  1. Every formation and style I've played is more direct than I want (except when I've tried playing route one styles, I guess). Several times per game (and that's just watching highlights; it's probably dozens of times per game if watching the full match), players will hit passes with their first touch or on the volley from back to front, just smashing the ball forward as far as they can. Midfielders frequently have periods where they watch the ball just sail over their head. Using the formation I brought over from '22, my pass numbers were down by like 30% per match. The other day, I scored a depressing goal -- opposition goal kick long to my centerback --> my centerback volleys it back to their centerbacks --> their centerback dwells on it for a bit and hits it long back to my centerbacks --> my centerback hits it long for my striker to run onto. Classic stuff to give Brian Clough an aneurysm.
  2. I mean, I question the idea of every player and staff member's contract automatically going into month-to-month rollover mode. And a lot of the inconsistencies and funky behaviors start with that.
  3. Hi Kyle, I understand that answer as it applies to Henri Maleka, who is on youth terms with his current team. But it shouldn't be 'poaching' to offer a contract to a player who isn't on one. Neither Lundquist or Augustsson are on contracts; both are on the automatic month-to-month rollovers after their real contracts expire. Signing those players isn't poaching, as they've failed to secure senior terms with their existing clubs. I understand a player not wanting to move from one second-division club in a minor nation to another, but surely a real contract > no contract?
  4. That's not a great answer in a sim. We're looking at a balance sheet. It's accountancy; 'believe what you want' shouldn't be in play here.
  5. There are three things you can do to improve finances. 1) Underspend your budgets. Penny saved is a penny earned. All that stuff. But don't compromise your ability to do #2. 2) Win stuff. Improve your reputation. Higher reputation means more sponsorship income. 3) is frankly the most effective way. Churn your squad. Buy young players, buy distressed assets, develop players. A £240m debt is four player sales, played correctly. Personally, no, I wouldn't buy Weghorst for that money. If I was focusing on improving finances, I wouldn't buy anyone older than like 25 because my entire goal would be to churn the squad for profit each year.
  6. Especially when it's one of the largest areas of expenditure and you as a manager can be judged on financial performance, an area where you have no control whatsoever beyond player/staff wages, where you're already working to a budget set by the board. Edit: Also, why is marketing spend lumped into 'Other' when Tax gets broken down into granular detail? Marketing spend would at least correlate to some vaguely football-related thingies, not that the game gives you any control at board level to make looking at the Finances screen a worthy use of time.
  7. Both of these bug reports are live; please add more saves and screenshots.
  8. This is definitely a thing and I encourage you to submit PKMs for it.
  9. Board interactions are so completely pointless I forget they exist. My favorites are the ones where they turn you down, but say they'll consider it if you put forward a compelling case, and then no matter which button you press they tell you to stop wasting their time and the dialogue ends. It's honestly the single worst feature I've ever seen in a video game. It's like the old Warcraft III custom maps where the first person to click on something lost. They're especially fun when you have six months on your contract and an A+ Unbelievable rating which you can't use as leverage at all.
  10. Which is an issue for players. It's not easy to diagnose problems when what the game shows you isn't the same as what has happened in the ME. I had one of those situations the other day and reported it as a bug. Is it? Who knows! An attacker played a diagonal through ball into the penalty area. My defender was running straight back and would have intercepted the pass. He stops running. The ball runs past him to an oncoming forward, who's made up about five yards and is now ahead. The defender starts running again as the attacker scores. What are the potential causes of that? Is it a miscommunication with the goalkeeper - did the defender think the keeper was going to sweep it up? Did he not see the pass (I mean, it's right in front of him so probably not, but I've also seen defenders try to head balls that are a dozen feet over their heads so I'm not convinced they have functional eyes)? He wasn't in low physical condition or extremely fatigued, so presumably it's not that he just couldn't continue running, but maybe that's what it was! Or is it just some weird match engine bug? I have no idea, and that means I don't know how to fix it. I'm struggling a lot in this version with 'how do I stop these players from doing things that they shouldn't be doing in the first place". Another thing I'm struggling with is how much of the game feels like it's outside my control, even when it should be. My current season feels pointless. I had a reasonable squad lacking top-end quality, I had £1600/week spare in the wage budget, which should have been enough to sign two serious improvements. Except my board limits me to £400/week maximum contracts. WHY. So now I've got... a bigger squad, because I can't afford any players who're improvements on what I have. I don't even know who those players would be, because my scouting recommendations empty out when contracts expire and I could actually go sign these guys. That's a shame, because I made the promotion semifinal last season and really should have been contending to win the league. Despite that, and despite bringing back the majority of the players from the previous season, I'm stuck with expectations of struggling to avoid relegation. The players hate any suggestion that they could do better (never mind finishing 5th and winning the first promotion playoff round). I can't even suggest anything higher than 'not being dragged into a relegation scrap'. And because those are the expectations that I'm locked into, through no input of my own, the whole game world is gaslighting me about results. Losing at home to the team in 19th? Gosh, well, no one gave you a chance so it's OK! NO! You almost got promoted last year! WHY DOES NO ONE REMEMBER THIS? IS MORBIUS M. MORBIUS MESSING WITH THE TIMELINE? IS THIS LOKI'S FAULT? What the hell is going on? It can't be a real thing on the sacred timeline that my first-choice striker forces his way to a team in a lower division "because he's impressed with their performance in the league", come on, no way. That's gotta be He-Who-Remains having a joke.
  11. But also -- what does Actual Playing Time: Youngster even mean? What's the difference between that and Backup, expressed in real terms? How are Younster/Hot Prospect/Breakthrough Prospect/Fringe Player/Backup even different in terms of playing time expectation?
  12. I have two players whose Actual Playing Time is Regular Starter. Their agreed playing time is Squad Player, their expectations are Squad Player, and they expects to play in the next match because they're concerned about playing time. Like what the hell, man. I have nine days left in my $1 month of Gamepass, and when those nine days are up I'm done with FM23. I've only been playing it to do all these damn bug reports, and it's been incredibly demoralizing watching them sit without acknowledgement.
  13. 60:34 -- As Mullins plays this through ball, Wilson is in perfect position to cut it out. But he slows down for some reason, letting the attacker make up several feet of distance. If he takes just a couple more steps at full speed, he's intercepted the pass without issue. He's facing the passer, so he has full vision of the situation the whole time. What's going on here? Vauxhall Motors v Boston Utd.pkm
  14. Here's a save showing something similar. Though it shows I'm in the Vanarama National League North, I've actually just been promoted to the Vanarama National as champions, with the second-highest points total in competition history. Not only am I behind several teams that're now two tiers below me, I recently renegotiated the club's main sponsorship deal and received less money, despite the renegotiation occurring after promotion. Save: Edward Parris - Vauxhall Motors - Reputation.fm
  15. Acceleration in particular seems very important. I'd certainly rather have physical monsters in defense than technical defenders, personally, but some of that is because physical monsters are so effective up front. At least in very low-league play (I'm a league below XaW) I refuse to use CDs shorter than 6'. If one of my CDs is slow, I'll compromise a bit to have the other one be fast(ish. 11 pace is fast at my level). These are my CDs in the Vanarama North: And their primary backup: So yeah. Big man/little man partnership, as best I can get it. Little bit of passing and vision is nice with how direct the ME is, but in tier 6 you kinda take what you can get.
  16. Update: I just uploaded a new save for another issue. Edward Parris - Vauxhall Motors - Wage Budget.fm In that save you can see several other players who have remained at their clubs on M2M contracts despite information otherwise. Pickward is still intending to explore options on his month to month despite another season ending.
  17. I am capped at £550/week for a star player, but I have £3420 spare wage budget. Why is the offering cap so low compared to the total wage cap? I can just about fit eleven max-wage star players under my total cap of £6k. This is kind of a problem, because the average wage for a first-team+ player in my league is pretty close to the max wage I can offer for a star player, meaning actual stars are priced way out of my means, even though I've got the money to meet their demands. Save: Edward Parris - Vauxhall Motors - Wage Budget.fm
  18. Also, I've had a C+ rating from the supporters throughout this save. It's never gone higher than that, despite now two titles, three promotions and three cup wins in four seasons.
  19. My board is also not very impressed that I've won the Integro Cup. In addition to the expectations mismatch, the board being keen to focus me on future challenges seems odd given that I'm out of contract in six weeks, as are nearly all of my players. Save: Integro Cup win.fm The save begins on 5/14. You'll need to advance to the 18th and win the final against Basford Utd to trigger the news event.
  20. Their audience is different, but they're a traditional yearly-release sports game company, making a yearly-release sports game with the ultra-predictable lifecycle of every other yearly-release sports game. They're more ethical than Take-2/2K Sports, but many of the problems are similar. In my season just concluded, the top team in the league averaged 107.5 headers per game; the bottom team averaged 82.5. Looking at a league with much higher technical levels, the team with the most headers averaged 64.5/game. Still too many, but a noticeable difference.
  21. Jack McKay (squad status: squad player) is unhappy (expected playing time: squad player) with his playing time (actual playing time: squad player). Apparently this lack of playing time (the expectation and reality are the same) has alienated him. This has been a problem for years. Save: Edward Parris - Vauxhall Motors - McKay.fm Save begins on 11/30. Don't start McKay in the game on December 1, but he can come on as a sub. The dialogue will trigger on December 4.
  22. Mark -- Using the computer you use to play FM, go here: https://oc.sigames.com/owncloud/index.php/s/Kzvhd0MdU3v4Nv4 Click on the central box, where it says "Click to upload files". By default on Windows, your save games will be in the Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2023\games folder. Find the save you want to upload and select it.
  23. 59:40 -- Kinsella tries to head a ball several feet over his head without jum ping, letting Taylor score. Vauxhall Motors v Hyde.pkm
