    Final Position: 6th

An amazing performance this season, solidified our position in the league quite well and our tactic started to really gel nicely, some amazing defensive performances and standout performances from our young striker Carlos Spencer gives us a good platform to build on.

    Taca da Portugal
    3rd Round

A 4-1 win followed up by a 3-0 win was all in vein as we were thrown out of the competition in the third round to Operario Acores with a 1-0 defeat.

    Key Players

Joao Pedro - Once again the main star of my team this season, some very solid defensive displays, though at 27 now is the time to start preparing his replacement.

Joao Bernardino - 2nd year in a row at 2nd place in my key players list, If only i could get a third defender to perform like these to complete the defense of my 3-5-2.

Carlos Spencer - After last seasons dire performances and only 6 goals in 30 appearances Carlos really stepped it up this season.

    Youth Intake

    Quick Note:

A few youngsters did fill in this season when injuries occured, Artur from YP01A made some good performances, 3 goals and 2 assists, looking this season to really bring them into the squad more.

    Next Seasons Goals:

    • Aim for Higher than 6th.
    • Really start to give the more promising youngsters first team games.

  2. TofeeTish:Incredible intake there! Surely they will make it into the first team and up the leagues?

i hope so, im really stuck in two minds though, are 15 and 16 yer olds too young to play in the first team? board expect to finish top half and i cant play players out of position efficiently ( especially players with half a star for CA anf PA). Some big lineup and tactical decisions to make this season!

    League Review
    Final Position: 13th

Prior to the season the media had us at an expected 6th Position, this was impossible with my inherited squad, 2 full backs (1 for each side) and 3 centre backs (two DC/Ls). I decided before i even played one friendly that i would not be able to play 4 at the back, instead i opted for a 3-1-4-2 formation, retrained my LB to play CD (for cover), and my RB to play a DM role (i want to say for cover but he ended up starting a significant amount of games there as i had no out and out DM).

When all 3 CBs were fit there were no fatal dramas, however if one go injured, id be forced to play the LB at CD and sometimes it was just chaotic to watch haha, in fact, ALOT of players were forced to play out of position this season, and unfortunately it seems like it will happen again next season, and maybe the one after until i get my youth players in.

    Key Players

Joao Pedro - Pure rock at the defense, Ever-present in the league and won games with some of his performances.

Joao Bernardino - The two main CDs of my tactic, only missed out on two games in the league, the good form of these two players undoubtedly helped me stay up.

Luis Teixeira - My top goal scorer (with a massive 8), saved me a few times but will definitely look to build on this season.

Andre Fontes - A decent season, not bad stats for his attributes, though i wouldnt mind seeing his pass completion rate hit 90%, 82% means essentialy that 1 in 5 passes will be lost.

Tiago Dias - A good season considering his stats, averaging 52 passes a game at 84%.

An actual god like Youth Intake

    Quick Note:

The Senior squad Assistant report at the top of this post is from after the youth intake, all senior players had 5 stars for ability and potential when i started at the club (and i thought this was going to be an easy league!), after the youth intake thats what they went down to. Not sure if this is down to the poor attributes of my assistant manager?

    Sacked! - League Table

    Managers Personal Comments

One day i will hopefully be able to manage this sort of team, literally had no strengths, i cant screen shot now as i've been sacked but in all of the comparison pages i had either the worst stats in the league, or 16th/17th worst, no creativity, no pace, no good decision making skills, no crossing or passing skills in any of my midfielders, and no way to get my strikers scoring. I fear the challenge of this team is a few steps out of my league at the moment, nevertheless, Holiday Man is at it again, in Portugal this time. See how my fate turns out there! (i might wait to survive my first season before i post an update, it could take a few tries haha)

Decided to finally start this challenge, have had it bookmarked for a while and check back daily to read the updates, originally wanted to chose Holland but there's only two leagues, so i chose Belgium to add the third. Looking forward to seeing how i go!

  6. If you have a save before he takes the job may be worth uploading it to our FTP so we can take a look.

Also bear in mind because the German national team doesn't play with 'real' players due to licencing issues it can sometimes cause reputation issues when a manager does take over. Thanks for taking the time to raise this.

Unfortunately (well not for me :p) i have been playing since i started this thread and my rolling saves have saved over the dates prior to Klopp joining as my U19s Manager, the last save i have is at 3rd August 2018 (Klopp joined 24th July).

I have had a bit of a play around though and found that Georgiy Kondrat'ev (resigned from Belarus national team same date as Klopp) and Brendan Rodgers would also be willing to join as my U19s Manager.

Not sure if this is considered a bug or if its supposed to happen, my Duisberg team is nothing special either, last season finishing 9th is our greatest achievement so i doubt my Rep could be high enough to realistically expect these managers to want to manage my Youth.

I've saved the file separately, if you still think its worth having someone look it over i have no problem uploading it!

  7. No Words, just pictures.

How long will it last haha? Legit 100% no game editing or anything, He resigned as Dortmund coach at the end of the 2015/2016 season to take over germany, failed to qualify for the 2018 world cup so he resigned from Germany, i saw a new article saying FC Bayern was after him (after their manager left to manage Germany), i approached to sign and thats the position he wanted!

Any of you signed a first team manager onto your backroom staff?

  8. seriously it worth wasting that 10 mins of your time sorting the contracts out than this to happen, i learned my lesson on one of my saves i let my assistant renew a lot of contracts next thing i know my top stars are leaving for good money such as 30-40 million thanks to release clauses took a good few seasons to sort my team back out will never do that again

Haha yeah, looks like it was a lesson i had to learn the hard way like you did. It doesnt seem to have affected my game too much, Kaiserslauten and FSV Frankfurt are having particularly woeful seasons so i should be safe.

  9. Does offering them new contracts not cancel the bids of prospect teams? Did in the last one. Not tried it in this one yet.

Yeah i think it would work but not in this instance, because they just recently signed the new contract extensions the agent wouldnt even let me negotiate, just said his client wasnt interested as he had just signed a new contract with the club, a couple of days later, they were gone. Unlucky haha.

Not understanding that "release on free transfer" doesn't mean you cut a player with no penalty. I was managing in India, had a couple players on my reserve team that made up almost 66% of my total wage budget and they weren't worth playing on the 1st team...so I released them. It cost the team (and me, by association) something like $1.5 million (and my team's annual budget was well below that), so long story short, finances crashed, team went into administration, couldn't sign anyone, the board cut my wage budget from $32,000/wk to $12,000/wk. Eventually left in disgrace, took a job in Israel...where I discovered my team had no staff (coaches, scouts, etc.) and I couldn't get anyone to take an interview for a job. Eventually, had to hire my scout and assman from back in India.

Wow that would be so frustrating, completely destroyed the club! Surely in future versions the might have to create an accountant or financial planner staff role, the board or a financial managing staff member wouldnt let this happen in real life

  10. I am heartbroken at the moment fellow FM Players, I have lost my two first choice Wing backs in the January transfer window in the middle of a relegation struggle.

Started my game at Everton, eventually sacked, decided not to quit for the 100th time and stick it out and learn to master the game, offered the job at Duisburg in the German Second division.

When i was hired they were sitting second to bottom, avoided relegation (by a POINT!), 2nd season finished 9th, 3rd season finished 2nd (my first ever promotion!!), 4th season i finished 14th in the Bundesliga.

Along the way my scouting team found a 5 star PA wingback with his contract expiring (i get a massive 5% of my balance for transfers, so frees are crucial), they also found a 2nd wingback (opposite side), i was unable to meet the clubs demands for transfer but i asked the board to and they surprisingly signed the player.

after 4 seasons i grew tired of renewing contracts each season so i decided to let my assistant handle it, He starts renewing a few players contracts, excellent, no need for me to worry anymore!

Until, a 1.7m bid for one WB and a 5m bid for the other (absolutely crucial to my tactic), both bids accepted without my consent as they reach the Minimum Fee Release Clause :(!!!

I NEVER set release fee clauses, much prefer bargaining, perhaps trying to get a youth prospect and some cash in the deal so this is a major blow for me.

    Here are the players:

Needless to say i took the contract handling responsibility straight off him, Im currently sitting in 14th spot, but it looks like its going to be a long road to the end of the season, i seriously thought about resigning because i was furious, I decided to stay in the end because I've put a lot of time and effort into this club.

What is the biggest mistake you've made in Football Manager?

  11. Do you use windows 7? If so you might be able to recover it, I'll tell you how if thats what you use.

I do use windows 7, I've moved on from that game, with motivation from your Ajax thread i started with Hoffenheim in Germany, Top youth and Training facilities with some good young prospects in the first team!

If its not too much trouble can you post how to recover from what happened to my Everton game anyway? Just for future reference! Thanks!

  12. Hey guys, thanks so much for the replies, unfortunately my save game got corrupted, so freaking annoyed cos i really put effort into that save, my laptop ran out of power mid save. FML.

I did however learn a few things, i got Leon Osman to tutor Kose, BIG MISTAKE, i'm not sure what Leon Osmans Determination is off the top of my head but his tutoring caused Kose determination to sharply decrease down to 16, and probably further had i got further in the game. I was extremely annoyed at this but hoped that Kose professionalism would rise from the tutoring enough to make him get the Professional personality, hoping that he would go on the train better and still become a great player. You never know how many goals/morale/assists that decrease in Determination would have cost though.

I followed what you said iwantpie, changed his workload down to heavy (Focus intensity down to Average) and the next month nearly every single stat (minus Determination) increased. Not sure if that would have always happened even if i hadn't changed things but i was happy with it!

Thanks for all the advice guys,

  13. Hey Everyone, After reading the Ajax thread from Cleon and the Stuttgart thread from Madminister i decided to sit down and do my own version, with my favourite club Everton.

I'm doing quite well with the tactics side of my game, finished 5th in the first season, sitting 9th in the 2nd season but i have 3 games in hand and were only 11 games in so.

However i really need to work on my youth development abilities, I have Ross Barkley coming along very nicely, actually in his last 5 games his from is at 7.62 and he's scored 3 goals. Definitely got my centre midfield sorted.

However I bought this player in from Furth II, 530k compensation, 5 star potential so i am very excited about developing him, however in the last two months hes been on my assistant managers list for not performing in training and most of his stats are actually declining. I've had a chat with him saying his training level is not acceptable and he's promised to improve it. So we'll see how that goes, i still have the Youth Development chat to go if he still keeps declining.

Do you train individuals from other countries differently? How important is it to have another player/staff member of the same nationality? He is the only Turkish person at Everton if i recall correctly. Also, his Determination is at 19, with a personality of Determined, is it worth finding a Professional player to tutor him? Or with such a high determination will he still reach his potential effectively.

    Thanks for any replies!

  14. After reading the 12 step guide and all that I'm happy to say I'm finally truly enjoying FM, i always usually played as Everton on previous versions, set up a 4-5-1 and results were always on the better side of average, i never delved deep into the tactical side of the game like I've had to on FM13, but it's so much more fun winning with your tactics and seeing them work!

That being said, i started the Unemployment challenge and was offered the Havant and Waterlooville job before the first season started, i studied my players and decided this formation was best for the players i had at my disposal.

So I've tried different Shouts and stuff through the season and I'm currently on a 6 match unbeaten run, pretty successful. Sitting 9th in the table:

I don't know whether to start scouting players to strengthen this formation, or look at bringing in some width. We create a decent amount of chances in most matches, between 7-10, so maybe if i solidified the back and got a decent striker we could have a better season next season.

What do you guys think? Cheers
