see in the 3d game. The types of shots and tackles they now make. The quick stopping of a ball with their feet and turning around to pass to a team mate. The "dribbling" and then stopping and moving another way. It is much more fluid. Much more variety. Much more realistic to see. The impact on the actual game behind the scenes i cannot tell you yet after couple of hours of playing.

Well, those are good. But I was more specifically referring to the tactics of it. Do the guys that love to run with the ball every time in real life, do it? How are the tactics compared to FM21? What about the pressing and other tactical stuff.  Not really about the graphics of the 3D display match view

My feedback/impressions after a couple of hours playing:

    1) Match Engine (note for some: this does not mean graphics)

It is truly an improvement. The way the players move and stop and turn the other way, or shoot, or pass. It is a mix of more fluidity, more chaos, and sheer beauty of shots and passes and moves. Thumbs up.

How does the ME compare to FM 21? We need people to compare the better versions of the ME, as some people do believe that the FM21 ME is still top of the tree when it comes to realism and general play.
Do the IF and Wingers behave even more like their real life reps than in FM21? How about pressing and defense compactness?
How do the sweeper keepers compare on both the versions in question?

C’mon people, give us some more detailed reports. I know this is beta though, so there’s that too …

  11. I’m still hoping to know why the pitch textures and face Gen graphics changed.
I have FM14 and 21. I can see the difference in those aspects of the games. The FM 14 pitch looks better. Why?

I don’t need conjecture or speculation. We used to have an Ask-SI-Anything thread for these sort of questions. We need answers as to what changed from management.

Was also going to throw my 2 cents into the other conversations, but who can afford that these days!?

I agree with XaW who insists on prioritizing improving longer term play of AI competitiveness and team building.

As much as this pains me, I’ll take a leaf from #DiaperDon and say
