    A little update.

Im about halfway through putting the kits in for Level 9/10 Leagues.

I could have a playable version ready by a week on monday i think, it will not be the complete version but it would be totally playable and it would allow people to test it to see if everything is running good up to yet and to report any issues they notice while playing.

Exciting - thanks for your excellent and hark work on this, as always.

And still there is yet to be an argument that convinces me this is a decent idea, let alone "realistic".

Potential ability is the absolute best that someone can be at something.  There is no way for that to increase, but there is a way for that to decrease (hence why the game at least used to do that, if not still does) through a serious injury meaning they can never reach that mark.  That ceiling increasing is a logical absurdity.

Now take the main real-life example that people always bring up.  Jamie Vardy.  I'll preface this by saying that trying to draw parallels between real life and two numbers that are pretty much only there for functionality purposes is always going to lead to problems, but let's try anyway.  The level which he could reach has never changed through his whole life.  There was always a theoretical limit that could never be breached, but that was fairly high.  When he was in the lower leagues, that potential was still high, but his current ability clearly wasn't close to that point.  He got moves to bigger clubs, and he ended up playing seemingly outwith parameters.  When really his perceived ability was just increasing at a far higher rate than before.  He didn't breach his potential ability, his current ability just moved differently.

So in summary, dynamic potential ability is a largely nonsensical idea, particularly when it's being brought in to somehow give realism.  What definitely does need to be tweaked is how CA progresses towards PA.  You could definitely create a number of unique scenarios purely by modifying that, and achieve a lot of what dynamic PA seems to want to be.

So if I'm understanding your POV - Vardy always had a real-life PA of, say, 160, but hovered around the 110 mark for most of his career? Then suddenly at the age of 25 (or whatever) improved massively to reach that 160 mark?

I'm pretty sure this can't happen in FM. But otherwise I would agree it's a fair way of looking at it.

A little background information about Shirehampton. Despite sounding like a place lifted from the pages of Tolkein's Middle Earth it is a distinct village north west of Bristol, near Avonmouth. The football club was founded in 1952 and has a "illustrious" (not my words) local history. Honours include winning the Somerset County League in 2000 & 2011 and the Somerset County Cup in 2015. The club was admitted into the Western League Division One in 2022. It has a groundsharing agreement with Bristol Manor Farm at The Creek whilst improvements are being made to its Penpole Road ground. The literal translation of its motto "Firmitas In Profundum" is Firmness In Depth; ironic considering the thin squad and non-existent backroom staff!

The Chairman wants us to fight bravely against relegation but I told him to expect a mid table position to add a few more pennies to my wage budget. Thankfully the media prediction is 10th so we shall see....

As someone whose family grew up in Shirehampton and who has been to their ground many times in the past few years, I look forward to hearing more about it -- I have a few friends who play for teams in your division so always fun to see it mentioned online!

  4. I'm guessing it may have something to do with World Reputation?

Anecdotally, I recently started a save with Bristol City with the 'International Footballer' (or whatever it's called) background and upon promotion in 2025 I was offered the Valencia job. I suspect this wouldn't have happened if I had started with a lower pre-existing reputation. For reference, my home reputation is 8000 and world reputation is 5600.

I saw Liverpool lose two weeks ago. However, in FM2023, the lower-ranked team that I play as an away team is scarier than the higher-ranked team that comes to play as an away team comes to my home stadium.

Even Manchester City of the opposing team playing at my home stadium was easier than Nottingham Forest of the opposing team where I play as an away team.

Currently, in FM2023, the gap as an away team is larger than in the previous series.

I even saw FM2022 playing again. Because of the performance problem that I play as an away team,

Of course, it is good that FM2023 has become difficult, but the gap between home and away from the lower-ranked and higer-ranked teams does not seem to be balanced.

This certainly seems to be a problem.

I wonder if there was any intention to make it difficult to play as an away team in FM2023. And I wonder if SI Staff has any plans to improve their performance when playing as an away team.

That happened in real life too. Liverpool beat City and home 1-0 and lost to Forest away 1-0 a week later.

I use these sites to compare benchmark scores:

Above is a screenshot from the first site I mentioned.  The numbers after the cores/threads rating are the scores in various benchmarks, the higher number the better.

TDP stands for thermal design power or, depending who you ask, thermal design profile. The TDP number tells you the maximum heat a computer chip, such as a CPU or GPU, can use in watts. It also is often used as a basic indicator of power consumption.  Basically, the higher this is, the more load it will be able to withstand before it restricts the speed to stop the CPU from overheating.

Also, this isn't necessarily essential (as clock speed by itself doesn't necessarily mean a huge amount in the grand scheme of CPU performance, it is just one of many things), but FM22's specs suggest a minimum clock speed of 1.8GHz as a base - where the base clock speed is below this, like it is on the i5-1035G7, I will steer clear of recommending these.  Whilst I don't doubt it will run FM22, as the base clock speed is that much lower, you may possibly see processing becoming very slow under load, hence my caution with these.

In terms of wanting a 15.6" screen, here's one with the same CPU for £449.00: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/huawei-matebook-d-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-grey-10230118.html

This is super useful - thanks so much for your help!

    I'd avoid that one.

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-ideapad-3i-14-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-blue-10228900.html This one has the newer i5 for the same price which has a fairly significant performance increase.

Thanks mate. I'd prefer the 15.6" screen, but if the performance would be insufficient, no point going for it.

Can I ask, going forward, how I would go about assessing the performance differences? (I know absolute basics). I see the one you linked has the i5-1135G7 processor which I'm assuming is preferable - how would I go about comparing processors in the future?

  8. Hi all.

    How does this look?

    https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-3-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-black-10224403.html

I would be looking to run the game in 2D mode only, with a pretty large database of players (I tend to use most/all players loaded but only a few countries/leagues).

My budget would be around £400 and to purchase from Currys is ideal as I have some vouchers to spend there :p

Aside from FM it would be used for general university work/Excel/Youtube/Netflix. Nothing overly taxing.

    Thanks!

Just wanted to say - very impressed with the changes made to Brighton since the beta (to Lamptey and Bissouma especially). Thanks for taking our comments into consideration @Simon Tipple

Are you able to please send a screenshot? This is him in my save - IIRC his stats appear identical to the beta, and seem to be thoroughly harsh on his ability as a player. Thanks :)

  10. Hi. First of all congrats on such a brilliant save - I've really enjoyed reading it and what a result for you beating PSG by 1 point!

I have a quick question - on your player profile screen you have a tab for asking price, CA, PA etc. - how do you get this? Specifically the asking price, I'm interested in what exactly that means.

    Thanks :)
