    Wales is the hardest save I have done in a while. The domestic challenge with TNS was 1 thing, but then we obviously had to battle to get anywhere in Europe and I'm surprised I won a European trophy there. 

    Iceland for example is great, and it's relatively easy to dominate domestic football, you get European football very early in the save and European success is a huge, (but rewarding challenge). I classed it as a success when I qualified from the Group Stage of the Champions league. 

    I did a save a while ago with Partizan that I absolutely loved, and like the challenge in Wales with TNS, there is obviously a huge domestic challenge with Red Star. The thing about Serbia of course is that they produce some amazing players and by taking over as Partizan, (as I did), I was automatically producing good players and had some in the pipeline when I started too. 

    If I was to look further afield for somewhere I haven't managed before properly, I had an amazing season managing Rijeka in Croatia in the joint save. At some point I'm going to have to go back and manage them. I've always wanted to started off as a B Team manager and progress to the Senior side of the same club, but I've never done it. I think Rijeka Reserves play in a competitive league and that might make Croatia attractive for a challenge like this. 

    All I would say is, don't think that your end-game has to be success in the Champions League. I remember in Wales with Ton Pentre I was completely happy with just over-coming TNS, so maybe try to give yourself lots of little challenges/targets rather than the ultimate Champions League success one. The reality is that with a small Country you're probably not going to win it.

    Thank you both! I was thinking something a bit in the middle, I really enjoyed reading the Wales thread but couldn't imagine myself doing the same sort of slog. I have thought about Serbia a lot, I think a nation like that in the sort of middle range would be ideal really. I will look at some similar nations.

    Another option is Ireland/N. Ireland, I really enjoy managing in Ireland which I suppose would be close-ish in terms of youth rating to Wales (?) but I think if I was going to do a save trying to make Ireland into a powerhouse I would probably do it where I buy all the best Irish prospects and try and develop them at home and then try and manage the national team as well.

    Thank you for posting the youth ratings, and like you say, it's all about making your own targets to keep the save interesting and fulfilling, especially so you don't get disheartened by Europe.

    [FM20] It was Cambrogi in Wales, but now it's all about aggression in Wales, in England. Bellicosity, pugnacity and belligerence are all excellent words. But Welsh belligerence, in England now.

    Amazing, I wasn't aware that the Cup worked like that. I'm actually only playing a network game at the moment which is very enjoyable but obviously much harder to progress. I will seriously have a look at Northern Ireland now :thup:

    I have spells of playing FM and not playing FM and when I have a spell of playing FM (like now) I always come to Career Updates and read through the entirety of whatever save you've got going on. I've read this over the last few days and it's been very enjoyable, as ever! I much prefer reading through threads like this than watching FM content on YouTube/Twitch.

    Judging by your youth intakes so far, I guess it would've taken a very long time to get this far if you were doing youth only. I always get motivated to do a youth save after reading your threads and I've been thinking of doing one in Northern Ireland but think it might be too much of a slog this year.

    Anyway, interested to see how you do in the CL this season :D

    Doing really well this season. Shame to see Xabier leave but it's a great deal and he won't actually be leaving yet. Chevalier has an interesting spread of attributes and also an excellent name, so I'm looking forward to seeing him develop. Oh, and you should defo carry on with explaining what you're doing with transfers etc., I find it interesting!

    I've not played FM nor posted on the forums for a couple of years, but when my interest in FM returns I always come back to viewing your threads. I read all of this one last night, very enjoyable as ever. It makes me want to buy FM again but I'll have to try and wait until my exams are over... Hopefully you can secure promotion again this time around :)

    Before I start my first season update, here is my starting profile and the leagues I loaded. In past FMs I've not tried to use that many different tactics or teams so I decided to give this challenge a go to try and change that. Who knows how long I'll go on for :p. I have two targets aside from the actual challenge which is to win the Champions' League and Prem with Spurs and to win the Euros and World Cup with England, although that's a long way down the line...

    2016/17 Season Review

    League - Competitions

    I started my career in Northern Ireland's second division, and, although the reputation is terrible, I felt that I had a good opportunity to get some silverware quite early. The 2nd division in N. Ireland splits into two groups of 6 after 22 games, then each team plays eachother once, to try and get into the playoff spots or to avoid the relegation spots. We finished 5th after 22 games then managed to win 4 out of our 5 last games to secure a playoff spot (3rd). We beat Dergview 3-2 on aggregate and then in the Premier Division playoff we beat Carrick 4-3 on aggregate to secure promotion. The board expected us to reach the playoffs but I was really pleased to get promotion because our defence was pretty dire throughout the campaign.

    In terms of cups, as you can see in the Competitions screenshot above there are bloody loads of them in N. Ireland, but only 2 apply to the challenge: the Northern Irish Cup and League Cup. I failed to reach the board's expectations in both of the competitions but did manage to win the County Antrim Shield, beating 3 Premier Division teams a long the way (including the champions and runners-up!). This gives me hope that, with the right additions next year, I will be able to challenge in the league and perhaps even win one of the two cups that actually matter :D

    Next seasons' targets:

    1. Get safety and perhaps challenge for title but that's a bit ambitious
    2. Win either the FA Cup or League Cup
