The 2019 Beta ME vs the full release ME were night and day last year.
I suspect they are already working on a version of the Match Engine several iterations ahead of this one.
I think the 'BETA' element refers more to general playability and bug spotting in the game OUTSIDE of the Match Engine.
The idea that something as complex as the Match Engine can be rebuilt based on 2 weeks worth of feedback from users in a non-controlled environment is a fallacy.
I'm sure the Match Engine on full release will be much better balanced.
Just worrying that the ME is in this state even after 11 months of development. I believe the full game will be different, but the question is why its so as it is now.

Here's where you're going wrong
Its easy to mock others, but the reddit community is quite big and quite active. Instead of mocking them, we could take their opinions seriously. If a good part of the people there are noticing something wrong its at least worthy looking at. Yeah Reddit is a shitshow sometimes, but thats the case with every big community I guess.
SI wouldnt do bad by sending over a community manager there or put some other PR person on it like many game makers do. Encourage them to report to these forums with PKMs, share information and generally interacting with people on Reddit. They are already on Twitter (lets not start talking about how bad that is sometimes...), so Reddit is just a small extra step.

I think 19s really ought to be reserved for players who are clearly among the best in the world, and I'd really like to see a version where we err on the side of underrating United players. As it is, Juan Mata is still one of the very best attacking midfielders in the world, again.
Agreed. 19 is almost close to best in the world. McTominay isnt bad but he is not 19 worthy. Especially not in 2 stats. He has not even had a full season under his belt yet and hes getting those stats already at 19 out of 20?
But this is something you need to raise in another section of these forums.

Still not fixed. This was first reported in March..
Really? Oh man that sucks. How can a problem that is replicable for many users since 2018 still not fixed...

Can someone spot if this has already been fixed?

This feature thingy has been going for long and now first time something can be said about Social. Should be evidents that people really dont care or need it
Social media is a huge market and especially in soccer. I underestimate it too, but I think the average soccer fan definitely uses some form of social media. We are on a social media platform as well.

Because they're not facts - they're opinions.
I'm playing FM19 right now and the pitch looks fine (and not really anything like what we've seen of FM20). And of all the things I'd like to see improved in FM, the colour of the grass doesn't even make the top 100.
Well surely grass is at least somewhere there? If its not even top 100, would you mind having grass colored purple for that matter? Immersion is part of the game and if my grass looks like a pool table combined with the already mediocre graphics it just doesnt help. Its surely somewhere in the top 100 for me behind all the gameplay features.

That being said, I hope this bug is finally fixed after 2 years. I havent watched the youtubers, but has any youtuber commented on this already?

If a feature is there you don't like, then you have the choice not to buy it. Progress you can't judge at this point. If you have already bought it, then you will see it anyways in about 2 weeks and upon full release and can then make a constructive feedback if you see it's worse than those from years before.
His point about the grass is that its worse looking over the years. Whether its an alpha version or not doesnt matter. Hes just wondering why the decent looking grass has been changed to begin with. If its fine, why make it worse? Alpha or not, they had almost a year to work on it AND versions before where it was fine. So the question begs, why do they change it?

From what I gather, these games are all played on freshly laid turf & expect over winter it will churn up & wear, rather than over pre-season
Do I want to see that considering how terrible the pitch looks now "freshly laid"?

Very glad to read SI worked on attacking movement. After it became apparent SI could not fix the attacking issues of FM 2019 I quit the game.
The focus on long term saves with more manager restrictions in terms of club vision and player pathways and a more engaging youth development could, alongside a better ME, very well make FM2020 the most cohesive FM yet.
I also applaud the more toned down marketing approach by SI. Last year SI shot itself in its own feet by putting so much attention on the new tactics. This year SI seems quite modest about some features. Of course I might be wrong but FM2020 seems to have a lot of new "presents to unpack" for career gamers. The thought of that makes me want to invest both in the game as in a long term save that really fits me as a manager.
Next step would be a perfect Director of football. I would not mind Being restricted by the vision and signings of the club and its DOF if scouting and signings are done properly.
Bring on November 19th!
Well that DOF suggestion was shot down by Miles earlier for not being "arcade" and not realistic when a user suggested that on Twitter. Dont ask me why...

older match engine in todays build at the stream
Really? So what is shown today? No new match engine, so we just see UI? Were there any reasons given? This doesnt strike me as good news...

You cant live stream on the forums and there arent much people here so your reach is lower.
Twitch is just a live stream platform.
They should have linked the actual channel, but maybe the PR guy forgot that. Didnt seem to even respond to people asking for that in the twitter thread.

The game is niche and i think thats because it has this reputation of being a niche game. Perception is so important. It will probably never be a mainstream game as such because of the time commitment and lack of pick up and play element that is needed.
Niche!? Game is consistently top 10 in steam charts despite being a yearly release. Even older releases beat out new triple AAA games regularly. If this game is niche what are other games lol. Game is far from niche.

I have already mentioned before that the ME needs to be rebuilt because the system is from 2009 with 2009 ideas and frameworks and theres only so much you can do with updating and tweaking and bolting on other systems before it runs less efficient and doesn't suit the needs of today.
Agreed with the graphics part, but this is not needed. We dont know how the internals of the match engine work. Rebuilding something from the ground up isnt always the solution. As a programmer I can tell you that throwing something out of the window and starting again isnt always the solution. Im sure elements of the match engine are refactored and rewritten from time to time. Unless its complete spaghetti code, tweaking and adding new stuff doesnt need a complete rebuilding.

@Double0Seven you seem like a good cook. You may be able to give some culinary advice here.
So far these years I've actually never been there. Have always gave my opinion in the yearly feedback threads in general section for the versions I played.
As a programmer I know how hard it is to deal with users wanting certain features. "We want better graphics" or "we want better running animations" says nothing useful.
But perhaps this year I should try diving in there with a bit more elaborate suggestions.

Surely this applies to all of us too right? SI must surely be in the best position to decide whether the graphics in their game are good enough. How are any of us truly qualified to argue with them?
Well you are correct, our opinion counts for maybe 0.0001% of the playerbase and even then its worth most likely nothing as we arent experts.
But do you need to be a cook to criticise the food? The only other question is whether you can actually improve on the food, but saying how the food tastes isnt just for professional cooks.

Depth and broadness of game play is the most important thing that keeps people playing and coming back.
I completely agree with this, but graphics will also help attract a newer playerbase these days. It wont be the main selling point, but its a good cherry on top. Like someone else said, playing a final of the champions league looks no different than a useless cup match sometimes. Improving this will only help immersion for those that play 3d. Which are many.

You can say that FM graphics can be better these days, but many people (me first) don't care about FM graphics.
In my opinion 3D ME like actually is enough. For some pepole the gameplay is above all how you creates your tactic and how you're manage your team.
And for some people, if player wants better graphics they have to play FIFA or PES.
I'm agree with twice....
FM Graphics could be a little bit better, but you'll never have graphics like FIFA or PES.
And many people do care about FM graphics as it improves immersion and attracts newer players.
Of course the gameplay is more important, but graphics are also part of the game.
6 minutes ago, Akasha said:And for some people, if player wants better graphics they have to play FIFA or PES.
But those arent mangement games? You can want better graphics and still play FM.

I dont think anyone asks for that, but we can ask for better graphics than what we have right now surely? As said, no one loses on anything with better graphics. Its only a win so I dont understand people defending the FM graphics. As mentioned before, many older games with similar min specs produce better graphics so is it crazy to expect a new game in almost 2020 to have better graphics?

It's pointless trying to argue with some people. I'm out.
Man two people seriously responded to you and this is your answer?
All were trying to say is that FM graphics can be better these days. This is not a controversial opinion at all and I cant imagine someone defending the other side. Its only a win-win situation for everyone.

My main issue here is that people are promoting their own opinions - and popular views on very subjective things such as graphics - as facts.
Look I already pointed out to you that some things arent opinions. Are you going to argue that more modern graphic engines which produce more detailed models is worse looking? Even if a socccer player with more details under the hood can somehow be perceived as worse, I doubt showing people gameplay footage of FM compared with mobile games would somehow convince them FM is better looking.
11 minutes ago, CFuller said:"Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi" IS NOT a fact by itself, but an opinion. "Ronaldo has scored more Champions League goals than Messi" is a fact. Likewise, saying that one pop singer is more physically-attractive than another is to state an opinion, while pointing out that one has more chart-topping singles than the other is to state a fact.
Are you explaining the difference between opinions and facts on a forum with mostly adults? Cmon man, we are not children.
11 minutes ago, CFuller said:Anyway, why does a PC game have to look better than a mobile game? Look at this list of most-played games on Steam, and you'll find plenty there that you could argue don't match up to the more sophisticated mobile titles.
Plenty? The first 10 games are majorly games that are good in the graphics department while still reaching many many players. Csgo and Dota are even free games. The reason why people want better graphics is for immersion. Asking why a PC game has to look better than a mobile game? Because a PC game has much more computing resources and is played on bigger screens hence the graphics are much more important. So expecting better graphics isnt out of the ordinary.

Exactly, and better graphics will also drive in newer players. If people were only playing games for gameplay we could have stopped at text or 2d forever. The newer generation appreciates some better graphics. Considering many games do this without ruining the experience for lower end PCs, I cant imagine the player gain of better graphics would lower the experience for anyone. Its a win-win situation as I see it.

Opinion is not fact.
But this is not an opinion? Just look at the games in the play store. There are games with a much more modern looking engine and most likely models with much more polygons resulting in more detailed looks. That's not an "opinion" when it's facts.
Also my other example that you ignored mentions how games with lower specs run better graphics. Prime example, Pes/FIFA of a decade ago. Maybe that's an opinion, but if you put FIFA 09 aside FM 2019 I doubt many people would say FM 2019 looks that much better. Especially the animations, grass, stadiums and overall atmosphere.

Football Manager 2020 Pre-Release Beta *Official* Feedback Thread

As a programmer I can understand what Seb is talking about.
But as a user I can also understand the frustration of Bobby. We are 2 weeks before release and there are problems with the ME that a lot of people has noticed. Its not a small issue either. You can browse here, reddit, other forums, YouTubers and notice that they also have issues. Bobby doesnt see the causes (only SI does), but for Bobby it doesnt matter. He sees the same outputs and they arent good. So what does it matter for Bobby or the user? Nothing. And frankly I can understand it. If almost a full year of development still resolves into having the same issues (despite other causes) what is it good for?
Not to mention the graphical performance which is apparently laggy on some peoples computer. This is not acceptable for a game with such bad graphics in comparison with newer games. RDR2 released today and also has issues, but that is a game of 150gb and has quite some nice graphics.
Also as a programmer, I expect no magic to happen in the last two weeks of development.
I sound negative, but I will reserve my full judgement until the final release. Just saying Im not too exciting this year and can understand user frustrations and why Bobby said what he said.
