Sorry for hijacking, so cautious with a high line and LOE combined with counter press was ok, thanks for clearing that up.

You can play any mentality with counter press. At least that's what I do and I'm having quite good succes. I have to say that 90% of the time I play positive, but I also use cautious, sometimes defensive and attacking. My base TI are always the same, I just switch the mentality when needed. I always play high def. line(not the highest) with the highest possible LOE, with tight marking and extremely urgent pressing. It works well on any mentality. If leading late in the game, Sometimes I switch off counter press, but that's it.

  2. I started a new save with Milan. It's going fine, we are on a good run of form atm and sitting in 3rd place. I have to say tha Suso is really bad for me, and I think he will be the first one to be sold. With a price of 40mil and Real Madrid interested , I'm hoping to get at least 60-70mil for him.

What's the financial situtation with Milan after the 1st season? What transfer budget am I to expect? My #1 priority in the summer is Nicolo Barella, but also I am lurking at Federico Chiesa. Not sure there will be enough money to go for him though.

  3. This tactic is absolutely a monster.

It produces a LOT of long shots, but is absolutely dominating in every game. You will have scoring from the front 4 and BBM.

I've tried to tone down the number of long shots and to produce more CCC by using work ball to box on lower mentality but it doesn't seem to help a lot. There can be games where you will concede from just a couple of shots due to the high line and fail to score enough and lose or draw but it's like very very rare. Usually it is problematic against ******,park the bus opposition where you won't suceed in breaking them. But after you score first goal it's a walk in the park. Against tougher and stronger teams who will attack you this is just insanely good.

I have tried this with HSV, Real Madrid and Racing and it worked in all 3 saves like a charm.

To be honest, I don't know why exactly. I would never build this kind of tactic with so few attack duties and such aggressive full back roles with basically no real DM but it works.

I only switch DLF/A to PF/A. But both work fine, it's just my preference. Also I change the mentality sometimes , switching between balanced and positive usually. When failing to break down the opposition or chasing the game, you can go to attacking/very attacking and put attack duties for fullbacks and/or IF's.

  4. Help!

I can not decide what save to start. I have two options. One is FC Laussane form Switzerland 2.tier, a club with foreground sugar daddy. The other is Chivas Guadalajara form Liga MX. A club who can only buy and use Mexican nationality players.

Lausanne save would be like a long term one club save and the other would be more of a Latin America save with changing clubs and leagues.

But I just can't decide what to do and always load up my current HSV save..

    Official 19.3 ME "complaints"/inbalances:

    - strikers still miss too many sitters, but to compensate keepers parry too many shots into the path of strikers (or whoever else is around the area). The result is sometimes a comical game of pinball where striker misses a sitter, keeper parries it back to striker, striker misses again, it falls to him again and then he finally scores.

    - I've yet to see a player win the byline and decide to put in a low cross for a midfielder that arrives late to the area. Players who put in crosses only see the keepers box and fail to spot other unmarked players. However, midfielders score a lot from rebounds of parried and blocked shots...

    - Finishing seems more accurate from slightly angled positions than from the penalty spot, it's comical. Wingers on a sit narrower instruction attacking the far post, are better than strikers on a central position.

    - Morale and home/away factor feels too powerful, players will have magical surges of pace and anticipation when they're motivated. This leads to morale stacking up and causing a bit of a butterfly effect within a match, score a goal you score 5, the next day you concede 1 you concede 5.

    - This has been a constant ever since the first release of '19 but the assistant manager team talk advice is beyond awful. The assistant manager wants me to be far too harsh on the players.

    The good stuff:

    - Overly attacking play seems to be punished a bit now, which didn't feel like it in recent MEs.

    - As is well known, F9 and DLF/S movement is fixed.

Funny. After the update I was not able to get any consistency with my previous tactic which worked fine on 19.2. I switched and changed, trying everything possible an still couldn't get anything to work. There was games I'd win, and then lose the next one with my team not playing very well neither while winning nor losing.

And then I said, **** it, and created gegenpressing on attacking mentality and from there we went on an unbeaten run to finish the season and secure Europa League spot. Not just unbeaten run, but bossing the games. So now, I decided to stick with it for next season and see how it goes. And just to be clear, I'm not playing with some powerhouse club, I'm HSV entering my 6th season. Previous positions in 1.Bundesliga were 15th, 7th, 3rd, 6th.

  6. Why is HSV board so cheap? I'm in the season 2022/23, and we managed to qualify for the CL football. In the beginning of the game HSV has some big debts but all of them are paid by this point, there is only one left ant it's just 240k per month which is easily manageable. I have 120mil in the bank, wages under control below the budget, and still my transfer budget for the season is only 25mil euros?? We have a 57000 stadium with average attendance at almost full house, I'm getting tired of this to be honest. Every season 20mil transfer budget, and it was fine because we didn't really have that much cash and were not playing in the CL but now this, with big stadium, very small debt, and 100mil in the bank and still only 25mil for new players?

And, the option to ask for more money is not there also. It's quite demotivating not being able to strenghten the squad properly knownig there is lots of cash just sitting in the balance for no reason.

I'm not ready to criticize ME yet. Surprisingly I see some improvements this years, but many many flaws too already.

But the transfer system.. I mean it's been like this for ages, but this year it is especially bad.

    - Most of the times you can't sell a player, who spent a great season, even for his value. My winger is at 27, made 14 assists and scored 9 goals. We won a league.
He still costs pity $42 mil, but still I can't sell him even for 30.. best offer were 16 in 3 instalments plus some useless bonuses. Pff. And it's not something about this certain player,
it's just an example. The whole systems works like this.

But when you trying to buy something..

    - Some relatively talented youngster 17, from some balkan league, with 3 stars, really nothing special. Millions miles away from being possible star in the future. He costs 350k.
Guess what? AI asking $96 millions for him. And nah, AI won't agree even for 50, I made an offer just for testing purposes.
I don't know what to say here.
And yeah, every deal involving young player AI demands 50% of the profit of next sale as a must. Every single deal. So terribly realistic. I don't see many real world transfers with such dumb clause, tbh I can't recall even single one.

    - Last thing that frustrated me to the point that I don't want to launch FM anymore.. I agreed a transfer, about $3.8m for a pretty average player, I just needed him for a squad depth purposes.
He play for a low rep team, who just promoted from lower league, moreover he had no playing time there, so he was extremely interested in joining. When contract talks started, suddenly he demanded $4,8m singing on fee (almost 3 times of his market value and more than whole transfer).. salary of $4m (he earn $377k in his current club) plus $2.5m as agent fee and of course tons of other bonuses. I had a good laugh, but I still tried to negotiate this nonsense deal, I just lowered singing on fee to $2m and salary to $3m, not touching anything else.. and guess what? He stormed out and don't want to talk with me anymore. Okay...

    - And yeah, some time before this last drop that made me quit the game for uncertain period of time, I tried to sign De Ligt from Ajax. Guess what, before I approached this guy, nobody even cared about him.
But as I made a bit, suddenly like 6-7 top rated clubs made their bids too. No news here tho, it worked like this for many years. The thing that actually killed me here is the fact that they sold him to Chelsea for $36m with no other clauses (I checked), yet they asked $56m +50% of future transfer fee from me. Not a penny less. Amazing. Now tell me transfer system is not biased towards player.

And tons and tons of other BS. Seriously, after so many years of transfer system being in such awful state, they somehow managed to made it even worse this year.

I'd like to see a screenshot of this. Let me guess..you don't have it.

We're sittiing top of the league and flying through our Champions League group.Pereira is doing very nicely and I made a killing on the De Gea deal.

    That weird to you?

yes. selling world class level keeper and playing 3 star keeper at best because "you made a killing" is just stupid if you are ManUtd who have so much money they don't need to sell nobody never and still can splash 200mil every summer. Beginning of 3rd season I have 509 mil in balance with 350mil transfer budget without selling anyone! Why on earth would I want to sell De Gea for 80 mil more??

  9. Finished my 2nd season, won the league with 100 points, only two losses. Got knocked out in CL semis by Atletico and won FA cup. I was planning to sell Sanchez this summer and bring right winger but no one wants to sign him. He is 31 and costs 78mil with ludicrous wages so no wonder.

So I only bought Eder Militao from Porto who has 50mil release clause and is an absolute monster of a player, can play right back, central defender and def midfield and is natural in all positions, just a brilliant player.

    My team is:

    De Gea/Horn - Guerreiro/Vagnoman, De Ligt/Tuanzebe, Varane/Lindelof, Militao/Valencia - Matić/Fred, Pogba/Perreira, Milinković Savić/Herrera - Lingard/Sanchez, Martial/Rashford, Lukaku/Werner

Thanks for sharing; couple of questions, please - how do you find the goal/assit variety with this set-up? Are your team managing to create clear chances from open play witohut relying on crosses? Also, how has Arp performed as a DLF? His record for me is actually fairly good but his stats are padded with a high percentage of penalties and rebounds so i've been pretty underwhelmed...

I'm scoring some goals from direct passes over the defence for Arp, or crosses. Idk, didn't really study the manner with which I score. But I like how we play in general in terms of controling the game. Arp scored 23 goals in 2.Bundesliga, but also was very good with keeping the ball and distributing it to the flanks. He was my best player by a country mile.

Believe it or not, it's not all about you. Napoli is up against some of the best clubs in the world. This thread is about a part-time 6th tier team that should not be fit and skilful enough to succeed with the tactic.

Believe it or not, this thread is called "Gegenpressing too good" and in the OP there is an example of Liverpool and how good they are in the game. So based on my expirence gegenpresing is not overpowered. And anyway when you play with ****** team in a ****** level of football, all other teams are also **** so why wouldn't you be able to play this way and get results?

  12. He scored 23 goals for my HSV team in the 1st season. Absolutely amazing player at 18 years old. Will see him now how good will he play in 1.Bundesliga. I hope good otherwise we're in trouble. :D

Also put a release clause of 40mil in his contract just in case.

So, i'm now lining up as below:

A typical game: my goals were a penalty and a rebound, both players with a playmaker role had an obscene amount of shots and the finishing was wretched.

The stats for completed dribbles and key passes have improved under my revised set-up but the number of awful shots is absurd and finishing in general seems atrocious; like I say, rebounds and dead-balls are virtually my only source of goals.

Fully expect it's all my fault but this match engine seems horrifically dull and one-dimensional from my experience. Any suggestions in how to improve this experience very, very welcome.

Have bought the in-game editor with the sole intent of giving all of my midfielders the 'refrains from shooting from distance' ppm in an attempt to get them to curb this insanity...

I've also playing as HSV and also had a set up of control possesion and also had much problems with creating anything. I was on the verge of a sack actually and then I decided to change my approach.

So I went to fluid counter attack style which had me  go on a 14 game unbeaten run with a win in the last game securing promotion to the Bundesliga. I still had some issues when playing home against teams that park the bus but started to switch roles a bit more attacking and it did show some promise but now in Bundesliga I will have the luxury of playing my preffered cautious style which looked very very good.

I'm looking at the following roles and instructions for my 1st season in Bundesliga:

    GK - Sergio Romero- SK/S

    DR - Santiago Arias - WB/S

    DC - Gary Cahill - CD/D

    DC - Papadoupolous - CD/D

    DL - Rogerio - WB/S

    DM - Sebastian Rode - HB/D

    MC - Lewis Holtby - CM/A

    MC - Vasilije Janjicic - AP/S

    AMR - Jairo - W/S

    AML - Trezeguet - IF/S

    ST - Fiete Arp - DLF/A

    Mentality: cautious/balanced

In Possesion: Higher tempo, pass to space, shorter passing

In Transition: counter, counter press, roll it out, distribute quickly

Out of possesion: higher def.line, higher line of engagement, more urgent pressing
