  1. Thanks guys hopefully the squad is now strong enough to compete in Europe as well We really hit a great run of form after the winter break and nobody could stay with us
  2. World Cup 2018 The day after our match with Anji Brazil retained the World Cup in Moscow. No prizes for guessing the surprise package of the tournament. Russia were terrible and finished bottom of their group without winning a game
  3. KUBAN KRASNADOR - RUSSIAN PREMIER DIVISION 2018-2019 RUSSIAN SUPER CUP 2018 KUBAN KRASNADOR v ANJI CENTRAL ASTRAKHANGAZPROM After soaking up some early Anji pressure we scored from a corner. It was turning into a real miserable game to showcase the winners of last season's domestic competitions and while we were happy to be winners there were some worrying signs in the performance.
  4. Good start, hope you're enjoying life more at Sheffield United than in Slovakia!
  5. Molde must hate you, that was some turn around, a 19 point swing? Nice. Good work in Europe again becoming a regular pain for the top sides
  6. KUBAN KRASNADOR - RUSSIAN PREMIER DIVISION 2018-2019 Transfer business We got our business done early and I think we've strengthened the squad really well. Halilovic comes into to bolster the two behind the striker and with good international experience and more to come I think he will develop into a fine player After failing to find a striker better than Bueno in our price range I recruited this youngster who looks to have some really good qualities Potisk is considered a natural CB but I think he has the abilities to play at LB and will provide good strength allowing Dudiev to move back to RB to rotate with Douglas Now the 2 glamour signings for a club like ours. Rami was out of contract at United and we got him at a good enough wage lay out considering no transfer fee was being paid and will be first choice next to Kravstov Ramirez like Rami was out of contract at City and though his wage is high at least we could get some money for him next summer if it doesn't work out, but I think he will be a class act in our line up We didn't get in any CMs as I feel we are well covered in that area, though if someone comes up that is good enough we will jump back in the market. I was surprised to see Sebastian Remme Berge leave Khabarovsk for as little as $950k which I would have paid if I had been alert to the sale. Going out, other than frees and loans, was Bressan who was surplus to requirement and not good enough anyway in the AM position with the options we now have. We got $1.8m for him to have some cash if we need to look at a couple of players in January/February. We also ended up having to give new contracts to a couple of players just because they are Russian and we need them in case our 4 good Russian players are ever injured. There was no value in the market for good Russian players which was very frustrating and we had to battle for Kravstov to stay as Rubin triggered his low $2.8m release clause.
  7. Still going along very nicely there and non shame in the teams you've lost against. Have they got the Wembley contractors in to build your stadium? Or has German efficiency become a thing of the past by 2017?
  8. What is going on elsewhere? You are clearly all wondering this so after 5 years I thought it would be good to have a look at how domestic power has changed, or not, over these last few years England Arsenal won the title in 2014 (a sign of things to come??) and Chelsea the next year, since then it went City United City. The big surprise was Reading coming 3rd in 2016, though I remember they were top for a long time that season. Spain Real Mardid all the way Italy 4 titles for AC Milan with a Juventus triumph sandwiched in the middle of them Germany Die Bayern dominance France 3 titles for PSG and 2 for Lyon while rich Monaco have had just 2 runners up the last 2 seasons Portugal Like Italy 4 titles for FC Porto with a Benfica slice of meat in the middle Holland PSV just ended Ajax's 7 consecutive seasons as winners Tureky More of a buffet than sandwiches here with Galatasaray taking the 2015&15 titles then Fenerbache getting 2 in a row beefore Besiktas won their first title for 9 years Ukraine No meaty puns here as Shakhtar have dominated it all the way Scotland Still Celtic while Rangers have had 2 second places they haven't been close nor has anyone else Sweden Only 4 seasons completed so far with Djurgarden and Elfsborg going blow for blow with 2 titles apiece Belgium Genk won in 2014 then 3 Anderlecht successes before Genk took back the title this year Poland Legia complete their 6th league success in a row this year Austria Red Bull took the first 2 league titles then Sturm Graz had a pair before Red Bull took it back this season Champions League Real Madrid won it in both 2014 and 2015 while Manchester United have become the first team ever to win 3 ECL titles in a row Europa League Spurs 2014, Chelsea 2015, Leverkusen 2016, Lyon 2017, Napoli 2018, maybe one day I'll be in a team that makes the knockout stages, maybe even with Kuban next year
  9. KUBAN KRASNADOR - RUSSIAN PREMIER DIVISION 2017-2018 SEASON REVIEW It could not have gone better if I had written it out before the season started. After the loss against Spartak I thought we would have a tough task on our hands to compete with the top 4 or 5 teams in the league but the players adapated to the tactics during a run of games against weaker teams and from there we just kept going from strength to strength. The positives for sure were the title and 28 games unbeaten, though things were made a lot easier by having to only play the league games as I was not saddened by our early exit from the cup. Beating CSKA, Spartak and Zenit were big for us as well as 2 draws with Lokomotiv, though I would have like to have beaten them given how much smack their manager has said about me in the past. With regards to players, Popov getting player of the year is a worthy reconginition, yet somehow he did not win foregin player of the year??? Bueno was in the race for top goal scorer but scored just 1 after our title was confirmed and missed out by 3 goals. CB Kravstov has been selected for the Russian squad that host the forthcoming World Cup and this I am immensely proud of as I brought him through the Khabarovsk youth system to first team and then to a regular player in a championship winning side,I hope he gets some games to add to his 4 caps. Dudiev did a good job at LB as a natural RB while the regular midfield trio of Lopez, Mokotjo and Leao were a solid force in the midfield and provided a great platform for us to maintain possession and create chances. Silva was a great addition to squad and the results after he arrived got even better as well as the performances. It's hard to pick any negatives really, Bueno could have scored more as a solo striker and we may need to look at someone else for next season, Ibra came in from time to time and did a decent job but he's not good enough to compete for the regular starting spot. Role of honour Bueno finished top scorer Popov had the most assists, highest average rating and joint 2nd top scorer Silva had a great impact for the final 10 games Armas was a rock at the back playing along side Kravstov Leao was the most consistent performer in the centre of the park Where from here? I am half in the mind that 5 years is enough in Russia. Though I know it would be good to go on and have a crack at the champions league we do have to buy about 6 or 7 players to strengthen the team enough to compete in 2 competitions. It is also that I am making slow progress through the save due to time available to play and I want to push on and hit some more of my targets I set. With this being World Cup year I am aware a lot of international positions may become available and this might suit better with how much time I can give to the game. I will have a look at what become available over the summer and decide from there, I am definitely not going to quit and become unemployed and will spend the summer preparing to be at Kuban next season. Former club A quick mention on Khabarovsk, as you can see they finished 9th which is about right for the strength of their team, and given that they lost their best 3 defenders and 3 Russian players at that, though Graham does not agree and sacked their manager. I hope they don't slip back from here like Rostov who finished bottom having come 4th in 2014.
  10. Popov showing up quite a few times is hardly surprising as he has been really good and when Silva came in to join him in behind the striker they formed a formidable partnership
  11. KUBAN KRASNADOR - RUSSIAN PREMIER DIVISION 2017-2018 You could tell Anji had to win to stay in contention for the title when they came to our place as we struggled to contatin them though they were abysmal in the final third, we punished them late on with 2 Silva goals to really steal 3 points. The news came through before kick off that Anji had won but needed a miracle to take the title while Khabarovsk had held Spartak to a draw meaning one point would be all we needed from the final 4 games. We got off to the best possible start as we cut through Sovetov for Ibra to give us the lead. Popov soon made it 2 and it was all us. They went down to 10 men soon after the break and we were singing as champions knowing there was little they could possibly do to deny us the point we needed. With the title sealed it seemed half our starting XI were thinking about their holidays already early on in the derby. Luckily their efforts in the final 3rd were terrible and Bueno seized upon one of our very few good moves in the game controlling the ball superbly before applying an equally good finish. Another chance to take the scalp of a top side presented itself, even if Zenit have massively underachieved this season they had only lost once since we beat them and, like ourselves, unbeaten in 2018 in the league. Kravstov was massively at fault with an own goal to give them the lead without having had a single shot. Popov got us level. Maybe neither team deserved to win but they only had 2 shots at goal so really annoyed to not win because of an own goal. The season ended with Terek at home. While they were threatened by dropping into the play off spot surely Alania wouldn't beat Spartak leaving them needing a point. Kravstov got a goal from Silva's corner but they were soon level. And though we were dominating they took the lead just before the break. We were level from a corner, and then our forwards went on holiday again as nothing much happened after that. OH YEAH!!!
