  1. Tuesday 29th November 2022 Preview: North Ferriby (away) Northern Counties East League Cup 2nd Round North Ferriby are 4th in Northern Counties East League Premier Division (Tier 9), a tier above us. We're making a few changes for this cup-tie. Ben Roberts returns at right-back for Kane Patterson. Oliver Ritchie also returns, replacing Sam Sharrock-Peplow at left-back. Charlie Rutt has been looking a bit tired, so David Richardson comes in at centre-back.
  2. Thank you, @cerud. That’s very kind of you to say. Glad you are enjoying it!
  3. Thanks, @lionel messi. So if I can get Staveley Miners Welfare promoted to Tier 9, we should be able to play in the FA Cup qualifying rounds. What about the FA Trophy? What level / tier does that kick-in at?
  4. Saturday 26th November 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Brigg Town Northern Counties East League Division 1 (18) Inkersall Road, Staveley Miners Welfare. Brigg Town are a very good team and they made it incredibly difficult for us. We had to work extremely hard to find a way to win. We'd gone with a more Attacking mentality and approach, to try and get the best out of Sonny Best, pardon the pun, but it just wasn't working. We couldn't create much at all. Brigg Town had more possession, had more attempts, but fortunately for us, Sam Agius only had routine saves to make. We did look more robust at the back with Charlie Rutt in alongside Bolton Makwedza in central defence. We made changes... We went more like we'd played previously, Balanced and dropping Lewis Farmer back... Mitchell George was struggling up front so we moved Sonny Best up there, dropped the left winger back, and changed to more expansive, play out of defence, and focus play down both wings. And we finally broke the dead-lock when Nathan Waterston headed in from close range. ... finally, we went with shorter passing. Ryan Charnley doubled our lead with a close range finish. We made lots of changes throughout the game as we endeavoured to find a way to win. Fortunately, we got the win in the end and, tactically, it gives me a lot to think about moving forward.
  5. Saturday 26th November 2022 Preview: Brigg Town (Home) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (18) Brigg Town are 4th, five points behind us, so this is a big game and we'll need The Trojans fans right behind us at Inkersall Road. Our number three goalkeeper, Ben Allsop, pulled a back muscle in training this week. Charlie Rutt returns to central defence after his suspension in place of David Richardson. Up front, I'm giving a start to new signing Mitchell George, alongside Waide Fairhurst. Ryan Charnley stays on the bench so Max Rhodes, unfortunately for him, misses out. We're probably going to adopt a more attacking system as I've been looking for a way to get Sonny Best involved on the left wing and I think that might be the best way.
  6. Saturday 19th November 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Campion Northern Counties East League Division 1 (17) Inkersall Road, Staveley Miners Welfare. Unfortunately, this was one of those games. Play like we did today, we probably win seven or eight out of ten times. We hit the woodwork twice in the first half when Waide Fairhurst rattled the bar (4 mins) and then Sam Wright's free-kick (23 mins) bounced back off the bar. And we struck the woodwork for a third time, after the break, when Ryan Charnley's dink over the goalkeeper (68 mins) clipped the outside of the post. We got caught out at the back on 40 minutes, when Campion took the lead. Boshell looked offside as he was ahead of our central defenders, but on review we realised our left-back, Sam Sharrock-Peplow had played him onside. Fortunately though, we levelled in added on time through Waide Fairhurst to go in 1-1 at the break. During the break, we asked our wingers to attack more. On 53 minutes, we brought Ryan Charnley on for Max Rhodes and changed to an Attacking mentality, pushing our wingers further forward. It worked as Ryan Charnley gave us the lead on the hour and clipped the post eight minutes later. With Bolton Makwedza on a yellow card, we brought on Josh Bowkett and went to a more Balanced mentality. We struggled though without Bolton and our suspended centre-back Charlie Rutt and Campion equalised with a towering header on 85 minutes that Bolton or Charlie might have been able to deal with. We went for it in added-on time, pushing for a winner, but it wasn't to be.
  7. Saturday 19th November 2022 Preview: Campion (Home) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (17) The medical team have passed Jamie Swinburn and Oliver Ritchie fit to play so we're at full strength. Charlie Rutt is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards so David Richardson will get a start in central defence. Maybe that will cheer David up as he's currently unhappy with me for seeing him as a squad player.
  8. Thursday 17th November 2022 North Ferriby to host Staveley Miners Welfare in Cup North Ferriby are 6th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division (Tier 9), a tier above us.
  9. Saturday 12th November 2022 Glasshoughton Welfare v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (16) Lee Johnson Signage Stadium, Castleford. After a defeat and a draw in our last two games, it was good to get back to winning ways again. We got a lucky break in the first minute when Glasshoughton Welfare were reduced to ten men after a shocking challenge from Nickin on Waide Fairhurst. We took the lead on 11 minutes when their goalkeeper dropped a cross and Nathan Waterston was first to react and tap home. Glasshoughton equalised after half a hour. On 41 minutes we were back in front, Max Rhodes finishing well after good work by Waide Fairhurst. Just before the hour mark, Waide Fairhurst scored himself, getting on the end of a low cross from Kane Patterson. We made life difficult for ourselves when we conceded a penalty in the 61st minute, only for Sam Agius to make an excellent save to keep the score at 3-1. If I'm honest, it wasn't a convincing win against ten men, but it was an away win and three valuable points nevertheless.
  10. Saturday 12th November 2022 Preview: Glasshoughton Welfare (away) Matt Rhodes returns up front, with Ryan Charnley dropping to the bench. New signing Lewis Farmer comes in on the right wing, Nathan Waterston switches to the left wing, and Ernest Ofosu is unfortunate to miss out.
  11. Saturday 5th November 2022 Beverley Town v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (15) Norwood Recreation Ground, Beverley. For the first time this season, we weren't good enough. It pains me to say that, but credit to Beverley Town. Beverley won the two key battles. They bossed midfield and their centre-backs got the better of our strikers. Ultimately, they had Charlie Dunkerley, who was the best player on the pitch today, and we didn't. We couldn't cope with Dunkerley. He scored his first on six minutes, his second on 32 minutes, both times out running our defence, and he completed his hat-trick on 50 minutes when he lobbed our goalkeeper Sam Agius. At 0-1, we went Positive and told our wingers to attack more. We had a great chance to equalise on 22 minutes, but Waide Fairhurst saw his penalty saved. At the break, we went more Attacking and made two substitutions, but we were unable to wrestle control of the game from Beverley Town.
  12. Saturday 5th November 2022 Preview: Beverley Town (away) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (15) This is a big game, possibly our biggest game of the season so far. We are 2nd in the league table. We travel to Beverley Town, who are top, above us by two goals on goal difference. A win takes us top by three points, a draw keeps things all levelled up as they are, and a defeat... and I'm sure Beverley Town will be as hungry as us to win... would see us lose ground. But win, lose, or draw, our season won't be defined today. After this game, there's still another 23 games of football to play. We're virtually at full strength. No changes to the starting 11, but Max Rhodes and Sonny Best return to the bench instead of Mitchell George and Alex Wood.

  14. @lionel messi At what level / tier do football clubs start to play in the FA Cup? Really enjoying my save. Started unemployed, no coaching badges, Sunday league experience, and Tier 10 Staveley Miners Welfare were crazy enough to appoint me manager.
  15. Sadly, I don’t know the answer to your question, @Pearomaniac. I do know that the star ratings from your coaches and scouts are relative to the other players at your club. If you didn’t sign anybody in the summer who is significantly better than the other players at your club, I’m wondering if you’ve just reached a level (top League One / Championship) where the star ratings don’t need resetting?
  16. Saturday 29th October 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Armthorpe Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (14) Inkersall Road, Staveley Miners Welfare. This was a game we really feel we should have won. Waide Fairhurst got us off to a fantastic start with a goal in the first minute from an exquisite chip over the goalkeeper. We had chances to extend our lead, but conceded just before half-time. We made some adjustments at the break, going Positive and asking our wingers to attack more. Then we pushed our wingers further forward and went Attacking. It worked, with Sam Hughes giving us an 85th minute lead with a long-range shot into the bottom corner. We went Defensive after that to hold onto our 2-1 lead but, ironically, we created more chances after that change than Armthorpe did. That might have been our undoing though, as they caught us out in the 93rd minute and equalised.
  17. Saturday 29th October 2022 Preview: Armthorpe Welfare (Home) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (14) We are pretty much at full strength, although a couple of players are still working their way back to match fitness. After such a good performance at Wakefield AFC last time out, we won't be making any changes.
  18. Saturday 22nd October 2022 Wakefield AFC v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (13) LD Nutrition Stadium (formerly The Millennium Stadium), Featherstone. I'm very proud of my players after today's game. That's about as complete an away performance as you're going to see. Ryan Charnley and Waide Fairhurst combined brilliantly up front, not once, but twice, as Ryan set Waide up for both of his goals. Charlie Rutt headed in Ernest Ofosu's corner at the near post for a 3-0 half-time lead. After the break, we managed the game out perfectly in the second-half and were unlucky not to add another goal or two. It was nice for our new goalkeeper, Sam Agius, to get a clean sheet on his debut.
  19. Saturday 22nd October 2022 Preview: Wakefield AFC (away) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (13) Wakefield AFC are currently 15th in the league, 20 points behind us. We have no major injury concerns, but a few players are working their way back to full fitness. Having signed two strikers this week, it's unlikely we'll rush Max Rhodes back. New signing Sam Agius comes in for Lewis Cox in goal. Another new signing, Nathan Waterston, replaces Alex Wood on the right wing. And a third new signing, Mitchell George, takes Sonny Best's place on the bench.
