  2. I have been testing tactics and formations last few days, What is it with this me engine that makes 1 striker formations so much worse than 2 man.

seems like wide players cutting in are not working as well as they should.

wingers do better, but this is not fm 1995.

and before you ask for pictures of my tactic , I have tested every variation possible

I have been able to make a few 4231 ones work fine, but 433dm formations are struggling big time.

Then I put in a simple 442 and watch my strikers kill the game with easy hattricks.

so to put it simply 442 =op, 4231 doing okish and 433 is underperforming in 21.3

    Just me ?

  3. I have not noticed something weird with mentoring.

My monthly player review popped up and mentioned that my midfielder picked up a new trait, issue is that he is not in the mentor group , so he is not being mentored or mentoring anyone.

This is the second time I have noticed this.

Is this a bug or am I missing something here?

Looking at your tactic I can see a few problem areas. First of all it’s great that you’ve watched games and noticed problems so let’s start with them:

Wing back & Winger don’t make crosses. Your wingback is set to support duty so it’s not always his initial thought to cross and although the Positive team mentality will help, he still won’t be playing that aggressively. Options - change to attack duty or add PI “cross more often”. For your Winger, he’s also on support duty and I’ve found that makes him too deep to be in a good crossing position, I would add the PI “get further forward” as you want him to track back and not have a crazy risky mentality

When they do cross there’s no one in box - that’s because there’s no one in the box. Simple as that. You have a F9 who plays outside the box most of the time then gets into the box later. You’re using a Mez as well who will drift out wide rather than get into the box. Right now only your IF-A will be in the box, really. I’d change your Mez to possibly a CM-A and think about using a Complete Forward rather than an F9. It’s not that the F9 doesn’t work or anything like that but you’re wanting crosses in the box and an F9 is rarely going to get on the end of them unless your winger and wing back were to cross from the byline (which currently they don’t) as this would give players more time to get into the box

I also think a lot of your problems would be solved if you changed your mentality to attack. You have a lot of support and defend duties so a lot of those players are already playing less risky, on positive they’ll only be slightly more risky in their play. Using attacking will make sure your players look to score as well as keep possession

Always remember - think about who you want scoring your goals and who will supply them, then look at those things during matches and see if they’re working and if not then why not.

    Hope this helps

Mr Chip I do not agree with anything you wrote.

I play an almost identical tactic , and my winger support is my assist king of the season, with 19.

the false nine is always in the box when the wide play is leading to a cross, he may well be out of the box when there is central attacking transitions.

the if a and f9 and mez(a) are the ones in the box when there are crosses, the mez arriving at last second  for a shot just inside the box.

so his tactic will work very well with the right players.

  5. game seems to have taken two steps backward with the last patch.

Can't play a 4 man defence when on away games, home team will always get easy goals due to crossing being op.

did 10 hours of testing this the last two days, a horrible crosser will nearly always find the attacker/ inside forward unmarked.

Long shots seems like they were back 10 years ago , thought it was fixed a few fms ago, where players with long shot ppm would not should at any given chance.

ballboy at cornerflag is getting injured with all the stray shots aimed at him ;)

home team advantage is through the roof compared to real football , checked soccerstats.com , and away team wins is less than half of what top teams get in real life.

this is playing in the premier league.

before the patch , playing the serie A , the stats were comparable to real results.

I am nr1 in my league and only team with positive win ratio away.

I even tried to make some bad tactics to try to lose at home, but my players just seems to have perfect composure/crossing/first touch/ dribbling and finishing when I play home games.

Same goes for the other team when I play away.

  6. I have tried this tactic as Man utd .  My perfect Serie A tactic is not working for me in the premier league.

So I have been reading this thread and testing it with my team.

I can't get the AM support role to work , I have tried it with three very different players. Mata that comes deep, Pogba that gets into the box and Ozil that looks for the pass rather than shoot.

given them move into channels , roam from position in testing. Mostly with the default though.

But they all get 6.4 -6.7 and are doing very little in the attacking third.

I moved them back to a cm (a ) role and saw  improvements.

So Cleon how do you get the Am role to work in this tactic ?
