  1. So something like ______AF__TM______ WM__BBM__CMA__WM _______DLPS________ ____CD__CD__CD____ ? Against lower teams I expect to be able to liberate the DLP even more as a regista, but I always planned to have him there because I know from using 3-4-3s that the gap is an issue. I can also field the TM as a DLF, but I'd rather push up a higher line with my CMs/WMs getting forward, and let my two strikers stay up high. That's another thing I can tweak based on opposition, depending on whether I'm getting good crosses in or need a player dropping back to help the middle.
  2. Nice read. A lot of it is Football Manager catching up with football, but there are some bits and pieces there that were good to know about how it translates into the match engine. Like it being good to partner a ball playing defender with a central defender, so that simple possession is maintained - in one of my teams my quite technical centre backs were under pressure a bit, and I now think this was part of it. They're both up to making a killer pass out of defence, but one at a time might be a bit safer I wanted to ask about playing a midfield three in front of a back three. The team I've got at the moment is actually remarkably similar to the real life Juventus first XI, I basically need either a more well rounded wing back on one side or wide midfielder on the other to do a 5-3-2 or 3-5-2. I've got a ball playing defender at the back, and a deep lying playmaker in the DM position, with a couple of all-action CMs in front. Your advice for a three man midfield is written for a standard back four, but how much also applies to a three? With a four I'd either have the dlp defend with one CM attack and one support in whatever roles suited, or the dlp support with a defending CM, depending where I saw threats and opportunities. Do I still need a player providing dedicated midfield defensive cover, or is the supporting dlp in front of the three enough (he's a little less magic and considerably more solid than Pirlo). And what about the two CMs? Juventus in RL probably have two bbm, would that work alongside a dlp or would you suggest something else? I'm much more used to a 2CM 1AM midfield with back threes, so I'm a little uncertain how to make sure I'm screening my defence while still linking up to my two strikers. No AMs, and I'm happy enough with my squad not to look for one to change to a 3-4-1-2. Would the answer depend on whether I have wing backs in the D(RL) positions or wide midfielders in the M(RL), for that matter? That is one area I'll be strengthening in the transfer market.

  4. I had the opposite problem recently. Expected to outright win the (lower) league, but given the options "top half" or "promotion". Naturally I kept trying different attitudes of the promotion option, always having the conversation stop and the squad demoralised at my lack of ambition, with at least a third massively in the red. So fed up, I tried "top half". A squad member spoke up cautiously that they were expecting more ambition. The whole squad demotivated, but none massively so. And I got the option to say that I was glad to see their reactions, and that with that attitude we should expect promotion. Squad member says "that's more like it", I get the option "this is the reaction I was after all along". 22/23 players motivated, none unmotivated, several strongly motivated. So... try unusual options maybe?

  6. Swiss should give you French, German and Italian. I've noticed it's harder to get a job in 2013, but not unrealistically so. I've certainly been able to get jobs that I've realistically applied for, I just don't get spammed with invites I don't deserve. Whether the realism is fun is another matter entirely.

Sarcasm is almost always rude, that's the point of it You can do that; but you either need to find all the changes that are actual fixes and manually edit them into the .0 database, or live with a version of the game that hasn't got those fixes. For example I've reported in the data issues forum that Ivan Vicelich is (still, persisting from at least FM 2011) incorrectly listed as retired from internationals; hopefully that's fixed in the 14.1 database. If that was the only fix it wouldn't be an issue as I can and have edited it myself, but I'm sure there are a lot more like it that other people have spotted. I'd rather not have to choose between having all the straight up fixes, and having a correct start of season roster for most of the clubs I'm likely to play as. I'm already resigned to not having correct info for January season start divisions, and there aren't many I'd be managing in anyway.
  8. It's not out of date that Di Canio was managing Sunderland in July. It's plain false that Poyet was, and will always be so. Unfortunately I can understand the licensing issues around that, and around things like correct past results. Likewise the system and staffing requirements for creating the kind of complex database that is correct day by day for all the potential start dates. In a perfect world it would be like Europa Universalis with any date selectable and correct, but it ain't a perfect world. Europa Universalis has maybe 200 country tags in a few thousand provinces to get right, and while it's over 400 years not a lot changes - there aren't too many attributes either. FM has a few hundred thousand people, clubs and nations, with 10-100 attributes each, and would need 365 days. Not going to happen. By the way, have you done any editing? Unless you're unemployed, that kind of fix up could take weeks. I spent a couple of months on just my native New Zealand league trying to get it right for one arbitrary start date, before giving up. There's an awful lot of data there, which is also why it's too much to ask of SI to do it. About the closest we could get is applying the fixes only to the release database, sans situation changes. No need to be rude. It's quite understandable to want to start the, say, 2010 season in FM11 with Carrol at Newcastle and Torres at Liverpool and Suarez at Ajax. They were all key players at their clubs for half the season before the big money go round. Or the current season with Di Canio at Sunderland, waiting to see if it blows up in game as it did in RL. Shifting all that around completely changes the outlooks for the club involved. It's completely different to being the kind of masochist who has all leagues and all players on, making the game run so slowly everything is in real time regardless of whether you want it to be or not
  9. I know for an FM2011 edited wonderkid I had made, with very high pressure, temperament, influence, determination etc, he would feel the pressure if he was 18 but not if he was 20. Appointing him vice captain was fine at 18, IIRC. So if you're having them feel the pressure in the 20s, there must be some pretty strong linking to mental attributes.

  13. FM14.1.3 When browsing clubs prior to adding your manager to the game, if you go to squad/tactics/player the game will CTD. No mods or data files in use. Happens when looking at any team. Does not happen after adding your manager to the game, instead you get the correct page saying you can't set tactics for players at other clubs.
  14. I've played around with it for a bit and not found a way, so if there is one I'd be keen to know about it too. Any chance of adding the recommended CA from the IGE to the pre-game editor? Would make mass player creation much simpler to balance
