  1. Friday 21st October 2022 Mr Damms says, "NO!" I've had to promise some of the new signings that we'd improve the training facilities as they locked that condition in at the start of negotiations. I'm not sure I'll be able to deliver on that promise, but I thought I'd ask our owner, Terry Damms, any way. I got the answer I expected.
  2. Friday 21st October 2022 Here's my thinking with the strikers After the recent injury crisis with our strikers, that saw both Waide Fairhurst and Max Rhodes out injured at the same time, I thought it wouldn't hurt to have more strength in depth, and bringing in two young strikers seemed ideal. Although my backroom staff think Mitchell George and Luca Nelson are already better than my other strikers, with Waide Fairhurst, Max Rhodes and Ryan Charnley scoring goals for fun, I'm afraid Mitchell and Luca will have to be patient for now. Sonny Best is an interesting one as he's more of a winger (AMRL), but can't currently play MRL which are the positions I'm using in my 4-4-2. I'm training him as a ML. At least Ryan Charnley is no longer unhappy with his playing time.
  3. Thursday 20th October 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare sign former Burnley starlet
  4. Tuesday 18th October 2022 Terry says, "Yes!" After rejecting my request in the summer, Staveley Miners Welfare owner, Terry Damms, has agreed to fund a National C Licence coaching course for me.
  5. Sunday 16th October 2022 The Trojans sign Nelson I think Luca Nelson is one for the future, but also a player who could make a difference coming off the bench straight away.
  6. Sunday 16th October 2022 Tuck released by Staveley Miners Welfare Players who come to see me to complain about a lack of playing time should really know how I operate by now. I tell them there's a reason they're not getting the playing time we initially agreed because other players have since joined the club and pushed them down the pecking order. Then I give them the opportunity to agree to a lower playing time expectation. If they agree, great, if they disagree, like Dan Tuck did, then there's a very high possibility I'll release them. It is a sign of how much we've improved this season though. When I signed Dan Tuck, I had high hopes for him and, at the time, I thought he was our best central midfielder. But since then, I've signed six players who would all get in the starting 11 ahead of Dan. Sorry, Dan, but... goodbye.
  7. Saturday 15th October 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Dronfield Town Northern Counties East League Division 1 (12) Inkersall Road, Staveley Miners Welfare. To be honest with you, we blew Dronfield Town away in the first 10 minutes. Waide Fairhurst showed no ill-effects from his recent injury, scoring after 24 seconds, adding another two minutes later, and completing his hat-trick on 11 minutes. Waide then added his, and our fourth, from the penalty spot on 23 minutes. That was it for our scoring, although we did have other chances. We had to take Alex Wood off after 74 minutes with a hamstring problem, but we don't think it's too serious. Dronfield scored a late, consolation goal in added-on time.
  8. Saturday 15th October 2022 Preview: Dronfield Town (Home) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (12) Dronfield Town are bottom of the league with only one point, albeit, they did pick up that draw two games ago against Athersley Recreation (1-1 at home). We're going to have to guard against complacency. I'd hoped I wouldn't have to worry about complacency, with this squad, but I can only put our poor second-half display against Nostell Miners Welfare down to complacency. We're still without Max Rhodes and Marley Grant through injury. We had a number of niggly injuries this week, but everybody seems to have shaken them off ready for the Dronfield Town game. Waide Fairhurst returns up top, after a knee ligament injury, with Sonny Best going to the bench. New signing, Tom Bell, comes into central midfield for Callum Hope.
  9. Saturday 8th October 2022 Heanor Town sack Clarence Heanor Town are a Semi-Professional football club, playing in Tier 9 (a tier above Staveley Miners Welfare) and are seven miles (approximately 20 minutes by car) away. The football club is, actually, closer than the factory where Stu Stuniverse's day-job is.
  10. Saturday 8th October 2022 Nostell Miners Welfare v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (11) Welfare Ground, Wakefield. I've got to be honest and say I'm annoyed after this. A draw, away from home, is a good result but we were 2-0 up at half-time and should have done better. Our two strikers combined on 10 minutes, Ryan Charnley heading home Sonny Best's cross. And on 38 minutes, Sam Wright scored a screamer from outside the penalty area. I'm not sure what happened in the second-half, we just seemed to go to sleep. We forgot to mark players at the far post allowing Mellish to pull one back with a shot and Koukoulis to equalise with a header after Lewis Cox had parried a free-kick up into the air; it was a brilliant save by Lewis but none of our defenders reacted to the rebound. We went Attacking after that, but were unable to grab a winner.
  11. Saturday 8th October 2022 Preview: Nostell Miners Welfare (away) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (11) Nostell Miners Welfare are without a manager after Ian Walker left to become manager of Holbeach United (Tier 10). We have something of an injury crisis up front with Max Rhodes ruled out with a pulled hamstring and Waide Fairhurst still recovering from pulled knee ligaments. Possibly, Waide could give us 45 minutes. Fortunately, Sonny Best can play up front as well as left-wing. Who knew...? New signing Bolton Makwedza comes straight into the team at centre-back in place of Josh Bowkett. 16-year old Jacek Kosowski will be on the bench as the back-up striker because we don't want to risk Waide Fairhurst, with Max Rhodes also out injured.
  12. Sunday 2nd October 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare sign Makwedza I'm hopeful Bolton Makwedza can make an impact for us in both central defence and at right-back. Bolton doesn't require a work permit as he has dual Nationality with Zimbabwe and England.
  13. 2nd after 12 games. A very good start for Bristol City this season, @Punch. Looking promising.
  14. Saturday 1st October 2022 Retford v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (10) Rail Ground, Retford. I thought we played well today and thoroughly deserved the win against Retford. Max Rhodes gave us the lead with a fierce shot that went in off the post just after half-an-hour. Unfortunately, with all three substitutes already on the pitch, we had to play the last 20 minutes with Max Rhodes nursing a pulled hamstring. Sam Wright calmed our nerves when his thunderbolt of a shot, from long-range, doubled our lead. In added on time, we had the chance for a third but Sam Hughes saw his penalty saved by Jon Kennedy.
  15. Saturday 1st October 2022 Preview: Retford (away) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (10) Retford are 17th in the league with one win, three draws and five defeats. Injuries and Fitness Tests Team News Two new signings feature with Callum Hope starting in central midfield instead of Harvey Dickson. Sonny Best replaces Waide Fairhurst on the bench as our medical team say Waide can only give us 45 minutes. Also, Josh Bowkett comes into central defence as David Richardson is looking tired.
  16. Thanks, @Punch. Shame about the FA Vase but it allows us to focus on the league.

  18. Friday 30th September 2022 Hope signs for Staveley Miners Welfare I think Callum Hope will be a good signing for Staveley Miners Welfare and believe he can make a difference straight away.
  19. Friday 30th September 2022 Goodbye, Ethan I met with Ethan Harrison (DRC) because he was complaining about a lack of playing time. Ethan was currently half a star but with potential to be 3-5 stars. He was one of my early pre-season signings and other defenders had come in after him. I didn't think he was going to get much playing time and tried to convince him to accept a lower level of playing time. Ethan was having none of it so I decided to release him.
