Yeah there's definitely holes in it, which is why I left it as a discussion topic, hoping it could be worked out by those smarter than me. Maybe the link up with SciSports could provide some initial data?

Or you don't get anything until the players return to training and get tested throughout the first week. Say you get 2 weeks worth of training, and a bounce game, before you start pre-season for real. Could help build a picture.

If you move clubs halfway through a season you'd only keep that data if you kept some of the coaching staff that was previously there. Would maybe add a new dynamic to moving clubs?

I think that's the inherent drawback in it. The SciSports link up wouldn't be able to provide you with data across the size of db FM has and there would be an inevitable misalignment between statistical analysis and what the researchers put in. At the level I research, there's no way I can use those sort of stats to make my analysis and therefore what I'm putting in wouldn't tally with what's coming out, solely because we'd be looking at the game in different ways. You'd literally need to reinvent the way players are assessed by the team to achieve that and have it ready to go prior to the game.

The second option about playing blind, I think the reason if I'm SI, I decide against it, is that it puts off people who don't want to go in for that deep dive into the game, who want to be able to pick up a team, see who their best players are and get cracking. I think outside of this forum, that's an awfully huge part of the playing public.

I'm not against removing the display of numerical attributes and replacing them with something else however and I think it's probably only a matter of time (see the way condition has been changed.) I think we're more likely to see textual reports on attribute sets however, which should hopefully mean that people link the attributes and preferred moves when looking at them, which would produce a more natural way to ascertain a player, combined with those sort of more in depth statistics coming into play as the game progresses for those users who wish to use them as a complimentary tool for building their assessment of their team.

  2. I think the biggest issue with doing it this way, for me, would come at the start of the game when there wouldn't be such stats available (unless of course they were arbitrarily made up.) How at that point would you be able to ascertain a starting XI without knowing something about the players? Yes, obviously in the game there would still be some way to report this, but it wouldn't be based on any sort of factual context.

sure? you want offside calls because your player armpit or tip of his elbow is offside?

kidding. but yes, the VAR is not properly implemented in the game yet.

I do feel some sympathy with SI in implementing VAR. I don’t think anyone watching the EPL last year for example, had any idea of how VAR would play out in reality, certainly not at the start of the season, and definitely not before the season began which is when SI would have been doing their work for the upcoming season. It’s still a very new, very raw and unrefined product in real life. Replicating that as it is now, in a game that’s meant to be playable over multiple seasons must be a real PITA.

Which field are you taking about exactly? First name, second and common name covers pretty all bases I thought.

there's a person name ui, which in theory would allow you to tinker with the ethnicity, which is what I want to dig down into.

Sadly, all I've managed to do so far is manage to break the display on my nations columns, so that now when I search nations, I can't see anything and I can't get it back to normal, even with unistalling/reinstalling, which is annoying as hell.

  5. Apologies if this has been answered, but I've not been able to find it through my searches.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any success in activating the "Person Name" field in the editor by altering the xml files via the resource archiver.

I can see the field but try as I might I've not been able to get it to open as a selectable field, wasn't sure if someone else had had more joy.

    TIA.

It's super finicky, I still never figured out why it does that for people. I think it's always lined up fine in the save games I've put up for download? Maybe it gets weird if you have different setups, though I don't know why - and since it takes so damn long for the thing to start, it's not like I can test that kind of stuff that much.

I made a pack that throws them all off by 1 a while ago (won't have the newer leagues but should have the important stars) but it won't do you any good if the game decided to do something else with it.

I just used Better Finder Rename to change the file names, then redid the config file. A little trial and error at times, but got there in the end!

How likely is it that Bury FC will be in the national league next season because i will be starting to do the rules for the database in about 2 weeks time.

I think it would make it alot more easier to do the database if they were in the national league next season due to the knock on effect through the leagues due to them being expelled from league 1.

It's highly unlikely that they'll be accepted at that level. The criteria the National League set regarding financial commitments and stadium is really strict, far more so than the league. I can't see any Bury team having everything in place in time.

I didn't really delve into Scottish dialects as there was a lot of conflicting information.

For example, Wiki says Scots and Gaelic are largely "dying out" or "going extinct". But a Scots language website says "Scots is the collective name for Scottish dialects.  Central Scots, which is a main dialect, has a sub dialect called West Central Scots, and within West Central Scots the city of Glasgow has long had a distinct city dialect. This means that people who speak Glasgow city dialect are speaking a form of West Central Scots and also belong to the wider Central Scots region because they share many features in common with other speakers in that larger dialect region. We can then take this one step further, to a national scale, and say that people speaking Glasgow city dialect are Scots speakers because Central Scots is one of the main dialects of the Scots language as a whole."

Needless to say...It was confusing to me.

What I ended up doing was having the nation speak Scottish English, as in almost everyone from there has an accent or different culture to foreigners. And in some Regions, such as Glasgow, the large majority of young people born there will speak "Scots".

If you know more, and can explain a proper language setup for Scotland, I'd be happy to adjust and add the dialects!

I think tackling the absolute range of dialects in the UK and making it stick in a way that reflects all the diferences would be a job that would take years. There's so many and they're all so varied, and in some cases (especially the aforementioned Doric) are almost unintelligible to non-natives.

  9. Nuneaton Borough - looking forward to starting at the lower level once some of the LLM databases are out.

Manchester United -  Can't not fancy the rebuild job there

Sunderland - lived there for four and a bit years, again, a rebuilding job.

Union Berlin - Hipster challenge plus it won't be easy keeping them up in the Bundesliga.

Peterhead - Me dad's hometown, a bit yo-yo in real life, try and get them established and kick on.

Quite fancy an unemployed save as well with a host of random nations added, once one of the world league multipacks comes out.
