  1. - How do you add the club badges to your posts? They make the updates look really good!

You need to find the image URL of the club logo. You can look for the team on wikipedia, then right-click on the logo. It should say something like "Open Image in New Tab", you do that and copy the link on top of the new tab. Then you add it in your update like this:

It will look something like this:

Nice to see this thread so active again with so many new challengers. Good luck to everyone!

  2. threelions Congratulations on the title in Northern Ireland and well done on your first season in China! Winning the Chinese Super League could well help you getting a job in Korea, it did for me. But if you stay with Shanggang, good luck. Will be interesting to see what you can do in the ACL with a Chinese team.

TheEarl Why did you decide to leave Fenerbahce? I think your chances to win the league in your second season would have been good after a 3rd place finish. Anyway, good luck with Milan! Hopefully you can bring them back to old glory. Also interesting how you can get the France job while it seems to be tough for you to get big club jobs. Hopefully managing France will give a boost to your reputation.

Kaiser Welcome back to the challenge. Can't remember anyone managing in Scandinavia, this is going to be interesting. Good luck!

blackdevil Congratulations on moving on to Newcastle. I think you're the third or fourth challenger to manage Newcastle. Hopefully you'll be as succesful as those before you.

  3. Walter White retires with World Cup Title

    Egd4iVF.jpg

The legendary France manager announced his plan to retire from football at a press conference following the World Cup final. The 65 year old started his manager career in 2014 in China when he was upgraded from youth player to manager of the 1st team at Guizhou Renhe, aged 21. In his first season he avoided relegation, then he went on to win the Chinese FA Cup in 2015 and 2016 and finally the Chinese Super League 2016. White then left China and took over Chunnam Dragons in the South Korean K-League Classic. He didn't manage to win the league with Chunnam, but he won his first continental title in 2017, when his team won the Asian Champions League. After one season, White left Chunnam for Jeonbuk and in his first season he won the triple: K-League, Korean Cup and Asian Champions League again.

In 2018, Walter White took his first international job when he became manager of the South Korean national team. He was sacked after 6 months and left Asia for Africa. In 2019 he took over Kaizer Chiefs and Cameroon and had three very succesful years on the continent. With Kaizer Chiefs he became South African champions twice, won the African Champions League twice and collected four other titles. With Cameroon he won the African Cup of Nations in 2021 and reached the 3rd place at the 2022 World Cup.

In March 2022, White got his first job at a European top team. He took over Dortmund 10 games before the end of the season in 9th and managed to finish the season in 3rd to qualify for the Champions League. In his second season, he won the Bundesliga and the Europa League. Then he took over Real Madrid and he won La Liga and the Spanish Cup in his year with Madrid. During that time he also started his first spell with the French national team, a team he would go on to manage three times over his career. After a year with Ajax where he won the Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup, White left Europe and moved to South America.

Walter White took over Boca Juniors in 2025 and stayed for two years. In these two years he won 10 titles, including the Argentine Premier Division, the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana and the Club World Championship. He also managed Uruguay for a year and took them to the final of the Copa América.

In 2027, Walter came back to Europe when he was appointed Arsenal manager. He won the Premier League and two cup competitions before he left for Juventus. He stayed in Italy for two years and won the Serie A and the Italian Cup. Then he moved to America again, this time he took over New York City FC and the Mexican national team. With NYCFC he won the MLS and the North American Champions League. With Mexico he won the Gold Cup 2033 and almost sensationally won the Copa América with the Mexican U23, but was stopped by Brazil in penalties in the final.

In spring 2033 he went back to Europe to take over Man City as caretaker manager for two months. He used this job to get back into European football. In summer 2033 he took over Paris St-Germain and finally won his biggest club title, the European Champions League. With PSG he also won the Ligue 1, the French League Cup and the Club World Championship. After that, he only managed national teams, except for a short spell at Grasshopper Club Zürich, where he was in charge for two months in 2036 and won the Swiss Cup.

In 2040, Walter White won the European Championship with England, three years later he added an Asian Nations Cup with South Korea. In 2044 he took over the French national team for a second time and won the Confederations Cup 2045. Then he was unemployed for two years before he was reappointed Brazil manager. With Brazil he won the Copa América in 2050.

In 2054, Walter White took over France a third time. And in his four years with the team, he won the European Championship 2056, the Confederations Cup 2057 and the World Cup 2058 before he decided to end his career.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We did it! After 44 years, in my sixth attempt at the World Cup it finally happened. The longer the tournament went on the more confident I became that this was our time. We started off with three wins in the group stage (7-1 against Czech Republic, 5-0 against Honduras and 2-0 against Uruguay), then we beat Spain 2-0 in the 2nd Round, and all around us our biggest rivals went out of the tournament before meeting us. Argentina, Brazil, Italy and Holland were out in the 2nd Round.

In the Quarter Final we met Germany. I've rarely seen a more one sided game in a WC QF, we were so much better. But even though we had more than 10 shots on target, 60% possesion, 10 corners and hit the crossbar twice, we were down 0-1 by half time. But I was sure we would make it. And indeed, the equaliser came in minute 52. But we didn't manage to score a second time and had to go to extra time. German keeper Sokolov had an incredible game. Still, in extra time we finally managed to score, and in the end we won 4-1. 59-4 shots, 22-4 on target, 59% possession, 23-2 corners: It was a deserved win. Meanwhile Portugal, England and Mexico crashed out, and it was us, Switzerland, Nigeria and Croatia in the semi finals.

We beat Croatia 5-1 and met Nigeria in the final, the first African team in history to ever reach a World Cup final. They had beaten Belgium, Brazil, England and Switzerland on their way to the final, but they were no match for us. The game was decided after 20 minutes. In the end, we won 6-0 to grab our fifth World Cup and my 32nd and final title for this challenge!

It has been a crazy journey. Having to wait all these years for the final titles after I had already finished the club side of the competition in 2034 (faster than anyone else so far ;)) was annoying. But it showed me how difficult it is to have success in this game if you rely only on your tactics and can't give yourself an advantage with good scouting and squad building. It also showed how far I am from actually being good in this game, and how much I hate cup competitions

Thanks to everyone for making this challenge so fun, for your encouragement and for following my progress. Good luck to everyone still doing this challenge. I will stick around and try to keep posting and commenting in this thread, even though I will not do the challenge again in FM16.

  4. GwilymJJames Well done on avoiding relegation, good luck next season.

blackdevil Nice one, promotion and straight to Europe, well done. Greece is an interesting league. I once managed there for one season in an older FM. I was relegated. Don't remember which club though. ;)

threelions Congratulations on your first title!

vike I progressed until right before the World Cup but didn't find the time to play the WC yet. I'm also a bit scared

    Warro Welcome to the challenge

  5. mihc - How gutting. I hope you win next time. You're going to scare people off this challenge. It's weird to think of all the nations that you haven't managed; Spain, Holland, Italy and as you'gve mentioned Argentina have no love for you. I'm not sure anybody has managed italy. Maybe not. All those other nations have been managed by at least 1 of us who's completed. . Anyway, given your success with Boca, it is a bit weird that argentina have turned you down in the past. Of course some nations do have biases against foreign managers, including one or more of the above (I just checked), but I'm not going to say which ones as that's kind of spoilerish.

I don't hope so. But you're right, it has grown quiet here. So everyone who doesn't want to start this challenge anymore because of me: I had a lot of fun with the club part of the challenge. International management isn't for me, but that doesn't mean you're not going to enjoy it either. Just look at the people who finished this already ;)

Now that I don't have to win the Copa América anymore there really isn't any reason to take over Argentina. Closest they ever came to WC success in my save was two third places in 2018 and 2042. Italy has never been great either. Holland isn't even a top nation anymore in my save. I wouldn't rate them higher than Switzerland or Portugal.

  6. mayihavecookie's EURO 2056 Report

    170px-FFF.svg.png

    Games 2055 | Games 2056 | Profile

We had a good campaign in the EURO Qualifiers and made it to the Semi Finals of the Nations League. There we were beaten 0-1 by England.

The European Championship was ridiculous. We lost our first game 2-3 (against England again), then beat Hungary 7-1 and Serbia 8-1. In the Second Round we met Germany and beat them 4-1. Next was a 4-0 against Turkey followed by an 8-2 against Belgium. We ended the tournament with a 3-1 win against Spain to become European Champions 2056. We scored a total of 36 goals and conceded 9

We are playing well. I decided to go back to the attacking style that was responsible for most of my success in this career. I have tried to play a different kind of football lately but I didn't have the success I hoped for in the last 20 years, so I'm back to what I'm comfortable with. Only thing that worries me a bit are the two defeats against England.

Now I'll have to survive the Confederations Cup once again and then I'll have another go at the World Cup.

    Brazil - World Cup 2054

Haha, well no. I was lucky enough to be allowed to continue until the World Cup after we played really bad in the Confederations Cup. We went out in the Semi Final against Ivory Coast and then lost 4-5 in penalties against France to finish 4th. My Job Security went down to Insecure, but the board allowed me to continue my work. But I knew we would need a miracle in the World Cup after that performance.

I'm writing this update from work so I don't have the game open, but I think we played Tunisia, Belgium and Mexico in the group stage. We lost against Mexico but beat the other two to finish 2nd in the group. In the First Knockout Round we met Argentina, which was a good thing as we have won all our games against them so far (2 or 3 times in the Superclasico, twice in the WC Qualifiers and once in the Copa América). We won 2-1 and qualified for the Quarter Final. There it was England who beat us 1-3 after we had a 1-0 lead at half time.

So I was sacked once again. Really upset about our performance. I still feel like we had a strong team. We just weren't dangerous enough going forward. I already had a lack of strong strikers, but then two players were injured for the tournament and I had to take two young forwards with me who hadn't scored a single goal for Brazil so far. I was stubborn to keep playing a 4-4-2 even though I didn't have the forwards I needed. Should have gone for a different tactical approach.

France had a terrible tournament and went out in QF as well, so they sacked their manager. That means I am back for a third spell with France. Not really sure how strong they still are. They won the World Cup four years ago but played bad at the EURO 2052 and now had an even worse World Cup. Let's hope for the best.

  8. TheEarl & Sankalan: I hope so. If I can't win it with Brazil I might never do. I have some very strong defensive players and a world class goalkeeper, much better than what I had with France and England. Most of them will be 32-34 when the World Cup comes, but I feel like we have some talented youngsters as well. And they still have two years to develop now. The only problem at the moment is the lack of forwards. We heavily depend on a 33 year old striker that might already be retired by 2054. If one or two strong young forwards appear in my National Pool until then, I have a good feeling about this.

Vikeologist: Thank you. I have put so many more hours in this than I would have imagined, back when I won that last club trophy with PSG 20 years ago. I look forward to some time off the game once I'm finished.

Sherwinriga: I'm sure I will have to beat France if I am to win the World Cup. Don't think someone else will do the dirty work for us. Likely we'll also meet them once before that, in the Confederations Cup 2053.

  9. Tough luck, maybe. It's probably more about my bad manager skills than luck... :) So close yet so far, you're right about that. Though this one has been easy enough:

    mayihavecookie's Copa América 2051 Report

    150px-Logo_Confederacao_Brasileira_de_Futebol.svg.png

    Brazil - Copa América

Superclasico | Games | Copa América

For some reason I wasn't able to play any friendlies this year, only the two before the Copa América. Might be a bug, but it also meant I was able to finish this season very quickly. My first game was the Superclasico de las Américas 2050 where we beat Argentina 2-0.

After that, we didn't play a game for eight months. Only 12 days before the Copa América, we played our first friendly against Ivory Coast. But somehow two third of my squad was marked as "Unavailable" and I had to holiday for one day because I didn't have 11 players. On the 12th of June 2051 we played our last friendly before the tournament, and we beat USA 2-0.

So I went into the Copa América having played just two games, not knowing the players in my squad at all. I just had to hope for the best. In the Group Stage we beat Chile 2-0, Uruguay 4-0 and Ecuador 1-0. In the Quarter Final we met Colombia and we beat them 2-1 with some luck.

Next was Argentina, and we managed to beat them 3-0. Sound like a clear thing, but it wasn't. Argentina was much better in the first half and would have deserved a lead by half time. Instead, we went up 1-0 after 55 minutes. Then we just defended with everything we had, and in the final minutes of the game we scored two more goals to a 3-0 result.

In the end it was a piece of cake. We met Ecuador again in the final. We were 2-0 up at half time. Right after the break, Ecuador scored the 2-1 due to a mistake by my goalkeeper. But then we turned up a level and scored some more goals. We beat Ecuador 7-1 and won the Copa América 2051.

Just one trophy to go, yet it's the biggest one, the World Cup. Please just let it be over!

  10. mayihavecookie's EURO 2048 Report

    170px-FFF.svg.png

I knew it was going to be tough to make it through to the next World Cup. I was sacked after two years, thanks to a Quarter Final out in the European Championship 2048.

We started well enough with two wins against Moldova and Bulgaria, but lost 0-1 to Holland which meant we were only second in our group. So we met Italy in the 2nd Round, but they didn't give us any problems. We beat them 2-1 and qualified for the Quarter Final. There we wet Portugal, and by half time we were down 0-2. We managed to come back and equalised, but Portugal took the lead again with the 2-3. We equalised once more in injury time, and were lucky to go to extra time. No team scored anymore, so we went to penalties. And once again we lost. One of my players hit the post, while Portugal scored on all five attempts. We were out in the Quarter Final, and I was sacked.

So my second attempt at France was over after four years with a World Cup Final and Confederations Cup win. Sadly we won the wrong tournament. I holidayed for two years, until Brazil sacked their manager after the World Cup 2050 and let me take over. Of course France won the World Cup in penalties against Spain.

  11. T&TD Well done on finishing China and South Africa. Having won the African Champions League you should know be able to get top jobs in the other continents as well, except for Europe maybe. Looking forward to hear where you're heading next.

mihc - Congrats on the Asian Cup. I think that's a big win, particularly if you don't have many asian nations managable in your save. Nearly there. Are you holidaying between fixtures? Do you enjoy just being an international manager and international management in general?

vike Yes it is, I'm very happy with that win. Would have been a pain in the ass to come back later. South Korea has been the only manageable Asian team in my save for a very long time now. And yes, I'm playing two games, then holiday to the next squad selection. I only have three leagues loaded now, so it normally doesn't take a long time.

Am I enjoying international management? I couldn't say that. But it's definitely become more enjoyable since I don't have to do club and international management at the same time anymore. Still, it can be annoying having to draft replacements into the squad after injuries all the time and just generally having to select a new squad every two games. I'm also much much better at playing leagues than cup competitions. I'm sure I would have finished the international part decades ago if all the competitions were leagues instead of cups :) But so would everyone else I guess.

France - Confedearions & World Cup

    Games 2044 | Games 2045 | Games 2046 | Confederations Cup

Yes TheEarl, I would have definitely gone for Argentina or Brazil if I had a chance. But Argentina declined me once again (Has anyone ever managed them? I'm sure at this point I could get any job I applied for in this save, and I even have two succesful years with Boca in my CV, yet Argentina always prefer lesser known Argentinian managers) and Brazil is having some success at the moment, so that job won't come up for a while.

So I took over France after they sacked their insanely succesful manager of 18 years, Yohan Cabaye, in reaction to their 2nd Rnd out at the EURO 2044. First we played in the Nations League in a group with Cyprus and England. We couldn't beat England (1-1 away and 1-2 at home), so I still won't be able to add this (not counting) trophy to the list.

2045 was a Confederations Cup year once again. We started with a 1-2 defeat against Mexico, but still qualified for the semi final with two wins against Cameroon and Australia.

In the semi final we met Italy and it was a crazy game. We were down 0-1 after 11 minutes, but we turned it around with two fast goals in minutes 26 and 27. Italy equalised after 40 minutes and in injury time they even scored the 2-3, but the first half was not over yet. We scored the 3-3 after 47 minutes. In second half it was Italy again who had the better start. They scored the 3-4 after 54 minutes, but in a game like that you don't just give up. We actually equalised once more after 75 minutes and in minute 94 we even got the lucky 5-4. We won and qualified for the final against Brazil.

This was a much less interesting game. Brazil played a 3-5-2 that was no use against our 4-4-2 that exploits the flanks. We didn't leave them a chance and won 3-1, to become Confederations Cup Champions for the second time in my career. This was France's third consecutive Confed Cup win after 2037 and 2041.

We qualified for the World Cup 2046 from a group with Scotland, Finland, Sweden and Israel. We got 24 points from 8 games with a goal difference of 31-1.

In the World Cup we were drawn in a very easy group. We beat Iran 3-0, Wales 6-1 and South Africa 3-1 and qualified for the 2nd Round. There we beat Holland 2-0. Next was Italy, and in a game that was the complete opposite of our encounter in the Confederations Cup, we beat them 1-0. In the Semi Final we met Portugal, an easy game that we won 2-1.

So we were in the final, with a chance to get a third consecutive World Cup as well (which of course would have been a record). Brazil was the opponent, just like a year before in the Confed Cup. They played the same 3-5-2 again, so I was very optimistic about our chances. We went up 2-0 after 25 minutes, but Brazil reacted immediately and came back to 2-1. This was the half time result. In the second half, Brazil suddenly were the better team. They equalised after 52 minutes and got stronger and stronger. My hopes for a lucky goal or a penalty shootout were shattered when Brazil scored from a corner to go up 3-2. We tried everything to equalise, but when my centre back went off with two yellow cards in 5 minutes, it was over. We lost the final of the World Cup 2-3 and missed a chance to set a record for eternity. I missed a chance to get my second to last title and will need some more years to finish the challenge.

I wasn't sacked. The board was pleased with reaching the final, and I decided to have another go with France. To lose the final after a 2-0 lead is really disappointing, and I'm looking to take revenge next time. I'm very annoyed that I have to stay for four more years. Especially as it's not sure at all that I will survive those four years with a European Championship and possibly another Confederations Cup without being sacked. Not to mention it won't be easier to win the World Cup in four years.

South Korea - Asian Nations Cup

Games | Asian Cup | Manager Profile

Just like I had hoped, South Korea sacked their manager after they went out of the 2042 World Cup with only one point in the group stage. I was given a second chance 23 years after my first attempt that ended with a defeat against Oman in the Quarter Final of the Asian Cup.

I feel like the team I took over was worse than the one I had last time. Back then, it was my tactical mistakes and maybe a bit of bad luck that cost us the tournament. Now, the question was if the South Korean players are good enough to reach our goals. South Korea has never won the Asian Cup since 1960. Saudi Arabia has been the dominant team for the last twenty years, having won the tournament in four of their last five attempts. The other winners since 2015 have been Japan, China and Oman. South Korea has never done better than 3rd place (2031 and 2039). Their biggest success however has been a sensational 2nd place in the World Cup 2043, nine years ago.

We played nine friendlies in the autumn of 2042, with mixed success. When the Asian Cup started on the 3rd of January 2043, I felt like I had found my team, but we would need some luck to win the tournament. We did well in the group stage, beating China (4-2), Jordan (2-0) and Thailand (4-2 again), but I struggled in international management long enough to now that this didn't mean anything. The injuries have been cruel. We lost one or two players in every game and at least one more in training building up to the next game. When the 2nd Round against Myanmar came, 6 of my 22 players were out with injuries.

We still beat Myanmar 3-0 and went to the Quarter Final were we met Iran. 3-0 again. Saudi Arabia lost against Lebanon, and now I knew we had a chance to win. But the injuries didn't want to stop, and before the Semi Final against Japan I had 13 players left. The game was nice enough to generate two grey players to help me out. A goalkeeper (thank you very much, I still had both my goalkeepers available at that point), and a left back that was stronger than those I took to the tournament with me. This is what my team looked like going into the Semi Final against Japan.

But those 13 brave players fought brilliantly and completely destroyed Japan. We won 6-1 and qualified for the final against China. We beat them 4-2 in the group stage, and now it was even less stressful. We were up by half time and decided the game with the second goal after 60 minutes. We beat China 2-0 to win the Asian Nations Cup for the first time in 83 years.

I resigned after the tournament and holidayed until summer when the Copa America took place. Brazil won, so the job I hoped for didn't come up. Instead Argentina sacked their manager and I applied, but was turned down for what must have been the 5th time.

So I holidayed for another year, and after the EURO 2044 France sacked Yohan Cabaye after 18 successful years. They had won 2 World Cups, 2 EUROs and 2 Confederations Cups with him, but a 2nd Round out at the European Championship against Spain was enough to have him sacked. Even though they are declining and their golden years might be over, I think this is the team that gives me the best chance to finally win the World Cup in my fourth attempt. But first I have to survive the Confederations Cup.

England - Nations League, Confederations Cup and World Cup

    Games 2040 | Games 2041 | Games 2042 | Manager Profile

Only two months after the EURO 2040 we met France again in the European Nations League.

We only played 0-0 in the away game, but at home we won 4-0. When our win at the EURO was a first step, this was a clear sign that we were about to take France's place as the best team in the world.

We beat Ukraine as well (2-1 and 3-0) and were through to the semi finals. There we didn't leave Belgium a chance and we beat them 3-0.

In the Final we met Spain. A team that lost their place at the top of Europe. At the European Championship they were out in the group stage with only on point, with defeats against Cyprus and Ukraine. But now they had something to prove. We completely missed the first 30 minutes of the game and were down 0-3 at half time. In the second half we were the better team, but could only score twice. 2-3 was the final score and we lost in the final of the Nations League.

Two weeks later, on the 1st of July 2041, the Confederations Cup started (or the Don't-Get-Sacked-Cup, like vike once called it). I didn't get sacked. We dominated our group with Chile (3-0), New Zealand (5-0) and Saudi-Arabia (4-1). In the other group Germany and France went on to the semi finals. We met Germany first and we beat them 3-0. So we got our next chance to beat France. But it wasn't to be. Charles Quaye retired from international football, but they had other strong strikers now. It was the 22 year old David Six who scored their only goal of the game. We lost 0-1 in the final of the Confederations Cup and France proved that they are still there at the top of international football.

We qualified for the World Cup with 8 wins from 8 games with 27-0 goals in a group with Norway, Iceland, Czech Republic and Albania. In the friendlies before the World Cup we lost 1-2 against Portugal but beat my ex team Cameroon 8-0. I was positive we would be able to go far in the tournament.

We had a perfect start with three wins in the group stage against Italy (5-2), China (4-0) and Nigeria (3-1). Next was Germany, and once again we beat them. With a 2-0 we were through to the Quarter Finals. We met Portugal, the team that beat us before the tournament. And we struggled from the first minute. The Portuguese won almost every duel and the fast direct passing game that normally made us so strong just resulted in a lot of long balls that went straight to the opponent. They scored their first goal of the game just before half time. For the whole second half we were running against the Portuguese defense, but they were just too strong. When I went all in and played full risk, we conceded two more goals to a 0-3 end result. We went out of the World Cup in the Quarter Final once again and had to deal with another big disappointment.

Portugal went out against France in the Semi Final, and France won the World Cup for the second time in a row with a 3-2 in extra time against Italy.

I resigned after the World Cup and waited for a chance to take over either South Korea, Brazil or Argentina to go get one of the two remaining continental competitions. Both the Copa America and Asian Cup would be played in 2043.

    England - European Championship

    Games | Profile

I wrote my last update after my quarter final out in the EURO 2036 with England. I was unemployed for two years after that. Then I was reappointed England manager after they went out in the Quarter Final of the World Cup 2038.

I now had a much younger and more talented squad than before. And I changed to a tactic that was just as good going forward but didn't leak as many goals as the 4-4-2 I used in my last spell with England. We had an easy group in the EURO Qualifiers, and we played really well. Won all our games except for one draw away to Switzerland. We finally put Switzerland down three points and secured our first place with a 5-0 home win in the second to last game of the campaign.

In the group stage we beat Romania (6-2), Switzerland (1-0) and Holland (4-2) and we played some wonderful football. We struggled for a moment in the 2nd Round against Portugal, but went up 1-0 just before half time and held on to it until the final minutes, before we scored two more goals to a 3-0 win.

In the Quarter Final we met Italy again, just like 4 years ago when they beat us 1-0 with a penalty in extra time. This time we were the stronger team and we easily beat them 4-2.

In the semi final we met France. And they have been by far the best team in the world in the last few years (well, since I left them back in 2024 to be honest). They went into this tournament with the confidence of having won three big trophies in the last four years, the EURO 2036, the Confederations Cup 2037 and the World Cup 2038. But I've seen signs of their decline. Their best player by far, the Zlatan Ibrahimovic of the 2030s, a player called Charles Quaye, was now 36. He had his first game for the French national team at the EURO 2024 when I was their manager. At that time he still played for PSG Reserves, but he was already my best striker. Since then he won the Ballon d'Or and the European Golden Shoe several times and leaded the PSG and France team to many titles. He was vital for my PSG team that won the Champions League in 2034. But now he was old, and this was to be his last big tournament.

We had the better start and were up 2-0 after half an hour, but France pulled one back right before half time, and five minutes into the second half they equalised. After that, it was an even game with chances for both teams, but with the luckier end for us. We won the game 3-2 thanks to a header in minute 88 by my young star striker Leeroy Dixon.

In the final we were supposed to meet Germany. Except we didn't, because somehow they lost 0-1 to Switzerland. So we met Switzerland for the sixth time in two years after two wins in the Nations League, a win and a draw in the EURO Qualifiers and a win in the EURO group stage. We were never going to lose that one. And they didn't stand a chance in their first European Championship Final. We beat them 3-1 to become European Champions 2040.

    England - European Championship

    Games

I took over the England national team after their Group Stage out at the World Cup 2034. England is still one of the better teams in Europe, maybe behind France and Germany. So I hoped we had a chance at the European Championship 2036.

The two years before the EURO went okay. We won all the games in our EURO Qualifications Group. In the Nations League we finished 2nd in our group with Spain and Holland.

We won our three group games against Belgium (2-0), Cyprus (5-1) and Romania (3-0). In the 1st Knockout Round we met Scotland, and we struggled. Scotland played a strange formation with 5 players in the centre, 1 DM, 3 CMs and 1 AM. We didn't manage to get any possession and never really had a chance to score. After 80 minutes we gave away a penalty and went down 0-1. We went full risk to try and equalise. I even put one of centre backs in the second forward slot as I already used all three substitutions due to injuries. And somehow, after 96 minutes we managed to score from a corner. So we were through to extra time, where we scored two more goals to a 3-1 win.

Next we met Italy, and the game went very similar to the last one. We didn't manage to break down the ultra defensive Italian team and had to go to extra time again. And again we made it even harder for ourselves by giving away a penalty. This time we couldn't recover from the 0-1 after 117 minutes.

We went out in the Quarter Final and I resigned before I was sacked.

  17. Thank you vikeologist for your commitment to the UFMC. It is a small thing that hopefully adds something to challenge. Hopefully it's not too much work to keep it updated.

Sankalan, when did you start this challenge again, like a week ago? You'll be finished by end of february if you continue like that.

I have a small update: I took over Grasshopper Club Zürich (the team I support in real life and the team with which I will start an FM16 save once I'm done with this challenge) in April 2036 to try and get a national cup win in a tenth nation.

And we did it. I only had to play two games in the tournament. In the semi final we beat St. Gallen (who won the league) 3-1, and in the final we played against Basel and beat them 2-1. I also played around ten league games, but here we didn't do so well. I took over in 4th place and finished the season in 5th. Don't care. Won my eleventh cup title in my tenth nation and am now definitely finished with the club side of things.

To finish my career with the club I support in real life has been a plan for a while now, and it's nice that it worked out. I also had the Portuguese league loaded as well as the Bundesliga, where I had unfinished buisness.

I'm also managing the English national team at the moment and will take them to the EURO 2036 now, so I hope I'll be back with good news soon.

  18. vikeologist i will definitely continue but actually i haven't played since my last update because i'm currently in thebfinal stagesnof studying for my exams. I would back the idea of a leaderboard. Trying to catch up with you was one of the things that motivated me to try and progress fast in the challenge. In my opinion, it's easy to start this challenge (at least if the first landmarks don't take too long to achieve), but after maybe one third it starts to drag on until you really get close to finishing. Maybe a leaderboard would help people to stay focused. We've seen a lot of players start this pretty well and then never heard of them again. Was it pug who won the cl with newcastle after like three seasons? Come back man ;)

Also, I couldn't care less about people who cheat. If someone has to lie on the internet about achievements in a computer game, i feel very sorry for them. And there's still the option of asking for screenshots like sankalan suggested.

sankalan great progress, you're going through the seasons insanely fast. Interesting to see you trying a different approach than most by winnig all the continental competitions first.

Btw vike, what does "pretentious" mean? Dictionary doesn't help..

I took over the best team in Europe and did what I had to do: Win everything.

I only had to do some minor changes in the summer transfer window. I brought in two young players who came through Arsenals youth team back when I managed them. An AML and a DL. I also bought a DR. That seems to be the first thing I do at any new club, buy new fullbacks.

We really dominated the league and soon had a comfortable lead. We drew one game at home against Nancy-Lorraine, then won everything else just until the 30th game, when we had the chance to win the league in Monaco. That was when we lost our first game, so we only secured the title one week later, with 7 games to go. We actually started to lose some games after that, which made me a bit nervous about the Champions League. Monaco beat us again in the Semi Final of the French Cup, when they scored the 2-1 in extra time.

We won the league without any problems with 104 points from 38 games, scoring 92 goals and conceding 14. We also won the Coupe de la Ligue with a 3-0 against Lyon in the final .

In the Champions League, we finished first with 16 points in our group with Zenit, Barcelona and Red Bull Salzburg. In the first knockout round we beat Sevilla 3-0 away and then 8-0 at home. In the quarter final we beat Manchester United 4-0 at home and lost 2-3 away. Next was Arsenal, and this was a really close match, because my two strikers were injured. Without my star player and his backup, we needed some luck. And somehow we managed to steal a 1-1 draw in the away game and then beat them 3-0 at home.

So for the first time in my career, I made it to the final of the Champions League! We met Real Madrid in a reissue of last years final (Conte's PSG won 3-1 last year). We started better, but missed all our chances in the first half. But right after half time we went up 1-0 and then raised the score to 2-0 after a corner kick. Real managed to come back and score the 2-1 with a free kick after 80 minutes, but while I was trying my best not to have a heart attack, my team kept cool and won the game deservedly.

This quintuple (European Super Cup, Club World Cup, Coupe de la Ligue, Ligue 1 and Champions League) means I have now finished the club part of the challenge! If I get a chance to take over a team that is going to win a domestic cup in a 10th country, I might do it. But following the rules from when I started the challenge, I am now finished.

  20. 3L1G You're right about coming back some years later when Kaizer Chiefs or Pirates become available. The question I would ask myself is, did my reputation grow enough since you took that job to now get a job at a better club? If not, it could feel like you've wasted your time there. So if your team is getting stronger and stronger, it might be worth to stay until you can get the titles you need.
