I suspect that in real life 99% of managers would bite their hand off for the job and just take the payoff it it didn't work out :D!

Haha - good point! Probably only get 60k or so in this instance though, due to the cheapskate wages, 1 year contract. Not sure it's worth gambling with my whole career trajectory over that much. But certainly food for thought...

Looks like a fun challenge! Yes, you will have to sell everyone and rely on kids, loans and cheap frees. You’ll probably get relegated and then sacked. But you might pull off a miracle. Save your game before applying then do both saves?

I don't know about 'fun'! Did a quick experiment - blindly selling everyone they have (or trying to) that was either worth anything or was on more than a couple of grand a week. Got the finances down to spending £132,333 p/w against a wage budget of £91,798 p/w, and there's hardly anyone left to play any games. Oh, and media prediction is finishing rock bottom by a million miles.

The game does a bad job of explaining the expectations in terms of results vs budget - would I be sacked at Xmas for being over the wage budget? How much over could I be? Anyway, it doesn't sound like much fun! I think realistically I wouldn't do it if I was a manager...

  3. I'm playing as Welling United manager on FM24 Console. I've just got them promoted to League 2, but have been offered the Sheffield Wednesday job. I was initially thrilled, as I am playing 'realistically' in respect of job offers - but then I saw the finances....

    • £370,810 Overall balance (though this will vanish pretty quickly)

    • £65,237,360 Net Debt

    • £103,863 transfer budget which, if I reduce all the way to zero gives me...

    • £47,065 p/w Wage budget. Which is much lower than....

    • £325,930 p/w committed spending (very much in red font)

Pretty sure this is saying I need to reduce the wage budget from £325k p/w to the same level that Oldham have in Vanarama, no? What am I supposed to do - sell everyone? Given that the club demand I 'work within a wage budget', aren't I just going to get sacked within months given that this is impossible, right?

(No wonder the club goals for the next five years are just 'avoid relegation' from the Championship!)

Quite hard to pass up a job at such a big club, but this looks like a hiding to nothing - unless I'm mistaken about how patient the board might be with the restructure....

Does not work in friendlies when all outfield player substituted and you still have a goalie that is not subbed. According to one referee I wrote with you do not have to put a goalie outfield, you can choose to continue play with 10 men on field. Now FM doesn't give that option. No "take off", put a previously subbed outfield player in or right click. The only option is to put the spare goalie in as outfield player to continue game. This needs a fix.

Still the case three games later in November 2023! Mad how some of these issues linger...

  5. I play console edition on PC via Xbox/Microsoft (but not Gamepass). I downloaded the game in advance of release day (though it remained locked) but am not sure I saw any 'release day update' and being on version '0.9.1062' feels like I might still be on a pre-release version of the game. Shouldn't it say 24.1.1 or at least 24.1.0?

Clicking 'check for updates' doesn't do anything. Can anyone advise please?

  6. Hi all,

Just into my second season now. Thinking it's time for a run on the title. But what's that I see? Haaland has 21 goals in his first 5 league matches of the season. That's flipping ridiculous and frankly there's not much point playing a game in which I have practically no chance of success due to Man City having a striker who is on course for (punches into calculator) 129 goals this season.

I know it's early days but still...

Anyway, here's my question: has anyone taken drastic measures (editor wise) to try to bring some realism back to this? I know I'm not the only one with a Super Haaland in their game. Would prefer not, but am tempted to give him a broken leg every year for the rest of his career haha!

  7. I think one area that the game needs to improve upon is making the footballing world feel more alive and therefore the story telling more immersive. For example, in FM17 I got Sheffield Wednesday to three Champions League finals in a row and lost them all - game didn't really care. In FM21, taking Sunderland from League 1 to the Champions League places the game made NOTHING out of the fact I'd got two back to back promotions and leap frogged local rivals Newcastle. This year, I noted in a blink and you miss it bit of news that Wayne Rooney had become the Everton manager. That's a fun and exciting development - if it happened in real life the sports news, papers and podcasts would be all over it, but there was barely a ripple in the waters of my FM game.

They've added that screen that plots out your achievements, but it doesn't really address what I'm talking about. Make more of the story SI, please!

You can't important tactics within the Console version.

    Thanks for replying.

Why is that? This function used to exist in Touch for PC? I just don’t get why it’s not possible to do (after a year of feedback that some players would like it) for the console version for PC when it’s basically the same game as Touch for PC was, and when it runs on the same machines and through GamePass like full fat does, on which this is possible. Very disappointing and sadly not in the least bit surprising (though not your fault of course).

Reminds me of all the little bugs I’d find and report for Touch on PC (I was even asked to test the game before release a couple of years back) only to find that not only would they not be fixed in-year, but they’d still be there in the next version a year later. Not quite the same thing but still…

This isn't currently supported I'm afraid as files are stored in the cloud. We will review the feedback though to see if there's anything that can be done in future, but that's not promising anything at this stage.

@Lucas Is there any chance that importing tactics files will be possible for Console for PC/Gamepass in a way that it wasn't in FM22 Xbox?

  11. As a lifelong PC user toying with the idea of getting a MacBook I wanted to see what FM looked like on the 2020 M1 MacBook Air's screen. So, having borrowed my partners, I loaded up the FM22 demo from Steam and had a go. It all looked nice and sharp until I got to a match. Despite having all graphics settings on 'high', and the the machine seemingly taking that in its stride as far as framerate goes, it didn't take long until I noticed that the graphics all looked a bit blurry - not as sharp as on my less powerful Windows laptop with graphics set to low/medium. I also notice what I perceived to be ghosting, particularly with regard to the ball movement i.e. it left a bit of a trail in its path. The other parts of the interface during the match looked totally fine - it was just the pitch, players etc.

I know that MacBooks have poor screen response times, which can be responsible for ghosting, but having read some detailed reviews on the machines - my Windows laptop has the same sort of response times and looks fine in that regard.

Then I found this post - suggesting the issue reared its head last year and, based on this experience, appears not to have been sorted. Would that be accurate?

  12. Hi all,

Long time Touch player here, being forced to contemplate playing 'full fat' because of the lack of import tactic option now that Touch has become Xbox version. Sigh.

Anyway, when I dip into the full fat game on my 14" laptop, some of the screens are so jam packed full of info - way more than on Touch/Xbox edition - that it literally makes my eye/brain ache after an hour or so. Even maxing out the zoom doesn't completely help.

I've never tried a custom skin before - but does anyone know of any good ones that somewhat declutter the interface and make it a bit easier on the eye?

I suppose I could just create a whole load of views that strip things down a bit on some screens, but I just wonder if there is a skin that has sort of done this already.

    Thanks!

I wonder if a 16inch laptop would suit you more, https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/laptops/new-inspiron-16-plus/spd/inspiron-16-7610-laptop/cn76107sc if you go for the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3050, 4 GB GDDR6 graphic card It’s £976 with code EARLY15

It might not be the dell XPS in terms of design but it’s still a beast of a device for half the price really.

Thanks mate. I have actually spotted that one too. You can even get it with a 3060 which might be nice. Just can’t quite get over my long term coveting of the XPS 15 though! Was it Currys today using Dr Benjy YouTube videos to imagine how FM would look on it 😂

  14. I currently have a 14", 16:9 screen on my laptop. I find I need to use the zoom at 125% to make the viewing comfortable. I don't have bad eyesight - it just gets a bit hard to look at when smaller. Even so, I find FM Touch (or now Xbox Edition for PC) fine, but full fat still feels like it needs a bigger screen as it seems to try to cram more info in.

I'm considering getting the new XPS 15 which is 15.6" at a 16:10 aspect ratio. I like the sound of 16:10 as it will mean websites look better, instead of having a banner ad at the top take up half the screen.

Will that, however, be big enough to make full fat FM a comfortable experience though, even at 125% zoom - given that although it will be a taller screen, it won't be quite as wide as a normal 16:9 15 incher? Can't see me getting a 17" just for FM!

Thoughts appreciated from those that use a similar size laptop.

  15. @right_winger My take is that if you are playing FM Xbox Edition (for PC) ie what is effectively FM Touch, 14” is fine. It’s what I’ve been doing for years. For the full game though, which I only dabble in, it just feels too small - even on 125% zoom.

Although the text size is the same (I think) the full game just has more info it wants to convey and it feels a bit hard to look at on such a small screen. I’m personally wondering to what extent it’s better on a 15.6” screen.

  16. Every year I think 'I'll play a first game with Chelsea' and then every year I check out the attributes and feel disappointed that the attribute seem like they belong to the previous season, rather than the new season thus far.

In this year's game, Chalobah is a rubbish reserve player who would never press a claim for a first team place, Christensen is still far too weak and timid, Mendy isn't good enough, Kovacic isn't good enough, Ruben Loftus Cheek would never make the cut (he's been one of our best players when he's played this season), Saul is a shoe in for a first team place (despite being a bench warmer IRL) and so on. In other words, it's like nothing that has happened since August is reflected in the attributes.

The data isn't locked until the end of October so I'm not sure why a few early season tweaks can't be made or, without meaning to sound too critical, made a bit more accurate so that if the AI picked a team, it would more closely resemble what is happening IRL.

    Hi

When I'm trying zooming in to 125% or even 110% ( as I can't see well ;) ) the skin become out of shape and I can't even see the 'confirm' button on the pref menu.

Since it's a burning issue for me as I can't play in low zoom % I have to find a solurion

    Someone have any?

Make sure you have your Windows resolution set to 100% and not also Zoomed in. If you - like me - usually have Windows zoomed in too, you need to revert to 100% to get the FM zoom functions to work properly.

  18. Hi experts!

Would like your advice on whether to go for an 8GB M1 MacBook Air or a 16GB one.

In the past - buying Intel laptops - I’ve always erred on the side of caution and got 16GB, but with talk of this ‘unified RAM’ being better or more efficient in some way, I’m thinking it’d be nice to save some cash.

I think the most intensive thing I would be doing would be playing Football Manager while running a browser on my monitor playing Netflix. I might dabble with video editing iPhone video in iMovie if I ever get round to it, but I’m hardly a ‘content creator’, so exporting times don’t matter to me at all.

Is 8GB plenty for an optimal FM experience? Thanks in advance.
