Well, I've been to Wimbledon, Lord's and the Bridge, and I prefer Róisín Murphy to Lady Gaga, so not your typical American, I suppose.

  1. Apparently so. I was surprised to see it on the list to begin with, it goes against Steam's philosophy of achievements always applying to something you do in-game to earn. I have no idea what rules they give to SI, however.
  2. The Achievements page should be displaying correctly now. Setups for new games aren't always perfect, alas. You should not have missed any achievements earned while playing. Anyone who has activated the game on Steam (which in theory is everybody!) can have Steam track the achievements, but it will only update your Community page, where other people can see them, each time you play online.
  3. In a previouis thread, it was stated that MLS is hard-coded to be 18 teams. You could only add Montreal in the editor if you first took out someone else.
  4. Well I was hoping this year I'd be the first Yank to crack the Steam Achievement for winning the MLS Cup, but there's a slight hiccup...
  5. I have a feeling it's going to go something more like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZpfcSIhsi4
  6. No all nighters necessary in the US. Start with some fresh lasagna, spinach salad, beer, big bag of kettle corn, flip on the TV for the World Series in the background... good to go.
  7. If Steam doesn't like your Paypal account, for whatever reason, it won't complete the purchase. You would have to open a Steam support ticket, no one else can help with that. Steam's anti-fraud measures are extremely aggressive, and they can sometimes be a bit over-zealous.
  8. TF2 is like watching a pack of sewer rats on acid. Sonic is pure, clean fun. Looking forward to Sonic Generations.
  9. FM is easy peasy compared to when Steam has its biggest crunch time: at 10 AM US Pacific the day the big holiday sale begins.
  10. One benefit of Steam is, if you need to /rage after a tough loss, you can vent your frustrations by plaing some Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing. I wish they still had Sonic Rally Revo on Steam, but that's a whole 'nother story.
  11. With either the Mac or the Windows Steam client, the resources it uses in the background are related to the Steam overlay and other Steam Community features. These can be turned off, either globally or for a specific game, and that should reduce your background CPU utilization to almost zero. The global check-box is within the Steam "Settings" menu under the "In-Game" tab. For a specific game, the check-box is in the Properties -> General tab. If you leave these features turned on, the Steam client will be constantly checking to see if any of your friends are online, and if they are, which games they are playing. If you don't have any friends, well, it still checks anyway, it is a very optimistic client. If you're offline, this doesn't matter; it will still periodically wake up and check to see if you're back online or not, which only takes an instant.
  12. That's not a laptop, it's a netbook, and a very low-end one at that. You can't use netbooks for higher-end PC games like FM. My laptop has a dual-core 3 GHz CPU, 8 GB of memory, a Radeon HD 4760 GPU with 1 GB video memory, and a 500 GB HD internal + 1 TB external. Appropriate for mid-range gaming, but even that isn't enough for the latest high-end stuff. Runs FM just fine though.
  13. The pre-load button should appear immediately below where it says "Football Manager 2012" in the right-hand side of the client window. A double-left mouse click on the game name in the library should also work. If neither of those work, restart your Steam client. If that doesn't change anything either, you would have to open a Steam support ticket. If you purchased directly from Steam, they sometimes have an issue with payments. EDIT: If your network connection is having problems, just keep trying.
  14. FM09 and FM10 are no longer for sale on Steam, but you can still add them to your library if you have your retail keys.
