How is everyone getting on with Charlie Patino and any of the other youngsters?

I'm in pre-season 2023/24 season and Patino has just had two very successful seasons on loan at Oxford United - in League 1 & then Championship - and is now looking more than ready to step up to my first team.

Marcelo Flores has had two good seasons on loan at Torquay in the Conference but is a way off the first team, just yet.

Nikolaj Möller also had two good loan seasons and I just sold for £10M which was a lot more than I expected.

I sold him because I think Mika Biereth is ready for more first team action - he scored over 50 goals in two seasons at Barnet in the Conference & then Ipswich in the Championship.

Patino seems to be OK but not too spectecular. Biereth has been doing well n loan. Not sure he's ready for Premier League stuff though.

Balogun was a beast at Celtic but in the few minutes I've given him he hasn't hit the same form. None of the other youngster really impress me.

  2. After a year of FM sabbatical for me I'm back with Arsenal. Doing a test run to get used to some of the new things. Will do a real start after the winter transfer update.

Started off with completely overhauling the backroom staff. I think I only kept 3-4 of all the original staff. And managed to get 2 more spots for senior team coaches from the board. Still not satisfied but it's better than it was before.
Had to give Saka a contract extension as he started to complain. Dropped AMN to squad status but it because so much of a mess through out the pre-season, because he had the support of the team leaders (Auba and Xhaka), I revert it back.
Talking about those two, what a mess, the captain and vice captain, yet Tierney and the newly arrived Berg had better stats. Keeping things like that until next summer when I try to dump both Auba and Xhaka.

Had some transfers in. Always get Almada. Saw him as a cover at AMC will planning to use ESR and Gabi on the left.
I got Berg because I was looking to offload Xhaka and Elneny. I opted to wait with Xhaka for the sake of the squad harmony. Elneny I waited to long because of his mentality for mentoring.

As I was setting up my mentor groups I realized how poor the leaders and highly influences players their personality was.
In a push to sell Lacazette I got Álvarez because I made the silly promise to berg to improve our forwards. But also thinking of the future.
While scouting I bumped into Belotti and his personality was the reason I got him, you'll see why later if you don't know yet.
Want him to mentor as many of the players as possible and if needed offload him after one season.

The out going transfers looked like this. Wanted to give Rekik some playing time. Kolasinac was a sale to offload wage.
Cedric has a mandatory fee but only for 6,76 million GBP. With getting Berg I decided that AMN would become understudy to Tomi.
Sadly Lacazette his sale came with paying half his wage. Flo his loan was because of Belotti's arrival to give him more playing time.

Before the summer transfer window closed I started the season off  in this formation. Berg played because Partey got injured at the end of pre-season for 3 months.
But also because Berg had an amazing pre-season with long pass assists. Xhaka because he needed some playing time to get fit. ESR was injured but only for a few days.

Things will change. Álvarez will go on the left. Almada will be cover to Odegaard. Pepé is 2nd to Saka and ESR is plugged in where needed.
Belotti will 2nd Auba with Nketiah (who signed an extension) as third.

Fixtures list so far. M'gladback was a horrible match and made me doubt if we were ready for the league.

    Stats of the incoming players

    Belotti

    Álvarez

    Berg

    Almada

Sadly i lost Almada after my 2nd league match for about 8 weeks. That caused the dropped in bravery.

We'll see how things go. Facing Chelsea, Manu Utd and Tottenham in September.

  3. What I usually do I look at the stats. If those can use a bump I leave them in the U18. If they're 17 but have decent stats I move them to the U23. I will then occasionally bring one along in matches I should be winning. And drop them in once we're ahead by 2-3 goals.

Once they hit 18 and I don't have a rotating spot for them I loan them out to clubs with at least good facilities on the level (or above) they should be playing as a regular starter.

  4. My first season with Arsenal saw me mainly revamp the backroom staff. And bring in loads of young players. Few players on free transfer.

Managed to get rid of Ozil and Mkhitaryan but with hefty 'selling team wages' options..

The staff really was a mess. And the U19 and U23 players were poor to say the least.

Won the League due to Liverpool stumbling at the end. Got the Europa League Cup and League Cup. Sadly Liverpool dumped us in the semi of the F(or) A(rsenal) Cup.

  5. I remember from reading that you can make a inconsistent player consistent, or at least remove the inconsistent remark.

Playing them in easy to win matches and making sure they rake good ratings for a period of time.

I usually avoided players with this as I wasn't willing to put in the time to try this for myself.

Yikes that injury screen is a headache to look at. Not much can be done there. U can try to lower his training and match load but I doubt it will make too much difference. I had players with injury prone traits before but sometimes u can really lower down his frequency of injuries if u rotate a lot and make sure he is not overworked.

This is exactly what I did.

I am struggling with Arsenal. I play a 4-2-3-1 with BBM + DLP(D), but the strikers are complete sh&t. Lacazette has a vey poor average, Aubameyang is a little better. I bought Ajer, Tete, Grimaldo and a couple of kids(Morilla, Trincao, etc.) for the future. I changed the roles so many times, but the team is playing awful. I tried everything but it seems i don't  find the correct settings. I score very hardly, and i got beated 4-0 by Leverkusen, Liverpool, etc.

I find this combination DLP+ BBM very bad.

I use the same tactic and having Guendouzi en Torreira in a BBM + BWM let to me winning the league 3-4 games before the end. Took in 19 goals Man C had 29) but scored only 75 (Liverpool had 96).

My struggle was the strikers. I had goals coming from my midfield which was good but at times the strikers disappointed me. I think it's my tactic as I brought in Maximiliano Gomez who wasn't effective as well. Calleri who wasn't consistent. Same for Piatek. I have now opted for a young strikers force. Consisting out of Joveljic, Silva, Uriatre (regen) and Aldade (regen), while Almada, Felix serve as back up when I play 4-2-4. And I still have 2 more promising strikers in my U23. Most goals are still coming from my (attacking) midfield but the strikers are following closely.

My striker plays as either AF or P depending on the players stats also have Joveljic who plays as CF. I also customise my tactics based on who I play. Cross early with P. work in box with AF. Wings are either IF or W both on support but can change to Attack depending on how things go. AMC is AP or T, again based on the player his stats. central midfielders are DLP/BBM and BWM. When Torreira gets yellow I shift him to DLP and move Guendouzi to BBM. Biggest los has been 4-3 against Cardiff with an average of being 1-3 in scoreline.

  8. Find it funny nobody is rushing to sign Ozil for free as his contract is running out with me.

Had some issues with Lacazette and Aubameyang not scoring for long period or only from penalties. Look like that dip is over and they're slowly moving up. Still using the same formation 4-2-3-1

Chambers and Holding have been fairly well for me as rotation players. Even re-trained Holding to BWM-D.

All squads can now create mentoring units. However players still need to be in the relative squads. I.e you can't have a senior player who is in the first team squad be in a mentoring unit for the reserve team. However you can move the player to the reserve team and then him be able to do that.

The change that was implemented just added mentoring to the reserves and under squads. It didn't remove the restrictions.

That's odd, I can't create them in my game for the U21 and U18 (Arsenal).

EDIT: Ok, just checked my game, just started my second season (19.3.3) and now I do see the mentoring for U18 and U21. Could have sworn it wasn't there when I started my game (19.3)

  10. Whoa! Impressive match, Harper. :applause:

Hello all, just thought I would share my transfers in my first season.

Tbh I didn't want to get rid of so many but a few players became unhappy at me not letting them leave. Have cleared over £1M - a week - off the wage bill from letting the players highlighted leave which I'm pretty chuffed with.

Sitting in 3rd on 2nd March, if I win my game in hand I'll go top by 2 points. Happy with that so far definitely.

Did you release Ozil on free?

    -------------------------

Just started FM19 (always purchase after the Winter update). Have a huge learning curve ahead of me with the new features.

Some struggles getting proper staff than the editions before. Arsenal's dwindled reputation hurting in many places. That said still got Bernhard Peters (Model Professional) as HoYD and Phil Cannon as Scout, who will later replace Bould as Ass Man.

Also noticing more difficulty getting my demands through the board. This is going to be fun (in a positive way).

Since Arsenal has a decent group I focused on youth in the back getting Tymon (14 mil), Vagnoman (9 mil), and Mbabu 11.5 mil) while Jenkinson was loaned out. De Ligt slipped through my fingers towards Liverpool.

Also picked up Pelayo Morilla (950k) as I plan to not active the buy clause in Suarez (in with patch 19.3) his loan contract. Didn't have enough cash to go after a younger keeper (had a 30 mil kit). Will be a challenge if Cech and/or Leno get injured.

Not focused on wing players since Smith Rowe and Nelson will return, so I have to be creative and rotate properly.

Had some issues with Lichtsteiner and Xhaka in terms of playing time in October. Was forced to sell Lichtsteiner for 850k. Xhaka might follow as well.

Focus for the first season will be to get back into the Champions League and win a cup (Europa and/or FA Cup). Pre-season was great, won all games while playing against the likes of Barcelona and Lazio. And In the league I've been able to keep my head above water moving around in the top 3. beat Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea comfortably. Lost to Leicester City.
