The visitors sit in 8^th place after 5 wins, 4 draws and 4 defeats. We make 3 changes to the side as Yu Yuanzong and Su Yujie both picked up injuries in training and Heydari has started his World Cup duty for Iran, Sami Al-Sanea makes his first appearance for me at right-back with Liu Lijun making his first start on the other side of the defence as Wu Lei returns to the side and Wen Jun moves alongside Zheng Xufeng. The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes with Xu Ye finding Ye Chugui with a through-ball and him curling it past Peng before our leveller came 6 minutes later with Wu Lei scoring from Nickson’s pass. We’d take the lead 4 minutes before the break with Nickson getting onto Jun’s through-ball while we lost sub Jamie Maclaren to injury for 5-6 weeks minutes after coming on.

My return to Henan saw them sitting in 13^th place after 4 wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats and we went unchanged. The opening goal of the game came in the 3^rd minute with Li Jichao volleying a chipped through-ball from Wasiyanto across Yang Peng whilst our leveller came in the 33^rd minute with Wang Sheng curling it past the keeper from Wen Jun’s pass. We’d take the lead a minute into the second-half as Zheng Xufeng would intercept the ball with Djiteye beating the keeper at his near post before Xufeng would assist the third 15 minutes from time, finding sub Xu Xiong at the back post. Chen Binbin would score a consolation from 25-yards in the first minute of stoppage-time but we held on for the win.

The visitors come into this game sitting in 3^rd place with 9 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats as we make 4 changes from our last league game as Yu Yuanzong returns from injury at right-back, Abdollah Heydari came in at left-back following World Cup duty, Han Pengfei replaces the injured Vinicius at centre-back and Su Yujie replaces Wu Lei in the midfield. The opening goal came in the 17^th minute with Wen Jun getting on the end of Djiteye’s through-ball with the equaliser coming from Caoloan Lavery on 31 minutes as Wang Jianming set up the forward. We retook the lead 4 minutes before the break with Djiteye feeding Nickson to score at the near post before the second leveller saw Wu Jingwei head home a Tim Chow corner. We’d take the lead for the third time in the game with Nickson returning the favour for Djiteye in the 63^rd minute with Chow volleying home Tyias Browning’s cross with 4 minutes to play.

The opening goal of the game came in the 18^th minute with Zheng Xufeng’s cross headed home by Djiteye with the striker setting up the second a couple of minutes before the break, feeding Wen Jun who curled it past the keeper.

The hosts sat in 12^th place after 4 wins, 8 draws and 5 defeats and we make 2 changes with Vinicius returning to the back 4 and Wu Lei coming into the right-wing position, Han Pengfei dropped down to the bench while Wen Jun missing out due to a knock. We took the lead in the 12^th minute through a free-kick from Wu Lei while the equaliser came in the 35^th minute with Liu Zhi turning in Chen Xiaorui’s low cross. They would take the lead in the 57^th minute with Frank Nouble scoring at the near post from a Gorassi cross before Lei would score his second after a goalkeeping error a minute later.

2026 - Time To Move

After a slight rebuild at Henan before jumping ship, it was off to Guangzhou who had won the league title 2 years ago but had disappointed, finishing last season in 5th place.

After a few incomings that i'll review at the end of the season, the board decided that it was a good idea to sell my only senior right-back (I presume because they are complete morons) so I was left with a centre-back covering there for the season.

Mar 7th – Shanggang (A) W 2-1 [Nickson 21, Djiteye 33]

My first game in charge of Guangzhou saw a trip to Shanghai SIPG or Shanggang as they are known in FM16. There were 5 debutants in this game with Malian striker Sanoussy Djiteye setting up Brazilian CAM Nickson before getting on the end of right-back Yuanzong’s cross for his goal. The hosts would score early in the second half in a performance that will need to be improved against the better teams in the league.

A meeting between two sides who both won on the opening night. We took the lead in the 15^th minute with Nickson’s lobbed through ball perfectly into the path of Djiteye who beat the keeper at the near post. Su Yujie took a knock just before half-time (he’ll be out for a week) and was replaced at the break by Hao while the equaliser came midway through the second half as Frank Nouble’s through ball was tucked under Yong by Han Xin. We took the lead with 4 minutes from time as a back-pass from the right-back was intercepted by Xiong to slide past the keeper before the lead was extended 3 minutes later as a penalty was won by substitute Jamie Maclaren, Xufeng sending the keeper the wrong way.

Another game where both teams went into it with 2 wins from 2 with the potential victor taking top spot. 2 changes for us see Yang Peng make his debut in goal while Dong Hao comes in for the injured Su Yujie in midfield. Once again, we took the lead from Nickson finding Djiteye with a through-ball with the striker beating a defender before smashing it past the keeper with the lead doubled 8 minutes after the break with Sheng heading home from a Nickson free-kick.

Shenhua came into the game in 9^th position with a win, a draw and a defeat from their opening 3 games. 2 changes for us with record signing Qi Fei (£2.6m) makes his debut at centre-back while Yujie is back in the midfield. Nothing happened in the game until the 71^st minute where Yang Sheng drove one from Nickson’s pass from just outside the D.

Guo’an came into the game with a win, 2 draws and a defeat as they sat in 10^th place as we named an unchanged line-up. They took the lead on 28 minutes at the near post through Zhang Yuning’s eighth of the season from a Wang Shangyuan through ball before Djiteye would pounce on a short back-pass just before half-time with the striker adding his second 9 minutes after the break as he got on the end of Nickson’s through-ball.

Jiangsu would come into the game in 4^th with 3 wins and 2 defeats so far this season as we remained unchanged. Despite dominating the first half, we had to wait until after the break to take the lead with Djiteye finding Sheng who beat the keeper at the near post before the visitors levelled a minute later as Yang Di converted Ri Hwang’s cross. We took the lead midway through the second-half with substitutes Jamie Maclaren and Xi Xiong as the Chinese striker scored from 30 yards out before a penalty was conceded by left-back Abdollah Heydari in the 71^st minute with Liu Ruofan rolling it down the middle as Peng dived to his right.

Yifang would sit bottom of the table after one draw and five defeats in the opening 6 games as we made one change as Wu Lei would drop out of the team for club Wen Jun to make his first appearance of the season after injury, also taking the captain’s armband. The skipper would score the only goal of the game 4 minutes after the break after playing a 1-2 with Djiteye although he’d come off a few minutes later with a knee injury (fortunately only a 2-3 week injury for the unlucky midfielder).

Fuli would sit in 14^th with 2 wins, a draw and 4 defeats from the first 7 games as we made one change with Wu Lei back into the team for Jun. A cross from the right was turned into the path of Kim Kyung-Hwan by Wei Tianlong to open the scoring in the 13^th minute before Lei would find Djiteye to level 4 minutes later. We would lead on 22 minutes as our Malian forward set up Nickson before Wu Lei was fouled for a penalty with 4 minutes to play with his spot kick knocking out a fan with Xu Xiong adding the third a couple of minutes from time from fellow sub Maclaren’s through ball.

Chengdu sit in 14^th place going into this game following 2 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats with ourselves again unchanged. The 3^rd minute saw us take the lead with Nickson’s corner headed in by Qi Fei before it would be doubled 2 minutes later as Wang Sheng would square it for Djiteye to score from 10 yards out. The third would come 10 minutes before the break with Wu Lei’s through ball allowing Nickson to score his 3^rd of the campaign while he would also add the fourth midway through the second half from sub Maclaren’s pass. Left-back Abdollah Heydari headed home the fifth from Nicko’s free-kick before Xu Xiong would leave the pitch with an ankle injury a couple of minutes from time (he’ll be out for 3-4 weeks).

Liu Chen gave the hosts a 9th minute lead from Fernandinho’s through-ball with their second coming 6 minutes after the break with Wang Zihao, against his former club, turning in Ansari’s cross before Zihao would turn provider for Zeng Wei to curl it into the top corner on 53 minutes. An off-day for ourselves here but we sit 5 points clear at the top following the opening 10 games.

Shandong would come into the game in third following 5 wins, 4 draws and one defeat as we made one change with Wen Jun returning to the starting 11 for Wu Lei. Qi Fei would head home from a Nickson corner against his former club to give us the lead on 13 minutes before Wang Sheng would double the lead from Su Yujie’s pass in the 36^th minute. The third would come 14 minutes from time with Nickson’s corner headed back across by Vinicius for his centre-back partner to score his second.

We took the lead on 39 minutes with Qi Fei a similar header to his second in the previous game, this time for Su Yujie’s corner before the hosts levelled a minute before half-time thanks to Xu Li’ao getting on the end of a low cross from Yan Xiaoyu from the Hangzhou right. After Wu Lei replacing Wang Sheng at the break (the former with a shin injury that’ll keep him out for a week), we retook the lead with Djiteye heading home a Nickson corner just after the hour-mark.

Wu Lu volleyed home a left-wing cross from Chen Minghui in the 4^th minute before we would equalise in the 20^th minute with Wen Jun finding Wu Lei with a through-ball to fire in at the near post.

International Career:

Feb 2018 – Feb 2023 Nigeria (Africa)

Out of the African Cup of Nations in the group stage in 2019, not playing in the tournament in 2021 (no idea why as I won all 6 qualifying games) before finishing bottom of the group in 2023 and rightly sacked.

Feb 2025 – present Egypt (Africa)

Had a break from international management but was offered both Egypt and Ghana as options post ’25 ACoN. Having already qualified for the World Cup (under the previous management), I’ll be using that to build towards the ACoN tournament the following winter in D.R. Congo.

As I am several years into the game at this point I will give you a run-down of the career to date in this and the next post.

Domestic Career:

July 2015 – Aug 2019 Fram (Iceland)

After spending time applying for what feels like hundreds of jobs, it was off to the Icelandic 2nd tier to manage Fram from the capital Reykjavik. With the league season running from May to September, it was a good chance for me to get a system in place for getting promoted the following season. After finishing 9th in my first half-season and 8th in my first full season, I made a number of signings to aim for promotion in 2017.

The 2017 season saw promotion as champions for the club thanks largely to my left winger getting into double figures for both goals and assists and even a cup final before the following season we managed to win both the Icelandic Premier League (the club’s top flight league since 1990), the Upper League Cup and a Manager of the Year award for me. I also picked up the Icelandic Cup in 2019 before resigning following our European campaign in late August (although I had contemplated sticking the rest of the season out seeing as I was top and unbeaten).

Jan 2020 – May 2025 Falkirk (Scotland)

Club 2 saw a move to Scotland and another second-tier club with Falkirk being the next job and a difficult challenge to keep us in the division as I had 12 games to overturn a 5 point deficit to the side above me. Not only did I overturn that deficit, I also stayed up that season after winning the relegation play-off.

Once again, it was about stability my first full season and improving towards getting a job in the SPL in the future. The 20/21 season saw me finish in 6th place while the following season saw another final as I lost the Challenge Cup final but promotion as champions. The first SPL season saw regen striker John Chalmers become the youngest SPL scorer in a season that saw us finish in a solid 8th place with an 11th place finish and survival via the relegation play-off the following season. My final season at Falkirk was one that I spent looking to move on to either a bigger SPL side (both Edinburgh clubs turned me down) before Rangers became the 3rd team to reject my advances. I had the last laugh over them though as I beat them in the 3rd meeting of the season before repeating the feat post-split as we finished in 10th place.

Sep 2025 – Dec 2025 Henan Jianye (China)

The last of my previous clubs sees a short 7 game spell in charge of strugglers Henan who were sitting in 15th of 16 when I took over with the bottom 2 going down. After 4 draws in the opening 5 games, it was the final 2 games that saw the first wins for the club since early in the season as relegation was avoided, with us finishing in 14th place. Both Guangzhou and Jiangsu had openings available post-season after finishing in 5th and 6th respectively, me taking the former of those roles.

In this thread we are looking at the progress of me doing the Ultimate Challenge career with the original thread being found here.

Basically, it’s my job to win 10 different top tier leagues (which have to include England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain), 10 cups in different countries that contain top tier clubs (i.e. For England we are looking at the League Cup or FA Cup and not something like the EFL Trophy), the 5 continental titles and Club World Cup at club level as well as the 5 confederations titles and the World Cup at international level.

Onto the 2018 season where it was our first season in the top flight and the Icelandic Liverpool (having not won it since 1990) only did it at the first attempt, earning me the Manager of the Year trophy in the process. Here are the results that made it possible.

It wasn't the only trophy that we won as we also picked up the Upper League Cup which is played before the league season starts so I'm not sure on whether to count it or not (think I should seeing as the minutes played are counted as competitive minutes in the minutes total). Despite this, I've signed a new 12-month extension to my deal ahead of my first shot at Champions League football but might stay on for the rest of the season depending on how we do in the Icelandic Cup.

I've also took over the Nigerian job, where we qualified for the ACoN easily but were poor as we went out in the group stage (although we had both Cameroon and Tunisia in our group). Like the Fram job, I have remained manager there for now.

2015 Season:

Took over midway through the season when the club were in 9th place and finished in the same position after these results. Had taken over the club after the club had been eliminated out of both cups.

2016 Season:

A slight improvement for this season as we finished in 8th place having made a number of signings that were mostly cover rather than first team quality and crashed out of both cups fairly early.

2017 Season:

Having made a number of signings (probably far too many considering a number were sent on language courses to learn Icelandic), we finished top of the second tier having won the league with a couple of games to play. Also made the Icelandic cup final where we lost 1-0 to Stjarnan and the quarter-finals of the Icelandic Upper Cup.

 

Since ending that season, we received the news that the club would also be moving into a new stadium in a couple of years time.

Squad is only 23 man, i'd leave out Wilshere even if he plays every game from here and think that Milner will go because of his versatility.
