  3. Welcome back everyone!! Well another year has passed and we're back at this insane challenge This is the new incarnation of the Youth Academy Challenge started by ri916 and continued by Braumiller before I picked it up. This new thread will also play host to people that are starting on older versions if they want, just easier to keep people active even if not on latest version. Please let me know if you’re playing on an older version though. The Aim To win your chosen countries' top division and win the Champions League of your continent with a previously unplayable club using only your academy as a way of acquiring new players - this mean NO TRANSFERS of any kind. No buying back former players. Even on a free. No loans not even as part of a deal to sell your player. The Available Countries Previously any Country in Europe was eligible as long as you can get a previously unplayable side promoted from holidaying, however over the last few years we were happy to extended it to the rest of the world as well as long as the team meets the criteria of being previously unplayable and that is the same this year. Custom leagues will be allowed from now on however if you complete the challenge on a custom DB we'll list your achievement with note to say it was done on a custom DB because we have no way of verifying the DB. Not all leagues are able to be used though so please ask in thread, by tagging myself and/or XaW, to check before you start. Helpful Information There is often lots of speculation about what impacts the youth intake and what you as a player can do in order to get the best intake you can and the below is the information we have thanks to @Seb Wassell (sorry for the notification here mate) Newgens & Youth Intake Youth Recruitment The Club’s recruiting of Juniors, those of home and foreign origin. Youth Facilities The training facilities available for Juniors (only). Does NOT apply to visible players already at the club. All visible players currently at the club use Training Facilities regardless of age. Junior Coaching The quality and quantity of Junior Coaches at the Club. Nation Youth Rating The potential maximum quality and quantity of Juniors produced in that Nation. Game Importance How important football is considered to be in that Nation. Producing Newgens The Clubs with the best Youth Recruitment will generally pick up the best Junior talent from that Nation first, the scale of that talent being determined by the Nation Youth Rating and Game Importance. The lower the Youth Recruitment the further down the pecking order a club will find itself. Two clubs with identical Youth Recruitment will be sorted by Club Reputation. Being lower down this pecking order does not mean quality Newgens cannot be produced, it simply lowers the chances. Youth Facilities and Junior Coaching then simulate and determine how that Junior progresses in the Club’s Junior system until a Newgen is produced and appears in game. It is at this point that the Current Ability (CA) and Potential Ability (PA) of the newgens are decided. The above factors all contribute to both CA and PA equally. Head of Youth Development (HoYD) The club’s HoYD is responsible for bringing Newgens into the club. He will influence what “type” of players are selected and can partially or fully pass on his personality to some of these Newgens. The “type” of players selected refers to a player’s position and style, for instance a HoYD with a preferred 4-5-1 formation and a Technical Coaching Style may produce more technically styled midfielders than another HoYD. The HoYD will also influence the rare “freak” or exceptional Newgens that come through, modifying their ability and style. This role is filled by the HoYD by default, however if none is employed whichever staff member is set to be responsible for youth development will fill this role. Youth Intake Preview In FM22 the Development Centre will provide a preview of the upcoming youth intake ahead of the day itself. This preview will provide some information on the general quality of the intake, positions that are either blessed with or lacking in quality and any other notable highlights. Currently it seems we DON'T get an inbox item for when poaching other teams players happens, but we instead get in an extra player in the first possible intake. Not ideal, and I hope SI will fix it, but at least it's possible to see after the player appears so worth checking how many players come through - it's usually 16 so any more than that and you've likely got a poached player in your intake Junior Player Poaching It is possible for Juniors to be poached from another club's youth system. This will most commonly occur from smaller reputation club > larger reputation club. When this occurs a inbox item is received, offering a few details (similar to that of the Youth Intake Preview) on the player that has been poached. Poached players will appear in the next appropriate youth intake. Known Issues As of right now there are none known so if and when we do find them I'll update this part The Reset Dates (Dates will appear when they have been confirmed for FM22 so please tag me when you know and if the country you pick isn't listed below just let me know the reset date and I'll add it) Some leagues (any you find please let me know) don't have relegation for the firsts season so if you want to play in those leagues you will be required to holiday for 2 seasons. Norway for example the top two tiers run the first season and without relegation in the lowest one. Holidaying a season will make the other leagues start as normal season 2. So holidaying through that will allow the normal promotion to the 3rd tier. The reason for this is that all amateur football has been suspended this season in real life. Also as of FM21 (I think it was) the sides that are picked to be promoted from the unplayable leagues are no longer picked the day before the league reset so we now have to holiday to a point usually a few weeks before the league reset. Save there and then holiday to the league reset in order to get different teams. Holland - there was no relegation in FM23 so if this changes this year we'll add it South Korea - Same as Holland really, relegation was postponed in Korea again so this country was not used for FM23, if relegation is there this year then it can be added Andorra - Argentina - January 1st Austria - June 13th. Save May 31st for different teams Belarus Belgium - June 29th. Save March 30th for different teams Bulgaria - June 17th. Save May 24th for different teams Brazil - January 2nd. Save May 5th for different teams Ukraine - Uruguay - Wales – June 24th. Save May 1st for different teams Database Settings Mandatory Database size can be small, medium or large Advanced Options have to be as shown here – New in FM24 New to FM24 is the different style of game worlds we can have when starting a save: As we sim the first season I think original or even real world are the only ones we should be using for this challenge. Optional Any additional settings in the ‘Advanced Database Setup’ – Due to us not being allowed to buy players, adding extra players just adds to the realism of your game and potentially slightly increases difficulty. NOTE – It is highly recommended you add the highest unplayable leagues for your country, as this will help make sure the promoted teams (you will be taking control of) have players. As an example, this is what I loaded for England for example - Players from Top Clubs in Europe (or all players from whatever continent you are playing in) is also recommended We used to limit this to just loading the leagues from the country you are playing in but we now allow you to load as many leagues as you to add a bit more immersion into their saves. You don't have to add any more than the country you are playing in but the option is there for people that want to. Steps When Getting Started Add yourself as an unemployed manager. Call him holiday man if you want. Go on holiday until the reset date of your nation or the day before if you’re planning on reloading. Retire the manager Add a new manager with your chosen nationality and the lowest possible reputation and qualifications Choose the newly promoted club of your choice Rules for when taking over your club of choice You're allowed to keep any player that starts under contract, you can extend their contracts as often as you like Any players that are on loan at the club can be used but their loans can not be extended If your board sign players for you and you can't cancel the deal these players can not be used, they must be sold ASAP, you should also post a screenshot in here when they've been signed so that we know they've been given to you Rules for the Challenge No loans or transfers in are allowed but you can sell and loan players out. If you are sacked, sorry, you have to start again. No save game editors are allowed. Only cosmetic database edits are allowed. (Team/competition names/logos) No international management until completion of challenge. Signing backroom staff is allowed. Signing players on trial or signing grey players isn't allowed. Rules for this Thread Player naming is allowed. General discussion on tactics is allowed, although people should not refer to downloaded tactics. They are not banned, but I would expect the majority of people to avoid them. Screenshots for anything are encouraged but please post links to your pictures, don't post them as images as it makes the pages slower to load. When you join the challenge, could you post a screenshot of your manager's profile on the league reset date. Progress of your club should be documented using this thread. The beauty of these challenge threads is to share your story and to read others. Please keep us updated, even if you are not performing as you may wish. Season Update Youth Candidates All Tagged Players Attribute page Transfers (to prove that you haven’t signed any players) Squad League Table Anything else is optional. Also, some people like to nickname/tag their best players from each youth intake in chronological order. For example, you could nickname your best player in the intake in season 1 as *their name* YP01a, and so on. But this is not compulsory if you don't wish to. Completions Over the years I've been running the thread we've kept track of completions via the hall of fame and last season some excellent work by @OlivierL we have a list of countries completed Good luck everyone as we embark on yet another crazy journey!
  4. New thread will be posted once the beta is out. Not sure if I'll have a quick beta save with Brentford to get used to the game or dive straight in with Dulwich Hamlet.
  5. My thought process was that it didn't really affect us in here as we holiday the first season and don't sign anyone anyone so I just assumed using "Original" would be what people use anyway?
  6. I was going to put a note in the new OP but yeah I've no issue with anyone continuing their save on FM24 posting in the new thread.
  7. Fair play to all still going, am taking a FM break before the beta drops but already know my team for next year. I'll have the new thread up soon after the beta drops I imagine.
  8. Brazil 2038 World Cup Review Group Stage Ukraine 0-1 Brazil - we stumbled our way through this one, missing an early pen but scoring just before HT Brazil 4-1 Guinea-Bissau - a rotated 11 did the job with 4 goals before the break. More rotation meant all 23 outfield players got some minutes in the group stage 2nd round (if needed) 3rd round (if needed) Quarter finals (if needed) Semi finals (if needed) 3rd play match (if needed) Final (if needed) Aftermath
  9. PSG Season 2037/38 Review So at the end of last season I resigned from Juventus, at around the same time Laurent Blanc retired opening up the job at Lyon, I applied and while I waited PSG offered me a interview. This was odd as their job wasn't open but when looking their manager had left to take my old job at Juventus so I interviewed at both PSG and Lyon and whoever came back to me first I would accept. It was PSG (obviously if you've seen the logo at the top of this post) Now this isn't the PSG of 2023, while they have some outstanding players they hadn't won anything in 3 seasons and the owners had scaled back funding a few years before that. I took over and it was nice to have a decent budget to play around transfers with (I should point out that about 60m of that spend was before I took over) which meant I was able to fill the gaps in the squad. This was easily one of the most dominant season's I've had on FM, we smashed the league and sat on top from game week 2 all the way through, Lille and Marseille ran us close for a bit but when they stumbled we didn't and won the league by nearly 20 points in the end. Dominating performances from Drevenstet on the left with 17 goals and 24 assists and Ibrahim up front with 35 goals (25 in 25 in the league despite a 7 game goal drought) In the cup we eased through to the final against rivals Marseille which ended 2-2. We scored all 5 pens as their one miss cost them for us to complete a double. Champions League the target was to get to quarter finals as felt we probably didn't have the depth for much more. We finished 2nd in the league phase and then found a route to the final where we faced a very good Bayern team. It was a cracker that ended 3-3 after I thought we had won it in both normal and extra time but late goals from them took us to pens where my keeper once again saved one pen and that was enough as we scored all 5 to win it!! I really didn't see this coming. I have the world cup up next (more on that in the next post) but think after that I'm gonna leave PSG and see what the job market looks like after international jobs are taken, we've progressed quicker than I thought here so time to move on again Career Progress Year Club League Position Nation Notes & Achievements 2022/23 Polokwane City NFD 11th South Africa Took over with 9 games left of the season 2023/24 Polokwane City NFD 1st South Africa Completed first coaching badge 2024/25 SuperSport United PL 1st South Africa Won Nedbank Cup and completed second coaching badge 2025/26 SuperSport United PL 1st South Africa Won Champions League and completed third coaching badge 2026 Daegu KL 4th South Korea Took over with 8 games to go 2027 Daegu KL 1st South Korea Won the FA Cup 2028 Daegu KL 1st South Korea Won Asian Champions League. 10. I won the cup as well, otherwise I'd have stayed. They're not ready for Champions League and need a rebuild, I left anyway and soon after Blanc retired from Lyon so I went for that and then Juventus appointed the PSG manager and they approached me for an interview. In the end I went PSG as they offered a bigger transfer and wage budget even though they're no longer a state owned club - they've gone 3 years without the title as well.
  11. Juventus Season 2036/37 Review Well this went much better than planned. We took over at about the half way stage still in Europe and not yet started in the cup. We were a fair amount of points off of Napoli at the time (the most dominant team in this save winning 9 of the previous 14 titles) so my plan was to spend the season scouting and setting up for a title push next season. If I could win the cup this season that would have been a lovely little bonus. My team had other plans though as we won our first 7 league games (and 10 in a row in all comps) I was lucky in that the previous manager played the same system as me so the players were suited, plus he left to take over Liverpool rather than be fired so the club was in a good position when I took over. We actually didn't lose a league game in the 2nd half of the season but we did draw more than we should have. Home draw with strugglers Palermo as well as draws at home to Speiza and Bolonga and away to Torino in the Turin derby had me pulling my hair out, however in the run in Napoli imploded by only winning 3 of their final 9 games. The turning point came with 4 games to go as we played host to them while just a point behind. A really tough game was edged by us with a goal 15 mins towards the end to win 3-2 and go top for the first time all season. It also gave us the head to head advantage meaning we just needed 2 wins and a draw against 3 sides in the bottom half to win the league. Of course straight away we drew at home to Spezia Napoli also drew away to Empoli so we stayed clear at the top. 2 wins in our final 2 games (including a 7-0 away win on the final day against a already relegated Lazio) won us the title. In the Champions League we were well placed in the league phase, I had 2 games left to secure qualification and we won away at Man Utd and Dinamo put us through, we then knocked out reigning Spanish champions Atletico before losing to Napoli over 2 legs. In the cup we had a fairly nice route as we beat Palermo and Emploi to set a semi final with Roma. A 1-0 loss away was overturned with a 3-1 win - though the winner came in the 95th minute. In the final we faced Inter and we led, went behind, got level before 2 goals in a minute in extra time won it for us to give us a double in 6 months! With Brazil we won both games away to Argentina and Peru wo qualify for the world cup with 4 games to spare. I plan on using those 4 games to experiment with younger players to set us up for the World Cup next year and, hopefully, the Copa America 2 years later. May resign and focus on Brazil for a bit in that case. In my head, when I took over, I thought at best this was an 18 month job. Get top 4 this season and recruit in the summer and then go for it. It's all been a little bit too quick for my own plans.
  12. Atletico Miniero Season Review 2036 Brazil After our, somewhat distant, 2nd place finish last season the order of the day during the 3 week off season was to really strengthen the squad so we used the transfer market and coming out of it we had a squad capable of playing twice a week with cover everywhere allowing us to rotate and not weaken the team. In the summer window though we did lose 3 players to European clubs in our wonderful Uruguayan left winger Aguiar to Liverpool on the final day of the European window (and too late for us to sign a replacement) for his release clause. We only had him for 1 year but he was brilliant. I did manage to delay deals till the end of our season for our CB Moura and attacking midfielder Brian Luiz both to Real Madrid. We dominated the State Championship breaking records along the way, the final was poor and we only ended up winning in due to being the higher seed. We also won the Supercopa on pens to continue our OK start to the season but we were not convincing. League was a bit odd as we started with 3 straight wins then drew before back to back losses without scoring. The away game away Cortiba was season changing, 1-0 down going into injury time, our 3rd straight loss without scoring then we scored 2 injury time goals to win which started a massive 21 game unbeaten run that saw us go top and stay there, we only lost 1 game for the rest of the season as we set more records for wins and points totals. We also retained the Brazilian Cup despite me never playing our best team in it. The big one was the Copa Libertadores, there was no early rounds this time thankfully as we went straight into the group stages, we eased through easily enough and had a fairly comfortable run to the final where we would face last seasons old foes Sao Paulo, though this season they had dropped a bit and were over 20 points behind us in the league. The final was a nervy affair as we won with a goal from our Argentine Fernandez to complete a quintuple of sorts (if we include the supercopa and the state title) During the course of the season I also got the Brazil job after they were knocked out of the Copa America early. We have 4 wins and 2 losses from world cup qualifying so far. At the end of the season I was looking for a new job, a couple in England looked good at Spurs and Liverpool but I've got other plans (if all works out) for England so waited, Liverpool appointed the current Juventus manager which left that job open so a move back to Europe was on the cards. We sit 4th with over half a season to go but a long way off of Napoli. 13. Season 2035 Review - Club Atletico Miniero - Brazil This season took ages. I'm used to the 50 plus games in England but this was a 75 game season while also winning the Asian Cup in the early part of it. We started with the Sate Championship, I used this as kind of pre season thing rotating players in and out while also competing in the Asian cup and sorting out transfers (a 4 week break between season ending and new one starting is brutal) so in the end we finished 3nd in the league stage but did win the knockout part to be crowned winners. Also during the the State Championship we had the early stages of the Copa Libertadores just to add to the dun, we made it to the group stage fairly easily there we struggled against Sao Paulo (a theme that would continue this season) but finished 2nd and progressed, we made it to the quarter finals where those gits from Sao Paulo knocked us out. In the Brazilian cup we had a fairly easy run in this, the 2nd leg semi final defeat was because I rotated the entire team after winning the home leg 7-0. We beat a poor Vitoria side in the final. If all that wasn't enough we also had the regular 38 game league season, we finished 2nd, a massive step up from the 8th place we got last year but ended 10 points behind Sao Paulo, this makes it look worse than it was, we were competing with them all season, usually within a point or two of them till around 10 games to go when we played them away, we fought back from 2 down to make it 2-2 before conceding in the 95th minute (of 94 announced ) to lose we then followed that up by drawing 0-0 at home to the side at the bottom as we fell away. It was a weird season in that we ad the best defence for most of it till the final couple of games where we threw away a 2-0 lead at 80 mins away to Fluminense to draw 2-2 and then a 3-0 HT lead away to Santos to draw 3-3, we also really struggled in front of goal despite new signing Julio Moreno scoring 55 in 58 (33 in 36 league games) another player scoring 20 and 3 others with 15+ goals we managed to underperform our xG by 12 goals! I think the issue was a lack of depth in defence and ST which meant when I did rotate the players coming in were of a much lesser quality and when I didn't rotate those key players tired and struggled in games. Both these issues are areas to focus on this off season. 14. Congrats mate - been as joy following both yours and Meier's attempt's, please to see you managed to win it with him in the side. Edit: Have added you to the HoF too
  15. 2035 Asian Cup - South Korea Group Stage Iran 2-3 South Korea - what I thought was our toughest game in the group was our first as going in Iran were ranked 18th in the world but a hat trick from star man Kang Bong-Soo (including a late winner) gave us the opening game win South Korea 5-0 Tajikistan - another game another Kang Bong-Soo hat trick meant I could rest a few players in the closing stages and give some minutes to others UAE 1-2 South Korea - just the one goal from Kang here but it did end up being the winner. We were very good for 75 minutes but the final 15 we took our foot off the pedal, allowed them to score and almost nick a point but in the end we topped the group with 3 wins from 3. 16. Atletico Miniero Season Review 2034 I took over with the team in 12th after 13 games. I thought, based on previous clubs in this save, we could come in and kick. While we did we also managed to infuriate me at the same time. We did alright, the board just wanted us to qualify for the Copa Sudamericana (so finish top 13) but, because I need to be in it to win it, I wanted the Copa Libertadores which is top 7. It took a while to figure out what my team would be as the squad was OK but nothing special, we found some form over the middle part of the season but found ourselves stuck in 8th as we just couldn't really beat the teams above us. Then we started to not win a single away game. We lost 6 away games in a row while picking up points. We stopped the rot with a 0-0 draw on the final day and it was enough to see us finish 7th on games won (the first sorting rule in Brazil) and sneak in. I feel like this off season is going to be massive as I really do have to ship out a lot of players. Our best players are old and need replacing, we also really lack a striker - we should have finished 3rd on the xG table so it's clear where our issues lie. It should be quite the overhaul heading into next season. I hope. We were already out of the cup when I took over so nothing to report there. Have the Asian Cup with South Korea in a few weeks so will do the write up for that then. 17. So these were my last posts as I've not played FM for like 2.5 months but the itch has returned with the new football season. I did leave Atlanta United and ended up in brazil with Atletico Mineiro who sat mid table It's going to take a little bit of time to remember where my head was with this save, especially with my South Korea squad with the Asian Cup coming soon, but should be fine once I settle back in.
  18. I don't see why not. I've no issues with people carrying over their saves.
  19. Just the one in the 2nd post. You're in it now, I think I forgot to save it while I was lining up all the rows
  20. I get it done sooner or later - usually once I'm tagged Congrats, I know first hand what a grind England can be, it's a tough challenge but you don't half feel like you've completed FM when you've done it And yes you've been added to the HoF
  21. Yeah you're fine posting here, if you complete it just let me know it's on 22 so I can put the right version on the HoF. Some clubs release players ebfore the change over date and leaves you screwed. It's just something we can't control annoyingly, they may not even release the same players every save either - it's all pot luck.
