  1.

    - When I test my edited database during the summer transfer window, I can register a 28-player squad but I can only give numbers (1-28) to those players. What do I have to change to make it like normal leagues – you register X number of players but can give numbers (1-99) to everyone? ]

     - Also, in the winter window, all of my players can take new squad numbers even if they were already assigned. How do I change this so that only unassigned players can take new squad numbers (1-99)?

Finally, how can I ease the Serie A limit on non-EU players per season? I have tried to change the season rules to 'non-EU players signed from abroad per season' to less than 5, but it comes with this error message... See below

  2. I am creating a new pyramid in Italy and keep having this same problem when verifying the file – that Serie B somehow doesn't finish in time for the season update day.

"Serie BKT has not finished in time for the season update day 25/6/2023"

Serie B = August 12 to May 13, winter break from December 18 to January 3

    Serie B promotion/relegation playoffs = May 17, 20, 24, 27

Season update day = June 26

What is going on here?? Can anyone take a look and help this?

  3. Hey,

Trying to create a weirdo Everton team full of foreign players for a PL save and obviously I don't have 8 homegrown players for registration.

Have tried to clear their 'days at club/nation' information and add in England and Everton 'between age of 0 and 19 only' but when I open the game it says that the players are still trained in Brazil or Japan or whatever instead.

This is what the players have in the editor... And then in-game it doesn't say this at all..

Only this editor file is loaded so there's no conflict with another one or something.

    What's going wrong here?

  4. So I am creating a 4-3-3 DM narrow tactic. The goals are to be very attacking and direct with a high tempo and with wing-backs getting far forward – that is non-negotiable.
Then there is a regista, two midfielders (CM-s or MEZ-s) who also focus on going forward, an AF supported by two DLF/PF.

It's based on a real life tactic by the guy in my avatar (Zdenek Zeman), but with every tweak my team is leading the league in crosses attempted and completed. Not really sure how to stop the team from putting in 40+ crosses in every game.

I have tried various instructions and widths.
I used to have TI pass into space but with the WBs in tons of space they received a lot of passes which doesn't help. Also used to have CWB but they have cross more as default. Have experimented with PF on stay wider and MEZ to provide a link up for the WBs as well. And experimented with a TI very wide to create more space in the middle but eh...

Right now I have this set-up (for PIs, the WB are on cross less often, close down more, PFs are on move into channels, MEZ on close down, shoot more). Not sure if there is anything conflicting here, or something to be changing.

  5. Mentioned this elsewhere but is there some way to stop the game from giving in-match messages using long club names instead of the regular name without going to the editor and changing the name of every club in the game?

For example, last night I noticed a touchline tablet notification that said "Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging have substituted X for Y" instead of just "Club Brugge" like any normal person would say.

And no commentator says "Società Sportiva Lazio have scored!" etc etc

  6. Is the bar at the top where you can select which highlights to view after a match meant to not be there anymore?

I can't imagine it would be taken out on purpose so I guess something is wrong?

Also I'm not sure where to ask this but is there some way to stop the game from giving in-match messages using club long names instead of the regular name without going to the editor and changing the name of every club in the game?

For example, last night I noticed on the touchline tablet said "Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging have substituted X for Y" instead of Club Brugge.

  7. Right now we can tell the kicker how to take corners or indirect free kicks, and we can tell our players whether to stay back, stay back if needed, stand with taker, come short, lurk outside area, attack from edge of area/posts, challenge keeper, stand on posts etc etc.

Now I'll turn to two articles from The Athletic showing how set pieces can be set up.

https://theathletic.com/2913763/2021/10/26/fulhams-nba-style-corners-how-marco-silvas-controversial-tactic-has-brought-set-piece-success/ - This one if you can't read it, is about Fulham using NBA-style screens to block defenders at corners and free space for an attacker (Mitrovic). See below Mitrovic making a near-post run and Adarabioyo blocking Mitrovic's defender so that the striker has free space to attack the ball.

https://theathletic.com/2672681/2021/06/26/italys-secret-weapon-gianni-vio-the-banker-turned-set-piece-specialist-with-4830-routines/ – Then this, about Italian set piece specialist who has various innovative ways to set up at corners and free kicks. See some examples below where Italian players are: a) creating a blocking wall offside to distract the GK and confuse markers before running onside, b) making a wall of 8 before splitting at the last moment into a set play offering different options, and c) using two header threats to stand offside and fool defenders while targeting Pessina who makes a late run.

Of course we've also seen a number of teams use the tactic of 'lining up' at corners to confuse markers before spreading out and taking up their position as the corner is taken. Here's an example from Bochum in 2016.

Obviously these are more extreme examples of what you can do at set plays but still even in more basic set piece routines there is still a lot more that can be controlled than is possible in the game at the moment.

Maybe an idea would be to add starting positions and finishing positions for players in the set piece screens, so that they will try to make the movements to where they need to be, rather than just telling them where they are to stand as we currently do.

  8. FM needs ann option to use some more advanced method with which we can tell players where they should be in the attacking phase. There are player instructions and player roles but even then it is far less control over player movements than real managers have.

CM01-02 even had this from what I remember. It was quite rudimental but you could still place the players where you want them to be positioned in each phase.

For example if you are trying to recreate a Guardiola Man City tactic, with a full-back tucking in to keep 3 at the back (Walker) and one pushing into central midfield (Cancelo, Zinchenko) or further forward (as Mendy used to do) to create a W-M style 3-2-5 in possession. At the moment we can kind of get there with a FB-d and CD with stay wider in possession but it is still lop-sided and leaves a gap.

So below on the right is a starting formation. In the centre is roughly where they end up in real life. On the right is how it ends up in FM.

    577981852_Screenshot2021-11-29at22_21_44.png.9f79f4f09a834d7a163c2fb54c59be57.png  1725301387_Screenshot2021-11-29at22_22_08.png.9853a3796d8f9da2801a67c94ba17cef.png 615491076_Screenshot2021-11-29at22_22_49.png.ca6907b8aea851289069d0c2134d6a13.png

Another example is the positioning of a midfield trio in attack. A Mez/CM-a can step forward to the attack, his partner DLP-s can position and then the DM/BWM/DLP will also sit further back, but again it will be lop-sided with a gap in the pitch. Similar to the positions of Rodri, Cancelo, KDB in the right picture above.

Of course there are more instances in which it would be useful to have more control of player positioning than just this Man City example. Maybe you will want the ST to drop to a certain spot as two midfielders push forward past him, or for a winger to tuck to a certain place for a full-back to pass, or to control width in certain phases, control positions of midfielders within the attack so the spacing is correct.

You can do plenty within the current player roles/player instructions, but still there are some major gaps in what we can control. Managers don't tell their players 'Ok you're a centre-back with a stay wider instruction, you're an inverted wing-back with support, you're an inside forward who stays narrow' etc etc, they tell their players what spaces to occupy etc.

Here is the CM01-02 screen I am referring to. Surely if it was able to be implement 20 years ago it can be done now?
