  1. Mixed feelings today. I'm a long time player, bought most editions, but I won't be playing this one despite having a Netflix account. I appreciate Marc and the work he puts into the game, I know the Netflix thing won't have been his decision, however, I stand by my decision to boycott all Football Manager games this year in solidarity with those long time players who don't have Netflix and don't want to stump up a subscription fee just to play a game they usually buy for eight or nine quid. Not that SI will care about me or anyone else boycotting the game, they've had their pockets filled with Netflix money.

Had the new features announced been truly groundbreaking, MAYBE I could have rowed back from this boycott decision. That said, it would have taken something truly spectacular in terms of new features and improvements, not something I expect as I appreciate that while the game evolves with every new edition, there will never be the wholesale revolutionary changes that some people hope for.

  2. I've only played through about half a season so far, started as Manchester City just to get a feel for what's new.

Good stuff.... I have no complaints about what has been added, team talks are a welcome addition, that said... I do find the outcomes of the team talks a little baffling at times, more on that below. I like the development hub and the way youth intakes are handled. The match day screens and presentation is great, I love that the Champion's League match days look different. In general the UI feels and looks great. I have seen a nice variety of goals in the 25 or so games that I have played. No complaints about the way my IFs are playing... Grealish offers very little in terms of goals and assists, but he draws a lot of fouls 😉

Not so good stuff - team talks... I'm managing City, we've played 15 in the league, we're top of the table and flying, won 13, drawn 1, lost 1. Pre match team talk in our home game against a struggling Southampton, I go with the demanding option... Kyle Walker and KDB had a meltdown and reacted negatively... both worried/nervous/not confident. We won the game but KDB put in his worst performance of the season. It seems a little odd, I could understand the trepidation a little had we been up against Liverpool or Real Madrid, but when at home to Southampton during a great run of form?

International football is still a car crash, I try to avoid looking at it. I just watched the World Cup play out, no Messi in the Argentina squad despite being in decent form and fully fit, his place seemed to go to uncapped Neal Maupay of Everton. Belgium had a greyed out left back and fourth choice goalkeeper in their squad, despite there being plenty of real players to choose from. Some teams had 30 man squads, others 23. I definitely feel like international management needs a little love.

I'd still like a little more depth to transfer negotiations, installments, the option to offer more than one player in p/ex. Would be cool if AI managers offered p/ex deals. Unloading deadwood and putting together sizeable transfer war chests is still too easy.

I'm looking forward to seeing if AI squad building and management has improved, I have a list as long as my arm of things that I saw in FMM22 that annoyed me when it came to AI managers signing players and managing their squads. If this is even 20% better in this version I'll be a happy man. I'll reserve judgement on this until I'm a few seasons in to my first 'proper' save.

Overall.... It's a thumbs up from me. The mobile game suits me perfectly, I buy the game on PC but it's a struggle for me to play through more than a handful of seasons, the PC game has evolved into something I sadly don't really have time for. The mobile version just fits in with my work and home life perfectly. The additions and polish that the game received this year are fantastic... now I just need to decide which lower league team to start my first proper save with. Thank you to the devs, keep up the good work, you are appreciated. 👍

My son is 15. He has no interest in football manager at all. I asked if any of his friends or people from school play. He does not know a single person that plays. They all know the game, but they say it looks boring, slow and the graphics are terrible.

I think the main problem at this stage is the learning curve for a new player, regardless of age. Plus we live in the age of instant gratification, that's not something you often get from Football Manager.

Feedback on beta... Thumbs up. Looking forward to full release... tonight hopefully! 🤤

So is this beta playable are not ?? Regarding carrying on for long save ?

Is it playable or not is a hell of a question, you'll get a variety of answers, none of them right or wrong. For me, personally, I've given up with buying before January, that is when the game is playable (for me). I've played beta in previous years but I can't put myself through it again, I have a lot of respect for those that do, as it helps get the game ready for me to enjoy.

  5. Without seeing your tactical set up it's very hard to advise you. One of the big breakthroughs I had a few years ago was understanding how important movement between the lines is and understanding which roles work well together and compliment each other. There are plenty of tactical guides on the forum and elsewhere online. With a team like Manchester City, preset tactics and picking players in their best position and roles should bring a decent amount of success. What is your starting reputation? Are you starting as an unknown manager? Are players unhappy about playing for you?

My longest save in this edition saw me start with AC Milan before moving to Manchester United, plenty of league and cup wins, I honestly do find it difficult NOT to win with the big clubs. My current save I started off as an unknown unemployed Mexican, got the Havant and Waterlooville job halfway through the first season, promoted to National League, second season I'm struggling for form in mid table... it's a challenge for sure!

  6. Just a few things I'd like to point out/query...

It seems to be very common for players to retire at 33, seems a little young. Is this to free up space for the newgens coming through?

Attendances at friendly games... I took my Premier League and Champions League winning Manchester United team to League Two Burton Albion for a preseason friendly, barely 1,000 turned up to watch. Then in another friendly at Old Trafford, current capacity 95,000... only 9,000 came through the turnstiles to watch us play Inter.

Mentoring... My newgen Argentinian centre forward was successfully mentored by Ronaldo. However I'm told he is unlikely to benefit from further mentoring when I try to pair him up with someone else. Surely he could still learn a thing or two from someone else? Is is worth trying?

I would love to see a little more depth to transfer negotiations in the next version of the game. I'd like to be able to pay a fee in installments, add ons for appearances and goals etc, maybe even offer more than one player in part exchange.

Loaning players out seems too difficult, even when offering to pay their wages in full.

Selling players seems too easy. Clearing out deadwood when taking a new job and amassing a sizeable transfer budget isn't that difficult.

AI squad building can sometimes be a little strange. Watching Barcelona offer £60m for Brandon Williams who has barely played a first team game in two years when they already have two left backs that are better... it's odd.... that said, real world Barcelona's transfer business this summer hasn't exactly made much sense either. 🤣

Overall... I love the game and I'm looking forward to seeing what FMM23 brings. 👍

  7. Currently at the back end of my second season of my AC Milan save. I know it's not the most challenging but I'm finding it relaxing in the evenings when I get done with the real world.

First season saw us do the league and cup double. Lost in the Champions League final to Inter, that was a tough pill to swallow. Belotti, Olmo and Chiesa were my main signings. Kessie was the star of the season.

Season two... I'm 8 points clear of Inter in the league with 6 games to play. Lost to Roma in the cup semi finals. Porto next up in the Champions League semi final with a final against PSG quite likely. No major signings this season, I've concentrated on adding promising youngsters and bargains to add depth, John Stones signed for around £20m and has built a great partnership with Tomori, so much so that Romagnoli is struggling to get in the team right now. Angelo, Brazilian wonderkid is now starting to show signs of really developing into something special.

I plan to keep this save going for a few more seasons and see where it takes me, I also have England, Spain, Germany and France loaded, typical big league save.

Next up I'd like to have a crack at the continental challenge that's mentioned a lot on here.

  8. Around 1-3 hours a day. I first played the mobile version several years ago, purchased it to play on a long flight to Mexico, it really helped pass the time and calm my anxiety about flying!

I've been playing Football Manager and Championship Manager before it since the early 90s. Unfortunately I just don't have the free time to sink into the PC game due to work and home commitments. I found myself loading it up and playing one or two matches during an evening, I'd quickly lose interest in the save. I found myself getting into that cycle that I'm sure some of you are familiar with.... constantly starting new saves and giving up before it really gets going. I feel like the PC game has evolved into something far more complex than I have time for.

The mobile version is very close to being perfect for my needs. If I'm being honest, I'd probably like to see a bit more depth to it, but at the same time I appreciate the limitations there are due to it being a mobile game. Right now I'm happy to split my time between FM mobile on my phone and CM 01/02 on my laptop. For me, CM 01/02 is probably still 'pound for pound' the best Football Manager game of all time.

  9. Further thoughts after completing half a season...

I feel like the shot count could be higher, seems on the low side. As Milan I'm rarely seeing double figures for shots for both me and my opponent.

An awful lot of crosses seem to hit the nearest defender and go out for a corner.

It feels like way too many highlights end with a free kick.

Some/all of these could be to do with my tactics of course. I'm right in the title race at new year and looking to add some creativity to my side in the summer window.
