  1. Obviously it's hard to replicate real life football fully in a game, but I do not think the two are mutually exclusive - whether or not a player follows your instructions imo should depend primarily on 1) the creative freedom you've given him and 2) his creativity & decisions ratings as a player (and his PPMs). Also mental rating factors (expressed in Personality profiles) & morale should/could play a part in how well a player copes under pressure and/or makes stupid decisions/mistakes - all of which could explain Nani's performance today & recently
  2. Almost 200 hours played. Had to keep forcing myself to give the game another chance, as I really did not enjoy this year compared to FM 12 (which was really great for a few seasons), but wanted to see if things changed for the better as I progressed. Unfortunately they did not. Match Engine is definitely the biggest problem overall and imo needs a lot of work to 1) make the football played much more realistic and 2) to actually make the players follow your tactical instructions in all aspects, not just some of them. But lots of other things need work too like contract demands being toned down (particularly for youth), it being far too easy to unsettle/poach & also get quality free transfers, AI squad building capability (or lack thereof by often buying weak players & paying way too much for them), and lots of other things as others have pointed out in this thread & feedback threads. Unless the ME is vastly improved for FM14, I definitely won't be buying it. 6/10
  3. Lol, that did cross my mind. But alas, there were serious in their intent to expand the stadium at a cost of almost £5385 per seat!
  4. So I'm playing with Tottenham and ever since I started the first season, I've been trying to get the board to build a new stadium as is happening in real life. No matter what logical justification, threat, or emotional blackmail tactic I used, the board gave me every excuse under the sun as to why it wasn't financially viable or why there wasn't the fanbase to do it. Ok, so I'll prove that the club is growing. I go and win the Premier League (and the Capital One Cup, yay!) in the first season as manager. End of season, I ask them again. Still no. So, next season I pull off the unthinkable. I win the Champions League, Premier League, Capital One Cup and even the Community Shield. Surely an absolutely epic quadruple against all odds by the perennial underdogs will boost Spurs' fanbase and give economic justification for an increased capacity stadium. And surely enough, the board decided that it did: Hurray!!!!1
  5. Yeah, I saw that. Absolutely insane, the ref must've had a bad week with the Missus. More believable though, as it could objectively be seen as a direct form of dissent. Mind you, Di Maria would be one of the candidates I would nominate if I had to choose players most likely to be sent off for diving twice too!
  6. This proves that FM12 was a brilliantly realistic game! jk You're absolutely right. I'd like to know if this ever happened in real life because I seriously have my doubts. Not only would most players not be stupid enough to risk it on a yellow, but more to the point as you said, I cannot imagine a referee actually having the guts to send someone off for this repeatable offence. A fatwa would be called indeed! Glad to know that I'm not the only one its happened to then. I would've been mighty annoyed if I had lost because of it. Thankfully, the 2 goal cushion was enough and I managed to play a False Nine (without a real Nine!) and hold onto the lead for the rest of the match.
  7. Haha, just wondering if anyone else had this happen to them. Playing with Tottenham, Defoe started the match brilliantly - 2 goals by the 25th minute against QPR. Goes down in the box after a challenge in the 40th, ref says he dived & gives him a yellow card. Fair enough, it happens. TWO minutes later, a cross comes in towards him, he goes down under another challenge and ref says he dived again. Second yellow, he's off!! Two goals & two yellow cards for diving before the first half is even over. Anyone else have a player sent off for the same absurd reason or is my FM's incarnation of Kevin Friend simply no friend, but a foe of Defoe?
  8. A quick few negatives regarding loose ball situations. Not gamebreakers, but they are constant annoyances which can hopefully be fixed: 1) If the ball is loose and going towards the keeper or goal line and he is under no pressure by opposition, he will still almost always leave the ball to go out for a goal kick rather than claim it. This doesn't happen in real life - keepers obviously much prefer to stop it going out so they can restart play with a short throw, etc but the AI on both sides will leave the ball instead. 2) If the defending side clears the ball away from a free kick/corner, they seem more eager to chase down the loose ball, whilst the offensive players who had stayed deep will often watch the opposition go for the ball and THEN chase the opposition, rather than try to claim the ball first or at least stay level with the opponent. They seem as an afterthought to go after the player who now already has a massive head start on them. 3) Often when a ball looks to be going out but still possibly could be stopped, all players often just give up and let it go out. This could just be a display issue in 3d, but it seems that irl players will try much harder to stop the ball going out than they do in the game. One other thing I've noticed which is quite annoying - if a long or through ball is played in the air towards a striker or winger in space, they will often head the ball on even if there are NO MORE of their players further up the pitch. Completely illogical and ruins a lot of clever attacking plays when, for instance, the play is switched flanks with a pass towards a winger in space. Instead of trying to control the ball and then run at the opponents as would happen in real life, all too often the winger will head the ball onwards to nobody or into touch! The same often happens when a clever ball is played up towards a lone striker, who then will often head the ball onwards to.. nobody!
  9. Posted a new thread in the forum but had it closed & advised to post in this thread, even though it wasn't feedback per se! Anyhow... I'm wondering if someone could please post a video of a winger or an inside forward cutting in from the wing behind their marker, receiving a through ball from a central midfielder or striker & then scoring a goal. I'm trying to play a 4-2-3-1, have wingers/inside forwards set to cut inside, roam from position, run from deep often, etc & I simply am not seeing any through balls delivered to them, which kind of defeats the purpose of trying to play this tactic! Can someone please post a video of it actually happening, so I know that it is indeed a possibility with the latest update. Thanks.

  11. Started a new game & still in the pre-season, so too early to post full feedback yet. My first impressions, though, are that the game plays out A LOT more like a real football match compared to the last patch, so it would appear a definite step in the right direction. Will post more feedback further into the season, but thought I'd post this amusing goal that just happened. Even though I was the scorer, I hope goals like these are a rarity!! [video=youtube;lfhqJlJ5oDI] It was actually meant to be a through ball to Bale on the other flank. Not sure what I should be more surprised about - that Lennon's passing accuracy was so awful or that the ball went into the net!! Had a similar goal happen the match before, with Naughton doing something similar on the other flank trying to find Defoe with a pass/cross. That one was disallowed though, as the referee adjudged Defoe to have pushed the central defender
  12. Sir, you are my new best friend!
