  1. Summer 2016 - Transfers I was looking to strengthen the squad in the hopes to build on last season's success but also had to deal with the increased demand for my players. Transfers In: Tielemans (Anderlecht) - Free - Signed to a pre contract deal in January and very happy to get him for nothing. Very reasonable wages at 35k per week. World-class potential and my playmaker in the middle for as long as I can hold him Neves (Porto) - 15 Million - another one with an extremely bright future. Will have him and Kranevitter rotate in the DM role for my team Koval (Kyiv) - 15 Million - top notch keeper who somehow I managed to sign to a 15K per week contract. Definite #1 goalie Stones (Arsenal) - 23 Million - versatile young player who will be the starter at RB. Grimaldo (Barcelona) Loan - another Barca product to start on at LB. 50% salary contribution Out: Mayke to Arsenal - 30 Million - Arsenal tapped him up and met his release clause in his contract. Tried to renegotiate before the bid but he wanted 120K per week which I wasn't about to give him. He is on 95K a Week at Arsenal. I feel the swap of him for Stones is great for many reasons leaves me ahead 7M in transfer money, 35k per week in wages better and Stones will fill a home grown spot. Taylor to Liverpool - 7.5 Million - did not want to sell him but Liverpool had interest and it is his favourite club. Grimaldo will fill in his slot as the starter at LB Bartley to WBA - 7.5 Million - wasn't happy being the 4th CB on the squad so when WBA came for him I was happy to oblige. I have an 18 year old regen who will fit in nicely in his spot. Alli to Man City - 30 Million - as soon as City expressed interest he was wanting to go. Structured the deal where we get 30 percent of the next sale on top of the 30million. He played extremely well for me and has grown into an full England international but he wanted to go and sit on City's bench for 95k per week. Hope he does not turn out to be the next Scott Sinclair Zabret to Crystal Palace - 400 k - reached his ceiling in terms of development and was not likely to get a game as Fabianski is now the back up. Very happy with the transfers as we made a 14 Million profit while improving the team. I hope that most of the new blood will be in the first team for years to come. The plan is to keep improving the club's facilities and its reputation so I am able to hold on to my important players longer.
  2. 2015-2016 EPL - 2nd place on goal difference behind Chelsea. 85 points and a +47 goal difference. Threw away the title by dropping points against Chelsea when they tied the game in the 93rd minute and losing to bottom side Wigan. Dyer (27 games/7g/11A/7.34avg) and Balanta (29games/7.40 Avg) named as starters on Select Team of the Year while Bony and Mayke were subs. Champions League - runner up - lost to Bayern 3-2. Excellent foray into the Champs League. Finished 2nd to AC Milan in Group with PSV, R Madrid and AC Milan (tied RMadrid on points but went thru on goal diff). Record was 2W3D1L with the only loss away to Milan. Knocked out Barca (6-3 agg with a convincing 5-1 home win) Juventus and AC Milan on my way to the final FA Cup - Winners 1-0 over Man City in the final. League Cup - Winners 3-1 over Spurs. Played the second string for both my Cup runs and was really impressed with the results. So close to the ultimate season. Starting to turn the club into one that can compete on multiple fronts. Very solid at the back and thru the middle. Need to start hitting a few more goals but the cannot complain too much. Starting to use the 4123 formation as the squad gets stronger and only use the 4141 for tough away matches.
  3. Solved the problem of the Amat departure by securing Balanta from River Plate for 8 M. Pretty good deal in my book! Also loaned in Powell from Man U as Ki is injured for 10 weeks at the start of the season. Here is my team for the upcomins season: GK - Fabianski, Zabret RB - Mayke, Richards CD - Fernandez, Williams, Balanta, Bartley LB - Taylor, Kingsley DM - Kranevitter, Britton, Ajer CM - Pereyra, Sigurdsson, Shelvey, Ki, Powell RM/AMR - Dyer, Grealish LM/AML - Savitsky, Montero ST - Bony, Malcolm, Tudorie
  4. Well it has been awhile but I thought I would update the progress of my Swansea save. 2014 - 2015 EPL - Champions!!!! Amazing performance from the boys. Record was 30w 4d 4L for 94 points, 16 points better than 2nd place chelsea. Clinched the title with 4 games left in the season. 6 players in the Team of the year: Fabianski (22 clean sheets, won Golden Gloves, Fernandez, Rangel, Sigurdsson, Dyer and Bony (Golden Boot winner withe 20 goals in 30 games). Dyer was named Player of the Year (29 Games, 11 goals, 14 Assists, 7.48 Avg.) We were very consistent and the defence was the best in the league. COC - lost in the Semi Final to Man City 2-1 on aggregate. Very strong run by the second string squad FA Cup - lost in 3rd Round 1-0 to Birmingham. Very poor result and the board was still quite concerned by the result at the end of the season even though we had won the league! Of the transfers in Dele Alli (3M from MK Dons) is really progressing well and is now pushing for a starting spot. Ajer is developing nicely and will certainly be a key member in a couple of season. Savitsky came on in January but has not shown much due to injury. 2015 Summer To build on the success the board gave me a 25million pound was chest in order to achieve Qualification for Europe. I like to get all my transfers done early in order to get the squad playing together for as long as possible in the pre season. Looking to add quality and depth to the side, especially at RB (Rangel was great but a little to old for my liking) and DM as Britton was injured alot and is aging quickly: still a great tutor but not a first teamer. Tranfers IN: Tudorie (Otelul) - 1.8 M - a depth signing up front with room to grow. Pereyra (Juventus) - Free- definite first team player and signed to a reasonable 40K per week Grealish (Villa) -1.1 - massive potential who can play both flanks Mayke (Cruziero) 8 M - starting right back who still has loads of potential Malcolm (Corinthians) 10 M - forced by Gomis demanding a transfer I splurged on the player who will potentially be world class Kranevitter (River Plate)- 7 M - pencilled in as the starting DM Tranfers Out Barrow - Wolves 525K - depth player who was not good enough Routledge - West Ham 3.5 M - actually played well for me but is under rated in the game. Michu - Porto 8.5M - don't play an AMC in my systems so he did not fit Emnes - Ipswich 500 K- never had much playing time as he is crap in the game Rangel - West Ham 1.1 M - sad to see him go but I feel comfortable with Mayke replacing him and Richards as the back up Gomis - Leicester 4.75 M - never really had the opportunity to play extensively as I only use 1 striker in my formation and Bony is awesome. Happy to get his large wage pack off the books Amat - Valencia 10.25 M plus 40% of next sale - wanted to keep him but Valencia were interested. He wanted to renegotiate his contract to 60k per week in order to stay so had no real choice but to sell him. Now I have to start looking for another CB and it is one week till the deadline.
  5. Trying to stall the decision until I am able to increase the percentage of transfer monies to spend. Currently at 30% so that would only increase the transfer kitty by 20 million.
  6. Back into my Swans save after time off for the holiday. Right now we are at the end of the transfer window in Season 1 and the results have been outstanding in the league where we are firmly in first place by a whopping 10 points. Our record for Dec and Jan was 7 wins 2 draws and 1 defeat. Lost to Southampton away and tied City and Sunderland, also away. The Liberty has been turned into a veritable fortress as we have a perfect home record after 11 games. Lost Bony to the African Cup for the month of January and first week of February so we have not been a high scoring outfit. We did manage to 3w and a draw in the games Bony has missed but we only scored 4 goals. Gomis has scored 3 in the four games, all game winners. Defence has carried the team as we have four clean sheets on the trot in the League. Managed to get to the League Cup Semi where we were knocked out by Man City after a 2-1 loss at the Etihad and 0-0 home. I played the backups exclusively for the cups and we went far in the League Cup but got knocked out by Birmingham 1-0 in the third round of the FA Cup. Only have the league to concentrate on now so our lack of depth should not hurt us much. Transfers: very quiet as the only player in was Savitsky on a Free. Tried to transfer out the weaker players in the squad but the only one to leave was Cornell to, of all places, Man City for 25k.
  7. Dilemna for me after the 1st season: Arsenal asked about the availability of Sturridge who is valued at 29 M. I quoted 75 M and they came back with 70.5 M, with 67M up front. What to do??
  8. first season update continued our excellent form in the league as we won our first ten games in a row before losing away to liverpool 2-3 on at injury time own goal by ash. have an amazing record of 12w 0d 1L at the end of the month and a 9 point lead over chelsea. defense has been the key as we have let only 7 goals in 13 league games. Bony and Dyer have been the catalysts for the team with 10 and 9 goals respectively over the season. Gylfi has been very good is his CM Roaming Playmaker role with 1 goal but 9 assists. Routledge has stepped up for an injured Montero and clinched the November Player of the Month award with 5 goals and 2 assists in 4 games. crazy league so far as the two manchester teams and arsenal are struggling and all their managers are on the hot seat. we are thru to quarters of the league cup after a 2-1 victory away to Derby thanks to a 35 yard piledriver goal by jonjo. usual busy december coming up with 6 league games and a league cup away to spurs.
  9. Started my annual Swansea save so I am looking forward to seeing how far I can go with the team. Decided to not have a large turnover in the squad. I feel the squad is strong and I have alot of affection for the old stalwarts of the team such as Williams, Britton and Rangel. Will try not sell Bony at any cost. Transfers IN: Dele Alli - 3 M from MK Dons. Backup for first team and potential star for the future Ajer - 10 K from Start (one for the future) Traore - loan from Barcelona to provide depth on the right side. Out: Tate 275 K Birmingham - not good enough to play and had no future in the team Cornell - 25 K Man City - kind of a weird place for him to go Tactics: three tactics to chose from 4141 - more of a structured formation that will be for of a counter attack strategy that will utilize the speed on the outside in the squad 4123 - little more of an aggressive strategy that pushes the wide players higher up the field 442 Narrow - specifically designed to get Bony and Gomis on the field at the same time as well as moving Gylfi higher up Preseason was good as I took the team on a training camp in the USA. 10 games played with 8 wins and 2 draws. Now on the the season. August and September EPL (A) Man U 3-1 - Routledge, Bony, OG - great start to the season. Luckily did not have to face Rooney, RVP and Di Maria due to injury EPL (H) Arsenal 1-0 - Dyer - excellent game by the team and we should have won by more COC (A) Wycombe - 4-2 - Traore Gomis Carroll Sheehan - good game for the backups and youngsters EPL (A) Newcastle 2-1 - Dyer Bony EPL (H) Sunderland 4-1 - Bony 2, Fernandez, Montero EPL (A) West Brom - 3-0 - Dyer 3 - Dyer has been a force for the team all season COC (H) Leyton Orient 1-0 - Sheehan - hard fought game that we scraped thru thanks to a late winner EPL (H) Chelsea 4-1 - Gomis 2, Bony 2 - broke out the 442 diamond formation due to injuries and suspension. Absolutely ecstatic with the perfomance of the team. 100 % record and we are 5 points clear of Chelsea and Man U. Dyer has been unplayable in the wide midfielder attack role in our 4141 formation. Ki has been deployed in the Anchor Man role and has played very well. We have been strong defensively with Williams/Fernandez being the centre back combo.
  10. Long time player but first time to post in the Liverpool thread so here goes. EPL - Ten games into the season and we are dominating the league. 9 wins and 1 draw with no losses. 33 goals for in the league and 9 against. Beat ManU 5-2 (H) and crushed Arsenal 6-0 (H). Only dropped points was a 2-2 away to Chelsea. Champions League - in a group with PSG, Barcelona and RB Salzburg and have managed a 100% record. PSG 2-1 (H), Barcelona 2-1 (A) and RBSalz 5-1 (A). Have Salzburg at home next game so I should be able to clinch passage thru to the next round. League Cup - thru to Quarters after beating Yeovil and Villa. Meet up with the Hammers away next round. Tactics - have three tactics that I use. 4141 rigid style which is a great setup for tough road games, 4123 which I use against tough games at home and an Assymetrical 433 that I developed for home and road games against weaker teams. I am averaging three goals a game for and 1 against. The only game I was dominated was the road game v Barcelona but I managed to pull out a win. Performance - Sterling (9 App 11G 4A 8.32 AVG) Balotelli (8App 6G 5A 7.99 AVG) and Sturridge (9App 5G 4A 7.99) are the attacking trident that has been leading the way. In the midfield Lucas has been excellent and so has Hendo. On the D Skrtel has been dominant (7.95 Avg). Coutinho, Markovic and Lallana have not preformed as well due to injuries and and tactical decision. Transfers in- Usual candidates of Horn (3.8 M) Balanta (7M) Romero (8 M) and Odegaard. No transfers out but not for lack of trying. RMadrid came in with a bid for Skrtel (10M) which I accepted and Inter agreed to a 12 M bid for Borini. Both moves collapsed as both teams were unable to come up with the funds to finalize the deals. Skrtel responded but being unhappy but has played lights out for me. Borini is a bit part and I am hoping to move him on during the next transfer window. The team is playing really well and morale is very high. Have had a continual stream of players my office complaining about lack of playing time, Lallana, Markovic and Coutinho being the chief whingers. Can see that the practice of having bloated squads like in past FMS is not going to be doable. I am looking to streamline the squad but the candidates that I was going to move like Johnson, Lucas and Skrtel have just played too well.
  11. Finished my 2016/17 season after taking a month off due to work and Olympic watching. Will not give the extended game by game updates but I will tell you the results. EPL : Champions - three in a row. 11 point gap over Man City in second. City, Man U and Chelsea were not very consistent making it an easy go. Had a 15 point lead in early April. Won 26 Drew 9 Lost 3 - 87 points. We were the top scoring team with 81 goals, with Bony being my top scorer with 12 goals. We really spread the scoring around as 10 players end up with 6 goals or more. Amazingly none of my players made the Premier Division Select team but I was voted Manager of the Year ECC : out in the first knockout round by losing to Bayern Munich 2-1. Dominated both legs but came up short in the finishing department. Won my group that had Dortmund, PSV and Dinamo Zagreb FA CUP : Winners - beat Wigan 2 - 0 in the final. Avoided most of the big teams along the way. We beat Derby 2-1 (H), Norwich 4-1 (A), Newcastle 3-0 (H), Watford 5-3 (A), Reading 1-0 in the Semi's. Played mostly a back up team most of the way except the final League Cup - out at the first hurdle for the fourth straight time but this time we lost to a full strength Chelsea 2-1 (A) Another great season for the Swans. Consistently out play the opposition in every game but tend to struggle to score in the big games. May have to tweak the tactics a little in order to get more goals. Played more of the 41221 with wingers as Brandt and Salah are very effective for me. Michu had a down year due to injuries. My defense was extremely good with Balanta and Romagnoli the first choice pairing in the centre and Davies his usual outstanding form on the left. Strength of the team is the midfield as we have lots of depth and quality. Transfers In: Hector Canteros - Free- solid player who is the the midfield rotation Lorenzo Criestig - 11.5 Million from Parma - excellent addition who can play as a DM and MC Marco Van Ginkel - 3.9 Million from Chelsea - Good AMC with potential to be great. Bunch of regens from all over the world. Transfer Out: Gwion Edwards - 1.2 Million Derby - good price for someone who was not going to be good enough for our squad. Josh Sheehan - 300 k Leeds - was never going to play so had to get some monies Thom Haye - 3 Million Herenveen - signed on a free after the first season but never progressed. Objectives going forward are to renew the squad a little by moving on some of the seasoned veterans who have plateaued or no longer first choice (Michu, Williams, Ruffier) After Euro 2016 there were several coaching vacancies in the international level but two interested me: England and Spain. England laughed off my application while Spain offered me the job which I took. There squad is still very good but a little weak in defense. No problems in World Cup Qualifying as we have won all 5 games.
  12. Qualifying for Champs League is a great achievement in the first season. I have not been able to get Bony to score more than 17 goals in the league in the four seasons that I have played. He is very streaky as he will go six games without a goal then rattle off 6 goals in 4 games.
  13. May Prem ManU 2 v Swans 1 (Roberto) we were totally outplayed and we almost managed to steal a point. Prem Swans 0 v Arsenal 1 - somehow lost the game even though we had 14 shots on net to their 1. A couple of mean nothing games for the team as we had clinched the title already. So here is a run down of the 2015-16 season: EPL - Champions for the second year in a row. We ended up with 89 points (27w 8d 3l) which was 8 points up on Chelsea. We scored the most goals (77) and let in the least (27). Our top league scorer was Bony with 11 so we really shared the scoring load around. Champs League - lost in the Quarters to Real Madrid 5-2. Topped our qualifying group which had B. Munich in it. FA Cup - out in the 4th Round to Stoke League Cup - out in the 3rd round for the third straight year. I know I do not value the competition but one of these years we will win one game even if I have to dress the starters Players Player of the Year - Sergi Roberto (26games, 4g, 7a, 7.19 Avg) Manager of the Year - repeat winner for myself Roberto, Davies and Balanta all named to the Premier Division Select team. Pretty good year with the win in the League and making the Quarters of the Champs League. Cup success continues to elude us and will only come with the growth of the squad. The defense as a whole performed excellently, especially Davies, Balanta and Strandberg (who was my second leading goal scorer). Midfielders performed well with Will Hughes, Maclellan (regen) and Roberto being the stars. A bit of a down year for Michu but he was hampered by injury and tactics. Injuries blighted the season for Salah and Brandt, but Dyer was consistent. Up front Bony only scored 16 goals in 41 games while Zivkovic proved to be very streaky. Need more from Michu and Bony next season or will think about moving them on before they decline.
  14. March 2016 Prem Newcastle 1 v Swans 2 (Balanta, OG) good road win that had an nervy end due to typical late goal given up and then we were under the kosh for the last 5 Prem Swans 3 v Norwich 2 ( Michu, Strandberg, OG) - wide open action packed affair. ECC Swans 2 v Shakhtar 1 (Williams, Zivkovic) up 2-0 at half and we then stopped playing. They dominated us in the second but could only register the one goal. We have Real Madrid in the next round. Prem Wigan 1 v Swans 1 ( Strandberg) very tight affair against a surprise top 8 team. Very even game ECC Swans 1 v RMadrid 0 (Michu) - we totally dominated a full strength Real team and we should have won by 3 or 4. Hit the woodwork 5 times and had to rely on a cracking goal from Michu to secure the win. Our Prem lead is now 11 points over Chelsea with 6 games left so barring a total collapse we should repeat as league champs. Would have liked to have had a bigger advantage for the second leg in Madrid April Prem Swans 1 v Villa 0 (Bony) Bony finally scores after going close to two months without a goal. Limited them to 1 shot at target and 30% possession. ECC R Madrid 5 v Swans 1 ( Zivkovic) crazy game. We score in the first minute and are tied at half. Even game up until the 65th minute when they score to go 2-1 up, but we are ahead on aggregate. 85th minute Ruffier tries to dangle by Ronaldo who strips him and fires in the empty net. They add two late goals (one OG from Ruffier and another a speculative 40 yard shot from Bale that Ruffier does not move for) for a 5-1 win. Basically Ruffier costs us the match and he ended up with a 5.2 rating. Going to play my regen Norwegian goalie the rest of the way Prem Swans 2 v Hull 0 (Zivkovic, Michu) comprehensive home win clinches the title for us. Two in a row!!!!!! Prem Southampton 2 v Swans 4 (Dyer Roberto Davies Zivkovic) up 4-0 after 60 minutes and then gave up two against 10 men. Prem Swans 2 v Everton 0 (Bony 2) Bony has been in good form just not getting enough goals for me this season Clinched the Premier title with 4 games to go and have a 14 point lead of Chelsea. Tough result in the Champs League Quarters but it was against a full strength Real Madrid side. The 5-2 aggregate score flattered them but sometimes things don't go your way. Contemplating another change in the keeper position as Ruffier has been OK but has not been that dominant and our second stringer, a 18 year old Norwegian regen with 4.5 star potential, is just not ready for the first string position.
  15. February 2016 FA Cup Stoke 2 v Swans 2 (Hughes, Alex) lost in a shoot out but I am not too disappointed as we have League and Champs League to worry about and the squad is not that deep where we can compete on more than two fronts Prem LFC 1 v Swans 1 (Bony) dominated the game but couldn't put it away Prem Swans 2 v Man City 2 ( OG, Shelvey) classic end to end game. The first time we have not beaten City in the League Prem Swans 4 v Blackburn 0 (Strandberg, Thorne, Dyer, Brandt) completely owned this game as they had no shots and under 35% possession. Salah returned after 4 months off and got injured for three weeks after a 7 minute cameo ECC Shaktar 2 v Swans 3 ( Roberto, Shelvey, Balanta) up 3 - 0 after 60 minutes almost saw me throw the game away at the end. Prem Spurs 1 v Swans 3 (Strandberg, Michu, Zivkovic) great team performance in a place that is hard to win Still have a 8 point lead over 2nd place Chelsea with 9 games left to play. Looking good in the Champs League
