  1. Thanks for this. I've got back in FM just because you are back at writing .

I was a big fun of tea and busquets, and I just realized you got another web site. Although I know already the full amount of articles you wrote , I'll give it a read.

It is inspiring, I love to read it through. The tactic stuff is well taught. And I'm also the defensive tactician as you prefer most of the time but not always. I'll try to build something soon and show the results playing defensive football. Where can I fetch you on discord? Thanks again

With the Defensive Width you can manage where to funnel the others team attack. To Make a good decision it is important to understand where your defensive formation is naturally exposed and where it is naturally well protected. Then funnel the attacks into the well protected area to relieve the exposed areas. If all areas are equally protected / exposed you can just leave it on a balanced width.

Important areas around this decision are the following:

    • Behind the Defensive Line (Can be influenced by the "Defensive Line" TI)
    • In front of the Defensive Line (This area can be protected by 1 or 2 Defensive Midfielders; With no DM's that area is usually naturally exposed)
    • Wide Areas (With Wide Players in the AM strata, your team is usually naturally exposed as well as when playing with wing backs; Fullbacks and CM strata wide players will help you to protect the wings)

You can slightly differ from those "rules" by setting up roles in a certain way. But those considerations mentioned above should affect how you set up your formation. It's also taken into consideration how you are looking to defend in general. If you are looking for a high line pressing style, better pick a formation that can defend wide and has players in a high defensive position. If you are looking for a deeper defensive block, pick a well protected formation in wide areas (or even all above mentioned) to be able to defend in a narrow shape.

    Some footage for better visuals:

That's interesting, but if you want to use a specific formation, let's say a 4231, you know your problems will be front of defense and wings. How can you tweak it to make it less vulnerable, obviously without changing formation? I was thinking to push the defensive line being higher than the LoE and using defensive wide width?

  3. Hello Cleon, I missed all your articles, I had so much success in previous fm's becau2of your help from posts and articles. I was an avid reader of tea and busquets. I became a decent coach and doing well because of your articles, but my weak point is to adapt, not really interested in a specific style of play. I struggle a lot to create a system that deals with stronger team and my team being an underdog. Especially never use lower mentality, lower than positive. Thanks you're back

Seb answered no even if there is a visual bug (from FM19) suggesting that yes in the training summary. I may confirm that.

Thanks Hunt3r. Do you know if the focus on the 100% attribute of these session, is "weighted" by the work on tactical familiarity ? I mean, in the others traditionnal sessions (not match prep), you only work on attributes and not on tactical familiarity. To be fair, it should give more attributes improvement than a match preparation session. Otherwise "match prep" seems a bit too strong, and can be abused on every schedule (bonus attributes for next match + role training +tactics).

Thanks, in fact he didnt confirm that, thats why I further asked.

No. 1x Attacking Movement will have the same effect as 2x Attacking Movement. You can 'stack' different sessions though. For example, 1x Att Movement and 1x Def Positioning before a match will both 'count' toward that match.

I have an example to clarify, if I use att mov before a match in 1 training week, will that fall in the 2nd match too, in the same week?

It's a bit annoying because I'm using @bluestillidie00 TCS skin on a 1920x1080 screen (windowed mode) and there is A LOT of blank space between the left side and the two "tablet" screens I'm currently limited to. I wonder how this could (or if it will) be fixed...

Same resolution here, I can't understand why I can't expand it.... It is so bloody annoying. Everytime I try to play, see that match UI and boom close the game.

They could've just given us an option to use it or not.

Sometimes you wonder if they actually enjoy playing the game, Or even bother to play it at all?

And the way they don't justify these changes to the fans despite asking us to do their testing for them and reporting their mistakes all year is a disgrace.

Even their resident forum white knights and you tube mercenaries can't defend them on this one.

Yes you're completely right. The youtube mercenaries are there to make money on them shows, and can't say a word against. The game this year is the worse since the beginning, and you're right as well, the devs don't play the game, they are just programmers whom don't have an idea of how to enjoy the game. I think is no sense to ask the community anymore if they do what they want. There are still tons 9f bugs on the game too, but they are too busy programming the new game to bother. What a shame!!!

    Can this get fixed please

I am sorry, but this year edition we MUST bear the match panels as they are, because the developers have decided like this. In my case no more than 2 option, and the dugout appearing, plus the poor match stats sticking there. Complete failure

Same here. On fm 20 you could turn off all notifications. Before the match i always click on always ignore but still they pop up all game. Very annoying.

Welcome to complete match madness, and mess. You watch what I want they say, and that's it. If you're lucky enough  it doesn't bugs.

  10. the tablet is the worse thing in the game.... the match day experience is awful, they tried something new pointless. We had so many option during the game and they took them away. I cant see the table, no even choose something I like. also I have just the option for 2 widgets. This year is the worse for the series. I spent 32 pounds for nothing, and I am not going to pre order the game anymore. Complete fail

Yes, I had to resize all windows to get it work, but still having sizing issue, as the match experience is awful. I can't have more than 2 widgets, and cannot resize what I have. I mean this is something that let me lose interest about the game tbh. I am not playing that much, and I feel really disappointed.

  12. So, I pre ordered the game and while playing the beta I had the above issue. I tried all was suggested in the threads here, but nothing worked. So, I said, it is ok, I`ll wait for the full game , nut nothing has changed, then I unistalled the game, and I have to play the fm 20 because I bought a game but is unplayable for me. I dont think is fair, it is not a bug , but a malfunction and nobody in SI is able to fix??? I am speechless

  13. I am having same issues, when using 2 strikers, the problem is clustering players from the wing. Usually that is not a problem when using lone striker, but with 2 the half spaces are taken from them. So basically, I use a 442, and I make sure my strikers are in the box, no movement required, as I just want them be there. I don't need them making movement for anyone, so a P and TMs. On the Wings I use a Ws on the side of the P and a WMa on the other. They stay wide, and the Ws has the overlap Ti so the FBs will help. Mids I have a APs  P side, and CMs TMs side. I used IW but they never shone, but like this, even using a opposite foot on the Ws role, I have some brilliant play, and he never clash with the P. I used AF but he moves into channels, and none is using his movements. This is my experience but perhaps anyone could have had some success with that

  14. Well, it is really complicate and misleading giving you advices like you just said. For that, you need watching games, and experience to be the tinkerman. For example your 442 for my like is completely unbalanced, and there is no clear style definition. This is my humble opinion. You need to start from the basics. As always I suggest, have a close read to the official manual, there are so many good info and often gamers skip it. That's why, people are not giving you specific advices, because it is pointless when you don't have comprehensive information.

  15. Well, I didn't have problem with the 442,also morphing in a 442 DM. Strikers find always the way to smash in the net. What I'd suggest, it is not to tell you exactly what to do. But, calm yourself and pay attention to roles/duties foremost anything else. The key is in the tweaking of roles/duties. I play same style every game, I love counter attacking football, so I don't change that style, but I tweak according the opposition defensive shape (formation) and how much are they willing to risk (mentality/duties/roles) I have 4-5 different approach to each situation as base and then situational tweaks in specific moment of the game. But mainly these changes are roles/duties changes. All is supported by a well thought training schedule, to instill my players the counter attacking style. I never changed mentality, on positive,as I want a forward thinking counter strategy. The only TI I change are the defensive line and defensive widht to adapt at various opposition formation. I hope you got some ideas.
